  • How do I use beta test Perl modules from test Perl scripts?

    If my Perl code has a production code location and "beta" code location (e.g. production Perl code us in /usr/code/scripts, BETA Perl code is in /usr/code/beta/scripts; production Perl libraries are in /usr/code/lib/perl and BETA versions of those libraries are in /usr/code/beta/lib/perl, is there an easy way for me to achieve such a setup? The exact requirements are: The code must be THE SAME in production and BETA location. To clarify, to promote any code (library or script) from BETA to production, the ONLY thing which needs to happen is literally issuing cp command from BETA to prod location - both the file name AND file contents must remain identical. BETA versions of scripts must call other BETA scripts and BETA libraries (if exist) or production libraries (if BETA libraries do not exist) The code paths must be the same between BETA and production with the exception of base directory (/usr/code/ vs /usr/code/beta/) I will present how we solved the problem as an answer to this question, but I'd like to know if there's a better way.

    Hi We got a problem with NUnit 2.5.3: nunit-console.exe does not return after finishing all tests. The process hangs forever. Example: All tests succeed, but it keeps doing something.     I have the following property public MyType MyProperty {get;set;} I want to change this property so that if the value is null, it'll do populate the value first, and then return it... but without using a private member variable. For instance, if I was doing this: public MyType MyProperty { get { if (_myProperty != null) return _myProperty else _myProperty = XYZ; return _myProperty; } set { _myProperty = value; } } is this possible? Or do I need the member variable to get it done?

  • Python coding test problem for interviews

    I'm trying to come up with a good coding problem to ask interview candidates to solve with Python. They'll have an hour to work on the problem, with an IDE and access to documentation (we don't care what people have memorized). I'm not looking for a tough algorithmic problem - there are other sections of the interview where we do that kind of thing. The point of this section is to sit and watch them actually write code. So it should be something that makes them use just the data structures which are the everyday tools of the application developer - lists, hashtables (dictionaries in Python), etc, to solve a quasi-realistic task. They shouldn't be blocked completely if they can't think of something really clever. We have a problem which we use for Java coding tests, which involves reading a file and doing a little processing on the contents. It works well with candidates who are familiar with Java (or even C++). But we're running into a number of candidates who just don't know Java or C++ or C# or anything like that, but do know Python or Ruby. Which shouldn't exclude them, but leaves us with a dilemma: On the one hand, we don't learn much from watching someone struggle with the basics of a totally unfamiliar language. On the other hand, the problem we use for Java turns out to be pretty trivial in Python (or Ruby, etc) - anyone halfway competent can do it in 15 minutes. So, I'm trying to come up with something better. Surprisingly, Google doesn't show me anyone doing something like this, unless I'm just too dumb to enter the obvious search term. The best idea I've come up with involves scheduling workers to time slots, but it's maybe a little too open-ended. Have you run into a good example? Or a bad one? Or do you just have an idea?

  • importing pywiiuse to test out

    This is probably a simple problem. But I downloaded the pywiiuse library from here and I also downloaded the examples. However when I try to run one of the examples I end up with import issues. I'm not certain I have everything configured properly to run.     The graphical Interface in my system is garbled with some text. At the beginning I thought it was due to java and tomcat that I installed. But after removing java and tomcat, it is still the same. I am using ubuntu server and i have installed xfce desktop environment with oboard softkey I have added my dmesg output to this message.     So it seems like a lot of people are playing the blame game around where I work, and it brings up an interesting question. Knowns: Requirements team writes requirements for product. Developers create their own unit tests out of requirements. Testing team creates their general tests out of requirements and past customer issues. Product released if and only if X% of testcases from Testing team passes Customer response team gets bugs from the field, and lets the testing team know about these issues. Question: If the customer ends up filing a lot of defects, who is to blame? Is it the Testing team for not covering those? Or is it the requirements team for not writing better requirements? And how does one improve upon the system?

    I'm creating a project to house an iPhone library for common code for the iPhone... essentially it's a library that'll save people from finding solutions to common problems that amount to copying and pasting snippets of code. The site is located here: http://code.google.com/p/devkit-bb/ I licensed it under Eclipse, because fosters the extension of the library without requiring constraints like LGPL on object files being provided/made available, which would be the case since everything is statically linked. What I'm wondering is how/what license to apply to the unit tests? Since they essentially demonstrate how to use various interfaces and components. Thus they're designed for potential copy and paste situations, and I don't want people who might end up using this as part of the building blocks of their environment to feel like the license would prohibit that "derivative work", ie. their application or game.

  • How to prevent HTTP 304 in Django test server

    I have a couple of projects in Django and alternate between one and another every now and then. All of them have a /media/ path, which is served by django.views.static.serve, and they all have a /media/css/base.css file. The problem is, whenever I run one project, the requests to base.css return an HTTP 304 (not modified), probably because the timestamp hasn't changed. But when I run the other project, the same 304 is returned, making the browser use the file cached by the previous project (and therefore, using the wrong stylesheet). Just for the record, here are the middleware classes: MIDDLEWARE_CLASSES = ( 'django.middleware.common.CommonMiddleware', 'django.contrib.sessions.middleware.SessionMiddleware', 'django.contrib.auth.middleware.AuthenticationMiddleware', 'django.middleware.transaction.TransactionMiddleware', ) I always use the default address http://localhost:8000. Is there another solution (other than using different ports - 8001, 8002, etc.)?

    If my Perl code has a production code location and "beta" code location (e.g. production Perl code us in /usr/code/scripts, BETA Perl code is in /usr/code/beta/scripts; production Perl libraries are in /usr/code/lib/perl and BETA versions of those libraries are in /usr/code/beta/lib/perl, is there an easy way for me to achieve such a setup? The exact requirements are: The code must be THE SAME in production and BETA location. To clarify, to promote any code (library or script) from BETA to production, the ONLY thing which needs to happen is literally issuing cp command from BETA to prod location - both the file name AND file contents must remain identical. BETA versions of scripts must call other BETA scripts and BETA libraries (if exist) or production libraries (if BETA libraries do not exist) The code paths must be the same between BETA and production with the exception of base directory (/usr/code/ vs /usr/code/beta/) I will present how we solved the problem as an answer to this question, but I'd like to know if there's a better way.

  • Bad http connection (400) from Simple Native Iphone App to test .net Web Service

    Dear all, I have written a simple hello world .net web service which will accept 2 parameters and return the parameters as a string. The web service is hosted by IIS on a windows xp pc. I am able to access the web service using safari on the iphone simulator, successfully tested the operation using HTTP POST by clicking the "invoke" button. However, when I use the native app on the iphone simulator, I keep getting a bad http connection error 400 on the IIS log. I have tested my native app with http://viium.com/WebService/HelloWorld.asmx and it works. I have already added Does anyone know what is wrong? Is it some settings that have not configured correctly?     Is there a jdbc driver for SQL Server that can search for database instances on network? Just wanting to emulate "OSQL -L" from the JDBC driver. Dont want to have to call OSQL from JNI or something. I also don't want to have to write my own code for scanning a UDP port. I want my Java application to be able to search for live SQL Servers and prompt me with a list of available servers. Isn't this a reasonable expectation for a JDBC driver? OSQL.exe can do it and so why not the JDBC driver?
