• Blackberry Gmail password change

  I've updated my gmail password and so i must update my blackberry password. I tried updating the email password to which i got the following message. Invalid email address or password. Please verify your email address and password. The information you provided is incorrect. If the error persists contact gmail.com (Your email provider). Please try again. I tried again, with what i know the password to be, with password show on. I've also deleted the account and tried to create it. I've tried going to the "Last account activity: XXXX details" menu and signing out all devices. I'm continually getting the above error, but the account activities don't seem to show any sign of a mobile attempt to access my mail account. Has anyone had this issue before and how did you sign it. Thanks in advance.

• Is there an application I can run that will tell me how fast my computer is running?

  At work I log into a virtual Windows machine. I'm told it runs as fast as a PC, but I'm skeptical. Is there an application I can run on the machine that will tell me how faster the machine is actually running? It would be nice if it ran on Windows and on Mac. Updating with more details -- I was asked "why does it matter" -- here's why: It matters because I'm a programmer and I need as much speed (CPU and memory) as possible to do my work. IMO, the virtual machine is noticeably slower than a basic $800 PC would be, but I need a way a proving it. Websites like Bandwidthtest.com can show me my internet speed, so I'm wondering if there's an app that can test my computer's speed.

When I run this: curl --ssl https://www.google.com I get this error: curl: (60) SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate More details here: http://curl.haxx.se/docs/sslcerts.html curl performs SSL certificate verification by default, using a "bundle" of Certificate Authority (CA) public keys (CA certs). If the default bundle file isn't adequate, you can specify an alternate file using the --cacert option. If this HTTPS server uses a certificate signed by a CA represented in the bundle, the certificate verification probably failed due to a problem with the certificate (it might be expired, or the name might not match the domain name in the URL). If you'd like to turn off curl's verification of the certificate, use the -k (or --insecure) option.

• DokuWiki Segmentation Fault On Radius Auth

  I'm running x64 Ubuntu 12.04. I did a simple apt-get install dokuwiki to install DokuWiki. And I'm trying to follow the directions located here: http://www.dokuwiki.org/auth:radius to get Radius authentication working. Things seemed to install OK. Under Configuration Manager I selected Authentication backend to be "Radius" and filled in the Radius details at the bottom. Now, however, whenever I try to log into the Wiki, my browser gives me the following error: No data received I checked /var/log/apache2/error.log and see this: [Tue Jul 10 22:22:14 2012] [notice] child pid 5270 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) I'm fairly sure the Radius server is setup correctly as it correctly authenticates with my squid proxy and other stuff on the network. But this is about the extent of my Linux troubleshooting skills. Can anyone suggest steps for me to follow to help track down what's causing apache2 to segfault short of attaching with gdb and issuing a set follow-fork-mode? • Using the right folder for the right job. Article link, please?

  There are specific folders designed for specific tasks. /var/www holds your web sites, /usr/bin contains files to run your applications...yet I still find myself putting nearly all of my work in ~. Is it possible to overuse my home directory? Will it come back to haunt me? Anyone have a good link to an article of best practices for organizing your files so that they are placed in their "correct" place? Is there even such a thing in Linux? I am referring specifically to user-generated content. I do not compile applications from source, I use apt-get for those tasks. This article has a great introduction to what I'm looking for. Table 3-2, "Subdirectories of the root directory" is the sort of thing I'm looking for, but with more details/examples.

• Editing .bash_profile file not taking effect

  I need to put export PATH=$PATH:/opt/lampp/bin to my ~/.bash_profile file so that mysql from command line works on my system. Please check mysql command line not working for further details on that. I am working on a fedora system and logged in as root user. If I run locate .bash_profile then I get these:- /etc/skel/.bash_profile /home/sam/.bash_profile /home/sohil/.bash_profile /home/windows/.bash_profile /root/.bash_profile So, I modified the /root/.bash_profile file like this:- from PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin export PATH to PATH=$PATH:/opt/lampp/bin export PATH But, still the change is not taking effect - Opening a new console and running mysql again says bash: mysql: command not found. However running export PATH=$PATH:/opt/lampp/bin in console makes it work for that session. So, I am doing something wrong with the .bash_profile file. May be editing incorrect one or doing the edit incorrectly.

• How do I install and use Windows Virtual PC in Windows 8?

