• RSAT and double accounts

  Since we are looking at migrating our domain admins to use non domain-admin accounts and runas for admin tasks a discussion has begun. How do others use RSAT with runas? I know you can Shift+RightClick run as other user to launch it with admin rights, but it looses the icon on the taskbar. The question also has been put, why do Microsoft release the RSAT tools if they recommend admins to run using non-domain accounts. Edit: Further to this, some of the initial testing with RSAT via the run as other user command hasn't worked out well. Few of the options don't function in the Hyper-V and Failover Cluster Manager.

• how to verify that an old session is really destroyed?

  Um, this might sound a bit weird. We were having some problems with a specific browser under a very specific condition, and finally narrowed down the problem to the fact that we were not properly destroying the old sessions after doing session_regenerate_id(). I believe I have solved this problem by doing session_regenerate_id(true) now, but how does one verify that the previous sessions really do not exist any more? Someone suggested cURL but I cannot find my way around their docs. Sadly(?) the boss does not take 'it just works' for an answer so I'd really appreciate any advice!

• Google Chrome pinned to Windows 7 taskbar not opening under pinned icon

  I have both Google Chrome and Eclipse pinned to my taskbar in Windows 7 64-Bit. However, when I launch these programs, they don't appear to open under the pinned taskbar icon Eclipse behaves similarly. The Eclipse launcher/workspace selector is under the pinned icon, but once the IDE opens, it moves from the pinned icon, to a new group at the end of the taskbar. Unpinning/repinning doesn't seem to do the trick. It's bothersome to have taskbar space wasted on both the launcher icon, and the window button. Anybody have an idea how to get normal behavior out of the taskbar?

Working with the "good half" of the elements is easy: $("some selector").filter(function() { // determine result... return result; }).each( /* do something */ ); But how can I work with the "other half" of my elements, too - but without doing the equivalent of this: $("some selector").filter(function() { // determine result... return !result; }).each( /* do something else */ ); Basically, I'd like to feed two separate /* do something */ parts to a single filter. One for those that match, and one for the others - without having to filter twice. Am I missing a jQuery function that does this? P.S.: I guess I could do: $("some selector").each(function() { // determine result... if (result) /* do something */ else /* do something else */ }); But I was hoping for something nicer.

But after running my program on event onclick the alert dialog box opens and allows filling information in it. and then on click of ok button alert dialog if condition is matched than data will be submitted and intent will pass otherwise in toast msg it will show something like enter correct password or loginid etc. but when on second click of button on which I have set alertdialogbox the thread msg will appear and it will close the program so what is the solution for this.   Maybe a closure is my solution? Not exactly sure how to pull it off though. The code is set up like so: var globalVar = ''; var globalVar2 = ''; function func() { if (condition) func2(globalVar) else func2(globalVar2) } In func2() I cache some HTML in a main container into the appropriate global variable that I pass to it. Basically I have a main container that holds different pages depending on what tab they choose. For performance I want to cache the page into global vars so I need to know what tab is active to figure out which global var to assign the HTML to.

• Does any language have a while-else flow structure?

  Consider this flow structure which I happen to use often: if ( hasPosts() ) { while ( hasPosts() ) { displayNextPost(); } } else { displayNoPostsContent(); } Are there any programming languages which have an optional else clause for while, which is to be run if the while loop is never entered? Thus, the code above would become: while ( hasPosts() ) { displayNextPost(); } else { displayNoPostsContent(); } I find it interesting that many languages have the do-while construct (run the while code once before checking the condition) yet I have never seen while-else addressed. There is precedent for running an N block of code based on what was run in N-1 block, such as the try-catch construct. I wasn't sure whether to post here or on programmers.SE. If this question is more appropriate there, then please move it. Thanks.

  I'm looking for a Windows feature or third-party tool that can produce a list of active processes (as in the task manager) with the command line used to start each process. e.g. if I launch "php.exe -q script.php" in a command line, during the execution of my process, I'd like to see this command in the list and not only "php.exe" Tasklist, process explorer, taskinfo... can't give this information and/or make it available in a text format. • Adding code to the beginning / end of methods in runtime dynamically

  I know instrumentation is a technique to add trace code dynamically into the methods to enable tracing and debugging. I was wondering if this is only a "Trace" option, hard coded into the CLR to add only trace code, or is there the ability to add any code to the methods? For example, I want to check for a condition in the beginning of every single method call in a certain class (say for permissions). Can I do this via adding dynamic code to the beginning of the methods in execution time? I'm not sure how this trace "instrumentation" thing works, but I'm wondering if this can be used for other goals too, or not.

• Re-ordering C++ template functions

  In C++, I have a certain template function that, on a given condition, calls a template function in another class. The trouble is that the other class requires the full definition of the first class to be implemented, as it creates the second class and stores them and manages them in similar fashions. The trouble is that naturally, they fall as one class, and thus have some tight interop, except that I need them to be two classes for threading reasons. A sort of, master for all threads, one child per thread, system. Any advice on how this can be implemented?

