    How can I change the value of, let's say, PasswordAuthentication in /etc/ssh/sshd_config in commands? As well, remove a # in front of the "key" I wish to value. These don't all have to be in one command. I setup quite a few servers, and remembering where everything is gets exhausting, so I want to get a series of commands I can copy paste and it does the work for me for future reference.   • Trying to setup phpUnderControl but missing phpcb

    Hi, I'm trying to setup phpUnderControl on Ubuntu 10.04 following this tutorial http://techportal.ibuildings.com/2009/03/03/getting-started-with-phpundercontrol/. I get to the part where it says to type in sudo phpuc example /opt/cruisecontrol but recieve the following error: Missing cli tool 'phpcb', check the PATH variable. I did a little googling but can't seem to find reference of a phpcb anywhere. Does anyone know what this is and where I might get it? Thanks.

  • Screen is greyed out after power failure shutdown: Mac OSX

    When the battery power is down and the unit not plugged in the computer is forced into a sleep mode requiring pushing the start button when power is re-connected. The initial desktop screen appears to be greyed out and is unresponsive with a timer bar which, when the timing sequence is complete restores an active desktop. I can't find any reference to this phenomenon in the OSX literature I have. Any pointers to where I can get more information? Perhaps I am using the wrong search criteria?

  • Using /etc/services for in-house well-known ports

    I couldn't find anything much about this, but I'm interested what are pros and cons (if any) in using /etc/services for in-house software? On my Linux distro (Ubuntu 14.04) at the end of /etc/services is a comment: # Local services hinting that it could be a good thing to do. One thing that comes to mind is that having in-house ports in /etc/services would make serv database a reference point for common knowledge and much better source of default ports for applications throughout the system.

  • Windows 7 Blank Screen on Boot / Login

    I have a new system that's having a few problems... sometimes (seems to be when the PC is cold, i.e. has been switched off for a while, though that could be my imagination) I get a blank blue screen when I boot up. The system boots normally and auto-logs-in. The desktop loads and I'm even able to launch applications, but then everything disappears and the screen goes to the default windows desktop blue colour (not the desktop image, just a plain blue with no mouse cursor). At this point the machine completely locks up - I'm unable to even toggle Num Lock and have to hold in the power button for 5 seconds to kill it. Interestingly if I manage to launch some applications before it goes blank, they will usually crash... sometimes explorer.exe will crash too. When I reboot, the system is fine and stable. I've installed the latest graphics drivers and run memtest86+ for 6 passes (and counting) with no errors. The system specs are: CPU: Intel I7 2.66 @ 3.4GHz RAM: 6GB (3 * 2GB DDR3) HDD: 128GB Crucial M225 SSD Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD3R Gfx: ATI Radeon Sapphire 5870 1GB Note: There are a few similar questions but I haven't found one that matches my symptoms

    OK, I'm a C# programmer that is trying to streamline the deployment of a custom windows form app I inherited and built an installer for with WiX (this app will need to be reinstalled regularly as I'm making changes to it). I'm not really used to admin type things (or vbs, or WMI, or terminal servers, or Citrix, and even WiX and MSI are not things I usually deal with) but so far I put together some vbs and have an end goal in mind. The msi does work, and I've installed it from the mapped O: drive on my dev machine and while RDP'd to a citrix machine. End Goal: Deploy code written on my dev machine and compiled into an MSI (that I can improve upon within the confines of WiX and whatever the Windows Installer Engine allows) to the cluster of Citrix machines my users have access to. What am I missing in my script to get the MSI to execute on the remote machines? Layout: Machine A is my dev machine, and has the vbs script and the msi file (XP SP3) Machines C1 - C6 are the Citrix Servers that need the application installed them via the msi (Server 2003 R2 SP2) There is also optionally a shared network resource that all the machines can access.   • Can I set a default domain for a Windows Authenticated website in IIS7?

    I have an intranet site using Windows Authentication. When users are prompted for credentials, they enter: User: domain\username Pass: SomePassword It'd be nice if they could leave off the domain\ part which would be filled in with a default domain. I'm willing to give up the ability to login with a server/machine account (non-domain) because we don't use that anyway. This seems to be possible with BasicAuth but I can't seem to find a reference for how to do it with WindowsAuth.

    Development of the free application Putty Connection Manager that can display more than one Putty sessions stopped in 2009, and it sometimes triggers this error when I double-click on any host in the right hand-side list: PuTTY Connection Manager/An unexpected error occured : Object reference not set to an instance of an object.. When that happens, I have to reboot :-/ Does someone know of an alternative? Thank you.

Also, is there something I can reference that covers the options for OoO such as length of time between replies, etc.? Thanks!

