  Hi guys, I've got this table CREATE TABLE `subevents` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `title` varchar(150) DEFAULT NULL, `content` text, `class` tinyint(4) NOT NULL DEFAULT '1', PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM Each row can have a different value in the 'class' field. I'd like to select any number of rows, ordered randomly, as long as the sum of the values in the 'class' field is equal to 100. How could I accomplish it directly in the MySQL query without doing it later in PHP? Thanks everybody!

Is it possible at all and how to do it? Or has it has to raise IOException in such cases?

• Should I use multiple threads in this situation? [Ruby]

  I'm opening multiple files and processing them, one line at a time. The files contain tokens separating the data, such that sometimes the processing of one file may have to wait for others to catch up to that same token. I was doing this initially with only one thread and an array indicating with true/false if the file should be read in the current iteration or if it should wait for some of the others to catch up. Would using threads make this simpler? More efficient? Does Ruby have a mechanism for this?

  I have tried the example code on SO to read the contents from the file in the resource directory in BlackBerry. But I am having an issue with the FileConnection. I get the following error: File system error (1003) I tried the example from here.   Hi, I was watching the Profiler on a live system of our application and I saw that there was an update instruction that we run periodically (every second) that was quite slow. It took around 400ms every time. The query includes this update (which is the slow part) UPDATE BufferTable SET LrbCount = LrbCount + 1, LrbUpdated = getdate() WHERE LrbId = @LrbId This is the table CREATE TABLE BufferTable( LrbId [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, ... LrbInserted [datetime] NOT NULL, LrbProcessed [bit] NOT NULL, LrbUpdated [datetime] NOT NULL, LrbCount [tinyint] NOT NULL, ) The table has 2 indexes (non unique and non clustered) with the fields by this order: * Index1 - (LrbProcessed, LrbCount) * Index2 - (LrbInserted, LrbCount, LrbProcessed) When I looked at this I thought that the problem would come from Index1 since LrbCount is changing a lot and it changes the order of the data in the index. But after desactivating index1 I saw the query was taking the same time as initially. Then I rebuilt index1 and desactivated index2, this time the query was very fast. It seems to me that Index2 should be faster to update, the order of the data shouldn't change since the LrbInserted time is not changed. Can someone explain why index2 is much heavier to update then index1? Thank you!

  For the life of me I can't figure out the proper syntax for creating an array of structures in C. I tried this: struct foo { int x; int y; } foo[][] = { { { 1, 2 }, { 4, 5 }, { -1, -1 } }, { { 55, 44 } { 100, 200 }, } }; So for example foo[1][0].x == 100, foo[0][1].y == 5, etc. But GCC spits out a lot of errors. If anyone could provide the proper syntax that'd be great.   UPDATE TableA SET Value = a.Value * b.AnotherValue FROM TableA AS a INNER JOIN TableB AS b WHERE (Condition is true); Here is the problem. The Value field for TableA does not allow nulls. If the calculation of a.Value * b.AnotherValue yields a null, an error is thrown. Now the question. Is there any way to tell the UPDATE to ignore the SET phase when the result of the calculation is a null and delete the record rather than updating it. This UPDATE is intended to update hundreds of records at a time but will fail if a single null is encountered. Also, please note that using the ISNULL() function and setting the Value to zero is not acceptable. I would like the record to be dropped if a null is encountered. Many thanks in advance for any help rendered.

  We took over a website from another company after a client decided to switch. We have a table that grows by about 25k records a day, and is currently at 15MM records. The table looks something like: id (PK, int, not null) member_id (int, not null) another_id (int, not null) date (datetime, not null) SELECT COUNT(id) FROM tbl can take up to 15 seconds. A simple inner join on 'another_id' takes over 30 seconds. I can't imagine why this is taking so long. Any advice? SQL Server 2005 Express