• Windows 7 startup problem

  I purchased a computer a few weeks ago which runs on Windows 7. I was just watching a show on Hulu when it shut off. I don't know if I accidently pushed the power button with the keyboard or what. When I turned it back on my first screen says F5 key for HDD recovery. I pressed the F5 button and the screen goes to a Windows setup (EMS enabled) screen which then goes to my regular Starting Windows. After that one I get the box with x:/windows/system32/cmd.exe-startnent.cmd. If I don't press the F5 button I go to a screen which tells me Windows failed to start, a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. It gives me two options- Launch Setup REpair(recommended) or start Windows normally. I've pressed enter to choose the first choice but it does nothing but brings me to the same screen. Anyone have any ideas?

• From where can I get "Python Launcher" for Mac OS X Lion?

  I use a macbook (air) with OS X Lion on it. I have Python 2.7 installed already but I can't seem to find a "Python Launcher.app" anywhere on the system. I tried installing with with pip but it couldn't find anything to fetch. I tried searching on Google to find a downloader but my search yielded no results (for downloading). Where can I get this app? I have a folder with 20+ subfolders of GUI examples which in turn contain anywhere from 3 to 5 subfolders. I don't want to go through each within the terminal, would much rather launch these .py scrips from the finder. Thank you for your help.

• Install the proper bitness Visual C++ Runtime Library via a Setup project

  Hi all! The context: I have a solution that contains amongh other C# projects, a VC++ project that suports compiling only as x64 or Win32 (but not Any CPU). In order for the application (which in fact is a macro for a third party application) to run, it requires Visual C++ Runtime libraries (x86) or (x64) (The macro will run on both x64 and x86 operating systems.) The problem: I want to create a Visual Studio setup project that would install the macro on both x86 and x64 operating systems, and the problem I have is to specify what Visual C++ Runtime library to use a prerequisite. If both are selected (x64 and x86) than I have a runtime error message when running the setup.exe, as on x86 operating systems you cannot run x64 executables like the Visual C++ Runtime libraries (x64) kit is...(which the setup calls in the back). So I would need a bitness condition, or something like that to tell the setup what bitness version of the Visual C++ Runtime library to try to install...I'm not sure if this is possible, or even where such a code should be placed in the setup.   Say that I have a long, expensive query, packed with conditions, searching a large number of rows. I also have one particular condition, like a company id, that will limit the number of rows that need to be searched considerably, narrowing it down to dozens from hundreds of thousands. • How to run a command in a process that is not a child of the current process?

  I am having a library conflict issue with calling an external program from within a interpreted programming environment (IDL). The issue seems to be that since the program I am calling ends up as a child of IDL, libraries are not being reloaded. From within IDL I can launch sub-processes either directly or using a shell. Is there a good way that I can cause my program to be run without ending up as a child process? The only solution I have found so far is to use ssh localhost my_program. This works perfectly but I would like a more direct solution.

  Hi I am trying to use a condition on events when the start_at DateTime is equal to or greater than Today's date. I want to list upcoming events, but clearly they are not upcoming if they have already passed. I have: @appointments = Event.find(:all, :conditions => ['move_id = ? Trying to randomize the order of presentation during the experiment, I need to maximize the distance between the 4 display of the same original stimuli. • Is it possible to make a (Windows 7) executable automatically run when I put in my thumb drive?

  I have portable apps on a thumbdrive, and want to automatically run the "menu" app (E:\Applications\Windows\Start.exe) when I insert that drive. I realize (or think I realize, based on a foggy memory of trying to find a way to do this some time ago) that it can no longer be done with the old autorun approach, at least not in Windows 7. But there must be some other way: maybe a daemon process that waits for the thumbdrive to be inserted, and then fires up the .exe file? Maybe a daemon that tries every five minutes or so to launch the menu, and doesn't make a fuss when it's not there. Maybe something else? How can I achieve this?

• Thunderbird very slow with Gmail

  I'm using the latest version of Thunderbird with 3 Gmail accounts. Every time I launch it it seems it's downloading all my messages again. I've compacted folders (is the action working for the 3 accounts or do I need to do it for each of them?) and deleted the .msc files but nothing change. It leads to a software using a lot of bandwidth and being very slow when using it. It's a pain to write a message or even to view one. All the software is so slow I've never seen that it's almost unusable. I'm using thses addons : Dictionary Google Calendar Lightning My Gmail accounts are configured to imap.

• Citrix XenApp application does not have keyboard focus when launched

  On new or existing Citrix XenApp 4.5 servers, I am having problems streaming the Allscripts Pro EHR application via the XenApp web interface. When users launch the application via the Citrix XenApp web interface, the application does not have focus, preventing users from typing in their username and password. If they use their mouse to select either the username or password fields, they still cannot enter any text. However, if they do any of the following actions, they can then enter in their username and password and the application runs without problems: Click on the Login button with empty fields. Logon fails but they can then enter their credentials. Minimize the login window and then maximize it. They can then gain keyboard focus to enter their credentials. What might be preventing this particular application from having focus when it launches?

  Background Most installation toolkits have the ability to launch, automatically or otherwise, external programs after installation. This is often appears in the installer via such options as "Show readme", or "Start program". Issue The problem is, many of these installers are poorly coded, and do not drop permissions appropriately, for example, opening the application's homepage in the browser... launching the browser with the installer's Administrative privileges, or a "High" UAC integrity level. This has the potential to open up security breaches, by opening up a webpage (and possibly browser addons), that are now running with elevated permissions. Question The question is: Is there a way to prevent certain applications (such as a web browser) from ever being launched with Administrative privileges, i.e., an automatic drop-privilege?
