The problem When I restart the server (sudo shutdown -r now), going to any website page results in the following error from the web browser (in this case, Google Chrome, but other browsers also show the same error). This error can also occur an hour or so after all is working ok, seemingly randomly, which is my biggest concern as it means my server is not reliable: No data received Unable to load the web page because the server sent no data. What I've tried a) I can 'fix' the website temporarily by resetting the server twice (resetting it once does not work) using the following commands. NB: the 'reload' option does not work, I have to use restart twice. However, the error can reoccur sometime later. sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart b) I have tried disabling suhosin by uninstalling php5-suhosin, but a php info page still shows "This server is protected with the Suhosin Patch 0.9.9.1". I have tried putting Suhosin into simulation mode by creating a file /etc/php5/apache2/conf.d/suhosin.ini containing: [suhosin] suhosin.simulation = On The php info page shows the suhosin.ini file in the list of "Additional .ini files parsed" but the php info page still shows "This server is protected with the Suhosin Patch 0.9.9.1" c) Increasing the PHP memory limit In /etc/php5/apache2/ : ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume (128MB) ; http://php.net/memory-limit memory_limit = 512M d) Disabling all Wordpress plugins, and going back to the default theme. 5. Specific help needed I would very much like help in debugging what is going on here. I am not sure how to determine what processes are in the Apache error log which are exiting "[notice] child pid 1955 exit signal Floating point exception (8)", or what is causing them to exit. And whether suhosin is part of the problem (and how to disable it if it is). Thank you in advance for any advice or tips you can offer in helping me debug this.

  I have a strange problem here. I just moved from apache + mod_php to nginx + php-fpm. Everything went fine except this one problem. I have a site, let's say example.com. When I access it like example.com?test=get_param $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] is /?test=get_param and there is a $_GET['test'] also. But when I access example.com/ajax/search/?search=get_param $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] is /ajax/search/?search=get_param yet there is no $_GET['search'] (there is no $_GET array at all). I'm using Kohana framework. which routes /ajax/search to controller, but I've put phpinfo() at index.php so I'm checking for $_GET variables before framework does anything (this means that disapearing get params aren't frameworks fault). • Mercurial extensions not working in Windows 7 x64?

  We are test driving Mercurial at work. We don't want to have to enter our user/pass each time we interact with a repository, so we set up the mercurial_keyring extension. We: Installed Python 2.6.5 (32 or 64 bit, depending on the system) Installed setuptools (for easy_install.exe) easy_install keyring easy_install mercurial_keyring And then made the appropriate changes to %userprofile%/mercurial.ini in the [auth] section. It works fine on my colleague's computer (32bit xp sp3), but it does not work on my machine (Windows 7 Ultimate x64). Also noteworthy, the setuptools had to be built from source on Win 7 x64 (python setup.py bdist_wininst, then run the resulting setuptools-0.6c11.win-amd64.exe). Using just hg.exe from the Mercurial 1.5 binary installation (the .msi), I get this error when I run hg.exe: * failed to import extension mercurial_keyring: No module named mercurial_keyring I tried to change my mercurial.ini, to specify the path to the mercurial_keyring.py file, instead of having mercurial find it (since it's in the PYTHONPATH). Old: [extensions] mercurial_keyring = New: [extensions] mercurial_keyring = c:/mercurial/extensions/mercurial_keyring.py The error changes to: abort: could not import module keyring! So while providing the path to the mercurial_keyring extension works, the dependent keyring module still cannot be found. After further investigation, it appears that NO extensions work. They all produce the error: * failed to import extension [extension name]: No module named [module name] It appears that when running hg.exe, it is not aware of PYTHONPATH. I have tried: Python 2.6.5 32 bit Python 2.6.5 64 bit Building Mercurial 1.5 from source with MinGW Building Mercurial 1.5 from source with MSVC9 Using hg.exe from the 1.5 binary dist (.msi) Using the hg.py in c:\python26\scripts when building from source Various configurations in %userprofile%/mercurial.ini Using setuptools (easy_install.exe) to install keyring and mercurial_keyring Building keyring and mercurial_keyring from source (python setup.py bdist_wininst) Nothing works. The closest I've got is using hg.py when building from source. It at least doesn't give me errors, and actually creates %userprofile%/wincrypto_pass.cfg when I enter my credentials. But on subsequent requests, it doesn't enter the credentials automatically. It prompts me for them again. Interestingly, TortoiseHG is using the keyring. I just can't get it to work on the command line. I think something is going on with Win 7 x64 that is preventing mercurial (hg.exe) from seeing the PYTHONPATH, so it can't find any of the installed modules. Does anyone have extensions working in Win 7 x64? Specifically with the binary installation of mercurial (not hg.py)?

