  • Multiple Users Sharing Email Accounts - How to make messages "unread" for each user?

    Sorry if this isn't appropriate for webmasters stackexchange, but i'm not sure where it would go since it has to do with the logistics of setting up a website/email for a small company. I have an ecommerce store with multiple addresses such as: - [email protected] - [email protected] I'm not the only person managing the store. My partner and I both have those email accounts set up on each of our respective computers (right now it's using IMAP - he's on outlook and i'm on thunderbird). We have one major problem with this setup - If I read an email before he does, he doesn't know it ever arrived because the IMAP tells the server that the email has been "read". Of course, the same problem exists if he reads an email before I do. I understand that i can fix this problem by switching to POP3 and leaving the messages on the server. I'm okay with that... but it creates a NEW PROBLEM. If he replies to an email, it is no longer sync'd back to the server and therefore I can't read any emails that he has sent out. Same problem vice versa. This is also important for us because we want to know if one of us has already replied to an email so that the same thing isn't being done twice. With IMAP, all our sent emails are put in the Sent folder and synced to the server. What's a good way to set this up for a small company where email sharing is involved?     Have you ever wanted to fill an entire row or column with a series of values? If you’re an Excel user, you can do the same thing in Google Docs. If you haven’t used either, here’s the quick way to do it. Just type in a couple of numbers in sequence… 1 2 3 works pretty well. You could also put them across a row instead of down a column. Then move your mouse over the dot in the corner until the pointer changes, then just drag it downward (or if you are filling a row instead, you can drag it to the right). Let go of the mouse, and your data will be automatically filled in. You could also make it skip by 1 instead, like 2 4 6 8, etc… It all works the same way. Sadly there’s no really advanced options like Excel has, but for most uses, this is good enough. Also, we’re aware this is a very simple tip for most of you, but we’re trying to help the beginners out as well!     Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/tmurphy/archive/2013/10/10/carriers-holding-your-os-updates-hostage.aspx Just a small rant here.  Today the Windows Phone 8 GDR2 update finally became available for Nokia handset users.  Now I’m not sure that it is AT&T fault entirely that Samsung and HTC users got their updates two months ago and we are just finally seeing it.  It may have something to do with the Nokia Amber update.  But every Windows Phone update on AT&T from 7.1 on seems to have been delayed.  How is it that the premiere Windows Phone carrier is always the last one to release updates? Smart phone ecosystems are a partnership between the OS provider, the hardware manufacturer and the carriers.  If any one of those partners does not hold up its responsibilities then everyone gets a black eye.  The goal for all involved should be to release updates as early as possible with reasonable assurance of stability.  This ensures the satisfaction of consumers and increases the likelihood of future sales. From what I have seen so far AT&T has been the one breaking the consumer’s trust in the Windows Phone ecosystem.  Aside from voicing our dissatisfaction we may need to start voting with our feet until they realize that they being a poor citizen has consequences. That’s where you hold your arms up and a partner punches you in your midsection – your breadbasket. I put my arms up, and braced for impact. The trainer came over, saw I was a bit nervous, and coached me through. I can see the fear in your eyes. Don’t be afraid to take the punch. Tighten your core, breathe through the hit. Don’t panic. Over the summer we’d do counter drills as well. This is where a partner throws a punch, you defend but also throw one back – a counter punch. You never just sit back and take a beating, you deflect the blow and come back with one more powerful. These lessons on fighting can apply to all aspects of our lives and any attempts at success that we have. I saw this image recently and agree with it 100%: Success is never a straight forward line. It’s messy, its wrought with failures, its learning over time and applying those life lessons. It’s learning how to take punches and lose your fear, its seeing a punch coming and countering it, but most of all its not giving up and continually moving forward. We do stairs at boxing, which is running up and down three flights of stairs. I’m not anywhere near incredible shape and after doing multiple stairs in a single workout you can feel gassed, tired, even discouraged after hitting the second floor and seeing everyone else running by you. I read a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. that I cling to throughout my day: You want to be successful? Take the punches, but learn how to take them. Counter them. and no matter what, always move forward.

