• Daemon with Clojure/JVM

  I'd like to have a small (not doing too damn much) daemon running on a little server, watching a directory for new files being added to it (and any directories in the main one), and calling another Clojure program to deal with that new file. Ideally, each file would be added to a queue (a list represented by a ref in Clojure?) and the main process would take care of those files in the queue on a FIFO basis. My question is: is having a JVM up running this little program all the time too much a resource hog? And do you have any suggestions as to how go about doing this? Thank you very much!

• Copying OS X account settings to new user account

  Hi I hope someone can help me... I accidentally renamed my own user name on my mac running OS X 10.4.11 and tried renaming back to what it was but now I have two accounts (the one I want to use which has all my preferences, applications, mail boxes, etc etc) is it possible to copy my settings from my original into this new user name? When I open my computer it defaults to this new account but everything is setting up from new and I just need to get access to all my work documents, mail settings etc. If there is anyone who could help out, I would be very grateful. Thank you in advance.

• ActiveMQ 5.2.0 + REST + HTTP POST = java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

  First off, I am a newbie when it comes to JMS & ActiveMQ. I have been looking into a messaging solution to serve as middleware for a message producer that will insert XML messages into a queue via HTTP POST. The producer is an existing system written in C++ that cannot be modified (so Java and the C++ API are out). Using the "demo" examples and some trial and error, I have cobbled together a working example of what I want to do (on a windows box). The web.xml I configured in a test directory under "webapps" specifies that the HTTP POST messages received from the producer are to be handled by the MessageServlet. I added a line for the text app in "activemq.xml" ('ow' is the test app dir): I created a test script to "insert" messages into the queue which works well. The problem I am running into is that it as I continue to insert messages via REST/HTTP POST, the memory consumption and thread count used by ActiveMQ continues to rise (It happens when I have timely consumers as well as slow or non-existent consumers). When memory consumption gets around 250MB's and the thread count exceeds 5000 (as shown in windows task manager), ActiveMQ crashes and I see this in the log: Exception in thread "ActiveMQ Transport Initiator: vm://localhost#3564" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread It is as if Jetty is spawning a new thread to handle each HTTP POST and the thread never dies. I did look at this page: http://activemq.apache.org/javalangoutofmemory.html and tried but that didn't fix the problem (although I didn't fully understand the implications of the change either). Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks! Bruce Loth PS - I included the "test message producer" python script below for what it is worth. • MX record configuration for hosted email?

  I am helping a friend with his website, and am having a problem with his webmail configuration, which I suspect is due to a misconfigured MX record. His domain is registered and hosted by hostmonster, they have a webmail option. A record: Host Points To TTL webmail 12.345.789.101 14400 CNAME: mail webmail.d.com 14400 MX Record: 0 @ mail.d.com 14400 I've created an email account on hostmonster, [email protected]: however, when I sent an email to this account, it appears to be routing to /dev/null. I know that it's not actually, but am unsure of the steps I can take to track this down? I've tried using dig, but am unsure where to start. How can I track down where this email is being routed to?

• Server error 500: Undefinable problem with my Zend Framework based site

  Hello everyone, Lately I had to reinstall my development site on my ubuntu machine since my system crashed after an os update. 4 days later my site is still not running as it should. Whenever i do an action which has in it an action on a database, it stops working. • Can't send emails through sendmail, error occured

  Hi, I have sendmail MTA and i use pear:Mail class to send mails through remote sendmail server. Everything was fine till yesterday. Probably nothing changes was made in configs. At maillog i can see: May 6 12:58:55 xxx sendmail[25903]: STARTTLS=server, relay=hostxxxx.static.xx.xx.pl [85.x.x.x], version=TLSv1/SSLv3, verify=NO, cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA, bits=256/256 May 6 12:58:56 xxx sendmail[25903]: o46AwtqE025903: hostxxxx.static.xx.xx.pl [85.x.x.x] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA2 and in /var/log/messages: May 6 13:00:17 lilia sendmail[27193]: realm changed: authentication aborted I use ldap to authenticate users but i used the same script to check mailing on another server and it works there good, only this server behave weird. Packets are deliverd to sendmail server i can see it in tcpdump, but there is smaller packets than on other server which sends emails. Could you tell me how can i check what is wrong with that? D.S.

