  I have a weird situation. I have three entities, Company, Employee, Plan and Participation (in retirement plan). Company PK: Company ID Plan PK: Company ID, Plan ID Employee PK: Company ID, SSN, Employee ID Participation PK: Company ID, SSN, Plan ID The problem is in linking the employee to the participation. From a DB perspective, participation should have Employee ID in the PK (it's not even in table). But it doesn't. NHibernate won't let me map the "has many" because the link expects 3 columns (since Employee PK has 3 columns), but I'd only provide 2. Any ideas on how to do this?

  Hi I tried to override HTTP request header content by using jQuery's AJAX function. It looks like this $.ajax({ type : "POST", url : url, data : data, contentType: "application/x-www-form-urlencoded;charset=big5", beforeSend: function(xhr) { xhr.setRequestHeader("Accept-Charset","big5"); xhr.setRequestHeader("Content-Type","application/x-www-form-urlencoded;charset=big5"); }, success: function(rs) { target.html(rs); } }); Content-Type header is default to "application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=UTF-8", but it obviously I can't override its value no matter I use 'contentType' or 'beforeSend' approaches. Could anyone adivse me a hint that how do I or can I change the HTTP request's content-type value? thanks a lot. btw, is there any good documentation that I can study JavaScript's XMLHttpRequest's encoding handling?

• Can I use foreign key restrictions to return meaningful UI errors with PHP

  I want to start by saying that I am a big fan of using foreign keys and have a tendency to use them even on small projects to keep my database from being filled with orphaned data. On larger projects I end up with gobs of keys which end up covering upwards of 8 - 10 layers of data. I want to know if anyone could suggest a graceful way of handling 'expected errors' from the MySQL database in a way that I can construct meaningful messages for the end user. I will explain 'expected errors' with an example. Lets say I have a set of tables used for basic discussions: discussion questions responses users Hierarchically they would probably look something like this: -users --discussion ---questions ----responses When I attempt to delete a user the FKs will check discussions and if any discussion exist the deletion is restricted, deleting discussion checks questions, deleting questions checks responses. An 'expected error' in this case would be attempting to delete a user--unless they are newly created I can anticipate that one or more foreign keys will fail causing an error. What I WANT to do is to catch that error on deletion and be able to tell the end user something like 'We're sorry, but all discussions must be removed before you can delete this user...'. Now I know I can keep and maintain matching arrays in PHP and map specific errors to messages but that is messy and prone to becoming stagnant, or I could manually run a set of selects prior to attempting the deletion, but then I am doing just as much work as without using FKs. Any help here would be greatly appreciated, or if I am just looking at this completely wrong then please let me know. On a side note I generally use CodeIgniter for my application development, so if that would open up an avenue through that framework please consider that in your answers. Thanks in Advance

  I have a table ('sales') in a MYSQL DB which should have rightfully have had a unique constraint enforced to prevent duplicates. To first remove the dupes and set the constraint is proving a bit tricky. Table structure (simplified): 'id (unique, autoinc)' product_id The goal is to enforce uniqueness for product_id. The de-duping policy I want to apply is to remove all duplicate records except the most recently created, eg: the highest id Or to put another way, I would like to delete duplicate records, excluding the ids matched by the following query: select id from sales s inner join (select product_id, max(id) as maxId from sales group by product_id having count(product_id) > 1) groupedByProdId on s.product_id and s.id = groupedByProdId.maxId I've struggled with this on two fronts - writing the query to select the correct records to delete and then also the constraint in MYSQL where a subselect FROM clause of a DELETE cannot reference the same table from which data is being removed.

  Hello, Im using Firefox 3.5.9. When i visit a url , it sets a cookie on my computer.I can see this cookie in Firefox by going to Tools-Options-Privacy,then clicking on 'Remove Individual Cookies'. There is a folder called xyz,which contains a cookie named JSessionId and which has some Content value . If i use curl in my php code to navigate to that website,is there a way i can read the Content value of that cookie programmatically ? . Some sample code would be really appreciated. Thank You

  I've got a PostgreSQL 8.4 table with an auto-incrementing, but nullable, integer column. I want to update some column values and, if this column is NULL then set it to its default value (which would be an integer auto-generated from a sequence), but I want to return its value in either case. So I want something like this: UPDATE mytable SET incident_id = COALESCE(incident_id, DEFAULT), other = 'somethingelse' WHERE ... RETURNING incident_id Unfortunately, this doesn't work - it seems that DEFAULT is special and cannot be part of an expression. What's the best way to do this?