  I really like the integrated Virtual Machine that Windows had built-in with Windows 7 with Windows Virtual PC. I'm looking to install that again. I'd like to be able to install multiple machines as I did before (XP, Ubuntu, Etc,.) but I can't seem to find Windows Virtual PC for Windows 8 any more. Is it still available?, and if not was there something setup in place to replace it? How do I use it? • SLA Violations - Compensation expectations and vague contracts

  Tagging this as cautionary tale. I took over for an admin a year and a half ago, and reviewed the 3 year contract with our ISP. There were no specific SLA promises in the contract that I found, and have been meaning to review the contract with our rep. Of course, we had an outage this past week that resulted in almost four days of downtime !!!!! This involves eff-ups of epic proportions on our ISP's part and a telco they colocate with. Details can be provided. I am the network / systems / purchasing / and helpdesk at my company...and am willing to fight with the ISP. I also have more management that can get involved, including the name on the contract. First, if there are not concrete guarantees about compensation and downtime, we are screwed right? Two, if we want out of our contract, does anyone have experience going the legal route, and if so, who knows a lawyer? =)

• PHP shell_exec times out, but not when executed manually

  I have a Windows 2008 server with PHP and msys installed. I also have a simple php script that calls shell_exec and tars a few files. When I run the script on my development machine (Windows 7), it works fine. However, when I run it on the Windows 2k8 server, it times out. When I copy and paste exactly what's being run on the cmd line and run it, it executes w/out error in less than a second. One more important detail: when I shell_exec 'dir' or 'netstat', the script runs without any problems. When I shell_exec 'ls' it hangs. When I run ls on the command line, it returns immediately. Other details that might be useful: The Windows 2k8 server is a VPS hosted by Rackspace. I did vanilla installs of Apache, PHP, and msys, but I haven't installed anything else. When I run whoami, I see the php script is executing as the user "nt authority\system".

• Can't add German as input language in Windows XP

  I have a laptop that was brought to a computer shop for a hard disk problem. They replaced the disk and reinstalled windows XP, although the English version (the laptop has a German keyboard). I'd like to switch the input language to German. Usually I know how to do this (via "Regional and Language Options"), the problem is when I choose Languages/Details/Add... it doesn't offer me the German keyboard layout: It also uses the "Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard" driver - the laptop's keyboard is a 104/105 key German version. I can't seem to change this. Did I just miss the setting, or what is going on here?

• Windows Authentication Website Asking for Credentials

  I have a website that has ASP.Net Impersonation Enabled and Windows Authentication Enabled. When navigating to that site using IE8 with "Enable Integrated Windows Authentication" (under Tools - Internet Options - Advanced) checked, the browser pops-up a "Windows Security" dialog box asking for User name and Password. My understanding was that this was automatically passed through and I would not need to type in those details. Additional Information: If I uncheck "Enable Integrated Windows Authentication" I do not get the pop-up window and it appears to work was intended (though that is the opposite of what I would be expecting) If I enable Windows Authentication in Firefox I do not get the pop-up window (i.e. works as intended) Are there some settings or similar that could have been set to create this behavior? Or has anyone else seen similar behavior and know how to fix?

• Media Player is missing from the list in "Turn Windows features on or off"

  I decided to reinstall Media Player in Vista [this way], so I figured I should turn it off as a Windows feature. But when I continue with the procedure, I get an incomplete list of features, here's an image: I looked around a bit, wondering if that is only an option available in 7, and I have seen people saying different things. So, is this only available for 7 or is there something wrong going on here? Can I make Media Player to show up in here? I am on a Toshiba Satellite A100 with Vista Home Premium OEM. I don't have my recovery disks or any restore point. Just to mention, I currently do have Media Player and it's working fine. Sorry if I can't think of any more details to add, please ask me for anything I should have included.

• Realtek HD Audio playing weird with certain video formats

  Hi, I have a Gigabyte motherboard with an onboard Realtek HD sound card. The card is working perfectly everywhere, except for a single video format, where the voice is distorted, sounds as if it's been passed through a metal tube. Been googling for this, but couldn't find an answer anywhere. The movie plays fine on other systems (got Linux everywhere else), but on this one (winXP-x64-sp2) it just doesn't. • Should I upgrade Exchange 2003 or just upgrade the hardware?

  My organization currently has a 4 y/o Exchange 2003 email server (32-bit, Intel Pentium D @ 3GHz, 3GB RAM). It's run very well over the past 4 years but it is time to upgrade its hardware. This server would handle email for approximately 30 clients, a few OWA users with iPhones. My (somewhat ambiguous) question is, when I receive the new hardware should I build out a new Exchange 2003 deployment or should I look at Exchange 2007 / 2010? I've heard that Exchange 2010 requires Sharepoint 2010 (which I am currently not running). Are there benefits that a small-medium sized business can or can't do without? Am I making a horrible mistake staying with antiquated software? Other details: Exchange 2003 (v6.5 + SP2) single front-end server All opinions and thoughts are very much appreciated.