• Jboss Seam: Enabling Debug page on WebLogic 10.3.2 (11g)

  Hi all, SKIP TO UPDATE 3 I want to enable the Seam debug page on Weblogic 10.3.2 (11g). So, I have done the following: I have the jboss-seam and jboss-seam-debug jars as dependency in both my ejb and web maven projects (both are modules of my superproject) I put this context parameter in my web.xml: <context-param> <param-name>org.jboss.seam.core.init.debug</param-name> <param-value>true</param-value> </context-param> Now, when I hit the URL of my application, I get the debug page with this exception (full stacktrace at the end of the post): Caused by java.lang.IllegalStateException with message: "No phase id bound to current thread (make sure you do not have two SeamPhaseListener instances installed)" From posts I read it seems that this is somehow related to two jars of jboss-seam or jboss-seam-debug being in the classpath. I opened my ear file and only one of each is present (in the ear) whereas the war itself has no libraries in the WEB-INF/lib. I have also read of another way to initialize debug page using the components.xml. They have an outer EAR project containing the inner WAR project. They discuss that this may be related to how jars end up in the projects. I use Maven, and I had set it to create "Skinny Wars", that is excluding all jar dependencies from the inner WAR project, so that it remains small in size. All its dependencies are contained in the EAR and are used by all other modules. I changed the settings of the maven-war-plugin to leave inside the war the web-specific jars (the ones mentioned in the link, like RichFaces, jboss-seam-debug, Facelets etc). However, the problem has reverted to its previous form. I now get the debug page, whatever link I press, with the initial exception. • Best ASP.NET E-Commerce Framework (aspDotNetStoreFront, AbleCommerce, BVCommerce, MediaChase,...)

  I need a full-featured asp.net E-Commerce solution for a project. It needs to be easily extensible as I need to extend it to integrate with a custom Flash based personalization engine. It should also have a great administrative back-end that handles inventory tracking, report, labels, shipping, ... so that the client can really use it as the basis for their business. I've used quite a few different E-Commerce systems including OSCommerce, Zen Cart, Catalook, and eTailer. While I was impressed with Zen Cart and eTailer, this project is big enough that I want to try a more serious, commercial offering. I'm particularly interested in thoughts on aspdotnetstorefront, BVCommerce, AbleCommerce, and MediaChase. [UPDATE] I've done quite a bit of evaluation since I posted this question and will give some of my findings below: BVCommerce - The price point is nice, the product seems fairly well regarded, and I've heard good things about customizing/extending it, it just doesn't seem like it's going to meet my needs as an Top Tier ECommerce solution. After viewing the tutorial videos, the Admin interface just seems too basic and outdated. aspDotNetStorefront - The integration with DotNetNuke was it's biggest selling point for me but after reading peoples opinions, it's integration seems quite weak. It's sounds like there's a significant learning curve and the architecture just doesn't sound like it's as clean as it should be. AbleCommerce - After a rather thorough evaluation, I have selected AbleCommerce for at least my next project. The Admin interface is beautiful and has a nice list of features. The E-Commerce portion of the user side is very well done, highly skin-able (using Master Pages and a couple other techniques), and the checkout workflow has all the features I need while still being very clean. Source to the API can be bought for $500 but you generally won't need it. There are some 3rd party modules available but there's not currently a large market for these. The biggest glaring weakness of AbleCommerce I've found is their CMS capabilities are very limited and not at all well suited for a non-technical user to make most site content updates. But I have a good solution for that that I plan adapting into AbleCommerce. They will automatically generate a site for you to play with to your heart's content for 30 days. It is defniitely worth checking out.

