    Running "powercfg -energy" under Windows 7 command line, I received a report with following three errors: System Availability Requests:Away Mode Request The program has made a request to enable Away Mode. Requesting Process \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmpnetwk.exe CPU Utilization:Processor utilization is high The average processor utilization during the trace was high. The system will consume less power when the average processor utilization is very low. Review processor utilization for individual processes to determine which applications and services contribute the most to total processor utilization. Average Utilization (%) 49.25 Platform Power Management Capabilities:PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) Disabled PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM) has been disabled due to a known incompatibility with the hardware in this computer. I was wondering for the first error, what does "enable away mode" mean? for the second, what utilization percentage of CPU is reasonable? for the third, what is "PCI Express Active-State Power Management (ASPM)"?     For years I'm using some antivirus software and different firewall. Now every antiviruses have got some firewall features and there are complete "internet security" complexes... and every firewall get some antivirus functionality and there are "internet security" versions. Firstly, it is hard and sometimes impossible to install and use standalone AV and FW. Sometimes I can't avoid them (i can't install KAV2010 without removing Outpost firewall etc). Secondly, complex solutions have some disbalance. Farewall from famous antivirus-brand is so user-friendly that is not suitable for me (lack of details in Norton Internet Security for example) and antiviruses from famous firewall-brands are still weak, it is proved by tests. What is today best-practices in case of functionality and security?) Some internet-security complex or two standalone applications from different vendors?

Do I also need and anti-static screw box? It has holes that screws get put in. Will I need magnetic screwdriver to pull screws out?

    I'm trying to compact a MS-Access database using JetComp.exe using a powershell script. Here is the operative lines: # 4. Run JetComp LogWrite("Begin: Running JetComp") .\JETCOMP.EXE -src: $srcDB -dest: $dstDB | Out-Null #Run this command and wait for it to finish... IfErrorExit("Error Compacting Database") LogWrite("End: Running JetComp") The JETCOMP.EXE program seems to complete long before it is actually finished and the $dstDB ends up being smaller than the compact should even make it. Initially ($srcDB) it's about 1.8 GB and by the time the command finishes it's about 300,000 kb (about 0.29 gb) that's a pretty long way off from 1.8 gb which when compacted manually ends up being about 1.6 gb. Is there some sort of timeout I don't know about in powershell scripts? P.S. I know that when running JETCOMP.EXE manually, that the system often detects it as "not responding" even though it's actually getting the job done, and waiting long enough will allow it to complete.

I tried to activate the remote management from osx server then use remote desktop login from windows(failed) Tried to activate built in vnc server from osx server then use vnc client from windows(failed) tried to install osxvnc server(vine server) on osx then use either tightvnc or ultravnc on windows (connects but after sometime disconnect) PS. I would prefer a free software for both servers.

    I'm trying to find some tool that helps me monitor several things. What are some requirements: Shows results on a web page. Checks existence of files/folders Checks sizes of files/folders Can parse xml files Can have several status depending if it's for instance, after 9pm Ping workstations/Servers to ensure they are on or off create daily/weekly/monthly reports (pdf, html, csv) show daily/weekly/monthly scheduled tasks check if specific users are logged in a machine check which users are logged in in a machine I've looked into some solutions but could not find what I wanted. Usually tools like nagios are more focused in servers, and spiceworks is not so specific. At this point I'm using a little powershell script that does several of these items, but before losing more time probably reinventing the wheel, what tools are out there? Thank you in advance.

  • DB2 LUW tools for diagnosing issues when the stuff hits the fan

    I am no DBA and very much a novice when it comes to DB2 so even 'obvious' answers are welcome to this question: I love db2top but sometimes I cannot get it to run if the load average is high on a db2 LUW. This morning I was looking at an issue where load average shot up suddenly, I could not get db2top to come up and I needed to find out what was happening. What can I do to find out who is doing what in this situation? I suspected a horribly bad query was being run by someone...is there a good way to find information on poor performing SQL on the fly in that type of situation? Are there any good ways to collect good, actionable stats who/where bad sql is coming from in the event that load average is so high? I know about db2pd but I am not sure how to use it effectively and slogging through tens of thousands of lines of raw data is probably not the most efficient way to get at the heart of a problem. Any tips or resources?

    Hi all, I have a terminal server, with a bunch of users running MS Office 2007 std in. Some of them have recently been asking for better multilanguage support. Since I'm in a select agreement, I've gone into the Volume Licensing Service Center and downloaded the following three ISOs: Office Multilanguage Packs 2007 (DVD) Office Multilanguage Packs 2007 (CD) Office Multilanguage Pack 2007 Service Pack 1 But having mounted the ISOs in my RDS host, I still can't install anything they contain. I am quite probably doing something wrong, or maybe I need to be running Office pro version? please F1

    Hey people, What's the best method to take an exact copy of my external hard disk? A guru suggested rsync, but I was wondering if there's an easier alternative. I do remember reading somewhere that Acronis also does this. Was looking for your advice on the best option. I'm running Windows. Essentially i have an external HDD which has a lot of stuff synchronized across various pcs. I wish to take a backup of this external Hard disk (ext.HDDs aren't entirely reliable so want to keep a backup of my ext.HDD). Cheers. K

    How to stop blanking screen although I am active on Ubuntu Karmic on old IBM Laptop 600E? After some time of working on the machine the screen goes blank. When I hit ESC on the built-in keyboard (not on the attached USB keyboard where I work) it comes back and everything works fine until the next screen-blanking. I suspect it is some power management issue. When I use an old keyboard that has a ps2 connector it does not happen. So my guess is that the usb keyboard does not update the power management timer that detects when the session was last used? I am using fluxbox window manager. I do not want to disable power management because it is nice that the fan only works at the necessary speed (the fan spped is regulated which I can hear) But I could disable power management for testing purposes.

Recommended action Contacted HostPapa and they deny that there is any issue with the site / server!!! Support in terms of what I can do to actually resolve this issue is non-existent!!!! The site is currently online. And I don't know much about DNS... so any advice about what I can do to resolve this problem would be much appreciated.

    (Parallels Desktop 9, latest version) As per instructions, I switch to root: $ su - root $ whoami root $ echo $EUID 0 and then execute the installer: $ cd /media/cdrom0 $ ./install and I get this error: sudo: unable to execute ./install: Permission denied What? I'm root! What's with this? I double check to make sure the execute bit is set: $ ls -lA | grep install$ -r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 17284 Oct 25 09:22 install Yep. People online are saying that you need to drag the install script to the terminal after typing sudo. So I do that, and this command is what's formed: $ sudo '/media/cdrom0/install' sudo: unable to execute /media/cdrom0/install: Permission denied What's the solution here?

I'm not looking for a full production log system like Splunk, but something that's a little more flexible than an ssh terminal doing a "tail -f". Perhaps something that will: * Monitor multiple log files to my local machine for searching/analysis later * Allow "alerts" when certain strings appear in the log * Provide some kind of tabbed/dashboard view of the multiple logs being monitored (in total less than 10 logs).

Support create recording templates, so I can customize some high/low quality recording. The downside are it requires to open the streaming radio in browser and can't have another sound source.
