• How to set up django-admin.py on windows vista?

  I manage to install Django after some struggles by using setup.py install on Windows Vista Now I tried to use django-admin.py but it is not working. According to this document, http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/django-admin/ The django-admin.py script should be on your system path if you installed Django via its setup.py utility. If it’s not on your path, ... For Windows users, who do not have symlinking functionality available, you can copy django-admin.py to a location on your existing path or edit the PATH settings (under Settings - Control Panel - System - Advanced - Environment...) to point to its installed location. I checked ComputerpropertiesEnvironment Variables, but path to django-admin.py is not in anywhere. So I added C:\Python25\Lib\site-packages\django\bin which is the folder of django-admin.py in User variables for shin Variable PATH, Value C:\Program Files\Google\google_appengine\;C:\Python25\Lib\site-packages\django\bin\ Am I supposed to add to System variables?? But it still does not work. Could anyone tell me how to add the Path in Environment Variables please? Thanks in advance.

• Is there a safe / standard way to manage unstructured memory in C++?

  I'm building a toy VM that requires a block of memory for storing and accessing data elements of different types and of different sizes. I've done this by writing a wrapper class around a uint8_t[] data block of the needed size. That class has some template methods to write / read typed data elements to / from arbitrary locations in the memory block, both of which check to make certain the bounds aren't violated. These methods use memmove in what I hope is a more or less safe manner. That said, while I am willing to press on in this direction, I've got to believe that other with more expertise have been here before and might be willing to share their wisdom. In particular: 1) Is there a class in one of the C++ standards (past, present, future) that has been defined to perform a function similar to what I have outlined above? 2) If not, is there a (preferably free as in beer) library out there that does? 3) Short of that, besides bounds checking and the inevitable issue of writing one type to a memory location and reading a different from that location, are there other issues I should be aware of? • Weird camera Intent behavior

  Hi all. I'm invoking the MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE intent with the MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT extra so that it does save the image to that file. On the onActivityResult I can check that the image is being saved in the intended file, which is correct. The weird thing is that anyhow, the image is also saved in a file named something like "/sdcard/Pictures/Camera/1298041488657.jpg" (epoch time in which the image was taken). I've checked the Camera app source (froyo-release branch) and I'm almost sure that the code path is correct and wouldn't have to save the image, but I'm a noob and I'm not completly sure. When I found this out, I found about 20 image files from my tests that I didn't know were on my sdcard :) I'm getting this behavior both with my Nexus One with Froyo and my Huawei U8110 with Eclair. • Filter large amounts of data from a HTML table w/ jQuery

  I work for a transit agency and I have large amounts of data (mostly times), and I need a way to filter the data using two textboxes (To and From). I found jQuery quick search, but it seems to only work with one textbox. If anyone has any ideas via jQuery or some other client side library, that would be fantastic.   Greetings, I'm new to TCL scripting, and I have a very very basic xml file which I need to import information from into tcl. • Getting zeros between data while reading a binary file in C

  I have a binary data which I am reading into an array of long integers using a C programme. hexdump of the binary data shows, that after first few data points , it starts again at a location 20000 hexa adresses away. hexdump output is as shown below. 0000000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 * 0020000 0000 0000 0053 0000 0064 0000 006b 0000 0020010 0066 0000 0068 0000 0066 0000 005d 0000 0020020 0087 0000 0059 0000 0062 0000 0066 0000 ........ and so on... But when I read it into an array 'data' of long integers. by the typical fread command fread(data,sizeof(*data),filelength/sizeof(*data),fd); It is filling up with all zeros in my data array till it reaches the 20000 location. After that it reads in data correctly. Why is it reading regions where my file is not there? Or how will I make it read only my file, not anything inbetween which are not in file? I know it looks like a trivial problem, but I cannot figure it out even after googling one night.. Can anyone suggest me where I am doing it wrong? Other Info : I am working on a gnu/linux machine. (slax-atma distro to be specific) My C compiler is gcc.