• C++ vs Matlab vs Python as a main language for Computer Vision Postgraduate

  Hi all, Firstly, sorry for a somewhat long question but I think that many people are in the same situation as me and hopefully they can also gain some benefit from this. I'll be starting my PhD very soon which involve the fields of computer vision, pattern recognition and machine learning. Currently, I'm using opencv (2.1) C++ interface and I especially like its powerful Mat class and the overloaded operations available for matrix and image seamless operations and transformations. I've also tried (and implemented many small vision projects) using opencv python interface (new bindings; opencv 2.1) and I really enjoy python's ability to integrate opencv, numpy, scipy and matplotlib. But recently, I went back to opencv C++ interface because I felt that the official python new bindings were not stable enough and no overloaded operations are available for matrices and images, not to mention the lack of machine learning modules and slow speeds in certain operations. I've also used Matlab extensively in the past and although I've used mex files and other means to speed up the program, I just felt that Matlab's performance was inadequate for real-time vision tasks, be it for fast prototyping or not. When the project becomes larger and larger, many tasks have to be re-written in C and compiled into Mex files increasingly and Matlab becomes nothing more than a glue language. Here comes the sub-questions: For postgrad studies in these fields (machine learning, vision, pattern recognition), what is your main or ideal programming language for rapid prototyping of ideas and testing algorithms contained in papers? For postgrad studies, can you list down the pros and cons of using the following languages? C++ (with opencv + gsl + svmlib + other libraries) vs Matlab (with all its toolboxes) vs python (with the imcomplete opencv bindings + numpy + scipy + matplotlib). Are there computer vision PhD/postgrad students here who are using only C++ (with all its availabe libraries including opencv) without even needing to resort to Matlab or python? In other words, given the current existing computer vision or machine learning libraries, is C++ alone sufficient for fast prototyping of ideas? If you're currently using Java or C# for your postgrad work, can you list down the reasons why they should be used and how they compare to other languages in terms of available libraries? • Loading a Page into a jQuery Dialog

  I tend to follow a fairly "modular" approach to building applications and I recently started working with jQuery. The application I'm working on is going to be fairly large so I'm trying to break pieces out into separate files/modules when possible. One example of this is a "User Settings" dialog. This dialog has a form, a few tabs, and quite a good number of input fields so I want to develop it in a separate HTML file (PHP actually, but it can be considered HTML for the purposes of this example). It's an entire page in and of itself with all the tags you would expect such as: <html><head></head><body></body></html> So I can now develop, what I want to be, the dialog separate from the base application. This dialog has it's own Javascript (A LOT of Javascript, in fact) in the head as well, with jQuery $(document).ready(){} capturing, etc. Everything works flawlessly in isolation. However, when I attempt to load the jQuery modal dialog with the page (inside of the main application page), as one might expect, trouble ensues. Here's a brief, very simple, example of what it looks like: editUserDialog.load ("editUser.php", {id : $('#userList').val(), popup : "true"}, function () { editUserDialog.dialog ("option", "title" , "Edit User"); editUserDialog.dialog ('open'); }); (I'm passing in a "popup" flag to the page so that the page can determine its context -- i.e. as a page or inside of the jQuery dialog). Question 1: When I moved the code from the "head" into "body" (in the editUser.php page) it actually worked for the most part. It seemed that jQuery was calling the $(document).ready() function in the context of the body of the loaded file and not the head. Is this a bad idea? Question 2: Is my process for building this application just totally flawed to begin with? I've scoured the net to attempt to find a "best practices" sort of document to building reasonably large applications using jQuery/PHP without a lot of success so maybe there's something out there someone else is aware of that I've somehow missed. • Post parameters are becoming null (at random)

