  "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." Hi, I am trying to load a php page on apache , but none of the static content gets loaded. Using firebug I captured the static url and tried it separately, when I received "The connection was reset" message. The site works other computers mac, windows, linux but no on mine. I have deleted the cache, disabled firewall, changed my dns service and followed every possible suggestion on the web. I have no clue on why this is happening. Stack-overflow has been my bible and has never let me down before, hope it still doesn't ... Thanks a lot in advance .... please please please , i really have to figure out this error. Regards Dilip

  Hi folks, I have developed a windows services to retrieve all response data provided by the EPO webservices. While scrapping the data through internet, after few hours i recieve a error message as: Error: ** Please request bibliographic data in smaller chunks.** Here bibliographic data is one kind of the service provided by the EPO webservice. I hope there is no error with my inputs and the service provided. I dont know what this error means. Is it related to the internet connection or with my webservices? can anyone please help me on what this error actually mean?

• Write a network simulator for fun

  I want to write my own network simulator, for fun and for personal challenge. I hope to learn both new programming techniques, and a little bit more about networking. Previous object-oriented attempts ended very quickly, but I've recently downloaded and played with Microsoft's Axum (a new version was released today) and their Concurrency and Co-ordination Runtime. As I come from a very OO dominant background, I had never heard of Actor-oriented programming before; now it seems I've had my head in the sand until Scala and F# brought the paradigm to me. My questions are: a) is actor-oriented programming a better choice than object-oriented programming for this task, and if so b) where is a good place to start learning actor-oriented design?

  I have an app that I want to interact with a web page. Basically I want to press a button and the web page will open in a new view... Sorry I wasn't clear, I am developing on a Mac for an iPhone. Currently I have a "locate me" app that displays your Latitude and Longitude. I want to use those variables to populate 2 of the blanks on a PHP web page/form I have developed. I have added a label and button to my current app, when the button is pressed the URL with the Lat and Long (as passed vars) are displayed in the label. I want those vars to appear on my web page. Hope this is clearer...   I am doing data analysis and sometimes I need to check and to make sure each row in excel does not have any repeated value. I hope that there is a formula where each time if there's a repeated value in the same row, the value will be highlighted and it doesn't matter what value it is, as long as it's repeated in the same row. I try to search it everywhere but the closest I can find is below question & answer ( which couldn't apply to me as I need a formula that can highlight any value that's repeated and not only zero): I have rows which contain grades for students (numerical values), where the number 0 means they missed a class. I want the row to be highlighted in one color if they have "0" 3 or 4 times, and in another color if they have "0" 5 times or more. =COUNTIF(1:1,0)=5 Anyone can help me? Thanks in advance!

• Extract anything that looks like links from large amount of data in python

  Hi, I have around 5 GB of html data which I want to process to find links to a set of websites and perform some additional filtering. Right now I use simple regexp for each site and iterate over them, searching for matches. In my case links can be outside of "a" tags and be not well formed in many ways(like "\n" in the middle of link) so I try to grab as much "links" as I can and check them later in other scripts(so no BeatifulSoup\lxml\etc). The problem is that my script is pretty slow, so I am thinking about any ways to speed it up. I am writing a set of test to check different approaches, but hope to get some advices :) Right now I am thinking about getting all links without filtering first(maybe using C module or standalone app, which doesn't use regexp but simple search to get start and end of every link) and then using regexp to match ones I need.

• JNI: dll function works ok in C++ main, but not with dll wrapper

  I have an a.dll (not modifiable as i do not have the source) with a function bool openPort(DWORD mem).I wrote a c++ main, loaded this dll using LoadLibrary, and the function works well.It returns true. Now, I need to call this function from Java via JNI.   We are using ASP.NET with a lot of AJAX "Page Method" calls. The WebServices defined in the Page invokes methods from our BusinessLayer. To prevent hackers to call the Page Methods, we want to implement some security in the BusinessLayer. We are struggling with two different issues. First one: public List<Employees> GetAllEmployees() { // do stuff } This Method should be called by Authorized Users with the Role "HR". Second one: public Order GetMyOrder(int orderId) { // do sutff } This Method should only be called by the owner of the Order. I know it's easy to implement the security for each method like: public List<Employees> GetAllEmployees() { // check if the user is in Role HR } or public Order GetMyOrder(int orderId) { // check if the order.Owner = user } What I'm looking for is some pattern/best practice to implement this kind of security in a generic way (without coding the the if then else every time) I hope you get what i mean :-)

  Hello, I have a windows form that has a simple menu and performs a simple operation, I want to be able to create another windows form with all the functionality of a menu bar, message pump etc.. as a seperate process so I can then share the results of the operation to the second window. I.E. 1) Form A opens Form B opens as a separate process 2)Form A performs operation 3)Form A passes results via memory to Form B 4)Form B display results I'm confused as to how to go about it, the main app runs fine but i'm not sure how to add a second window if the first one already exists. • Tag Cloud Data Backend

  I want to be able to generate tag clouds from free text that comes from any number of different sources. For clarity, I'm not talking about how to display a tag cloud once the critical tags/phrases are already discovered, I'm hoping to be able to discover the meaningful phrases themselves... preferable on a PHP/MySQL stack. If I had to do this myself, I'd start by establishing some kind of index for words/phrases that gives a "normal" frequency for any word/phrase. eg "Constantinople" occurs once in every 1,000,000 words on average (normal frequency "0.000001"). Then as I analyze a body of text, I'd find the individual words/phrases (another challenge!), find frequencies of each within the input, and measure against the expected freqeuncy. Words that have the highest ratio against expected frequency get boosted priority in the cloud. I'd like to believe someone else has already done this, WAY better than I could hope to, but I'll be damned if I can find it. Any recommendations??

