Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server with installed licenses will not go beyond 2 connections

I installed the Terminal Server role in Windows Server 2003 Standard 64-bits. Still, only 2 connections are allowed. The License Manager says that there are 10 Device CALs available, which is correct, and that none are given out. For good measure I let the server reboot, to no effect. Before this, there was another server (same Windows, except that it is 32 bits) active as a licensing server. I removed the role first and then then added it to the new server. I then removed the Terminal Server Licensing Server component off the old one and added it to the new one. After that, I added to licenses. When that didn't give the required result, I rebooted to new server. Still, the new server, with licenses and all, acts as if it has the 2 license RDP. The server are all stand-alone, there is no active directory been set up. Both servers are in different workgroups.

Sending emails from PHP - email providers vs GAE

I need to send emails from my social service (this is continuation of Experiences in mailing to registered users). I got strong feeling that it's better to avoid problems with email server configuration and maintance and to choose email provider which will take care of all painful problems. So several offers were compared: http://imgur.com/JkK2X.jpg Three of them look very attractive: Postageapp / Sendgrid / CritSend As alternative i'm considering setup GAE app. Email provider is quite easy to start work with, but have no idea how much effort require GAE to integrate with PHP. So my question is: which option is better to choose: email provider GAE ? Two factors are important here: business background (therefore prices are mentioned), work required to setup and maintain desired solution. Preferably i would love to avoid all email-related problems (like black lists and so on).

Create files on C:\ root gives error 0x80070522

One of our customers has just found a problem when trying to create a file on the root of the C:\ Drive, on a Windows 7 Professional PC. I know they shouln't be keeping files here, but there is a valid reason in this case, so I've relaxed the security on the root of C:\ by giving the group 'users' modify permission. Before I relaxed the security, the user was receiving 'access denied', but now they are receiving the message: An unexpected error is keeping you from creating the file. If you continue to recieve this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x80070522: A required priviledge is not held by the client. Googling for this suggests that it is caused by UAC, but how can I get round this when the user doesn't have admin rights on their PC?

Intranet Site Authentication Issues on SBS 2008

Hello, Simply, the Sharepoint intranet site that is automatically installed with SBS 2008 is bound to port 5555 in IIS so to get to it you can browse to server-name:5555 and then authenticate using domain credentials. I have added another binding on port 80 using a host header so intranet.localdomain.local (and added the required record in the DNS). This works fine from any computer on the domain, you can go to the nicer address and authenticate no problem. However, when you browse to the port 80 binding on the local server it reaches it but fails to authenticate. I cannot figure out why and it is really annoying. Not essential to fix but it would be nice. Any ideas? Michael

We have the following requirements for three Ethernet switches that will be connected together: Allow the switches to connect together to form dynamic, arbitrary topologies, i.e., support for the RSTP is essential. Allow the physical topology (which ports are connected together) to be gleaned from the switches, e.g., using SNMP traps. This is optional, but would be very useful. At least 5 ports on each switch, but only 3 will be used for connecting the switches together. Be as compact as possible. Ideally be in stock, in the UK. Only 100Mb/s is required. (This question is the result of the lack of RSTP support from 3Com NJ225 devices, as described in my previous question.)

Google Talk Chat/Conference Solutions

I started using the old confbot python conference script in 2005 for my family. This essentially implements an IRC like conference room over Google Talk (or any Jabber/XMPP server). It has significantly increased family communication, and has become rather indispensable due to this. Recently it's begun to have severe problems (people can't see each other in the conference room) which has nearly killed the usefulness of it. Before I develop my own software or debug confbot (probably not - it uses an older jabber library that hasn't been updated since 2003) I wanted to see what other solutions exist that meet our needs: Supports Google Talk (Sorry, I'm not going to try to convince everyone involved to move to a new IM or other client) Free and open source (ideal, but not required) Runs on Windows (Not a web service run by someone else) Implements basic functionality such as kick/ban, emotes Remembers who joined the conference room across restarts Obeys Do Not Disturb and Busy status Archives all activity -Adam

Pros and cons IPV6 vs stretched vlans

I'm having a hard time finding information about whether implementing ipv6 or using a stretched vlan is a better option for geographically dispersed sites is better. Does anyone know: Problems with stretched vlans (mac address broadcasting etc) costs for devices to solve those problems pros for using IPv6 instead EDIT. What I am looking for is pros and cons against implementing the equipment required to implement stretched IPv4 vlans vs simply using IPv6 to solve the same problems. Eg admins stretch vlans instead of route because protocol X can't be routed, but IPv6 can encapsulate protocol X so there is no need to worry about that problem.

