Refactor C++ code to use a scripting language?

Background: I have been working on a platformer game written in C++ for a few months. The game is currently written entirely in C++, though I am intrigued by the possibility of using Lua for enemy AI and possibly some other logic. However, the project was designed without Lua in mind, and I have already written working C++ code for much of the AI. I am hoping Lua can improve the extensibility of the game, but don't know if it would make sense to convert existing C++ code into Lua. The question: When, if ever, is it appropriate to take fully functional C++ code and refactor it into a scripting language like Lua? The question is intentionally a bit vague, so feel free give answers that are not relevant to the given background.

Creating a form on non-gui thread

You can't access gui controls from a thread they were not created on, at least so says the message of an exception that is sometimes raised when you do it. Recently I was puzzled by seeing that forms created on background threads work just fine. My mental model was that all actions initiated by UI input is handled on the GUI thread. Clicking on a button on such a form should raise the dreaded exception (the form and all its controls were created on a background thread not the gui thread), but it doesn't. Something is wrong with my map. (*) well to be honest I have seen one problem where opening the standard open file dialog was blocking everything

Tracking changes to individual fields - Silverlight

I have a page which has got several text boxes. These controls are bound to a model. I am using MVVM. Assume I have three text boxes, FirstName, LastName and Company. So in the model, I have three properties to bind. Now I need to track the changes happened to each field. If FirstName changes from original value, I need the text box to be colored with a different background color. Currently I am creating another property called FirstNameChanged and binding the background to this property. This will be updated when I change the FirstName. For 3 fields, this seems to be OK. But when I have more fields, the number of properties will be too much. Is there a better way to handle this?

I always get stuck here... Divs not behaving properly (alignment issues)

Hi, I don't know why, after encountering this problem dozens of times, the answer always seems different and I can't seem to work my way through the problem-solving process, but here I am again with misaligned divs. I've got 3rows encasing columns. each row is to have (at least) 3 columns (and probably some nested divs down the line, but I'm not even there yet). I'm trying to make a fluid chunk in the center ultimately, with pretty corners. However, my top row is already showing signs of misbehaving. .O Please help with my silly questions! How do I make different texts to appear in after clicking x-times?

I want to show some text within a class for each click but keep the clicky-class. Shortly, if you click 2 times, you will get a div-text "You clicked two times", you will still be able to click a third time, then you will get "You clicked three times", until the fifth time when everything will hide. Is there any simpel way to do this? jQuery FadeTo() bg on rollover, IMG animate().width height

Hello all, I have been reading StackOverflow for a while and now I have a question I cannot find an answer to. i am trying to fade a background and increase on img size on rollover. I have tried animate() and fadeTo(), however, the entire div fades. Do I need to absolute position my images over the div and not within it? img or img? Is that the only way to get items within a div to not fade along with the background? Thanks! Jason

I have never spent much time debugging multithreaded .NET apps (or others), and have quite a simple one to solve very quickly. Ideally I would imagined and would lurve to be able to intercept thread creation and use by worker objects, so that nothing unexpected happens while I'm on a breakpoint in my thread. Is that realistic? What else is there in VS 2010?

Bitmap size exceeds VM budget after second load

This is driving me crazy. I have a game which has a bitmap as the background, this is big so I scale it down and this works fine. However when I navigate to another activity and then reload the game screen it crashes on drawing the background. I am calling recycle on all the bitmaps and setting them to null on onDestroy() but this doesn't help. Any ideas and if not how can I debug the memory to see at which step its growing. I looked at getting the heap but nothing of any size is on there really. Thanks.

Navigation Dropdown Text Color doesn't work in FF and IE

Hello, I was able to get the navigation dropdown to show the letters in a different color from the background (white in this case) in Chrome browser. But when I view the same page in IE or FF, the whole background is just all green. Export Flash as Transparent MOV

Is it possible to export a flash movie with a transparent background as a .MOV. I don't mean for embedding in a website, I mean the actual .MOV (or .avi). What I'm trying to accomplish is that I have a flash animation that I want to embed in a WPF application. I don't want to use a Browser within the WPF because of all of the issues that surround the browser control (has to be topmost control, etc). So my solution was to export said animation as a movie and play it in the MediaElement control. The only problem is that I need the background to be transparent, and I can't find a way to do this. Any suggestions or alternative solutions would be most welcome.

Images not displaying if using file:///c:/

I am using jQuery and would like to display the images from my PC, rather than hosting them. I have the following: /* works fine: */ .ui-widget-header .ui-icon { background-image: url(images/ui-icons_2e83ff_256x240.png); } /* does not work: */ .ui-widget-header .ui-icon { background-image: url(file:///C:/ui-icons_2e83ff_256x240.png); } When I put file:///C:/ui-icons_2e83ff_256x240.png in a browser, it displays the actual image beautifully. Both locations are valid image locations. Could this not working be to do with the image being a sprite? Does anyone have any ideas on this one? Many thanks.

I want to change the link-style for some of my links, like this: a:hover { /* These links will be blue when hovered-over */ background-color: #3366FF; } However, I only want this to take effect in my Navigation Bar, and not for regular links. I have tried variations on this: #navbar a:hover { /* These links will be blue when hovered-over */ background-color: #3366FF; } With the intended meaning "this only applies to links with <div id="navbar">" But it didn't work. How can I set the style for only certain links, defined by the class or id of their container?

Android: Alignment of four squares

Hello There I am trying to align four equally sized squares on an Android Screen & I have now tried what feels like a million different approaches, yet none of them seem to work :(. However, every one of those four Images has a huge padding above and under it. How do I get rid of that? Or do I need to use a different Layout type alltogether? But in CHROME (4.0.249.43) I get a dark black overlay with 100% opacity. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Animate a e.Graphics.DrawLine with arrowhead

I need to "animate" an arrow. It can go in any direction (up, down, left, right and diagonals) and the arrowhead will be at the end. It needs to appear as if it is growing from orgin to the end. To make matters more complicated it has to be in a user control so it is possible to add to the controls collection in the forms and remove it to delete it from the screen, and its background is really transparent (no color.transparent) so i can't paint the background to "clear" the previous line. I have it static already (drawn from origin to end) but i can't animate it. I tried to add a timer in the user control but I fail to get a correct algorithm to calculate the intermediate ends of the line while it is growing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Stretch image to fill div, but not skew

I'm trying to make an image stretch to fit inside a div. However I want it to overflow so that the entire div is filled. The div resizes with the page. I want an effect similar to the jQuery bgstretcher plugin (http://www.ajaxblender.com/bgstretcher-2-jquery-stretch-background-plugin-updated.html) , but I cannot use that plugin because I'm already using it for the background image on the page, and it seems to not work when you try and activate multiple instances of it. So what I'm asking is for some sort of simple jQuery function that resizes an image to completely fill a div with overflow hidden, so that there are no gaps, but without skewing the image. Edit: http://jsfiddle.net/R7UCZ/ That's sort of what I'm after, but I want the image to fill the entire div without skewing. If the image goes out of the div a bit, that's fine, but I need it to resize with the div, which resizes with the page, both height and width.
