• Creating TCP network errors for unit testing

  I'd like to create various network errors during testing. I'm using the Berkely sockets API directly in C++ on Linux. I'm running a mock server in another thread from within Boost.Test which listens on localhost. For instance, I'd like to create a timeout during connect. So far I've tried not calling accept in my mock server and setting the backlog to 1, then making multiple connections, but all seem to successfully connect. I would think that if there wasn't room in the backlog queue I would at least get a connection refused error if not a timeout. I'd like to do this all programatically if possible, but I'd consider using something external like IPchains to intentionally drop certain packets to certain ports during testing, but I'd need to automate creating and removing rules so I could do it from within my Boost.Test unit tests. I suppose I could mock the various system calls involved, but I'd rather go through a real TCP stack if possible. Ideas?

• Solving the problem of finding parts which work well with each other

  Hi, I have a database of items. They are for cars and similar parts (eg cam/pistons) work better than others in different combinations (eg one product will work well with another, while another combination of 2 parts may not). There are so many possible permutations, what solutions apply to this problem? So far, I feel that these are possible approaches (Where I have question marks, something tells me these are solutions but I am not 100% confident they are). Neural networks (?) Collection-based approach (selection of parts in a collection for cam, and likewise for pistons in another collection, all work well with each other) Business rules engine (?) • jeditable accidentally triggering on Draggable on nested items

  I'm using jquery-ui's draggable for drag-and-drop, and jeditable for inline editing. When I drag and drop an element that's also editable, right after it's dropped jeditable kicks in and pops into 'edit mode'. How can I disable this behavior? Edit - the problem happens because of netsting - see this example. I also added draggable to the mix to make the example more realistic (the actual real problem is in this site that I'm working on) Note - even though this question has an accepted answer because of the bounty rules, the problem is still not resolved for me.

  Can semantic errors be detected by the compiler or not? If not when do the errors get detected? As far as I know semantic errors are those errors which result from the expressions involving operators with incorrect number/type of operands. For example: n3=n1*n2;//n1 is integer, n2 is a string, n3 is an integer The above statement is semantically incorrect. But while reading C Primer Plus by Stephen Prata I found the following statement The compiler does not detect semantic errors, because they don't violate C rules. The compiler has no way of divining your true intentions. That leaves it to you to find these kinds of errors. One way is to compare what a program does to what you expected it to do. If not the compiler, who detects those errors? Am I missing something?

  I want the following rules but I don't seem to get the right setup. <domain>/training-courses/ both with or without the slash at the end it should go to: <domain>/?index.php?page=training-courses and for each variable extra after this I want it to behave like this: <domain>/training-courses/success/another-value/and-yet-another/ to <domain>/?index.php?page=training-courses&val1=success&val2=another-value&val3=and-yet-another-value If it's not possible to have the option for unlimited leading variables, i'd like to have at least 2 variables after the page variable Is this possible? and how do I get this sorted out? The following file name is working fine: /storage/sdcard0/myapp/transfer/Net worth over time _ Forecast (2012-11-19 11070).pdf I tried the following troubleshooting: It's not the overall length of the file name, as if I shorten the base name, the same behavior remains It's not GMail, uploading the file to Google Drive fails similarly 16 characters inside the parentheses work, but not 17 It's not the space character inside the parentheses that causes the issue, as I replaced it with a dash and it's the same problem. Anybody has any ideas on what's going on here?

• Does MySQL allow two primary keys on one table?

  CREATE TABLE Orders -> ( -> ID SMALLINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL, -> ModelID SMALLINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL, -> Descrip VARCHAR(40), -> PRIMARY KEY (ID, ModelID) -> ); Basically, this appears to me to be creating two primary key on one table. Is that correct? I thought that we could create a number of unique keys in one table, but only one primary key. How is it that my system is allowing the creation of multiple primary keys? Please advise: what are the rules governing this?

I was wondering whether you have any tips on uploading CI to a free web host , my database, free webhosting and basic security tips. Can I just upload the entire CI folder? Or do I have to upload individual files (God no!)? What are my options? What about my MySQL database - do I just upload my mysqldump to the webhost? Also, can you recommend a good free webhost. I was thinking about 000webhost. Any basic tips on security would also be appreciated (I've implemented many of the form_validation rules like xss_clean for starters) Any other suggestions will be more than welcome. Thanks!

• Which options do I have for Java process communication?