• Cloud Agnostic Architecture?

  Hi, I'm doing some architecture work on a new solution which will initially run in Windows Azure. However I'd like the solution (or at least the architecture/design) to be Cloud Agnostic (to whatever extent is realistic). Has anyone done any work on this front or seen any good white papers/blog posts? Our highlevel architecture will consist of a payload being sent to a web service (WCF for instance), this will be dumped on a queue (for arguments sake) and a worker process will grab messages off this queue and proccess them. There will be a database of customer information which we'd ideally like to keep out of the cloud however there are obvious performance considerations. Keen to hear other's thoughts. Cheers Dave

  I am looking for a hosted email service for a handful of email accounts. It needs to be very reliable and provide a nice web mail interface. I would like an admin where I can manage accounts. I've used Communigate before, it's functional but ugly. Exchange web mail is feature rich enough, but isn't as performant as the later two contestants. I am currently paying $50/yearly for hosted Gmail through Google. The features of the web email client are fine for personal use, but not flexible enough for professional use. The administration tools also suck. In short, I want a hosted service with a better experience than gmail or Communigate but is still speedy.

  Lets say I have a domain that I run a web app on, for example cranketywidgets.com, and I'm using google apps for handle email for people work work on that domain, i.e. support@ cranketywidgets.com, [email protected], [email protected] and so on. Google's own mail services aren't always the best for sending automated reminder emails, comment notifications and so on, so the current solution I plan to pursue is to create a separate subdomain called mailer.cranketywidgets.com, run a mail server off it, and create a few accounts specifically for sending these kinds of emails. What should the mx records and a records look like here for this? I'm somewhat confused by the fact that mx records can be names, but that they must eventually resolve to an A record. What should the records look like here? cranketywidgets.com - A record to actual server like 10.24.233.214 cranketywidgets.com - mx records for google's email apps mailer.cranketywidgets.com - mx name pointing to server's ip address Would greatly appeciate some help on this - the answer seems like it'll be obvious, but email spam is a difficult problem to solve.

• Sent items listed by sender's name (my name!) not recipient in Outlook for Mac 2011

  Outlook 2011 on a Mac (OSX7 Lion), on a (mostly PC) office network using Microsoft Exchange server. In Outlook 2011, in the network "Sent Items" folder, all emails are listed showing the sender's name (my name), not the recipients' names. That means every single email is headed with my own name, like this: My Name 08/09/2012 Some subject line [flag] My Name 08/09/2012 Re: Another subject line [flag] My Name 07/09/2012 Re: different subject line [flag] My Name 07/09/2012 different subject line [flag] ...and so on. There's no clue at all as to who these emails were to, until I open each and every one. I guess it's reassuring to be told that every email that I sent was sent by me... and if I was ever to forget my own name while browsing my sent emails folder, it'd be super useful... But it's not very helpful for navigating sent emails. Is this normal for Office for Mac 2011? How can I fix this, so that the list shows the recipients' names instead of endlessly reminding me of my own name? Things I've found while researching this: This can also happen in Outlook for Windows. On Windows, it's easily fixed by resetting the field. That method doesn't work on Mac because the fields can't be selected separately. It seems this can also happen in Apple Mail too, and a lot of people seem stumped by this. I can't find anything on this specific to Outlook 2011 or Outlook for Mac in general. A simple guide on how to fix this would be the best answer, but I'd also welcome any knowledgable thoughts from Microsoft Exchange Server people on whether this sounds like an Outlook settings issue which I can fix on my machine, or some issue relating to how the Mac gets data from the server and network. The fact that Apple Mail users have encountered the same issue with no apparent fix makes me think the problem might be in the network rather than the mail client - but that's way beyond my limited knowledge of these things. I don't know whether the local ("On my computer") Sent Items folder has the same problem, as it's configured so that no emails except drafts are ever stored in these local folders. Drafts saved locally are listed by recipient as expected.

