• ASP.NET MVC 2 form submit route issue

  Hi, i'm having this issue, in ASP.NET MVC 2 where I'm adding a drop down list on the master page and filling it with data from an abstract master controller. When an option is selected an submit button clicked, it reroutes you to a new page. so lets say the page lives on http://domain.com/landingPage i'm on: http://domain.com/landingPage i select option and submit takes me to http://domain.com/landingPage/Projects/FramedPage i select again and now the post tries to go to: http://domain.com/landingPage/Projects/landingPage/Projects/FramedPage because of the action="" i have set on the form tag. Any ideas on how to go about this?   Backround: Suppose I have the following Git URLs (hosted on github) http://github.com/mikl/drupal.git git://github.com/mikl/drupal.git (Git read-only) I am interested in having a local copy of this repository so I can pratice working with branches in git and see how my local working tree can change depending on which branch I am working with. Questions: To get started, I set up a local directory and do git clone git://github.com/mikl/drupal.git ... Will this clone all of the branches? Or will it only clone master? The web front-end for github gives me a "drop down" menu that allows me to switch branches ... Does changing this drop-down actually change which branch I will be grabbing when I run git clone? If I want a new copy of this repository on my local machine, but I am interested in only two branches of this repository and I want to ignore all the rest, what command do I use to ensure I clone only those two branches and nothing else (assume one of the branches is master)?

• IIS7 Rewrite changing default button

  Hey, I've run into a strange problem regarding default buttons in master pages and IIS7 rewrite module. All my content pages have default buttons set in the code-behind (on prerender), or they are in panels on the aspx page. This works fine on my local machine and on the production server. However, when I enable IIS7 URL Rewrite, the default button is always to the one in the master page. protected void LoginButton_PreRender(object sender, EventArgs e) { Button btnDefault = sender as Button; this.Page.Form.DefaultButton = btnDefault.UniqueID; } That's how I set my default button in the code-behind. I'm not sure what the rewrite module could be doing. Thanks for any help

• My ASP.NET Web Application cannot 'find' any of my classes in the App_Code folder .. ??

  Hi folks, I'm trying to make a new asp.net web application .. so I'm copying my files from one site to the new one, in the same solution. Now, any of my classes in the App_Code directory ... they are not getting 'picked up' by the rest of my project. For example... \_ \_App_Code |_ BaseMasterPage.cs (please don't ask why this is in here..) |_ Utility.cs |_ FooBar.cs \_MasterPages |_ Default.master.cs // This file errors ;( namespace Foo.WebSite.MasterPages { public partial class Default_master : App_Code.BaseMasterPage { ... } } namespace Foo.WebSite.App_Code { public class BaseMasterPage : MasterPage { .. } } It cannot find the App_Code.BaseMasterPage (compilation and intellisence error) in the Default.master.cs page.   The following is a scenario I commonly face: You have a set of commits on master or design, that I want to put on top of production branch. I tend to create a new branch with the base as production cherry-pick these commits on it and merge it to production Then when I merge master to production, I face merge conflicts because even tho the changes are same, but are registered as a different commit because of cherry-pick. I have found some workarounds to deal with this, all of which are laborious and can be termed "hacks". Altho' I haven't done too much rebasing, I believe that too creates a new commit hash. Should I be using rebasing where I am cherrypicking. What other advantages does that have over this.

  Say I have a file called: "todo" It's a list of things I want to do for this project. I want this file associated with my git repo. I want there to be different revisions of this file, however, I don't want it associated with particular branches. For example: On branch master. Create some basic ToDo items Branch "dev1" Add more stuff to todo list Branch "dev2" from master. Add more stuff to todo list Now, I have different revisions of the todo file lying all around. I just want there to be one "todo" file -- is this possible? Does this make sense? Am I misusing todo somehow?

• asp:Menu Not working on webhost

  I'm using Visual Studio Web Express 2008 to develop an ASP.Net website. I have a master page that every page inherits from and on that master page I have the asp:menu control. On my local machine the menu control works just fine. The javascript is emitted and the links work as well. However, when I upload it to my webhost service provider, the javascript is not emitted and my links do not work. I'm getting a feeling that my service provider really doesn't know much about .Net as they suggested that I make sure that I upload the .js files which isn't necessary. Does anyone have any suggestions that I can give them? They're asking me what requirements are needed. It seems to me that something is not setup on their server properly but according to them, they have .Net 3.5 SP1 installed.

• Mirror a git repository by pulling?

  I am wondering if there is an easy way, ie like a simple cron job, to regularly pull from a remote git repository to a local read only mirror for backup purposes? Ideally it would pull all branches and tags, but the master/trunk/head would be sufficient. I just need a way to make sure that if the master git server dies, we have a backup location that we could manually fail over to. (I have been googling and reading documentation for help on how to do this for quite some time now and the furthest I have gotten is a bash script that does pull's on a regular interval.)

• Bash script "read" not pausing for user input when executed from SSH shell

  I'm new to Bash scripting, so please be gentle. I'm connected to a Ubuntu server via SSH (PuTTY) and when I run this command, I expect the bash script that downloads and executes to allow user input and then echo that input.   Hi all, I'm a beginner in WSS 3.0 and I'm having some problems with the navigation setup. I can't find any documentation that clearly recommends best practices in this area. I'm trying to create an intranet, custom look and feel, that should have a structure similar to: Company - News - News type 1 - News type 2 - Organogram - ... Employees - Employees 1 - Employees 2 - Employees 2_1 - ... How to properly set this up? Company, News, are sites/subsites? And News type 1 and 2 are pages within a site? I created as described above and in the master page of the main site I added some scripts that will be used by web parts, like jquery. The subsites will have their own master page and will not recognize the scripts, I need to add them there which is annoying. Any recommendations? Or some resource that provides best practices setting up these structures? Thx in advance

Of course I can parse the output of git status but this is not recommended since this human readable output is liable to change. There are two problems: How to know the remote tracked branch? It is often origin/branch but need not be. How to get the numbers? How to know whether it is ahead/behind? By how many commits? And what about the diverged branch case?