Then, I'm using a couple of joins to combine the queries: SELECT qSumPermDeployments.Date, qSumPermDeployments.["Total Permanent"] AS "Permanent" qSumTempDeployments.["Total Temp"] AS "Temp" qSumSupportDeployments.["Total Support"] AS Support FROM (qSumPermDeployments LEFT JOIN qSumTempDeployments ON qSumPermDeployments.Date = qSumTempDeployments.Date) LEFT JOIN qSumSupportDeployments ON qSumPermDeployments.Date = qSumSupportDeployments.Date; Note that I'm currently constructing that final query under the assumption that a location will only have temp or support employees if they also have permanent employees. Given all of the data I currently have, that assumption holds up, but ideally I'd like to move away from that assumption. So finally, my question. Is there a way to simplify this down to a single query or is it best to separate it out into multiple queries - if for no other reason that readability.

• Double Slash at end of URL when going to HTTPS?

  My site currently uses http and https sections based on the data being collected on the site (form data uses https). On my index page, I have the PHP code at the top: <?php session_start(); ob_start(); if( $_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'] == 443) { header('Location:http://'.$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].dirname($_SERVER['PHP_SELF'])); die(); } ?> However, the page will not load and I get a 404 error. Similarly, when i visit the sections with https security using the head code: <?php session_start(); ob_start(); if( $_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'] == 80) { header('Location:https://'.$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].dirname($_SERVER['PHP_SELF']).'/'.basename($_SERVER['PHP_SELF'])); die(); } ?> The site does not respond AND for some reason creates a double slash when switching from http to https. Example: http://www.abc.com/, then clicking button which should route to enroll.php shows http://www.abc.com//enroll.php why the need for the double slash and can anybody help with the 404 errors?

• Make an element visible to the user but invisible to events

  I'm not quite sure how to describe what I'm looking to do, but I'll do my best. At the moment I have a parent <div>, with absolutely positioned child <div>s within it, and I'm tracking the mouse pointer location coordinates relative to the element your mouse is over. At the moment, when I mouse over my child <div>s, I get the mouse location relative to them, but I want the coordinates to be relative the the parent <div> even when mousing over the child elements. So I basically want the child elements to be visible, but transparent to the mousemove, so I want the mousemove to go straight through to the parent element. How would I do this? Do I maybe need to somehow make the parent <div> be in the forground but still have the child <div>s show through? or make a transparent <div> overlay just to get the mouse coordinates? • How do I flatten an associative array into an array with only values in PHP?

  I have an array that has keys and values. For eg: Array ( [name] => aalaap [age] => 29 [location] => mumbai ) I want to convert the keys from this into values, but I want the values to apear right after the keys. For eg: Array ( [0] => name [1] => aalaap [2] => age [3] => 29 [4] => location [5] => mumbai ) I can easily write an iteration function that will do this... for eg: array_flatten($arr) { foreach ($arr as $arrkey => $arrval) { $arr_new[] = $arrkey; $arr_new[] = $arrval; } return $arr_new; } ...but I'm trying to find out if there's any way this can be accomplished using array_combine, array_keys, array_values and/or array_merge, preferably in one, so i don't need to use a custom function. Is there?

• Stop scrolling to ID when opening jQuery Modal via URL

  I need to be able to open an ID'd jQuery UI Modal on a page when that modal's ID is passed in the page's URL. For example: http://mysite.com/visit.html#directions #directions is an ID'd DIV at the very bottom of the page, right before the closing BODY element. It's instantiated as a jQuery UI dialog on page load, then I'm running a function to check the current URL for the modal's ID. If the URL contains the modal's ID, the modal is opened. Here's what my auto-open function looks like: function autoOpenModal() { if ( document.location.href.indexOf('#') ) { var uriParts = document.location.href.split('#'); var hashID = '#' + uriParts[1]; if ( $(hashID) && $(hashID).hasClass('dialog')) { $(hashID).dialog('open'); } } } The problem I'm having is that the browser is automatically scrolling down to the ID at the very bottom of the page before the modal is opened. So when the user closes the modal they're at the bottom of the page (which seems "broken" to me). Can anyone tell me how I stop the browser from auto-scrolling down to the ID please? I've had a look at event.preventDefault() but without success; I'm not sure where or how to use it in the event chain.

• Where should I store shared resources between LocalSystem and regular user with UAC?