  We have a place in a code of such form: void processParam(Object param) { wrapperForComplexNativeObject result = jniCallWhichMayCrash(param); processResult(result); } processParam - method which is called with many different arguments. jniCallWhichMayCrash - a native method which is intended to do some complex processing of it's parameter and to create some complex object. It can crash in some cases. wrapperForComplexNativeObject - wrapper type generated by SWIG processResult - a method written in pure Java which processes it's parameter by creation of several kinds (by the kinds I'm not meaning classes, maybe some like hierarchies) of objects: 1 - Some non-unique objects which are referencing each other (from the same hierarchy), these objects can have duplicates created from the invocations of processParam() method with different parameter values. Since it's costly to keep all the duplicates it's necessary to cache them. 2 - Some unique objects which are referencing each other (from the same hierarchy) and some of the objects of 1st kind. After processParam is executed for each of the arguments from some set the data created in processResult will be processed together. The problem is in fact that jniCallWhichMayCrash method may crash the entire JVM and this will be very bad. The reason of crash may be such that it can happen for one argument value and not for the other. We've decided that it's better to ignore crashes inside of JVM and just skip some chunks of data when such crashes occur. In order to do this we should run processParam function inside of separate process and pass the result somehow (HOW? HOW?! This is a question) to the main process and in case of any crashes we will only lose some part of data (It's ok) without lose of everything else. So for now the main problem is implementation of transport between different processes. Which options do I have? I can think about serialization and transmitting of binary data by the streams, but serialization may be not very fast due to object complexity. Maybe I have some other options of implementing this?

• Squid+iptables: how do i allow https to pass-through and bypassing Squid?

  Hello, Basically started with Squid and iptables today (google is your friend). This stuff is going to be the death of me. I have Squid3 setup on Ubuntu 9.04 server as Transparent Proxy. It works sweetly when i use the proxy-box as my default gateway etc. The iptable rules for this setup was part of the tutorial. :P I can unfortunately not access https sites (such as Gmail or anything on port 443 basically). This is because Squid dont like what it cannot cache, which in this case is the https traffic. I would like to add an iptable rule so that i can basically access https sites and use Skype. Basically allow these types of traffic to pass through without going through Squid proxy? (bypassing it so to speak) Would anyone perhaps know how to do this or have a link to any sources that would assist me in figuring it out? Thank you.

• Filter Empty Directories in Package Explorer View

  Is there a way in eclipse to filter/hide empty directory trees in the package explorer view? This is different than filtering directories like '.svn' or maven's target, or filtering empty packages. It's more trying to clean up empty directories trees that show up as a result of filter rules. Context- We have a generic project in our workspace that uses filters to ignore non text based files(mp3s, jpgs, etc). It allows us to quickly edit our files in eclipse. The problem is because of the filters there are a lot of empty folders present. If eclipse can ignore any empty folders due to filters it would make the project cleaner.

• Where should I put validation code?

  I'm creating interfaces and abstract classes that represent a messaging framework for short text-based messages like SMS, email, twitter, xml, etc.. and I was wondering where I should put the message validation code. The thing is that I am only writing the superclasses and interfaces, so I'm not putting the actual implementation in, I'll just put the hooks in that allow others to validate the content of the messages. The way I see it, I could do it several ways: in the abstract superclass "Message", have an abstract method 'isValid'. A variation on this would be to have isValid be called when the Message constructor is called, throwing a MalformedMessageException if the message is formatted incorrectly. in the transport layer, immediately before sending, validate the message. I would have a send(Message) method that calls an isValid(Message) method immediately before it sends. have a singleton message validator with a static method isValid(Message) that is called at some point. I'm sure there are other options that I'm missing. Currently, I'm leaning towards the first one, but it doesn't feel right to me to have validation code in what should be a domain object.

• Jquery Validation Central Message Many Errors

I have managed to get a centeral message "Please Recheck the form", and to have the input focus on the first error. To get this, I had to override the default message of each of the errors. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how I can have it display the error message associated with the first error input instead of a general error message. • CouchDB Lucene How to URL Encode Query containing Minus (-)

  I'd like to query text containing a minus (-) Sign, e.g. foo-bar with a couchdb lucene fulltext query. Following lucene rules I'd have to escape the minus, resulting in foo\-bar Last I'd have to urlencode the backslash resulting in foo%5C-bar So the complete url would be: http://127.0.0.1:5984/_fti/local/db/_design/foo/by_subject?q=foo%5C-bar Neither works. The result is always split in two phrases "q":"default:foo default:bar" Leading to documents containing only foo or bar being found also. Thanks for your help!

• What environment variables available while starting the script using init.d boot process

  My problem is like this (OS is Sun Solaris): 1) At the boot time I want to start a process using a specific script. I am doing this by putting this script in /etc/init.d (and following other K and S rules) 2) The program which will be called by the script is located at $HOME/xxx/yyy location. 4) I am using 'su - {myuser} -c "{full path of the program}"' in order to execute the script as {myuser} 3) I dont want to hardcode the value of $HOME in the script but want to use the $HOME env variable only. How can I get this $HOME env variable in the shell script? Also what other variables will be available to me?

• What's the reason why core data takes care of the life-cycle of modeled properties?

  The docs say that I should not release any modeled property in -dealloc. For me, that feels like violating the big memory management rules. I see a big retain in the header and no -release, because Core Data seems to do it at any other time. Is it because Core Data may drop the value of a property dynamically, at any time when needed? And what's Core Data doing when dropping an managed object? If there's no -dealloc, then how and when are the properties getting freed up?

Is there a requirement that cursors be declared prior to procedures? What other rules are there for order of declaration in a pl/sql block?
