• Openfire: Closing session due to incorrect hostname

  I have a fresh install on a windows sevrer 2008 box. I can connect adium to the server from a remote machine and from the admin console/sessions I can see my session. My friend can aslo connect and I can see his session. I can send an admin message out and both of us can see it in the adium clients. We can't see each other though. I also get these logs in the warn window in the log viewer: Closing session due to incorrect hostname in stream header. Host: prjatk.com. Connection: org.jivesoftware.openfire.net.SocketConnection@1b1fd9c socket: Socket[addr=/109.109.248.82,port=56258,localport=5269] session: null prjatk.com is the server - however in the server settings on the admin screen I see the computer name as the hostname - is that the issue? If so how can I change that?

• Multi serial devices on one port

  I am developing one software for managing parking lot. System is designed to use four HID RFID devices for authorization clients on gates. Each device should be connected to server by Serial port RS232. Now I wondering is there some device or method to join all that devices on one device and after that to I have only one RS232 cable connected to server. My problem is in that RFID card readers are simple (stupid) devices and there I am not able to change anything, but Ill like to know from which specific device is coming input. What Ill want to do with that new device which need to join four readers is to add suffix or prefix to string that sent from RFID card reader. So I can identify device that is sending card number to my server. I am developing my system on Win platforms.

  All, I have a single Windows 2008 server running in Amazon's EC2 cloud. It's running a web application that is running fine and is accessible to the outside world. I need 3-5 developers to be able to work on database on the server, and was intending to accomplish this by setting up SSTP/RRAS on the server and letting them VPN in. This has been a bit of an ordeal due to the amount of server roles and messing with certificates that has been needed, but my VPN connection works now (all clients will be Windows 7). My problem is that when I use my VPN connection (from the client side) the server hangs - although not at any any consistent place, sometimes it's when I close the connection, some times when I'm making the connection). The only way that I've found to get it back is to reboot it from the Amazon management console. Thanks for any guidance. Duncan

• Is there a way to pass a custom type from C# to Oracle using System.Data.OracleClient?

  I was searching online for a solution to passing a string array to a stored procedure in Oracle. The "easy" but messy way was using a comma delimited string. I had found a sample based on which I created my own type of TABLE of VARCHAR2(200). I understood that I could use a constructor created "behind-the-scenes" by Oracle to give a list of values that would, in the PL/SQL, be treated as a TABLE I could iterate through. But when I got to the C# I saw that there is no way for me to create an OracleParameter object that would allow me to use this implicit constructor. All the samples I'm finding online for now are dealing with Oracle Data Adapter, none say anything about System.Data.OracleClient. Is there a way to achieve this?

• Logstash shipper & server on the samebox

  I'm trying to setup a central logstash configuration. However I would like to be sending my logs through syslog-ng and not third party shippers. This means that my logstash server is accepting via syslog-ng all the logs from the agents. I then need to install a logstash process that will be reading from /var/log/syslog-clients/* and grabbing all the log files that are sent to the central log server. These logs will then be sent to redis on the same VM. In theory I need to also configure a second logstash process that will read from redis and start indexing the logs and send them to elasticsearch. My question: Do I have to use two different logstash processes (shipper & server) even if I am in the same box (I want one log server instance)? Is there any way to just have one logstash configuration and have the process read from syslog-ng --- write to redis and also read from redis --- output to elastic search ? • JSP / Tomcat / Apache setup overview on Fedora Core

  Hi Folks, For someone with so much Java experience, boy do I feel clueless - thanks in advance for your help in my grocking the present (Feb, 2010) JSP environment. Here's what I am hoping to learn: Do I understand correctly that most people use Apache to "front-end" their Tomcat servers, such that Apache "talks" directly to web clients and "proxies" Tomcat servers? Do I understand correctly that Apache isn't capable of serving JSP directly but requires a server (like Tomcat)? Is there an RPM package for Fedora Core so I don't have to build one myself? Or, does Fedora Core's package installer do a good job on this one from source code? (Some do, some don't!) While I'm here asking questions; Does Tomcat come with a working example that one can start hacking on as a way to get started quickly? If not, got a good suggestion? Thanks folks, RT

• Synergy on Mac OS X 10.7

  Unfortunately, I can't seem to get Synergy to work between two Mac clients both using 10.7. One is an older 21" iMac and the other is a new 2011 Macbook Air. Here's my synergy.conf, symlinked to my home directory as ~/.synergy.conf section: screens foo: bar: super = alt alt = super end section: links foo: right = bar bar: left = foo end That is, I thought the super = alt trick was mandatory in order to have alt work on Mac but unfortunately, nothing really works. Both the Command and Control keys do NOT work on bar but work fine on foo given that the keyboard is paired with that screen. The keyboard modifier keys are the same on both computers and the making the mouse go between screens works as well. I was wondering if anyone else had any success or problems running into this issue on 10.7 and was hoping there was a possible fix.