  I am using MSMQ.MSMQQueueInfo with jscript on Windows 7 (the latest MSMQ version). This is being run on a domain joined computer. For some reason unknown to me, it just will not accept the PathName I give it (which is in an acceptable format). • Delivering from Postfix to Exchange

  I have someone with two domains, a.com and b.com. a.com is running a postfix server on the mx host for the domain and I have total control of the server. b.com is running an exchange server on the mx host for the domain and I do not have any control of this server. They have been using b.com as their primary mail address and use the exchange calender with outlook. They want all the same functionality but want to start using a.com as primary mail address. I opened up postfix to allow relay from the ip address of the exchange server and hopefully that's enough from the outgoing side. For delivery though what can I do to forward all incoming emails to the exchange server? I have some aliases defined in /etc/aliases that should take higher priority.

  This morning, our entire company received a spam message sent to [email protected], where "ourdomain.on.ca" is our actual domain. There is a distinguished name that this could correspond to: CN=Users,DC=ourdomain,DC=on,DC=ca Looking at the attributes though, there is no mail, no proxyAddresses, no signs that there is a mailbox configured there. I did some LDAP queries, searching for: (proxyAddresses=smtp:[email protected]) ([email protected]) But am not seeing any records. (I also search for known email addresses to ensure the tree was being searched properly.) We are running Exchange 2003. Is there another place to look for group email addresses? Is it possible that the distinguished name is being automatically translated to an email address?

• Using Dijkstra's algorithm with negative edges?

  Most books explain the reason the algorithm doesn't work with negative edges as nodes are deleted from the priority queue after the node is arrived at since the algorithm assumes the shortest distance has been found. However since negative edges can reduce the distance, a future shorter distance might be found; but since the node is deleted it cannot be updated. Wouldn't an obvious solution to this be to not delete the node? Why not keep the node in the queue, so if a future shorter distance is found, it can be updated? If I am misunderstanding the problem, what is preventing the algorithm from being used with negative edges?

• Recommendations for Spam Filter

  We are currently using MxGuardDog for spam filtering. It works by pointing our MX records at their mail servers. The service seems pretty good, it keeps out the obvious spam, but I would still say it let's through mail that to me is spam, but I accept that on the surface those emails may not flag any of the universally recognised indicators for spam. If an email comes through that I believe is spam, I can login to the Web Console and blacklist the email/domain. However, 99% of the time I don't because it's inconvenient - or, should i say, it's far less convenient than a button in Outlook that allows me to report the email/domain as spam. So, what we're looking for is a similar service i.e. cloud spam filtering that has an Outlook plugin so that Administrators/Users can report spam. We are only a small company, 10 users, so cost is of course an issue for us. Many thanks dotdev

  Ive been working on some command line stuff with an external developer through team viewer for work, to interact with th CL i use terminal on OSX, when working with the developer i was always watching what they were doing and i also have all the bash history. Usually upon opening terminal i get something like this Last login: Tue Sep 17 21:33:02 on ttys001 You have mail. unknown-5c:00:00:00:00:00:~ sam$ (note ive replaced some characters in the last line with 00) But today when i opened up terminal and i get this Last login: Mon Oct 21 16:49:35 on ttys000 You have mail. richies-ipad:~ sam$ Note it now says richies-ipad - any idea why this is ? I dont know any one called richie let alone let them have access to my machine. Is this something to be worried about - the fact that someone has enough access to change that ? Also what does the ttys001 part on the first line mean ?

  I am working on configuring /mutt/ to send mail via /msmtp/. Strangely, if I user /msmtp/ from shell, all okay, that means, that .msmtprc is correct. However, mail sent with mutt do not come. I have this line in .muttrc. set sendmail="msmtp" How can I debug this problem? EDIT: I found, that if I send just text, like msmtp 'my-email' <<< "Hello", it works. But if I send fully builded email-header, it do not. Is it gmail politics or what?

Currently I am trying to implement a simple application which can receive a text message sent by the user, fetch some information from the google search api, and return the results via text message to the user. It's a program named fetion from the mobile supplier in China. The client side fetion, just like a instant communication tool, can send/receive messages to/from other people who are using mobile to receive/send SMS. I am using a open source python program that simulates the fetion program. So basically I can use this python program to communate with others who using cell phone via SMS. My core program is based on java, so I need to take this python program into java environment. I am using jython, and now I am available to send messages to users by some lines of java codes. But the real question is the process of receving from users via SMS. In python code, a new thread is created to continuously listen to the user.