  Hi, My web application is developed with Struts2 and it was working fine till recently. All of a sudden one of the modules has started malfunctioning. The malfunctioning module is 'Update Student details' page. This page has a lot of fields like 'schoolName', 'degreeName', etc . School 1: <input name="schoolName"> School 2: <input name="schoolName"> ..... School n: <input name="schoolName"> As mentioned earlier, the page was working perfectly fine till recently. Now, one/many of the values of 'schoolName', 'degreeName', etc are being received as "" (EMPTY STRING) on the server-side. For debugging, I used firebug and remote-debugging in eclipse. I find that the post-parameters are correct on the client-side. For instance, during one of the submissions the post-parameters were as below (i noted them from firebug). But it breaks whenever there are 2731 rows or more: OpenCV Error: One of arguments' values is out of range (requested size is negative or too big) in cvMemStorageAlloc, file [omitted]/opencv/OpenCV-2.2.0/modules/core/src/datastructs.cpp, line 332 With fewer rows, it seems to be fine and a classifier trained in a similar manner to the above seems to be giving reasonable output. Am I doing something wrong? I'm pretty sure it's not actually anything to do with lack of memory, as I've got 6GB and also the code works fine when the data has 2730 rows and 10000 columns, which is a much bigger allocation. I'm running OpenCV 2.2 on OSX 10.6 and initially I thought the problem might be related to this bug if for some reason the fix wasn't included in the MacPorts version. Now I've also tried downloading the most recent stable version from the OpenCV site and building with cmake and using that, but I still get the same error, and the fix is definitely included in that version.   Seems like this would be a common question, though I could not find it on SO. Which version of MSXML should I use in my applications, and more importantly, how should I decide? There is MSXML3, 4, 5 and 6. I recently posted some code in calling-wcf-service-by-vbscript that used MSXML v4. AnthonyWJones posted that I shouldn't use 4, but instead 3 or 6, but probably 3. Certainly not v5! Why? I'd like to know more about the criteria for selecting the version of MSXML to use in my apps. Bonus question: Does anyone have a summary of the differences between the various versions of MSXML over time? Summary so far: MSXML6 Should be first choice. was released in 2006, and includes perf and compliance fixes. Use this if you can. It's good. There are no merge modules; to bundle the MSXML6 runtime with your app, MS suggests packaging the MSXML6 msi file. MSXML6 is an upgrade from MSXML3/4 but does not replace them, because it discontinues some features. You can get the MSI here. MSXML3 Second choice. Most widely deployed version. Originally shipped in March 2000. Actively maintained, no new features. Currently supported, if you are on SP5 (shipped in 2005) or later. SP7 is current (also from 2005). MSXML5 was released only as part of MS-Office. Currently supported by Microsoft, but only as part of Office, not for building apps. Don't build apps that depend on MSXML5: Verboten. MSXML4 originally shipped? Currently in "maintenance mode". Microsoft is encouraging people to move off MSXML4 to MSXML6. Currently supported if you are on MSXML4SP2 or later, which shipped in 2003. download MSXML4SP2 here. Can be redisributed. • How to override PHP configuration when running in CGI mode

  There are some tutorials out there telling me how to override PHP configuration when it is running in CGI mode. But I'm still confused because lots of them assume that the server is running on Linux. While I need to do that also in Windows. My hosting is indeed using Linux but my local development computer is using Windows XP with Xampp 1.7.3. So I need to do that in my local computer first, then I want to change the configuration on hosting server. The PHP in my hosting server is already run as CGI while in my local computer still run as Apache module. At this point, the processes that I understand are: Change PHP to work in CGI mode. I did this by commenting these two line in "httpd-xampp.conf": # LoadFile "C:/xampp/php/php5ts.dll" # LoadModule php5_module modules/php5apache2_2.dll Create "cgi-bin" directory in DocumentRoot. My DocumentRoot is in "D:\www\" (I'm using apache with virtual host). So it is now "D:\www\cgi-bin". Change the default "cgi-bin" directory settings from "C:/xampp/cgi-bin/" to "D:\www\cgi-bin": ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "D:/www/cgi-bin/" <Directory "D:\www\cgi-bin"> Options MultiViews Indexes SymLinksIfOwnerMatch Includes ExecCGI AllowOverride All Allow from All </Directory> At this point, my PHP is now running as CGI. All of tutorials tell me to create 'php.cgi' file and put shell code inside the file. How to do the 6th step on Windows? I know the next step is to create handler in .htaccess file to load that 'php.cgi'. And also, because I will also need to change PHP configuration on my hosting server (Linux), is the 6th step above right? • How to construct a flowchart/storyboard in a Func Spec

