  • Windows XP update not working

    I have a problem with XP updating. It hangs when I try to search for updates on the website. But the automatic updates still work. And it's running IE6, so I'm trying to update to IE8, hoping that will fix the problems with the website. But when installing IE8 it just hangs at Installing Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP And if I try to install it manually, it hangs when installing the updates for IE8. So looking at these logs, is there anything going wrong with the update process? I have Nginx in front of this web server (amongst others) and, whilst the web server can be browsed externally, the Java app fails to launch correctly and throws the errors below.     This .NET API works OK if I'm trying to open the Registry in a machine that's in the same domain as I am (and my logged-on user has admin rights on the target machine). It gets tricky if it's an out-of-domain machine with a different, local administrative user (of whom I do have the password). I tried to use WNetUseConnection() (which has served me well in the past in situations where what I wanted was to read a remote disk file) prior to calling OpenRemoteBaseKey(), but no dice -- I get an access denied exception. Clearly, I must pass credentials some other way, but how?

    We're writing a server application that needs to use an ActiveX object that must be visible and Top-Most otherwise it doesn't render correctly. The challenge is that servers typically don't have an active desktop, and therefore the applications should not require one. Ours does. I must use this ActiveX, and I don't have access to the source code. When running from within remote-desktop everything works fine as long as the session is open. As soon as the session closes it stops working. I'm guessing this is because there is no desktop. Any ideas how I can work this out in a secure and robust way?

    Hello I have a database engine sitting on a remote server, while my webserver is present locally. I have worked pretty much with client-server architecture, where the server has both the webserver and the database engine. Now I need to connect to an Oracle database which is situated on a different server. Can anybody give me any suggestions?? I believe ODBC_CONNECT might not work. Do I use OCI8 drivers?? How would I connect to my database server. Also I would have a very high number of database calls going back and forth, so is it good to go with persistent connection or do I still use individual database calls?

I found the MySQL Administrator client provided by them, but it seems you can do everything BUT edit the actual data with it. Is there anything like this? I've built a small script that just does a connection test, and when I run it, I get the following error. I've been told by the admin that SQL remote access has been granted for my IP address. Anybody know what's wrong?

    Using Delphi 7, I wonder if there is a free component which will collect diagnostic information as my application runs at a remote site and will help me to debug error reports. Maybe it records each menu item selected, control clicked, text input, etc? Maybe it just dumps the stack on a crash. Maybe it does something else ... I don't mind adding code (e.g at the start and end of each procedure), as that might generate more useful info than a fully automatic system. I am not sure if the solution ought to "phone home" or if it is enough to produce a text file which can be emailed to me. Any suggestions?

    Hi, I am developing a stand-alone java client application that connects to a Glassfish v3 application for JPA/EJB facade style transactions. In other words, my client application do not connect directly to the database to CRUD, but it transfers JPA objets using EJB stateless sessions. I have scenarios where this client application will be used in an external network connected with a VPN over Internet with a client connection of 512kbp/DSL, and a simple query takes so much time, I'm seeing the traffic graph and when I merge a entity in the client application I see megabytes of traffic (I couldn't believe how a purchase order entity could weight more than 1 mb). I have LAZY fetch in almost every many-to-many relationship, but I have a lot of many-to-one relationships between entities (but this is the great advantage of JPA!). Could I do something to accelerate the the speed of transactions between JPA/EJB server and the remote java client? Thank you in advance.

Instead of spending money for a new iMac or Mac Mini for each of them, my boss would like to sell them a $999 Apple server, hosted at a facility connected a single T1 line, and have all 4 people work remotely in Xcode. Is this feasible? Is anyone doing anything like this? Specifically, is 1 T1 enough for realistic remote app development? Would they have to work in black & white via Logmein or Gotomeeting to get decent speed? Can four people work remotely together on an Xcode project at the same time? Do they absolutely need their own Macs to connect their iPod Touches or iPhones physically to, or can they connect to their existing PCs with iTunes and install their in-development apps that way?

    I have a new macbook air 11, which I do some web based programming on, I have a windows box with a 1920x1200 display which I'd like to use to view the mac desktop and keep working at home when I can - taking advantage of the higher resolution screen and full sized keyboard/mouse. I don't think VNC or such is the answer I'm looking for as it would restrict the display to the airs 1366x768 - negating the main benefit more lines of text on screen. From some rudimentary googleing I think I'm after some sort of x-windows / x-11 remote display. But I'm not a Linux user and any discussion seems to be about linux os x or windows Linux setups. Can anyone provide a clear set of instructions on how to do this or an application that can do this.

