  Hi! Just a very small question... I seem to run into too much complexity here: I have to realize an index-structure like {42, someString}. I tried: Object entry[][] = new Object[1][1]; ArrayList<Object> my_list = new ArrayList<Object>(); However that looks really strange. Isn't there a better much simpler solution to just store some Integer and a String? I need to perfrom search for the Strings and return the Integer... so I thought Collections and ArrayLists are good friends in the Java API.

  I currently have my web.xml configured to catch 404s and send them to my spring controller which will perform a search given the original URL request. The problem lies in resolving the view's path to the /WEB-INF/jsp/ directory. Using a logger in my JBoss setup, I can see that when I test this search controller by going to a non-existent page, the following occurs: Server can't find the request Request is sent to 404 error page (in this case my search controller) Search controller performs search Search controller returns view name (for this illustration, we'll assume test.jsp is returned) Based off of server logger, I can see that org.springframework.web.servlet.view.JstlView is initialized once my search controller returns the view name (so I can assume it is being picked up correctly by the InternalResourceViewResolver) Server attempts to return content to browser resulting in a 404! A couple things confuse me about this: I'm not 100% sure why this isn't resolving when test.jsp clearly exists under the /WEB-INF/jsp/ directory. Even if there was some other problem, why would this result in a 404? Shouldn't a 404 error page that results in another 404 theoretically create an infinite loop? Thanks for any help or pointers! • Using CreateFileMapping between to programs - C

  Hello, I have two window form applications written in C, one holds a struct consisting of two integers, another will receive it using the CreateFileMapping. Although not directly related I want to have three events in place so each of the processes can "speak" to each other, one saying that the first program has something to pass to the second, one saying the first one has closed and another saying the second one has closed. What would be the best way about doing this exactly? I've looked at the MSDN entry for the CreateFileMapping operation but I'm still not sure as to how it should be done. I didn't want to start implementing it without having some sort of clear idea as to what I need to do. Thanks for your time.

• Cron expressions: leading zeros ok?

  A quartz-scheduled process did not kick off last evening. The only thing that looks like it MIGHT be off is that, in one entry: 0 00 23 13,15 APR ? The "minutes" field is specified as a 2-digit 00 rather than a single-digit 0. I can't find any definitive cron documentation saying whether or not this would cause a problem. I can't test it again until the off-hours. Anyone know for sure if this could be a problem? if so, it's rather a silly one.

  I have TableA in a many-to-many relationship with TableC via TableB. That is, TableA TableB TableC id | val fkeyA | fkeyC id | data I wish the do select sum(val) on TableA, grouping by the relationship(s) to TableC. Every entry in TableA has at least one relationship with TableC. For example, TableA 1 | 25 2 | 30 3 | 50 TableB 1 | 1 1 | 2 2 | 1 2 | 2 2 | 3 3 | 1 3 | 2 should output 75 30 since rows 1 and 3 in Table have the same relationships to TableC, but row 2 in TableA has a different relationship to TableC. How can I write a SQL query for this?

• Sort database entries via a dropdown list

  Hello! I'm curious if anyone could possibly help me, because I can't find anything exactly related to it anywhere, and it's driving me nuts. I'd like to have a dropdown list on a page, that will give the visitor the option to sort all entries by year. I have entries from i.e. 2001, 2005, 2009, 2010. The years should be displayed in the dropdown, so the visitor can easily just select all entries dated 2001 if they want. The year for each entry is located in the one database table I have. In other words, I simply want a "sort by" dropdown that you can see on pretty much any shopping site nowadays. But with set years. Thanks in advance for any replies!

• Semicolon in object variable name

  There's a common LDAP attribute called userCertificate;binary. It actually has a semi-colon in the attribute name. In ruby, I turn an LDAP entry into a OpenStruct object called 'struct'. struct.class = OpenStruct But of course ruby thinks it's an end-of-line character. ? struct.userCertificate;binary NameError: undefined local variable or method `binary' for main:Object from (irb):52 from :0 IRB knows that the local variable is there, because it gives me struct.userCertificate;binary from the tab auto-completion. I can also see the class variable when calling struct.methods on it. struct.methods = ... "send", "methods", "userCertificate;binary=", "hash", ... It's definitely there, I can see the contents if I print the whole variable to_s(). But how can I access the local variable when it has a semicolon in it? I have workarounds for this but I thought it was an interesting problem to post.

• ASP.NET MVC: trying out a script injection hangs Visual Studio 2010 completely?

  Wondering if anyone has an idea of whats going on: I am new to ASP.NET MVC and am trying out a few things with jquery/ajax. The basic scenario is a dropdownlist with an add button next to it. Clicking the add button launches a jquery ui dialog with a textbox form, entering a value saves the item to the database and refreshes the drop-downlist. The dropdownlist is re-populated using a JSON result. This all works ok. I thought I would try a script injetion attack, ie add the text: alert("oh dear") to seee what would happen and to check if I need to encode anything. When I try and save this item (similar to the same process of adding a plain text entry) Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 hangs completely. Any ideas? UPDATE: It happens when posting: "</"

• Disambiguating Named Entities in Java

  I have a list of strings (company names, in this case), and a Java program that extracts a list of things that look like company names out of mostly-unstructured text. I need to match each element of extracted text to a string in the list. Caveat: the unstructured text has typos, things like "Blah, Inc." referred to as "Blah," etc. I've tried Levenshtein Edit Distance, but that fails for predictable reasons. Are there known best-practices ways of tackling this problem? Or am I back to manual data-entry?