• Using LINQ to search a byte array for all subarrays that start/stop with certain byte

  I'm dealing with a COM port application and we have a defined variable-length packet structure that I'm talking to a micro-controller with. The packet has delimiters for the start and stop bytes. The trouble is that sometimes the read buffer can contain extraneous characters. It seems like I'll always get the whole packet, just some extra chatter before/after the actual data. So I have a buffer that I append data to whenever new data is received from the COM port. What is the best way to search this buffer for any possible occurrences of my packet? For example: Say my packet delimiter is 0xFF and I have an array as such { 0x00, 0xFF, 0x02, 0xDA, 0xFF, 0x55, 0xFF, 0x04 } How can I create a function/LINQ-statment that returns all subarrays that start and end with the delimiter (almost like a sliding-correlator with wildcards)? The sample would return the following 3 arrays: {0xFF, 0x02, 0xDA, 0xFF}, {0xFF, 0x55, 0xFF}, and {0xFF, 0x02, 0xDA, 0xFF, 0x55, 0xFF}

• How to simulate a file read error in the CRT

  Using VS2008, we would like to simulate a file that has a size of X, but that has a read failure at X-Y bytes, so that we get an error indication. Anyone have an idea of how to do this on windows? Looks like there is a solution for linux, but I can't really come up with a way to do this on windows. We have multiple developers, multiple machines, and cppunit testing framework, so I want a software only design. I'm trying to simulate the actual CRT failing, so I can test the code that is dealing with the failure.

  hello, We have to do a project which is a web based workflow application. I have never used WWF. I am thinking should we use WWF with asp.net ? This application has 10 tasks with multiple options (each task may have 4 options) with a good amount of data. Just like banks have customer dealing work flow applications. I am not getting will it hard to switch to WWF ? (we have short time to deliver/ learning curve) Please advice on this. thanks

  I am trying to tune a high message traffic system running on Solaris. The architecture is a large number (600) of clients which connect via TCP to a big Solaris server and then send/receive relatively small messages (.5 to 1K payload) at high rates. The goal is to minimize the latency of each message processed. I suspect that the TCP stack of the server is getting overwhelmed by all the traffic. What are some commands/metrics that I can use to confirm this, and in case this is true, what is the best way to alleviate this bottleneck?

I'm new in Java so please forgive any obscene errors that I may make :) I'm developing a program in Java that among other things it should also handle clients that will connect to a server. The server has 3 threads running, and I have created them in the following way : DaemonForUI du; DaemonForPort da; DaemonForCheck dc; da = new DaemonForPort(3); dc = new DaemonForCheck(5); du = new DaemonForUI(7); Thread t_port = new Thread(da); Thread t_check = new Thread(dc); Thread t_ui = new Thread(du); t_port.setName("v1.9--PORTd"); t_check.setName("v1.9-CHECKd"); t_ui.setName("v1.9----UId"); t_port.start(); t_check.start(); t_ui.start(); Each thread handles a different aspect of the complete program. The thread t_ui is responsible to accept asynchronous incoming connections from clients, process the sent data and send other data back to the client. When I remove all the commands from the previous piece of code that has to with the t_ui thread, everything runs ok which in my case means that the other threads are printing their debug messages. If I set the t_ui thread to run too, then the whole program blocks at the "accept" of the t_ui thread. • Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack "The converter failed to open the file" error & "This is a pre-release version"

  What issues have people encountered with older OS's (2000, XP) and olders versions of Microsoft Office (2000, XP, 2003) with the 'Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack'? I have a couple of Windows 2000 client PC's encountering different errors when attempting to open .docx or .xlsx documents, some with Office XP and the others with Office 2003. Reading through forums it appears that the different versions of the compatibility pack, not all were compatible with Windows 2000 (versions 3 & 4 are not). There are also Service Packs for the Compatibility Pack. With these Windows 2000 clients, it seems i need the Compatibility Pack version 2, then to install the Service Packs, yet i'm unable to find a link for version 2 of it. First error message: "This is a pre-release version of the Compatibilty Pack and can open pre-release Office 2007 files only." Is solved below. Second error message: "The converter failed to open the file." My troubleshooting is still on-going.

• Aironet 1130AG and WPA (not WPA2)

  Is it possible to enable this WAP to do WPA1? I've played with all sort of settings, but no matter what I set it to, it does WPA2. Even if I choose TKIP as the cipher. I need WPA for compatibility reasons. I'm running 12.3(7)JA1 firmware. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I'm trying to get this company away from WEP, but WPA2 offers too many problems with their visitors (XP SP2 clients need to install patch, etc). I'll probably add a radius while I'm at it, but would love to get WPA + AES going. Or at least WPA + TKIP.

