• How to calculate maximum number of request in 128 MB VPS performance?

  I am a newbie here, please let me know if I'm using wrong webmaster terms. I am currently setting up a VPS for a multi site WordPress. The VPS uses Debian 6 LNMP setup and the DNS is being taken care by another service. Currently the VPS is running non multi site WordPress with -+ 83 MB RAM out of 128MB. As far as I know the performance is relative to the number of request, not the number of sites in the multi site setup. The question How do I calculate maximum number of request in with that setup? If the information is not enough, what other factor do I need to know? Thank you in advance.

  The process of Extracting, Transforming, and Loading data in to a data warehouse is called Extract Transform Load (ETL) process.  This process can be used to obtain, analyze, and clean data from various data sources so that it can be stored in a uniform manner within a data warehouse. This data can then be used by various business intelligence processes to provide an organization with more of an in depth analysis of the current state of the company and where it is heading. A standard ETL process that might be used by a health care system may include importing all of their patients names, diagnoses and prescriptions in to a unified data warehouse so that trends can be spotted in regards to outbreaks like the flu and also predict potential illness that a patient might be affected by based on other patients with similar symptoms.

• Setting up lvm with HDD and SSD

  My current hard drive is just about full and rather than just toss it and get a new one (since it works fine), I want to get a new drive and set them both up using lvm. While I'm at it, I also want to get an SSD to install the OS and applications on. This is my plan: Put / on the SSD (one partition) Put /tmp on a ram disk Put /var on a partition on my new drive Put /home on the rest of the new drive and my current drive using lvm. My goals are: Speed up boot time and application launch Minimize unnecessary writes to the SSD Never have to worry about which disk/partition to store my files on. I want the OS & lvm to take care of that Does this make sense? I'm fairly experienced with Ubuntu but I've never dealt with lvm before.

• Why did 13.10 break my custom keyboard layout?

  I was using a custom keyboard layout. Basically I modified the us-mac layout to fit my ideal of a math-heavy version of the regular us layout that also throws German umlauts into mix. It went well and worked marvelously for 6 consecutive versions of Ubuntu. Today's version Upgrade (from 13.04 to 13.10) broke that streak. I now have the usual crappy Macintosh-Layout. Now xkb just ignores my layout and all of the other changes I make in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/us (tried to switch '0' and '9' everywhere and rebooted - no effect). Why is that? I suspect I have to do an extra step now for the changes to take effect or something like that. Anyone care to point me in the right direction?

• HP dv6-2119tx cant find the built in tv tuner?? Ubuntu 12.10

  Installed Ubuntu 12.10 yesterday and I've been playing around trying to get all the drivers for my dv6. I have taken care of the the graphics card and the sound card which to be honest is not the greatest drivers I have found. Specs are Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz with nvidia gt230 My problem atm is the tv tuner card! Ive searched everywhere but i cant even find something to start on. I guess I am still clueless but I really dont know what to do??? I really dont want windows anymore so if anyone could guide me Id really appreciate it. Thanks...

All too frequently I get spam from users across the globe that enter things like this: Country - 1: Australia Material - 1: CELESTRON NEXTAR 6SE Country - 2: Australia Material - 2: C8 Newton Country - 3: Australia Material - 3: ETX 125EC Country - 4: Australia Material - 4: ETX 125EC Country - 5: Australia Material - 5: CELESTRON NEXTAR 6SE I don't really care about the country, but what is it with the telescope stuff? Is there some hidden meaning behind all this or is it some astronomy group that moonlights as spammers?

• Master Data Management - The Trend Towards Multi-Domain and Other Realities

  In my quest to keep my fingers on the pulse of MDM, I recently found a pretty interesting article.  The article was published in Information Week and provides some interesting statistics from a recent survey conducted by the analyst firm, The Information Difference.  Let's take a look: Of the 130 organizations surveyed, 53% have live operational MDM implementations 81% of those with live operational MDM implementations report broad success - a huge improvement over 2011's 54% 64% developed a business case prior to their MDM deployment, while a daring 32% went ahead without a business case.    The article goes on to talk about the shift in vendors from focusing on customer data and product information management to one that is oriented around multi-domain master data management as well as other realities around MDM.  Take a look at the article. • Is there benefit to maintain a large project with bad code?

