  • Can I include the path and query string in an IIS "Error Pages" redirect?

    I'm setting up a custom 403.4 handler so that non-SSL requests to my site are redirected to a different URL - and what I'd like to do is to include the script path and query string in the redirect, so that a user who requests http://www.site.com/foo?bar=1 will be redirected to https://www.site.com/foo?bar=1 I know something similar is possible when configuring a top-level site redirect, using the $S, $Q, %v tokens referred to in this IIS reference page - but this syntax doesn't seem to work when configuring a custom error redirect.

  • Sharing www folder breaks IIS sites

    I would like to share my www folder on my local machine with others in my office but when I do this and try navigate back to my localhost sites, I get the error HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized. Now I have done a search already and found this http://forums.iis.net/t/1048841.aspx but it's a bit too technical for my skill level and was hoping someone here might be able to give me an easier way to understand this?

  • Maintain share permissions migrating from Windows 2003 to Samba 3.5 or 4

    The title says it all. I'm interested in replacing a Windows file server with a Linux Samba file server, but the caveat is that share/folder permissions must be preserved. We'd be using the new active directory authentication in Samba, so the two servers would at least be in the same domain to make things a little simpler, and all the users/groups are domain-level users/groups. Does anyone know if this is possible?

  • Is there a way to set the Powerpoint Slide Sorter Zoom above 100%?

    In the PowerPoint slider sorter view, is there a way to set the zoom level larger than 100%? On PowerPoint for Mac this slider goes to much higher values, essentially allowing zoom all the way in to a single slide, but on the Windows version (depending on screen resolution and slide dimensions) the maximum zoom is often several slides wide. Evidently it's possible to achieve a similar affect by changing the page size, but is there some sort of preferences hack that will change the maximum value of this slider?

  • Install Windows 8 without a Product Key

    Windows 8 setup asks for the product key at the beginning of the setup without letting you install it. I got the Windows 8 ISO from MSDN but I didn't get enough keys to install it on all my 7 computers. Also, my MSDN subscription level doesn't allow me to get the VL product key to Windows 8 Enterprise. Is there any way I can install Windows 8 for a limited time period like we used to do for Windows 7 ?

  • Mac OS X set terminal name that persists after SSHing somewhere else

    I try advice like this that recommends adding the following to your .profile: function tabname { printf "\e]1;$1\a" } So you can type tabname brokenbox to name your tab. The problem is as soon as I also type ssh [email protected] and log in, it wipes the tab name. I want a tab name that's as persistent as the tab, not the level of session I happen to be in. Is this possible? I don't even know what layer that data lives in.

  • Naming PCs on a mixed hosts home network.

    I have a home network comprising an Apple iMacs and a Windows 7 PCs - using the internet connection sharing feature on the Windows 7 PC to share the internet connection with the iMac. I have configured the hostnames on each pc so, running hostname on the Windows 7 box says "windows7" and on the iMac says "apple", but, if I try and "ping apple" from Windows 7 or "ping Windows7" from the iMac they can't resolve. what do I need to do to get this 'simple' level on connectivity working?

  • Use Dropbox as Offsite Enterprise Backup

    For my small company, I'm using Tomahawk Backup as the enterprise offshore solution, as it covers files, databases and Exchange (brick level). The problem is the price... it costs more than 10x the price of Dropbox (and others) for the same space (120GB), and doesn't have de-duplication. So I'm wondering: assuming there is no problem with backing up files only (ie copying the exchange store file and the db files to the Dropbox folder), would Dropbox be suitable as the offsite backup solution?   • Windows 7 showing subfiles when saving files from internet?

    Within the last week, whenever I go to save a file from the internet when I save to "Documents" it doesn't show just what is in My Documents at the higher level, it shows all the contents of every sub-folder. I haven't changed any settings- how can I get this back to normal (so that files of sub-folders are not shown when saving)? I tried with both Chrome and IE so it's not the browser doing it. The problem seems to only happen with My Documents, no other folders like Downloads etc.

  • Set default page to virtual directory in IIS 6

    I have two applications, one of which is a store and is located under the virtual directory "store", while the main "application" is the parent website/application. However, when visiting the the top-level website address, I would like to start people in /store/default.aspx (technically "/store/home") but this is not allowed in the entry box in IIS. Currently I am doing the redirect manually in code, but was wondering if there was a way to do this in IIS or something. Thanks for any help.

  • When RAID 10 is SLOWER than RAID 1, why?

    We have a Dell 2950 with PERC and 14 external SAS 15K 73GB drives. An Oracle database job takes 3 hours to run with the drives set as hardware RAID 10 (striped across 7 mirrored pairs). The same job with the drives in RAID 1 takes only 1 hour. OS is Win 2008 R2 I think. Before we change the RAID level (with considerable downtime) on the production box, does anyone know why we're seeing this odd result, and if there's a better way to fix it?

Edit: Got some great replies. Let me clarify the question: Of course, at the lowest level, you want to plug your end nodes into a switch, not a router (as demonstrated by AlReece). I'm referring to switches which are used to bridge traffic between segments - that is, switches connected to other switches.

  • HP ProLiant DL380 G3 Running Windows Server 2000 has crashed between 6-7:30am for the past 5 days

    I have a HP ProLiant DL380 G3 running Windows Server 2000 that has been crashing everyday between 6-730am. This started when I changed out a failing hard drive 6 days ago. I have looked at the scheduled tasks which does not have anything pertaining to this issue. Below are the only things I see in the system log and some of the dump files. Can this be a hardware issue if this happens at a certain time frame everyday? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks The previous system shutdown at 6:07:55 AM on 2/7/2012 was unexpected.   • Secure Standalone Server Plus Firewall Unit [closed]

    We need to send a 2U server, 1U UPS and 1U firewall to a third-party. The thing is, it needs to be a secured case (locked unit) that has proper airflow and we can have power and networking cables coming out of the back. We've googled far and wide and have only been able to find 'hard case' units that offer some level of security but they are extremely bulky and require freight delivery.
