  • Can I use Google AdSense within a banner rotator?

    - by Derfder
I have 3 rotating banners on one 728x90 position on my website, so every time a page is loaded another banner is shown. One of these is AdSense. Is it legal, I mean is this strictly prohibited or not? Because, the code is basically stored in db table in my CMS module in Wordpress, so I guess it is OK. But I am asking to be sure. What is your personal experience? Does Google penalize sites with banner rotators?

    - by Jason Digg
Possible Duplicate: Will there be data loss for upgrade? Can we upgrade a previous version of ubuntu to the latest version without losing data ? (For example, will I be able to upgrade the 10.10 version to 11.04, which is due to be released in April of 2011?) I mean, there is a new version coming out every 6 months, so it will be convenient if we are able to upgrade without losing on the data .

  • How can I implement a matchmaker?

    - by csiz
I'm making a multiplayer game, where players are separated in to rooms that would ideally have about 20 players. So I need a few pointers on an algorithm to distribute the players in to these rooms. A few more constraints: When a players gets in to a room, he should stay there until he decides to exit (the room itself changes levels) There may be more room servers, every server should create more rooms until near full capacity There's a central server that manages all the room servers, and directs the players towards their room

  • What important aspects of Java should I know coming from Python?

    - by Macuser
So, I've been browsing the job market, and it seems almost every programmer position requires either knowledge in the .NET, C#, or Java, and I'm looking to pick up Java, as I am not interesting very much with programming for Windows environments. So, what syntax differences should I look out for (except different class names), and any practices that I should avoid using in Java which is normally used in Python?

It seems every couple weeks I'm learning about a new service that can be used by developers to either A) get people involved, or B) make life easier for developers. Is there a list of all these services somewhere? Here are a few of them that I have recently found out about. https://errors.ubuntu.com/ http://harvest.ubuntu.com/ http://status.ubuntu.com/ :Edit: Found another. Although not strictly developer related, it's noteworthy https://apps.ubuntu.com

  • Since Google reduces the value of links alongside nofollow links, what is an alternative?

    - by SharkTheDark
Since 2009, Google counts nofollow links also as outgoing links, and thus reduces the value of the other links. What are some alternatives to stop Google counting outside links from my page? If I make links appear on my page source like this: <span hrefs="http://link" rel="nofollow" link="true">Link Name</span> and then in JavaScript replace span with a tag and replace hrefs with href for every span tag that has link="true". Will this help?

  • Ranking High in the Search Engines Using Back Links

If I were to say that there was one thing that out ranks every thing else in importance when it comes to search engine optimization, I'd bet that most people would not believe me. There is so much information and advice available on line from sources such as, forums and blogs etc, that in my belief focus on the less important aspects of seo, but in my five years experience as an internet marketer, I can say with certainty that the most significant factor is: Links.

  • Game programming and quantity of timers

    - by andresjb
I've made a simple 2D game engine using C# and DirectX and it's fully functional for the demo I made to test it. I have a Timer object that uses QueryPerformanceCounter and I don't know what's the better choice: use only one timer in the game loop to update everything in the game, or an independent timer in every object that needs one. My worry is that when I try to implement threads, what will happen with timers? What happens with the sync?

  • How to mount NTFS drive at startup

    - by user3403
I'm not even sure if this is the right question, but basically I have a partition with Windows 7 on it (named Acer in my Ubuntu places menu) that I have to click on every time I start the computer in order for my music to come up in Rhythmbox, since my music is stored on the windows drive. What I want to do is have the NTFS drive "Acer" mount automatically when I start the computer, so my music is there automatically.