  I'm currently maintain a large project with more than 100000 LOC. The code use the MFC as its framework, in genral, it only has interface part which heavily use the mfc api and a business logic part which full of bad code, confusing logic. The company has some small features delivered to the customer each year(most features are adding code to exisiting project, finding some reference of some api or variable and it' s no different with fixing 3-4 bugs ), most of the tasks are to resove issue and optimize performance . Like other company with maintaining position, it value people who knows much logic about its product. There are people who can quickly finish the job on such project, is it worth to train myself like such a programmer? Is there benifits to work on such project for a long time?

• Advantages of country TLD vs. .com

  I want to get a domain for my site. The site's topic would be about Vienna, but the content will be in English. I was thinking, if I should get .com domain or .at domain. .at is both much cheaper and easier to get (there is less chance that my desired phrase is already registered). Is there any disadvantage in terms of SEO and page rank, if my domain does not end with .com? The site will be in English and targeted not just for Austria, but globally, mostly foreign tourists. I don't care if it's easy to remember the address, I expect most traffic to be from search engines anyway.

• Temenos WealthManager: performance benchmark on Exadata

  Temenos WealthManager is at work in financial institutions of all sizes. No matter the size, each of Temenos’ customers has one requirement in common: a need for fast technology. This led Temenos to conduct a performance benchmark, running its WealthManager platform on Oracle Exadata Database Machine. During the study, Temenos executed high-intensity financial engines two- to three-times faster than its previous internal benchmarks and/or largest customer throughput. The company also demonstrated greater than two-times the average improvement in response times for six-times the number of users and data volumes. Further, Temenos secured a two-times gain in service-level agreements for batch and user-oriented workloads via dedicated or parallelized processing windows. Last year Temenos also communicated the availability of its T24 core banking system and how the benchmark run demonstrated the ability of Oracle’s Exadata platform to comfortably support the highest banking volumes for T24.   It's for a Point of Sale Terminal where the customer will bring the physical credit card and it will be swiped through the terminal. The business has a merchant account on some banks. So, how do I start accepting credit cards in my app? The credit cards that needs to be accepted include: visa, master-card, amex, discover. Which APIs do I need to use? The programming language doesn't matter it can be in any programming languages Java/C#/C++/Python or anything. Will there be a single API or multiple APIs that need to be integrated? (I know some about PCI compliance and security encryption)

• How to redirect visitors to the server that is closest to them and where to place the servers?

  I am focusing on providing fast page refreshes for my visitors and I wonder where is the smartest spot to place my servers on? I understand that the best would be to place a server in every country or even city, but that is of course not doable with my economy. I am thinking of maybe setting up three servers, one in the middle of USA (Kansas?), one in Italy and one in Sweden. What do you think about that? I don't care about Africa since they haven't even got computers so I won't get traffic from there anyway. China, North Korea etc are probably just visiting chinese websites, they barely know english anway... The next problem is how do I redirect a visitor from Finland to the Swedish server? I don't want the visitor from Finland to be using the USA server or vice versa.

• Hiring developers - listing IDE as a requirement?

  I've been looking at some job postings and noticed that a fair amount of them list IDEs under the 'required skills' section, even for senior positions. This is not localized to one company either, but rather it's something that comes up once in every few postings. I am perplexed by this job requirement, as my mentors and some of the best coders I've seen in my life were VIM/Emacs ninjas. Similarly, when I work with people I don't much care what tools they use as long as they are productive on the team. Can someone please explain the rationale behind hiring managers making IDEs an official job requirement?

  Sometimes when using Master Pages you need to set a property on a control from the content page. An example might be changing a label’s text to reflect some content (e.g. customer name) being viewed or maybe to change the visibility of a control depending on the rights a user may have in the application. There are different ways to do this but this is the one I like. First on the code behind of the Master Page create the property that needs to be accessed.