OpenLDAP and Samba, can't log onto Samba share from Windows

The former jackass IT-guy that I'm taking over for had a Samba share setup on a Fedora server that uses our OpenLDAP server to authenticate users who want to log in from Windows. We recently added a new employee and I jumped through the LDAP hoops to add them to the system. However, I can't seem to use their login to access the Samba share. I'm looking through the LDAP settings and Groups and comparing the new user account to existing ones, and I can't figure out what settings in LDAP are required for this user to be able to access the Samba share. Of course the former idiotic IT-guy didn't document a single thing and has all sorts of weird setups on the network. So I'm at a bit of a loss on knowing what to look for here. Where should I start? On the server that is hosting the Samba share, he has samba running obviously but also has smbldap-tools loaded as well.

Google chrome asking for username and password for OWA

Hi, i have a question about the google chrome browser. When i navigate to my work's Outlook Web Access site to read my emails, the chrome browser is prompting me for a username and password to the server saying "Authentication Required - the server XXXXXX.XXX:443 requires a username and password. After i put them in i then have to enter in the normal OWA username and password to access my emails as per normal. The funny thing is.. 1] If i click CANCEL on the first dialog it takes me to the OWA screen and i can log in normal anyway. However - subqeuent page clicks will keep prompting me each time for the server credentials. 2] I am NOT prompted for server UN and PW if i use IE or fireFox. Does anyone know how to stop chrome from asking me each time? or is it a server setting - i do know that a friend who uses the same browser (chrome) and also OWA does not have the same problem (NB: they work at a different company) Thanks!

I need to get VMWare Server running inside of a VMWare ESXi virtual machine

Yes, I know running a virtual machine inside of a virtual machine is a bad idea. Yes, I know it will be very slow. However, our production system required VMs in VMWare server and I do not want to setup a real server for each of our developers for testing. I would like to be able to setup all of the VMWare servers (that mimic our production environment) on one ESXi server. I have found as much info as I can about this topic and I have tried what was suggested here and here. I have not been able to get any of these suggestions to work, I still get the VM cannot run inside of a VM error. If there are any other suggestions that anybody else have that would be great thanks.

Sudo yum seems to fail on CentOS, but works fine after sudo -i

I am currently having some trouble with yum through sudo. For some reason, it does not seem to work: aron@graviton [/var/log]# sudo yum clean all There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was: /usr/lib64/python2.4/lib-dynload/datetime.so: failed to map segment from shared object: Cannot allocate memory Please install a package which provides this module, or verify that the module is installed correctly. It's possible that the above module doesn't match the current version of Python, which is: 2.4.3 (#1, Sep 3 2009, 15:37:37) [GCC 4.1.2 20080704 (Red Hat 4.1.2-46)] If you cannot solve this problem yourself, please go to the yum faq at: http://wiki.linux.duke.edu/YumFaq The strange thing, however, is that it works fine when I gain root privileges through sudo -i first. Any ideas what might be causing this problem?

In reference to my previous question: I can't find the appropriate firmware for my NETGEAR WGT624 v2 router. I went on the dd-wrt web site and I read the wiki, but I didn't see any files or instructions on how to change the firmware. The router database lists my router, but as I said: no files. In addition the "Supported" column lists "wip", what is wip? Router Database 4 routers found Manufacturer Model Revision Supported Activation required Netgear WGT624 v1 wip no Netgear WGT624 v2 wip no ... The only thing listed for my router on the dd-wrt web site is: Router details Chipset: AR2312A RAM: 16 MB FLASH: 4 MB Additional information * OpenWRT Wiki: Netgear WGT624 * Unbrick procedure Is the router supported? Libvirt installation - Centos