• Git - Committing Machine Specific Configuration Files

  A common scenario when I develop is that the codebase will have several config files which require machine specific settings. These files will be checked into Git and other developers will always accidentally check them back in and break someone else's configuration. A simple solution to this would be to just not check them in to Git, or even to additionally add a .gitignore entry for them. However, I find that it is much more elegant to have some sensible defaults in the file which the developer can modify to suit his needs. Is there an elegant way to make Git play nicely with such files? I would like to be able to modify a machine-specific configuration file and then be able to run "git commit -a" without checking that file in.

• Free object/widget in GTK?

  I've got a pack box in my GTK application and I'm replacing it every once in a while with a completely new entry (at least for now cause I'm in a hurry). Since I'm replacing it with a new instance, do I need to explicitly free from memory the old pack box contents or is there some garbage collection in GTK? If I do need to explicitly need to free the object, is there a command that will recursively go to all objects in that tree (like will it clear my button in a box container inside my main pack box)? I'm using C/GTK-2.0 (gcc v4.4.3 and GTK 2.20.0).

  Hi All, This might be a duplicate entry. Excuse me if it is. I was asked in an interview as to how does Windows OS differentiate between regular exe and .Net exe. My reply was, when .Net exe is build, the compiler emits some information into the header. The information is PE32 or PE32+. windows verifies the header to determine if it needs to load the MSCOREE.dll which loads the CLR and executes the exe. I am not sure if my answer is correct ?   If I create an array of strings (via key-value coding) containing the names of a Managed Object entity's attributes which are stored in the App Delegate the first time, I get an array of NSStrings without any problems. If I subsequently make the same call later from the same entry point in code, that same collection becomes an array of NULL objects- even though nothing in the Core Data Context has changed.   So, I have a 'development blog' in a rails app I'm working on right now. I'm using Git for version control and deployment (although right now I'm the only person working on it). Now, when I make changes in Git I put a pretty decent log entry about what I've done. I'd love to have the Git commit log automatically posted to the development blog -- or otherwise available for others to read within the deployed site. Is there an automated way to pull the Git Commit Log into a view in a rails app?

• SSPI Errors for SQL Server Authentication?!

  We have several old ASP and PHP web applications which use SQL Server Authentication. Periodically, all the applications lose the ability to connect to our SQL Server 2000 database server, getting access denied. Corresponding to roughly the same times, we are getting 1115 Cannot generate SSPI Context SQLSTATE HY000 errors on the SQLServer 2000 server. And here's the weird part - rebooting the web server fixes the problem. Rebooting the database server has no effect. This makes no sense to me - I didn't think SSPI was in any way involved with SQL Server Authentication. Any ideas? Edit: Some additional details: The web server is in the DMZ. The hosts file on the web server has an entry for the database server (and the ip address is correct), so the web server (theoretically at least) shouldn't even be going to DNS to connect to the database server. It does not appear to be a firewall issue.

  MSDN says that public static members of System.Windows.Application are thread safe. • How can I generate a random human-readable colour from a seed? C#

  Got a logfile, and it has all kinds of text in it. Currently it is just displayed as one colour, and each entry says something like: Log from section 1: Some text here Log from section 125: Some text here Log from section 17: Some text here Log from section 1: Some text here Log from section 125: Some text here Log from section 1: Some text here Log from section 17: Some text here Now the logfile is displayed in real time, and it would be nice to make the rows with the same section number the same colour. However there could be potentially quite a large range of numbers. What I want to do is create a method that will take a number, and randomly generate a unique colour. The colour must be readable against a black background though, so #000000 is no good, nor is #101010 or anything too dark to read. Ideally two similar numbers will not produce the same colour because in the above examples, the numbers 1 and 17 might be too similar, and some numbers might be in the 10,000 range. Any ideas on this?

  I want to build an ant script that does exactly the same compilation actions on a Flash Builder 4 (Gumbo) project as the Project->Export Release Build... menu item does. My ant-fu is reasonably strong, that's not the issue, but rather I'm not sure exactly what that entry is doing. Some details: I'll be using the 3.x SDK (say, 3.2 for the sake of specificity) to build this. I'll be building on a Mac, and I can happily use ant, make, or some weird shell script stuff if that's the way you roll. Any useful optimizations you can suggest will be welcome. The project contains a few assets, MXML and actionscript source, and a couple of .swcs that are built into the project (not RSL'd) Can someone provide an ant build.xml or makefle that they use to build a release .swf file from a similar Flex project?