    I need to cross-reference data involving a large number of IP addresses against known public proxies, spam-listed IPs etc. For obvious performance and network load reasons, obtaining a regularly updated dump for off-line processing would be preferrable. I currently use http://www.dnsbl.manitu.net/download/nixspam-ip.dump.gz - a digest of ix.dnsbl.manitu.net with 40,000 entries updated every 15 minutes. I'd like something more substantial though, so my question is: does such a thing exist?

    Does anyone know how to embed a video in a powerpoint presentation in such a way that it can be moved to another computer? Possible solutions I'm considering: Actually embed the video file into the powerpoint file. This would be ideal, but I don't know how to do this. On Noctua's site they state: Caution: The NH-U12DX 1366 can only be used on mainboards that have a backplate with screw threads for CPU cooler installation (such as the Intel reference backplate for Xeon 5500). The cooler is thus incompatible with Xeon 3500 and Core i7 mainboards that don’t have such a backplate. How do I know if the Asus P6T has this backplate?

    Hi all, I am experimenting with FreeBSD and have used Gentoo in the past. In Gentoo, we have make.conf where we can specify global use flags, and /etc/portage/package.use for package-specific use flags. I found a reference indicating that if you want to customize ports in FreeBSD, you have to pass them on the command-line meaning you will lose those customizations if you forget or simply by doing updates.     I'm using gitosis on a server that has a low amount of memory, specifically around 512 MB.   • Apache MaxClients doubt

    I have a busy Apache server serving only dynamic PHP+MySQL pages. It is a prefork Apache, version 2.2.4 with following config: KeepAlive off StartServers 8 MinSpareServers 32 MaxSpareServers 64 ServerLimit 512 MaxClients 512 MaxRequestsPerChild 4000 MaxClients/ServerLimit used to be set to 256, but I got the following error in error_log so I increased it: [error] server reached MaxClients setting, consider raising the MaxClients setting It seems to work now, but I have a doubt. Looking at MySQL log of queries, I have a couple hundred clients per seconds, but "ps ax" only shows 8, 9 or 10 processes running: [root@engine ~]# ps ax | grep http | wc -l 10 I even got this many processes when the above error message was shown in error_log. This made me investigate further.     Possible Duplicate: What are PATH and other environment variables, and how can I set or use them? I have the default package of Ruby installed that shipped with the OS, which is an older version. I have recently installed MacPorts with the latest Ruby version which is installed in a seperate location:- /opt/local/bin/ But when I run which ruby I get /usr/bin/ruby Is there any way to edit the path of the command ruby so it would reference the new installation in the /opt/ directory?   • linux hardware raid 10 / lvm / virtual machine partition alignment and filesystem optimization

    I've been reading everything I can find about partition alignment and filesystem optimization (ext4 and xfs) but still don't know enough to be confident in setting up my current configuration. My remaining confusion comes from the LVM layer and if I should use raid parameters on the filesystem in guest os'es. My main questions are: When I use 'pvcreate --dataalignment' do I use the stripe-width as calculated for a filesystem on RAID (128kB for ext4 in my situation), the Stripe size of the RAID set (256kB), something else altogether, or do I not need this? When I create ext2/3/4 or xfs filesystems in guests on the Logical Volumes, should I add the settings for the underlying RAID (e.g. mkfs.ext4 -b 4096 -E stride=64,stripe-width=128)? Does anyone see any glaring errors in my set up below? I'm running some benchmarks now but haven't done enough to start comparing results. I have four drives in RAID 10 on a 3ware 9750-4i controller (more details on the settings below) giving me a 6.0TB device at /dev/sda. Here is my partition table: Model: LSI 9750-4i DISK (scsi) Disk /dev/sda: 5722024MiB Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B Partition Table: gpt Number Start End Size File system Name Flags 1 1.00MiB 257MiB 256MiB ext4 BOOTPART boot 2 257MiB 4353MiB 4096MiB linux-swap(v1) 3 4353MiB 266497MiB 262144MiB ext4 4 266497MiB 4460801MiB 4194304MiB Partition 1 is to be the /boot partition for my xen host. Partition 2 is swap. Partition 3 is to be the root (/) for my xen host. Partition 4 is to be (the only) physical volume to be used by LVM (for those who are counting, I left about 1.2TB unallocated for now) For my Xen guests, I usually create a Logical Volume of the needed size and present it to the guests for them to partition as needed. I know there are other ways of handling that but this method works best for my situation. Here's the hardware of interest on my CentOS 6.3 Xen Host: 4x Seagate Barracuda 3TB ST3000DM001 Drives (sector size: 512 logical/4096 physical) 3ware 9750-4i w/BBU (sector size reported: 512 logical/512 physical) All four drives make up a RAID 10 array.