• using araxis merge for folder comparison on git branches (OSX)

  I know how to setup araxis merge to be my git diff / merge tool, so if I do git difftool it automatically launches araxis merge. However if I do git difftool upstream/master (to see all the differences between current branch and upstream/master), it launches the app one by one for every single file that is different. Is there a way of setting it up so I can get a folder comparison type view, and then go down and view each file diff as I choose? i.e. similar to this http://www.araxis.com/merge_mac/overview2.html The only way I've found to do this is to clone my repo into a new folder, switch to the branch there, and then do a normal araxis merge folder comparison.

  Hi, I have a enterprise application converted from VS2003 to vs2005 . The converted application, in one page i do edit and save i am getting this error. 'Multiple controls with the same ID 'hidWIPID0' were found But the same work fine in the code of vs2003 version without any error. Its a huge application with dynamic master pages and usercontrols etc..So i cant paste the exact code here. • ServerControl randomly null

  Hi, I got a master page with a server control in it. Randomly the server control is inaccessible from codebehind. This doesn't happen on a specific action (eg a Button click or so). Currently I have no clue what this could be. I don't think it's output caching since this is not explcitly activated and the error happens far to seldom for that. But I'm going to disable caching in the master page explicitly with next deployment. Anyone an idea how to find more info to find what's happening? Or has someone had a similar error? Thanks. sa

  as stated both of these do not work: Textbox1.Focus(); or Page.SetFocus(Textbox1); any idea why? this is the control itself: <asp:TextBox ID="Textbox1" ClientIDMode="Static" CssClass="Textbox1" runat="server" MaxLength="80"></asp:TextBox> it is located on a page, two master pages deep. the form tag is on the second master page, so that is why the focus is not being set there. not working in: ie, firefox, chrome and safari (all latest versions). help! thnx

  I'm just getting started with ASP.NET MVC. I'm going to be using JQuery on the website I'm making, but I'm not really sure about one thing: where would JQuery code be placed? This concerns two things: Where do I import the JQuery JavaScript file? (I've been thinking that the Master page would be a good place to do this; am I right, or do I have to import it in each view?) Should all my JQuery code be referenced from the Master page (i.e., I store my code that uses JQuery in a separate .js file and reference it in a <script> tag)? Thanks in advance.

  Hi, Our projects are using objects as the data source to reports. Our business layer is returning single objects or IEnumerable. Our reports (quite complex) need to display value-type properties of the object, and its related objects. Typical case would be, from a List, display a master report with category data, then a subreport with data for each Product inside each Category, then a subreport for each Part of each Product, and so on. Reporting from the database is not an option for us. We have tried so far - Reporting Services : works but have to mess around with the XML definition of the report to define the datasource classes, very hard to work with if you use an object datasource, architecturally not too clean - Telerik Reports : quite nice (esp., nice architecture) but seems to have problems with complex reports (master/sub), does not give great paging control, rumored to have performance/crash problems (immature product). Does anyone know a good reporting solution that can be integrated in an ASP.NET application and works well with objects as datasources ?

  Please help me understand how git works. I clone my remote repository on two different machines. I edit the same file on both machines. I successfully commit and push the update from the first machine to the remote repository. I then try to push the update on the second machine, but get an error: ! [rejected] master -> master (non-fast-forward) I understand why I received the error. How can I merge my changes into the remote repo? Do I need to pull the remote repo first?

• Alternative to Page_Load in ASP.NET (and a good WTF story)

  Woo, I have a doozy of a problem (might even be one for the Daily WTF) and I'm hoping there's a solution. (My apologies for the long post...) I have been working on a website that I inherited about a month ago. One of the parts I have been working on is fixing one of the controls (essentially a dynamic header bar) so that it displays additional information as requested by my users. As part of doing this project, I created a Site.master file so that I wouldn't have to recode the header bar into every single page. When I first started doing this, it seemingly worked very well. All the pages I had developed looked great and the bar updated as it should displaying the information as it should. Well, when I dropped the Site.master (and this control) into older site pages (ones I did not specifically develop) I noticed that it looked bad on some of them, but not all of them. When I say it looked bad, basically, the control would left-align itself to the page rather than center as it should. I spent a couple hours debugging to no avail - CSS looked correct, the HTML appeared to be okay, I didn't see anything in the Javascript (although, I did miss something as I'll point out in a second), and even the old code looked correct (to the best that it could - it's not very well written). Another coworker took a look at the site and couldn't find anything at first, either. It wasn't until I just thought to look at the rendered source code of the page (I had been working in the developer view up to this point in IE8) that it became clear what was wrong. The original developer performs searches on many of the pages. To accomplish this, he queries the database for ALL the data and then loads them into Javascript arrays within the page so he can get access to them. This in itself is a huge problem because we're talking about thousands of items, and it obviously isn't scalable (and, yes, the site is slow). However, it finally clicked what was screwing up the Site.master - when he loads the data into the Javascript arrays, he writes out the data to the HTML upon Page_Load using numerous Response.Write(string) calls. The WTF (and what was messing me up) is that he inserts the Javascript before the DOCTYPE causing IE to go into quirks mode! So, because I need to at least get this release out (I'll fix the real problem later), I was wondering: is there a way I can force this Javascript to be inserted elsewhere into the HTML—after the DOCTYPE at the very least? Right now, all the Response.Write() calls are being done in the Page_Load method. I just need them to be inserted later.
