  • Partition table correpted in windows 7 machine as simple dynamic partition

    I have Windows 7 installed in my system. When I originally partitioned it I made 3 partitions and 16 gb space as unallocated. Later I tried to create a partition using this free space using diskmanagement tool. It shows free space as unusabe space and the only one option available is to make it as a simple partition. Unfortunately I made it as simple partition and all my partitions converted to simple dynamic partition. Now after reboot the OS is not loading. I tried to reinstall the OS by formatting the C drive, but it doesn't work. Now I can't load the OS properly. How can I install Windows 7 on my system without losing my data on the other two drives?

  • Running resize2fs on /

    I'm trying to resize an ext4 filesystem on a Fedora 11 box. Using fsdisk and lvm, I was able to grow the partition and logical volume containing the filesystem. When I try to run resize2fs on the device containing the filesystem (/dev/sda2 in this case), I get: "Device or resource busy while trying to open /dev/sda2, Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock" I've tried this from a rescue disk that doesn't have the filesystem mounted, no joy. Maybe resize2fs doesn't know about ext4?

  • EBS+RAID10+XFS slower than EBS+RAID10+EXT3 using MySQL?

    We're currently using EC2 with 16 EBS volumes in RAID10 configuration for our MySQL data. I know some people don't recommend to put EBS volumes to RAID but that's not what I'm concerned about at the moment. Current format is ext3, but we're experimenting with moving to xfs, given many reports that it is faster. However, we're actually experiencing a performance degradation when the partition was converted to xfs - a benchmark run with inserts, updates, selects and deletes was more than 10 seconds slower using xfs. Any idea what could be the problem? Below is the fstab entry (really only changed ext3 to xfs). Database tables are innodb and we are using innodb_file_per_table. /dev/mapper/vg_data-lv_data /data xfs noatime 0 0 Thanks.

    I really do like the Grid plugin in Compiz, but at work I cannot use Compiz on my workstation (Fedora 12). Is there anything similar for plain X or Metacity? The Grid-plugin gives you a few keyboard shortcuts for tiling active window. For example Ctrl+Alt+Numpad_4 would tile window to half screen.

The problem is that for some reason just initiating the extension in the php ini file slows down my entire network. Regular requests such as changing pages that should take less than 1 second take 5.   • permission denied when trying to execute a binary I burned to a CD-R

    On a UBUNTU karmic machine, I burned a cd from the command prompt using: cdrecord -v speed=16 dev=0,1,0 /FPS.iso The CD now contains an executable and some files. I tested the cd by loading it onto another machine (Red Hat 5.3) and when I try to run the program I get the following message: bash: ./FPS1_1: Permission denied I can open other files like text documents (the executable also comes with shared libraries). I realized I had burned the cd as root so I burned another one as another user but I still got the same problem. How can I remove this permission or what is the problem? P.S. the image was in / if that helps

    I'm taking to putting various files in /tmp, and I wondered what the rules on deleting them are? I'm imagining it's different for different distributions, and I'm particularly interested in Ubuntu and Fedora desktop versions. But a nice general way of finding out would be a great thing. Even better would be a nice general way of controlling it! (Something like 'every day at 3 in the morning, delete any /tmp files older than 60 days, but don't clear the directory on reboot')

  • Connect to RDS inside a VPC using Opsworks located in another VPC

    I have a RDS instance (mysql) inside a VPC called vpc-a (10.0.0.0/16). This instance is private, it can only be accessed from vpc-a. We created a stack on opsworks inside another VPC called vpc-b (10.1.0.0). We want to connect opsworks to the RDS but it doesn't work. It refuses to connect. I tried adding said subnet to the RDS security group. Also read a lot of documentation but I haven't stumbled across the answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Only some motherboards can support faster RAM?

    This is a question relating to one of my builds. Here are the specs: ECS P4VXASD2+ V5.0 motherboard Intel P4 Northwood 2.8 GHz (533 MHz FSB, 512 KB L2) 2x 1GB PC3200 DDR RAM Maxtor 300GB IDE HDD 16 MB NVIDIA TNT2 Pro AGP OKIA 300W ATX PSU Gigabyte 52x CD-ROM The issue right now is that I'm trying to install Windows XP from the CD drive but the computer randomly restarts partway through installation. My other build was BSODing due to RAM latency errors. This ECS board manual states that memory modules "up to 333 MHz" (i.e. PC2700) is supported. However, I am running PC3200 modules, which is clearly faster than PC2700. Would this be causing the computer from randomly restarting? EDIT 1: I also wanted to mention that my Emachines T2482 is actually running 2x 512MB PC3200 DDR RAM when it should only be supporting PC1600 and PC2100 DDR RAM. Yet there are no issues with it.

The old site's URL are all based on the query string, we'd usually do explicit rewrites like below.   • SVN Server not responding

    I've been bashing my head against a wall with this one all day and I would greatly appreciate a few more eyes on the problem at hand. We have an in-house SVN Server that contains all live and development code for our website. Our live server can connect to this and get updates from the repository. This was all working fine until we migrated the SVN Server from a physical machine to a vSphere VM. Now, for some reason that continues to fathom me, we can no longer connect to the SVN Server. The SVN Server runs CentOS 6.2, Apache and SVN 1.7.2. SELinux is well and trully disabled and the problem remains when iptables is stopped. Our production server does run an older version of CentOS and SVN but the same system worked previously so I don't think that this is the issue. Of note, if I have iptables enabled, using service iptables status, I can see a single packet coming in and being accepted but the production server simply hangs on any svn command. If I give up waiting and do a CTRL-C to break the process I get a "could not connect to server". To me it appears to be something to do with the SVN Server rejecting external connections but I have no idea how this would happen. Any thoughts on what I can try from here?   • Ultra-lightweight web browser?

    Are there any good super-lightweight graphical web browsers out there? I'd like to be able to browse the web on an old PC, but the mainstream crop of browsers is just too heavy, and I don't want to resort to something like Lynx. There must be something decent out there that'll fit in 16 or 32MB of RAM comfortably. 100% standards compliance isn't necessary, but I'd like something that supports the most widely used parts of CSS and JavaScript. The goal is to get 98% of sites usable in a nice, graphical format.

  • Dovecot immediately logs off user

    I'm trying to set up email on my server, and have successfully set up POP3 with gmail for my main account. When attempting to set up another user though, gmail reports ` There was a problem communicating with dylanstestserver.com. I can't figure out why it's working for me and not the other users. I do receive email sent to the address on the server. One suggestion I found online was to try logging in over telnet, but strangely, it kicks me off right after I log in. dylan~$ telnet dylanstestserver.com 110 Trying 50.16.219.8...
