• One project in Delphi 2007 doesn't show procedure name in the IDE Obj Inspector's Events

  I have a Delphi project in 2007 that doesn't show the procedure names in the Object Inspector's Events such as Form OnClose, OnCreate or OnShow in the IDE. The code is there and if you click on OnCreate (for example) you are taken to the code and the IDE fills in the name of procedure. However on reload, the procedures are missing from the IDE again. This same project causes various error messages when Delphi closes also, but I am not sure if this is related (no other project developed under this Delphi does but this one is the largest app and uses several 3rd party add-in libraries). I have moved this app to various Delphi 2007 installations and it reacts the same, so it isn't a corrupt Delphi situation. Is there any way to rebuild or fix a corrupt project like this? Any help would be appreciated.

• Continous Build Integration with SourceSafe and Windows Batch Files

  I want to create a continuous build integration system for .NET using just Windows batch files and Visual Source Safe. I've come up with the following batch file so far - set ssdir=\\xxxx\vss cd d:\mydir "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual SourceSafe\ss.exe" diff "$/sourcedir" -R -Q > diffout.txt This will spit out a file containg lines like "SourceSafe files different from local files" when a change has been made. My challenge is to figure out if those lines are in the file, then do a get and kick off MSBuild if they are. I'd then schedule the batch file to run every 10 minutes or so. Anyone got any thoughts on how to do that? Or any other ways of doing continuous build integration without downloading a complicated build automation system? Update: Happy to use cscript or powershell too, though not really familiar with those environments. My main aim is to avoid installing 3rd party software

• ASP.NET MVC 3 - What features do you want to see?

  I know a bunch of people that are really enjoying the improvements that ASP.NET MVC 2 made over the first release. I have just started to migrate our MVC 1 project over and so far areas has totally cleaned up the subfolder mess we had in our large scale application. As I dive deeper into all the improvements and changes that were made I still keep thinking to myself man it would be nice if they had x in this release. For isntance, I would love it if they had some sort of dependency injection built in instead of having to use third party solutions. My real question is now that ASP.NET MVC 2 is out in the wild, what features do want/wish the team had implemented and hope they will implement for ASP.NET MVC 3?

• How to convert a plist file from mac os project to iphone project?

  I am developing an app for the iPhone OS devices, and am using a third-party engine which is not well documented but I've made great progress with it anyway. The problem: The engine's developer strongly urges extending from the existing template projects bundled with the engine, but the engine's plist files are Mac OSX project plist files. This is an iPhone engine, and so I cannot understand why the plist file is structured to take keys for Mac OS apps, but that's how it is. I did a FileMerge comparison to ensure there was nothing within the file itself that defined its use for one OS or the other, so I guess it's defined somewhere in the project settings.

• compare previous ENCRYPT() call with new ENCRYPT() call mysql

  I'm storing a string in mysql with the ENCRYPT() function. I want to fetch a row where that string is matched, but the new ENCRYPT() call gives me a different value, so they never match. This is expected as i'm not (and can't) give it a consistent salt: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/encryption-functions.html#function_encrypt If no salt argument is given, a random value is used. This is the query i'm running that returns empty: SELECT * FROM `table` WHERE ENCRYPT('string') = `enc_string` I know this is possible because this is used by a 3rd party app, but I can't find their query where they do this. Is there a way to force ENCRYPT to use the previous salt, or predict it?

  I have three menus on this test web site. I am learning css and trying all the menus inherit all properties from menu class. The second one looks different and is not clickable. I am happy with the 3rd one, just want to make it horizontal and change its position bit. Could somebody tell me why the second menu is not click-able? how I can make the third menu vertical? I thought that display: block; for li of the 3rd menu would do the trick but I do not know the css path for that li.

  Constructor for PHP's exception has third parameter, documentation says: $previous: The previous exception used for the exception chaining. But I can't make it work. My code looks like this: try { throw new Exception('Exception 1', 1001); } catch (Exception $ex) { throw new Exception('Exception 2', 1002, $ex); } I expect Exception 2 to be thrown and I expect that it will have Exception 1 attached. But all I get is: Fatal error: Wrong parameters for Exception([string $exception [, long $code ]]) in ... What am I doing wrong?

• Polymorphic association in reverse

  Let's say that I have two models - one called Post and one other called Video. I then have a third model - Comment - that is polymorphically associated to to each of these models. I can then easily do post.comments and video.comments to find comments assosciated to records of these models. All easy so far. But what if I want to go the other way and I want to find ALL posts and videos that have been commented on and display these in a list sorted on the date that the comment was made? Is this possible? If it helps I'm working on Rails 3 beta.

• How many repositories should I use to maintain my scripts under version control?

  I mainly code small programs for myself, but recently, I've been starting to code for my peers on my team. To that end, I've started using a Mercurial repository to maintain my code in some form of version control (specifically, Tortoise-Hg on Windows). I have many small scripts, each in their own directory, all under one repository. However, while reading Joel's Hg Tutorial, I tried cloning a directory for one of my bigger scripts to create a "stable" version and found I couldn't do it because the directory wasn't itself a repository. So, I assume (and please correct me if I'm mistaken) that in order to use cloning properly, I'd have to create a repository for each script/directory. But.. would that be a "good idea" or a future maintenance nightmare waiting to happen? Succinctly, do I keep all my (unrelated) scripts in one repository, or should I create a repository for each? Or some unknown third option?