Getting them wrong—the risk of delays and schedule and cost overruns are ever present—introduces the potential for huge financial losses. This intrinsic link between long-term investment planning and short-term market performance is investigated in the independent report Stock Shock, written by a consultant from Clarity Economics and commissioned by the EPPM Board. A new international steering group organized by Oracle, the EPPM Board brings together senior executives from leading public and private sector organizations to explore the critical role played by enterprise project and portfolio management (EPPM). Stock Shock reviews several high-profile recent project failures, and combined with other research reviews the lessons to be learned. It analyzes how portfolio management is an exercise in balancing risk and reward, a process that places the emphasis firmly on executives to correctly determine which potential investments will deliver the greatest value and contribute most to the bottom line. Conversely, it also details how poor evaluation decisions can quickly impact the overall value of an organization’s project portfolio and compromise long-range capital planning goals. I have been meaning to make the short trip over from Stockholm to NDC for a few years, and this was the first time I made it. I have heard a lot of great things about the event, and was impressed with the location, the sessions, and most of all the atmosphere around the event boots and during the party on Thursday evening. The session I was delivering was my “Grid Computing with 256 Windows Azure Worker Roles & Kinect” demo, which I have delivered at many events over the past 12 months. The demo went fine. I’m always a little nervous when I try to scale out the application to 256 worker roles, it almost always works well and the application will scale in minutes, but very occasionally there can be a longer delay due to the provisioning process in the Windows Azure data centers. This would not be an issue for many scenarios, but when standing on stage in front of a room full of developers you really want things to run smoothly. A number of people have suggested that I should pre-provision an environment so that it is guaranteed to be there when I run the demo during a session. For me the aim has always been to show the rapid scalability on cloud-based platforms live on stage. Pre-provisioning an environment may make for a more reliable demo but to me that would be cheating, and not half as much fun!

On opening the contact on my desktop, I was surprised to see, I need to upgrade my account to view the contact. Doing some research along with my wife, I found this simple security vulnerability from LinkedIn that can let anyone view a contact’s full profile even when you have a “not upgraded” LinkedIn account and that the contact is a “3rd + Everyone Else”. Here’s an example of what I am talking about. I just made a random search on LinkedIn for a contact whose name starts with Sacha. Do note, this is just a walkthrough and I am not publicizing any Sacha. I check the “3rd + Everyone Else” and find a “LinkedIn Member”. On clicking this person’s profile to view, I am presented with the following page, asking me to upgrade. Make a note of this page’s web address and you get the profile id from it. For example, for this contact, the page address is: http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=868XXX35 The Profile Id for this contact is 868XXX35. Now, open following page where the Profile Id is the same as the one we grabbed a moment earlier. https://touch.www.linkedin.com/?#profile/868XXX35 The mobile page exposes this contact information and you even get the possibility to connect to this person without an introduction mail (InMail). I hope someone from LinkedIn sees and issues a fix for this. I am pretty sure, it’s something that they don’t want the user to do without purchasing an upgrade package.

  • SharePoint 2010 Single Page Apps without a Master Page

    Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/djacobus/archive/2014/06/06/156827.aspxWell, maybe a stretch, but I am inclined to believe it is so.  I have been using  the JavaScript Client Object Model (JCSOM) for about 6 months now and I believe it can do about 80% of my job quickly without much fanfare.  When building sites in SharePoint no one wants the OOTB list views, etc. They want a custom look and feel!  I used to think in previous engagements that this would mean some custom server code or at least a data-form web part.   Since coming on-board in my current engagement, I have been forced because we don’t own the hosting site to come up with innovative ways to customize the UI of SharePoint.  We can push content via sandbox solutions and use JCSOM from within SharePoint Designer to do almost all customizations.  I have been using the following methodology to accomplish this: 1. Create an HTML file, which links CSS and JavaScript Files 2. Create and ASPX Web Part Page, Include a Content Editor Web Part and link to the HTML page created above.   So basically once it was done, I could copy , paste,  and rename those 4 items: CC, JS, HTML. ASPX and using MVVM just change the Model, View, and View-Model in the JavaScript file.  in about 5 minutes, I could create a completely new web part with SharePoint data.  Styling would take a little longer.  Some issues that would crop up: 1.  Multiple(s) of these web parts would not work well together on the same page (context). 2.  To separate the Web parts and context I would create a separate page for each web part and link them to a tabs layout via a Page Viewer web part or I frame.  Easy to do and not a problem but a big load problem as these web part pages even with minimal master had huge footprints.  (master page and page web part zones)   I kept thinking of my experience with SharePoint 2013 and apps!  The JavaScript was loaded from within the app, why can’t we do that in 2010 and skip the master page and web part zones.     Since my first UUCP operation in UNIX to deliver and receive an email, I have always been challenged to find the ultimate email organizer. About a year ago, I switched to a very simple process of managing email and have found the ultimate in organization. On the craziest of days with 250+ emails, I keep my inbox empty. Here is how I do it; First, start with the following folders in your mailbox; Inbox    Archive    FollowUp    Hold Of course, all inbound emails will start in the Inbox. As you work throughout the day, follow these steps to keep your inbox empty; Read the email. Are you responsible for any action? If you are and can do it immediately, then do it. If you need to do it later, move the email to the “FollowUp” folder If you are not responsible for any action, move it to the archive folder. Use Outlook’s search to find them when you need them. If you will need to reference the email later in the week or for a short term (week or two), then move the email to the “Hold” folder As your day progresses, frequently review the FollowUp folder and accomplish the task *Notes: If I am waiting for someone to do something for me, I keep it in the FollowUp folder. As I review the folder, I am constantly reminded that there is something I am waiting on – and can send a simple reminder by forwarding the original email. I sometimes send myself a “todo” email and park it in the FollowUp folder I like to know how many emails are in the folders so I set the “Show total number of items” property on the folder to show the amount of emails.