I am currently using Centos 6. I want to use the latest version of libvirt (libvirt 0.9.4). The machine already has libvirt 0.8.1 installed . I did yum remove libvirt to remove the existing libvirt and I compiled 0.9.4 from source using : ./configure --prefix=/ make make install ldconfig /etc/init.d/libvirtd start After the installation is complete, I wanted to use the virsh interface. Once I enter virsh , I get : virsh /lib/libvirt.so.0: version 'LIBVIRT_PRIVATE 0.8.1' not found (required by virsh) Can somone let me know how to solve this issue? Remove Dell Openmanage from Windows 2008

I have installed Dell Openmanage Server Agent 4.2.2 on Windows Server 2008. I need the newer version, so I need to install this version first. However, outside some registry references pointing to sources that aren't there, there is little or no trace of it being installed. For example, no trace of the program files or an entry in Prgrams And Features. Still, installing a newer version keeps coming up with an older version that needs to be removed first. When I try to install version 4.2.2 to repair and eventually remove it, it gives an error: Dell Openmanage Server Agent - Error An error was encountered while testing machine type. Failure openingen required handle to .DLL. Dell Openmanage Server Agent cannot continue the installation. Setup will exit now. I haven't found anything using different parts of the error messages as search terms.

What's the most efficient way to reclaim disk space after deleting lots of data from a database on Sybase ASE 15?

As I understand it, based on some research but zero real-world experience with Sybase ASE, the only way to reclaim disk space once it's been allocated to a database is to export that database, create a new DB with the same schema, and reload all the exported data to the new database. Is this correct, or is there some other method? Then: assuming the above is correct and a full export-recreate-reload is required, what's the most efficient way to do that? Are there tools that will automate all or part of that process? I'm being told we would have to write separate bcp export and import commands for each and every object in the database, which if true sounds easily scriptable by someone who knows Sybase ASE well enough. (I don't.) This seems to me like a really basic housekeeping task, and it feels like I'm missing something obvious.

Renaming the account was simple using Local users and groups management tool. After renaming the user, the user home folder was not renamed and I could not find any information about how to change user home folder. I found the ProfileList registry folder but maybe there is a command line for doing such changes. HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

How to configure Apache so all requests go to single CGI file

I'm porting a CGI application from an embedded web server to run under Apache. In the effort of changing the least amount required I'm trying to figure out how to configure Apache so any requests coming in go to my CGI program, which then will use the QueryString environmental variable to determine which file needs to be created. I have Apache working now to where it will process my CGI file if it's requested directly i.e. localhost/cgi-bin/cgi_test.out but I need to figure out how to get my application to be called whenever any file is requested: localhost/ - call my application with QueryString set to "" or "/" localhost/thisFile - call my application with QueryString set to "/thisFile" etc. I have been doing all of my configuration testing under /etc/apache2/sites-available/mysite, which has been enabled and the default disabled. Thanks for any help. I've tried the recommendation from here: http://serverfault.com/questions/56082/configure-apache-to-handle-all-requests-via-single-index-php but I keep getting circular redirects.

Windows Cannot Boot - 0xc0000225

I've had Windows 7 installed for months on my Thinkpad T60 laptop and today out of the blue when I tried to boot, it started the Windows loading screen and immediately I got this error: Status: 0xc0000225 Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. Through some research, I see people get this problem when a repartitioning goes wrong or there's a problem with their dual boot. I'm not dual booting my machine and I haven't messed with my partitions since I installed the OS. This error is truly out of the blue. I've run memory diagnostics from a Windows boot disc and hard drive diagnostics from my BIOS and neither found a problem. I don't have any backups to restore from so I'm hoping to find a fix for this. Anyone seen this kind of thing before? Thanks

mod_fcgid: stderr: PHP Fatal error with Plesk 11.5.30 and php-pear

Just upgraded to Plesk 11.5.30 and found out that sending SMTP emails with php pear aren't working anymore with following error message: mod_fcgid: stderr: PHP Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required 'Mail.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear') in /var/www/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/check.php on line 4 I know in the new Plesk 11.5 they changed the structure of all vhosts, but the strange thing is that require_once('System.php') placed into the same directory and file is working correctly with no errors and is returning bool(true). Any hints where I could have a look with this mod_fcgid error when require_once('System.php') is working but require_once('Mail.php') isn't working?