  My application consists of two parts: A Windows Service running under the LocalSystem account and a client process running under the currently logged in regular user. I need to deploy the application across Windows versions from XP up to Win7. The client will retrieve files from the web and collect user data from the user. The service will construct files and data of it's own which the client needs to read. I'm trying to figure out the best place (registry or filesystem, or mix) to store all this. One file the client or service needs to be able to retrieve from the net is an update_patch executable which needs to run whenever an upgrade is available. I need to be sure the initial installer SETUP.EXE, and also the update_patch can figure out this ideal location and set a RegKey to be read later by both client and server telling them the magic location (The SETUP.EXE will run with elevated privileges since it needs to install the service) On my Win7 test system the service %APPDATA% points to: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Roaming and the %APPDATA% of the client points to: C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming Interestingly Google Chrome stores everything (App and Data) in C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome Chrome runs pretty much in exactly the way I want my suite to run (able to silently update itself in the background) What I'm trying to avoid is nasty popups warning the user that the app wants to modify the system, and I want to avoid problems when VirtualStore doesn't exist because the user is running XP/2000/2003 or has UAC turned off. My target audience are non-tech-savvy general Windows users.

  We have been using SVN for the past year now and when we migrated to an online server we started getting this error: Commit: Commit failed (details follow): File or directory 'x.php' is out of date; try updating resource out of date; try updating CHECKOUT of '/!svn/ver/491/x.php': 409 Conflict (http://svn.example.com) We are currently using SmartSVN 6.5 and we have also tested with RapidSVN & Syncro (but we can't use tortoise as we have a lot of Ubunutu users) at the begining I though this How do you fix an SVN 409 Conflict Error would help, but it didn't we are still facing the same error and it's even more absurd now. the main problem is that after you get the error, you can't shake it of. Updating doesn't solve, reverting doesn't solve. You are just stuck with the error. First, I have a site in nginx which only rewrites urls and redircts them to a new domain, and this site has exactly no file in its root directory. I put some rewrite rules (just string rules, no querystring) in my nginx.conf list 1 rewrite ^/index_([0-9]+)(.*)$ /forum-$1-1.html last; rewrite ^/dispbbs_([0-9]+)_([0-9]+)\.html$ /thread-$2-1-1.html last; Those rules work perfect till now. • How to maintain a persistant network-connection between two applications over a network?

  I was recently approached by my management with an interesting problem - where I am pretty sure I am telling my bosses the correct information but I really want to make sure I am telling them the correct stuff. I am being asked to develop some software that has this function: An application at one location is constantly processing real-time data every second and only generates data if the underlying data has changed in any way. On the event that the data has changed send the results to another box over a network Maintains a persistent connection between the both machines, altering the remote box if for some reason the network connection went down From what I understand, I imagine that I need to do some reading on doing some sort of TCP/IP socket-level stuff. That way if the connection is dropped the remote location will be aware that the data it has received may be stale. However management seems to be very convinced that this can be accomplished using SOAP. I was under the impression that SOAP is more or less a way for a client to initiate a procedure from a server and get some results via the HTTP protocol. Am I wrong in assuming this? I haven't been able to find much information on how SOAP might be able to solve a problem like this. I feel like a lot of people around my office are using SOAP as a buzzword and that has generated a bit of confusion over what SOAP actually is - and is capable of. Any thoughts on how to accomplish this task would be appreciated!

• Random-access archive for Unix use

  I'm looking for a good format for archiving entire file-systems of old Linux computers. TAR.GZ The tar.gz format is great for archiving files with UNIX-style attributes, but since the compression is applied across the entire archive, the design precludes random-access. Instead, if you want to access a file at the end of the archive, you have to start at the beginning and decompress the whole file (which could be several hundred GB) up to the point where you find the entry you're looking for. ZIP Conversely, one selling point of the ZIP format is that it stores an index of the archive: filenames are stored separately with pointers to the location within the archive were to find the data. If I want to extract a file at the end, I look up the position of that file by name, seek to the location, and extract the data. However, it doesn't store file attributes such as ownership, permissions, symbolic links, etc. Other options? I've tried using squashfs, but it's not really designed for this purpose. The file format is not consistent between versions, and building the archive takes a lot of time and space. What other options might suit this purpose better?