I have a problem when Travis CI run multiple python tests (of the The Travis CI Build Matrix) concurrently. To that effect, I am trying to find an algorithm that can be used for the said purpose. For example, given - - a -, the algorithm will search a dictionary for all the words which have length 4 and have 'a' as the third letter. Is there such an algorithm already?   i am using the following code to read the details from a network folder which is restricted for only one user shell("net use q: \\serveryname\foldername /user:admin pwrd", AppWinStyle.Hide, True, 10000) Process.Start(path) shell("net use q: /delete") when i run this to open any pdf or jpg or any other files except word/excel/powerpoint, everything is working fine. but the problem comes only when i access a word file. in the step one, i am giving permission to access the word file. in the step two, word file is open. in the third, i am deleting the q drive. the problem is the word file is still open. so i am getting a dos window, saying that "some connections of still connected or searching some folders, do you want to force disconnect" please help.... how to access a word file (editable files) providing user name and password from the code and at the same time he shoud not have access to any other folders directly.

I have read the wikipedia post, but still find it hard to explain the concept to none developers. "Design a database in a way not to get duplicated data" is the first thing that comes to mind. • Java, filling arrays, and inheritance

  Hi folks, I think I'm running into an inheritance conceptual wall with my Java arrays. I'm kind of new to Java so please tell me if I have things upside down. In essence, I want to do three things: Create a runnersArray with the attributes of my Runners class. Fill my runnersArray using my GenerateObjects method of my GenerateObjects class. Access the contents of my filled runnersArray in my Evaluating method of my Evaluating class. The problem seems to be that runnersArray is not visible to the methods in steps 2 and 3 above, but their classes (due to design reasons) cannot inherit or extend Runners class. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.   I have an example function below that reads in a date as a string and returns it as a date object. If it reads a string that it cannot convert to a date, it returns an error. testFunction <- function (date_in) { return(as.Date(date_in)) } testFunction("2010-04-06") # this works fine testFunction("foo") # this returns an error Now, I want to use lapply and apply this function over a list of dates: dates1 = c("2010-04-06", "2010-04-07", "2010-04-08") lapply(dates1, testFunction) # this works fine But if I want to apply the function over a list when one string in the middle of two good dates returns an error, what is the best way to deal with this? dates2 = c("2010-04-06", "foo", "2010-04-08") lapply(dates2, testFunction) I presume that I want a try catch in there, but is there a way to catch the error for the "foo" string whilst asking lapply to continue and read the third date?

  I'm new to threads. I'm using a 3rd party library that uses threads which at times call a procedure I've provided. How do I update update a TLabel.Caption from my procedure when its called by the thread? If I've called InitializeCriticalSection elsewhere, is it as simple as EnterCriticalSection(CritSect); GlobalVariable := 'New TLabel.Caption'; LeaveCriticalSection(CritSect); And then in my main thread: EnterCriticalSection(CritSect); Label1.Caption:= 'New TLable.Caption'; LeaveCriticalSection(CritSect); But, how do I get the main thread code to be called? The thread can use SendMessage? Or is there some better/easier way (.OnIdle could check a flag set by the thread?) Thanks.

I dont understand how it works:http://code.google.com/apis/accounts/docs/OpenID.html#Samples If i do that 2nd request by entering the data as one url with params into browser i get back XML file. Should i not get back sample response nr3? Can somebody explain this to me? The problem is, that im trying to sort through some third party app that uses google openid authentication and its not recieving authenticated users e-mail back, like in sample response 3.   I have a given XML document (structure can not be changed) and want to get the comments that are written above the nodes. The document looks like this: <!--Some comment here--> <attribute name="Title">Book A</attribute> <attribute name="Author"> <value>Joe Doe</value> <value>John Miller</value> </attribute> <!--Some comment here--> <attribute name="Code">1</attribute> So comments are optional, but if there is one, I want to get the comment above each attribute. Using /*/comment()[n] would give me comment n, but for n=2 I would naturally get the comment of the third attribute, so there is no connection between attributes and comments Any ideas? Thanks

  Hi guys, I've got a WCF service (basicHttpBinding, basic authentication, IIS 6.0) on which I want to restrict the number of calls per hour - on user basis. For example, max 1000 calls per user, per hour (a la Google Maps, etc). I also want to implement some sort of subscription mechanism, so that users can upgrade their call-limit across various 'price plans'. I know that I could achieve this with a custom Inspector, backed by a DB containing some sort of 'subscription' table and a counter, but I'd like to avoid reinventing the wheel. Does anyone have experience doing this? Are there 3rd party projects/libraries that support this out of the box? Thanks. Eric

• How to troubleshoot dependencies not copying.

  I have an EXE project A, which references a class library project B (all in the same solution). Project B has a reference to about 10 3rd party DLLs (from DevExpress). All the referenced assemblies have Copy Local set to true. When I build the entire solution, the resulting DLL from project B is copied into the bin/debug of project A. However, none of the dependencies of project B get copied. I looked in the Output window during compile and all looks good. There aren't any errors. How do I troubleshoot this?

• 'sript/console test' with spork and rspec not loading the whole environment?

  I'm trying to load up console to interact with some of my rspec mocking helpers. I expected that running script/console test would load an env similar to when I run spec. However, this doesn't appear to be the case. It looks like spec_helper is never loaded. Or, if it is, it's not actually running through the logic because spork has polluted it a bit. In short, is there a quick and easy way to get an interactive rspec party going?