• Router's ssid changes from infrastructure to ad-hoc

  For a period of time the router's ssid is shown (on various computers) as a normal infrastructure network - computers connect fine and everything works however after a few minutes / hours all computers see the same ssid as an ad-hoc network (not infrastructure). At this point a computer that was already connected continues to work - a computer that isn't cannot connect. Rebooting the router temporarily restores the visibility of the correct infrastructure ssid. Is something interfering? Connecting computers: macbook (2009), iphone 3g, windows vista desktop, windows xp desktop. • Is there a macro to split the contents of an Excel spreadsheet into seperate spreadhseets?

I have a excel spreadsheet with the following headings- First name -- Surname -- Host Trust -- Contact details -- etc -- etc It is a large spreadsheet. I have to send an email every week to host trusts to inform them of who will be working with them and it is a nightmare dividing this up manually. Is it possible to create a macro which will split this spreadsheet into several spreadsheets using the the data from the Host Trust column as the title of each spreadsheet?

• Connection to mysql server in SYN_SENT

  We are facing a strange problem from last few days between our application server and database server(Mysql): connection to database server from application server hangs in SYN_SENT state and after that we are not able to make any connection to database server on mysql port(3306). When we checked the netstat output on database server its in SYN_RECV state. What I can figure out is mysql server is receiving the SYN request and responding also and its not reaching to the client hence SYN_RECV at server side and SYN_SENT at client side. I think SYN_SENT state should go after some time and because of this other db connection attempts to same server should not hang. Does anybody have any idea how can we resolve this issue? • Is it possible to upgrade Server 2008 to RDP version 6.1?

  Problem Server 2008 has RDP 6.0, Server 2008 R2 has RDP 6.1. My application works with RDP ActiveX control 6.1, but does not work with version 6.0 - generates access violation from mstscax.dll. Is there any way to upgrade Server 2008 (not 2008 R2) with RDP 6.1? More details: my application is written in Delphi, the ActiveX control was generated from mstscax.dll version 6.1.7601.17514. Target system where the application doesn't work, has mstscax.dll version 6.0.6002.18356. When the application tries to connect, it generate an access violation exception in mstscax.dll. The way I see it is a compatibility problem. I appreciate any ideas on how to resolve this.

• Why no multiple instances of Firefox on Linux as on Windows?

  On Windows If I run Firefox as user jack, and then try to start another instance of firefox I will be unable to, as one is already running. If I choose to run firefox as administrator, then I can have two instances of firefox, separate from each other side by side, because they are under different user accounts. This does not seem to be true on Linux. As user jack if I start firefox, like on windows I am unable to start a new instance. If I open a terminal and change to root, set XAUTHORITY to jacks .Xauthority and try to start firefox as root....I get the error that firefox is already running. Why is this? Please don't spare any technical details in your answers....thankyou.

• SQL Azure Federation - how much data before performance benefits?

  To avoid premature optimization, I don't want to implement SQL Azure's Federation too early. Is there a rule of thumb for how much data a table would need to have before seeing performance benefits from sharding? I know there won't be a precise answer as there are too many variables to consider, especially with much of SQL Azure's resources being hidden/unknown. To put it into several, more concrete examples, would Federation improve performance in any of the below table scenarios: 100,000 rows (~ 200 MB) 1,000,000 rows (~ 2 GB) 10,000,000 rows (~ 20 GB) 100,000,000 rows (~ 200 GB) For the sake of elaboration, we can assume this is the largest table that would be federated, which consists of order details, which is joined to an orders table with a 'customer_id' foreign key, which would be the distribution key. This is a fairly standard multi-tenant, CRUD order entry system, with a typical assortment of reporting needs (customer order totals by day/month/year, etc).

• "Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action" windows XP, outlook 2007, connect to exchange using HTTP

  Hey, I can't connect to an exchange server using windows XP and outlook 2007, using the "connect anywhere over HTTP" process, it has been working until recently and the user reports no recent changes to his environment. The error is "Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action" It will prompt me for the username and password which I can enter, then it will give the errorm however this only happens when I delete the account and enter all details for the excahnge server again. The client computer that is unable to connect using outlook can connect to the HTTPS mail service and login send/receive fine. Nobody else has reported issues. making a test environment with a clean install of XP and outlook 2007 gives the same error, but using windows 7 and outlook 2007 connects perfectly fine everytime. I also removed all passwords using control keymgr.dll which didnt help. Any assistance or ideas would be appreciated, at this point nothing I've tried from technet or google works <_<