The OOW hands-on lab uses Oracle Database 12c Release 1 (12.1) and uses the MATCH_RECOGNIZE clause to perform some basic pattern matching examples in SQL. This lab is broken down into four main steps: Logically partition and order the data that is used in the MATCH_RECOGNIZE clause with its PARTITION BY and ORDER BY clauses. Define patterns of rows to seek using the PATTERN clause of the MATCH_RECOGNIZE clause. These patterns use regular expressions syntax, a powerful and expressive feature, applied to the pattern variables you define. Specify the logical conditions required to map a row to a row pattern variable in the DEFINE clause. Define measures, which are expressions usable in the MEASURES clause of the SQL query.   • Can non-IT people handle a wiki?

    (I'm hoping that some of you will have encountered this issue before and can offer some insights...) My company is looking to improve their market research data management. Current data management style: "Hey Jimbo, where's that picture of our WhatZit 2.0? "yeah I remember that email about that company from that guy, gimme a few minutes to search my Outlook" "who has the newest copy of the Important Competitor's product catalogue? Mine is from '09." ... "Colleen does, and she's on maternity leave. You'll have to call her to get her workstation password..." Desired data management style: data organized neatly by topic (legal, economic, industrial, competitor) for each topic, multiple media types stored together (company product images, press releases, contact info) but still neatly sorted by type data editing histories communal access (no data silos) I was thinking about setting up a department wiki for all users to access. It seems to satisfy the four criteria above, but I'm a little concerned about how user-friendly (read: decipherable to non-technical people) it is for the more advanced features like image galleries, article formatting, and the like. Has anyone here setup a wiki for non-IT people and had it not catch on fire//become a ghost town//look like Geocities? Bonus question: can you see any obvious drawbacks to my choice of MediaWiki (or any other wiki) for solving this problem? Thank you.

Starting from version 2 of jQuery, IE6, IE7 and yes also IE8 will no longer be supported. These are now considered legacy browsers. You will need to stop any upgrades to jQuery until your SLA states that IE8 is no longer supported and remain in jQuery 1.9.Some of the reasons for not supporting IE8 and before:- Remove all the code clutter in the jQuery library with code that has to deal with IE browser compatibility issues between IE6, 7 and 8 and the newer IE versions, the latter being more compliant.- IE6 and 7 may have fallen to below 2% generally, that does not mean that that is true for your client base. In the oil and gas industry some clients are years behind and you may have 50% or more of clients remain on IE8 or older for the foreseeable future.- The difference between browser engines has become almost negligible, as it should be. Browser Homepage There are a lot of search sites that allow you to customize your homepage such as iGoogle, MSN, and Yahoo. Some people enjoy having a homepage set up as a dashboard of sorts. While others like simplicity and set it to Google or leave it blank. Not surprisingly in a small office or corporation you will see a lot of workstations set to MSN or the company SharePoint site. Unfortunately, a lot of free software tries to change you default homepage as well, like in this example when installing Windows Live Essentials.