• How to automatically restart RRAS service after OpenVPN

  I have OpenVPN set up on a Windows Server 2003 box using a routed configuration. This allows users to connect and access the work LAN subnet. There are remote hosts/services however that are only accessible when used via the work network. To enable access these, I push routes out to the clients to make sure traffic to these destinations goes across the VPN, and NAT the traffic using RRAS. This all works, except: if I restart the OpenVPN service, network traffic stops working until I restart the RRAS service as well. Is there a good way for me to make the RRAS service start/restart after OpenVPN? Are service dependencies the way to go? Obviously I could write a batch file to do this, but I'd like to make the process as bullet-proof and obvious as I can so it doesn't cause problems for other admins.

• Simple NNTP clent for Ubuntu

  I need to download a particular NNTP group. I do not need to setup any crons, put group contents in /opt and other stuff. Just run <fetch-nntp> <server> <group-name> <output-dir> and be done with it without putting a lot of garbage in the system. If that <fetch-nntp> would not fetch the same messages on the second run — fine. But I can live without it. All NNTP clients that I've looked at are trying to be a NNTP server as well. Is there something simpler that is suitable for my needs?

• SQL Server 2008 lincensing question relating to web servers

  We purchased SQL Server 2008 Standard licences last year under the server + device CAL licencing model. Since our server has 2 physical CPUs and only 46 clients, this option was by far the cheapest. Now we'd like to be able to query a small number of stored procedures from our Windows Server 2003 Web Edition server, which is in a seperate zone on our firewall. I think SQL Server 2008 Web Edition could be an option to us, but is it possible to replicate/mirror stored procedures and tables to such a server and would we be breaking any rules by doing so? Is this a form of multiplexing? Also, would replication/mirroring work both ways, if we were to want to write back data from the web server?

• Generate fixed length hash in python for url parameter

  I am working in python on appengine. I am trying to create what is equivalent to the "v" value in the youtube url's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhMN0wlITLk) for retrieving specific entities. The datastore auto generates a key but it is way too long (34 digits). I have experimented with hashlib to build my own, but again I get a long string. I would like to keep it to under 11 digits (I am not dealing with a huge number of entities) and letters and numbers are acceptable. It seems like there should be a pretty standard solution. I am probably just missing it.

• How to safely backup MySQL using VSS-based backup solutions

  One of my clients is running MySQL on a Windows Server 2008 system. Their regular backups are performed using StorageCraft's ShadowCopy, which uses the VSS service to perform backups of open files. Some investigation indicates that MySQL is not entirely VSS-aware, and that the tables need to be locked prior to the shadow operation, then unlocked afterwards. There is a post at http://forum.storagecraft.com/Community/forums/p/548/2702.aspx which indicates the steps that need to be performed, however the user had some difficulty in performing them and no follow up solution was ever posted. Specifically, they succeeded in writing a batch file to lock the database, however once the batch file returns from MySQL it drops the connection and thus relinquishes the lock. I'm looking for a method that I can send the MySQL command FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK, then perform the backup, then send UNLOCK TABLES when the backup is complete. Alternatively, I can exclude the MySQL data storage folder from backup, and schedule a mysqldump backup into a folder that will then be backed up by VSS. Can I have some recommendations please?

Can I ask if anyone has example codes of the search scripts and of a translator program or web service I could use. I use C# if that helps. The secion dealing with: MessageBox(Localize("Hello"), Localize("Title"), MB_OK); RegOpenKey(NoLocalize("\\SOFTWARE\\RegKey"), ...); I am trying to follow those ideas.   We're looking for a good office jukebox solution where staff can select songs via a web interface to be played over the central set of speakers. Must haves: Web Interface RSS / easy to scrap display of currently playing songs Ability to play mp3s and manage an ordered playlist. Good cataloguing of media. Multiple OSs supported as clients - Windows, Mac, Fedora Linux (will probably be accomplished by virtue of a web interface). We have tried XBMC which worked well as a proof of concept however the web interface is just too immature and has too many bugs for a reliable multi-user solution. I believe the same will be true of boxee. Nice to have: Ability to play music videos onto a monitor Ability to listen to radio streams specifically Shoutcast and the BBC. Ability to run on Linux is a nice to have but windows solutions which worked well would certainly be considered. I am aware of question 61404 and don't believe this to be a duplicate due to the specific requirements.

• SRSS Client Print Module must be downloaded every use

  I am currently having an issue with SQL Server Reporting Services. Everytime a user clicks the print button for the report, the user must install the ActiveX client print module. The issue is that our clients are not admins on their computers. So therefore they can not install the module. I have gotten around this roughly by adding the SQL address to trust sites, setting "Download signed Active Controls" to enable, and then giving the users permission to write to "C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files". However, this is fix is not easy to distrubute to our user base. I am using SQL Server 2008 SP3 CU3 running on Server 2008 R2. I believe the browser thinks the version is newer than what is on the server. I have tried downloading the print module CAB file from the SQL server and installing manually. That did not work either.