Howto WCF Service HTTPS Binding and Endpoint Configuration in IIS with Load Balancer?

We have a WCF service that is being hosted on a set of 12 machines. There is a load balancer that is a gateway to these machines. Now the site is setup as SSL; as in a user accesses it through using an URL with https. I know this much, the URL that addresses the site is https, but none of the servers has a https binding or is setup to require SSL. This leads me to believe that the load balancer handles the https and the connection from the balancer to the servers are unencrypted (this takes place behind the firewall so no biggie there). The problem we're having is that when a Silverlight client tries to access a WCF service it is getting a "Not Found" error. I've set up a test site along with our developer machines and have made sure that the bindings and endpoints in the web.config work with the client. It seems to be the case in the production environment that we get this error. Is there anything wrong with the following web.config? Should we be setting up how https is handled in a different manner? We're at a loss on this currently since I've tried every programmatic solution with endpoints and bindings. None of the solutions I have found deal with a load balancer in the manner we're dealing. GnuPG PHP gnupg Folder & Files Permission

Situation: we plan on using PHP's GnuPG extension to encrypt/decrypt files. Currently we've setup some test cases, using keys generated with GPG. The generated files reside in: /Users/username/.gnupg/ I am able to get keyinfo for the key I want to use to encrypt/decrypt, but when I attempt to use addencryptkey, I get: (E_WARNING: 2): gnupg::addencryptkey() [gnupg.addencryptkey]: get_key failed I think this is due to the permissions on the ~/.gnupg folder & enclosed files. The files are owned by me - username, but apache runs as www. A few days ago I did have this working, but it seems each time I use GPG Keychain Access to import / export a key, the folder's permissions are changed. Question: What are the exact permissions required to allow PHP's GnuPG to add encrypt & decrypt keys?

upgrade glibc on RHEL4 without breaking anything

I have a static version of wkhtmltopdf which requires glibc-2.4 wkhtmltopdf: /lib/tls/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by wkhtmltopdf) I have apt installed with the DAG repos. Other than that the server is pretty stock standard except for Coldfusion MX7. My question is, is it safe to just "apt update glibc"? Will the updated glibc clobber the old one or will they co-exist? Should I "apt upgrade" the whole server? I'm pretty sure everything else (Apache2, Postgres8, etc) will handle the upgrade but Coldfusion concerns me due to its proprietry nature.

setup Zyxel USG 20W as L2TP VPN Server

I've a Zywall USG 20W (wireless disabled) behind a router supplied by the ISP. All ports (both TCP and UDP) on the ISP router are forwarded to the 20W. I'm trying to configure an L2TP VPN to be used by Windows Xp / 7 with Microsoft native client. This was working before with a different firewall, so I'm pretty sure that all the required packets are flowing to the 20W. I followed a tutorial from the italian Zyxel Website, but I cannot get the VPN to work. Always cannot pass phase 2, and I see the following on the log: [ID]: Tunnel [Default_L2TP_VPN_Connection] Phase 2 local policy mismatch Phase 1 goes fine. In Windows the error is always 788. This happens regardless the proposals I set in the phase 1 and 2 setting. What should I check ? Is there any way to get more detailed diagnostic info (policy mismatch is too generic) ? How do I run a non-service program as a service on Windows 2008 Server?

I found this page that tells me how to set up Windows Live Sync as a background service on Windows 2003 Server, unfortunately the resource kit tools for 2003 that are mentioned does not work on 2008 server. http://mswhs.freeforums.org/windows-live-sync-as-a-service-on-whs-t623.html Also, apparently there is no resource kit tools downloadable for Windows 2008 Server that I can find. Perhaps someone has a link to the relevant tools? (INSTSRV.EXE and SRVANY.EXE.) Using just plain SC.EXE doesn't work as I assume that the program is then required to be a normal service, and not just any executable. What other options do I have? Can I use the task scheduler on 2008 server to start the WindowsLiveSync executable, will that work? I need the executable to stay running even after I've logged off from the server.