  I had a row in my database: starttime:4/6/2012 2:00pm, Endtime:31/12/9999, name:"swetha", status:"open"..... When I update this row I changed the starttime to the current time (getdate()) and have no issues. I am running a Windows Service each day at 1am to modify a value in the row. I would like to know the status of my row at 4/6/2012 11:59 pm when my service runs. There is no need to do an update at 4/6/2012 11:59 pm and the last update may be at any time of the day however my requirement is to get the status value at 4/6/2012 11:59 pm. I would like to have the query in SQL Server 2008. Can anyone please help me to find a solution?

  I've searched around for the answer to this and found lots of much more complicated questions, but none that gave me insight enough to figure this one out. What I'm doing: 1- open a page with a number that will probably be large 2- get the X Path to where that number is and store it to a variable 3- do a javascript to compare the above stored variable to see if it is bigger than 10, if so, set a new varaible to true; else false (because that is the default value) 4- verify the variable in #3 is true Sounds simple enough, no? Where it goes wrong: At step 3, comparing the variable from step #2 to 10 isn't allowed, at least not the way I'm writing it. Why? • Delete cell content in Libre (Open) Office based on the cell value

  I have a huge csv file (tens of thousands of rows) that I need to filter based on different criteria. After trying to find a proper CSV editor, I decided to use LibreOffice Calc. CSVed is great, but it doesn't support neither UTF-8 nor macros for advanced filtering. So, there are 4 columns, 3 of which contain numbers (with decimal numbers) and 1 of which contains text. I'm trying to find a way to delete rows with a macro code. I can achieve the desired behavior with filters too, but it's annoying to type all of the filtering values over and over again and there doesn't seem to be a way to export the filter and us it repeatedly. These rows should be deleted: The ones that don't contain certain words in textual column (column A). There are a few thousand different words used in that column and I want to keep only the rows that contain one of about 30 words in that column. Additionally, the number is the other columns should be bigger than 3.8 (column B), 4.5 (column C) and smaller than 20 (column C). The row-deletion type is "Shift up". Hopefully I have explained it well. Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

  Dear all. I was wondering if there are examples of situations where you would purposefully pass an argument by value in C. Let me rephrase. When do you purposefully use C's pass-by-value for large objects? Or, when do you care that the object argument is fully copied in a local variable? EDIT: Now that I think about it, if you can avoid pointers, then do. Nowadays, "deep" copying is possible for mostly everything in small apps, and shallow copying is more prone to pointer bugs.   Hi guys, I am faced with the dilemma of changing my primary keys from int identities to Guid. I'll put my problem straight up. It's a typical Retail management app, with POS and back office functionality. Has about 100 tables. The database synchronizes with other databases and receives/ sends new data. Most tables don't have frequent inserts, updates or select statements executing on them. However, some do have frequent inserts and selects on them, eg. products and orders tables. Some tables have upto 4 foreign keys in them. If i changed my primary keys from 'int' to 'Guid', would there be a performance issue when inserting or querying data from tables that have many foreign keys. I know people have said that indexes will be fragmented and 16 bytes is an issue. Space wouldn't be an issue in my case and apparently index fragmentation can also be taken care of using 'NEWSEQUENTIALID()' function. Can someone tell me, from there experience, if Guid will be problematic in tables with many foreign keys. I'll be much appreciative of your thoughts on it...

It appears since the xmlns is defined without an alias it automatically assigns that xmlns to the Settings node.   Is it possible to get a value from the external CSS of a page if the element that the style refers to has not been generated yet? (the element is to be generated dynamically). The jQuery method I've seen is $('element').css('property','value');, but this relies on element being on the page. Is there a way of finding out what the property is set to within the CSS rather than the computed style of an element? Will I have to do something ugly like add a hidden copy of the element to my page so that I can access its style attributes?

  The following registry key contains many system default folder locations. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders The value for the path of the All Users desktop, which is found there, is as follows: XP or earlier : [%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Desktop] Vista or later: [%PUBLIC%\Desktop] Whereas the actual paths of the All User desktops, respectively, are as follows: XP or earlier : "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop" Vista or later: "C:\Users\Public\Desktop" Now, if you use copy and paste the above registry values in Windows Explorer and hit enter it takes you to the actual folders. For example, if you paste [%PUBLIC%\Desktop] in a Windows Explorer in Vista it takes you to ["C:\Users\Public\Desktop"]. My question is this; how do I reproduce this behavior from withing a C# program? To be more specific, if I retrieve the registry value [%PUBLIC%\Desktop] from withing a C# program, which I can do easily, how do I convert it to ["C:\Users\Public\Desktop"]? Obviously I'm not looking for a string replacement, I need to do what Windows does.