  Hey I'm a bit embarrassed to write a post on this topic, but I would appreciate the help. At my school, the CS kids (myself included) have created a nice, little program that is built for incoming Chem/Bio students. It consists of several modules that reviews topics they should have a firm grasp on before they start their classes. It's a nice tool since it cuts down on reviewing the material in class but also allows the students to do a quick diagnostic to fix any problems. Now, I'm in charge of constructing a simple interface that reports on the progress of the group and individual students. The interface is pretty simple. It's just a window that pops up, and it has three tabs: the first tab is a "cumulative" report of all of students. The secnod tab has a drop down box that lists the students and once a student is selected, a report for him/her comes up. And the third tab is simply a description of all of the terms used in the 1st and 2nd tabs. Now, I'm trying to be a good CS student and write a func. spec for my interface. My problem comes with the fact that I'd like to insert a little flowchart using Visio. Problem is, and I'm quite embarrassed to admit this, I don't know how to construct the flowchart/storyboard. For instance, I know I start with a "Start/Click Icon" in a rectangle. Then where do I go? Do I draw three arrrows (one going to each tab) and then describing what goes on? In tab one, the only thing that happens is that the user will select a "sort" method in the drop down box. This will sort the list. The End. Similarly, if the user selects the second tab, then he will go to a drop down box with the student names. Selecting a name will bring up student info. And the third tab is just a list of unfamiliar terms coming from the first or second tab. I wanted to storyboard/flowchart what I'm doing, but I'm unclear how to go about it. Any help would be appreciated! (Just to clarify, I'm not having trouble with using Visio, but I don't know how one goes about construct a storyboard or determining the procedure for constructing one)

• When should I use Perl's AUTOLOAD?

  In "Perl Best Practices" the very first line in the section on AUTOLOAD is: Don't use AUTOLOAD However all the cases he describes are dealing with OO or Modules. I have a stand alone script in which some command line switches control which versions of particular functions get defined. Now I know I could just take the conditionals and the evals and stick them naked at the top of my file before everything else, but I find it convenient and cleaner to put them in AUTOLOAD at the end of the file. Is this bad practice / style? If you think so why, and is there a another way to do it? As per brian's request I'm basically using this to do conditional compilation based on command line switches. • JavaScript/Dojo Module Pattern - how to debug?

  I'm working with Dojo and using the "Module Pattern" as described in Mastering Dojo. So far as I can see this pattern is a general, and widely used, JavaScript pattern. My question is: How do we debug our modules? So far I've not been able to persuade Firebug to show me the source of my module. Firebug seems to show only the dojo eval statement used to execute the factory method. Hence I'm not able to step through my module source. I've tried putting "debugger" statements in my module code, and Firebug seems to halt correctly, but does not show the source. Contrived example code below. This is just an example of sufficient complexity to make the need for debugging plausible, it's not intended to be useful code. • Nested Sortable JQuery list doesn't work in IE while it does in FF

  Hello everybody, While I'm using this site quite often as a resource for jQuery related problems I can't seem to find an answer this time. So here is my first post. During daytime at work I'm developing an informationsystem for generating MS Word documents. One of the modules I'm developing is for defining a default chapterselection for the table of contents and selecting texts by the given chapters. A user can submit new chapters and if necessary, add them as childchapter to a parent, flag them as 'adopt in TOC' and link a default text (from another module) to the chapter. My chapterlist is retreived recursively from a MySQL table and could look something like this: <ul class="sortableChapterlist"> <li>1</li> <li>2 <ul class="sortableChapterlist"> <li>2.1</li> <li>2.2</li> <li>2.3 <ul class="sortableChapterlist"> <li>2.3.1</li> <li>2.3.2</li> </ul> </li> </ul> </li> </ul> In FireFox the code works like a charm but IE (7) doesn't seem to like it that much. I'm only able to correctly drag arround the mainchapters. When attempting to drag a subchapter, no matter it's level, the correspondending mainchapter lifts up with some child, never all. This is the jQuery code I'm using to accomplish the task: $(function(){ $(".sortableChapterlist").sortable({ opacity: 0.7, helper: 'clone', cursor: 'move' }); $(".sortableChapterlist").selectable(); $(".sortableChapterlist").disableSelection(); }); Does anybody have some ideas about this?   I am learning Haskell. I am on the 8th chapter of this book. The main thing I've learned so far is that Haskell is very unfriendly to me and it bites my ass where possible. Moreover... Heck!