    The __doPostBack is not working in firefox 3 (have not checked 2). Everything is working great in IE 6&7 and it even works in Chrome?? I figured I'd put it up here rather then in a stackoverflow "answer" Seems it had something to do with nesting ajax toolkit UpdatePanel. When I removed the top level panel it was fixed. Hope this helps if anyone else has the same problem. I still don't know what specifically was causing the problem, but that was the solution for me.

  • Rolemanager not working when ASPDotNetStorefront served in a virtual folder with FormsAuthentication

    Does anyone know if there is a valid roleManager I can apply to ASPDotNetStorefront to get the site working? We have a website that has an ASP.Net storefront served in a virtual folder off the root. ourwebsite.com ourwebsite.com/shop Everything has been workign fine until we put the groundwork in place for forms authentication in the website recently. This caused an error on the production server when you tried to get into the shop... Unable to cast object of type 'System.Web.Security.RolePrincipal' to type 'AspDotNetStorefrontCore.AspDotNetStorefrontPrincipal'. Looking at the shop's web.config I noticed there was no RoleManager node, so I tried to fix the problem by removing it in the shop's web.config <roleManager enabled="false"> </roleManager> This prevented the error occurring, but also prevented the shopping basket from working. Instead I removed the rolemanager tag from the root website... <!-- Conflicting with AspDotNetStorefront <roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="CustomizedRoleProvider"> <providers> <add name="CustomizedRoleProvider" type="System.Web.Security.SqlRoleProvider" connectionStringName="constr" /> </providers> </roleManager> --> This worked, but obviously prevents role authentication working on the root website, which is okay for the next 2 or 3 releases. Anyone know the correct code for the rolemanager in DotNetStorefront?

  • ASP Classic page quit working

    I've had a set of legacy pages running on my IIS7 server for at least a year. Sometime last week something changed and now this line: Response.Write CStr(myRS(0).name) & "=" & Cstr(myRS(0).value) which used to return nothing more exciting than the string: 'Updated=true' (the sproc processing input params, stores them to a table, checks for errors and when that's all done returns a success code by executing this statement: select 'true' as [Updated] Now my pageside error handler is being involved and offers: myError=Error from /logQuizScore.asp Error source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error Error number: 13 Error description: Type mismatch Important to note that all lots of pages use the same framework - same db, same coding format, connecitonstrings and (so far as I can tell) all others are working. Troubleshot to this point: The call to the stored procedure is working correctly (stuff is stored to the given table). The output from the stored procedure is working correctly (i can execute a direct call with the given parameters and stuff works. I can see profiler calling and passing. I can replace all code with 'select 'true' as updated' and the error is the same. everything up to the response.write statement above is correct. So something changed how ADO renders that particular recordset. So i try: Response.Write myRS.Item.count and get: Error number: 424 Error description: Object required The recordset object seems not to be instantiating but the command object _did execute.   • UISearchDisplayController not working when created in code??

    I'm working on a tab bar application and one of the tabs has a UISearchDisplayController hooked up to a UISearchBar. It's all connected up in the NIB and is working. When I tap the search bar, the Scope and Cancel buttons fly in etc, and the search delegate updates the results table correctly. However, I'm trying to implement the same code in the viewDidLoad message instead of the NIB, however when I delete the search display controller from the NIB and uncomment my code to create the same controller in the function, it doesn't work. It's as if there's some fundamental connection not being made so that all my search delegate functionality isn't being called. Here's my working NIB version of the Search Display Controller. It's hooked up to the search bar, the UINavigationController subclass (MASearchController) and the root view of that is hooked up as the searchContentsController. Now this is what you would expect to do in code to create the same, right? What I'm doing is leaving the UISearchBar in the NIB to eliminate one piece of the puzzle at a time in code. // [MASearchController viewDidLoad] UISearchDisplayController *searchController = [[[UISearchDisplayController alloc] initWithSearchBar:searchBar contentsController:[[self viewControllers] objectAtIndex:0]] autorelease]; [searchController setDelegate:self]; [searchController setSearchResultsDelegate:self]; [searchController setSearchResultsDataSource:self]; I've checked all objects at run time and they all check out. Essentially I've deleted the search display controller from the NIB and then put in the code to create it in the viewDidLoad message. Why would this not work? The search keyboard comes up but none of my search and button animation functionality work???