• how do I notify child controls of a change in the parent

  what is the best way to keep a child control up to date for changes in the parent. I have a number of child controls hosted inside my parent object and I can think of two ways to send change information to them. 1) wire the child control to an event in the parent. and fire that event on a change in the parent 2) keep a list of the children in an array and intenerate through the array when the change has happened and invoke a method in the child to handle the new changes. I hope I describe it okay. both work but there is probably a right way to handle this and a wrong way.

  Hi, I have two Activities A and B. I want to have the shrink Animation when Activity A calls B and maximize animation when Activity B calls A. I don't need the animation xml files for this. When we call another Activity in Android it gives its default animation and then it calls shrink animation. What I want is that the default animation should not occur and the animation that I want should occur. Can we actually give the animation when calling another Activity? Hope to get a quick response.   Hello, I'm stumbling in the data wilderness and feel very lost, so i am asking for help. I have done some database apps in VS (C#) winforms for some time, wpf lately. These are small to medium apps (embedded dbs, a bit of sql server), like a restaurants, cash registers and similar. (15-20 tables) Until now, i have done all my datasets by drag and drop in Visual Studio designer. I spent weeks on web trying to find some complete solution how to write complete solution with typed datasets by hand from scratch (DAL, B.Objects) in hope to learn some architecture patterns along the way, but without success. So, finally question. Can someone recommend me what to learn for this type of applications, maybe move away from datasets , use some ORM ( maybe overkill, i dont know). Point me in some direction please.

• Why do Lua arrays(tables) start at 1 instead of 0?

  Hi, I don't understand the rational behind the decision of this part of Lua. Why does indexing start at 1? I have read(as many others did) this great paper. It seems to me a strange corner of a language that is very pleasant to learn and program. Don't get me wrong, Lua is just great but there has to be an explanation somewhere. Most of what I found(on the web) is just saying the index starts at 1. Full stop. It would be very interesting to read what its designers said about the subject. Note that I am "very" beginner in Lua, I hope I am not missing something obvious about tables.

For example, if i have a master list: 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 2, 39, 482, 19283, 19, 23, 1, 29 And I want to find sequence: 1, 2, 3, 4 I would like some easy way to fill a subset list with: 1, 2, 3, 4 + the next five integers in the master list And then remove the integers in the subset list from the master list so at the end of the operation, my lists would look like this: Master list: 19, 23, 1, 29 Subset list: 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 2, 39, 482, 19283 Hope that makes sense. I'm guessing maybe linq would be good for something like this, but I've never used it before. Can anyone help?

  I have an application which has different font sizes for different controls say Button: 10, TextBlock : 12 etc. I want to give options to the user where he can select any one of the below say Normal , Small, Big, Bigger. Suppose one selects "small" I would want to decrease every distinct font size by 2. If "Big", I would want to increase every font size by 2. I hope we can do this using converter sending actual font size as parameter and render as per the selected choice if I am not wrong. What will be the best option. • Problems after adding Control dynamically on Panel

  Hello, I have added an View List onto a Panel like that: panelComponent.Controls.Add(viewListComponent); Everthing works just fine. Mouse Events are handled, Repaint works. But one: I cant dynamically move it around. If i change the control.Top Variablen it just sit there and nothing. Its clued to the top left corner. Resizing the right and bottom line works just fine! I did it without dynamically adding and than no Problem. Hope you can help. Thomas

• Can anyone help with java? Finding common nodes from two linked lists using recursion

  I have to write a method that returns a linked list with all the nodes that are common to two linked lists using recursion, without loops. For example, first list is 2 - 5 - 7 - 10 second list is 2 - 4 - 8 - 10 the list that would be returned is 2 - 10 I am getting nowhere with this.. What I have been think of was to check each value of the first list with each value of the second list recursively but the second list would then be cut by one node everytime and I cannot compare the next value in the first list with the the second list. I hope this makes sense... Can anyone help?

• Touch and Drag from one view to another

  Hi all! I've search for some clues on this problem without much success. Hope someone can kick me in the right direction. I am prototyping a couple of apps where I need to design my own GUI. The GUI is made up by two separated UIViews where one of them contains a small thumb of an image. I want to be able to drag this thumb from the first view to the other. Simple as that! But I haven't figured out how this is done. Here is the exact flow I am looking for: touch the thumb animate a small enlargement of the thumb drag the thumb to the other UIView drop the thumb animate a shrink of the thumb Not particularly strange, but the thumb remains related to the first view all the time. I've tried to move the thumb via the first views superview and then back to the second view, but with no luck.
