  Should the URL of a page match its title? For example: Http://example.com/about-cats.html <title>About Cats</title> Furthermore, if that title were to be changed by the page's author, should the URL change to match and the old URL be redirected (301) to the new URL? Edit Also, if the pages author were to decide to revert his changes after several days, would it be right to remove the redirect and set up an new redirect from the amended URL back to the old URL?

• Does a system exist to facilitate virtual meetings and file sharing?

  I'm looking for a system that is similar to an online classroom setup but allows for virtual meeting rooms with video/audio conferencing, and of course file sharing. I'm preferring an open source solution that I can edit/tweak myself as needed, and is of course free. Ultimately, I guess what I'm looking for is something that we could possibly tweak to give our own "branded" look and feel, if possible, along with full integration within our own servers. Thus the reason I brought up open source solutions. Do you masters of the web know of such a system available? If so, do you have a preferred one that you would suggest? OR, can such a system be developed by slapping together a couple of open source projects to derive at what is desired? Thanks for sharing your expertise. (FYI - I am a developer that is comfortable with PHP and C#. I'm not experienced with Ruby or Python, but a system using them or something else is acceptable. We can figure it out I'm sure.)

  I'm creating a fairly large site. Will my links appear spammy if I use the same word as in the pathfile in the url? For example: www.example.com/apples/great-apple-recipes www.example.com/apples/fresh-apple-pie www.example.com/apples/delicious-apple-turnovers I do not want my link to appear spammy. But is it ok if the keyword is almost always the same as in the pathfile on a huge site? Does the pathfile count as part of the keyword? Also, how many words in total should a url (including pathfile etc...) be?

• Is it time to add IPv6 access to my websites?

  I have several dedicated servers and VPS servers, and some of those are at companies that have provided me with native IPv6 blocks (in addition to the IPv4 IP addresses). Does it currently make sense to point an AAAA record to an IPv6 address on my server, in addition to the A record pointing to the IPv4 address? This would be for (for example) the www subdomain. (the networking and web server software would be set up on the server to respond appropriately). A while ago I read that a small percentage of users (1 in a thousand?) would have slow or no access if a subdomain had both A and AAAA records because their networking software asked for one and got the other. Is that still the case, will adding an AAAA record inconvenience some users, or is the percentage already smaller and falling? In other words, is now the time to get around to adding native IPv6 support for a busy website aimed at the general public, or is it still too early?

• How to modify Dreamweaver's SpryMenuBar.js to send a msgbox on what menu was clicked?

  I have a simple HTML webpage made in Dreamweaver with a SpryMenuBar. When I click on a menu item, I want to send a pop up message box that says which menu item was clicked. (This is not really my objective but once I can learn to hook into the spry java script with a mouse click listener I can try to do what I am really after.) The problem is for some reason I can't seem to get started with this seemingly simple task. Does anybody know how to revise the SpryMenuBar.js to make a msgbox showing the item that was clicked? For example if I click a menu that say's 'Contact us', I wan't to throw a message box that says "You pressed, Contact us". Note: My final objective is to actually call another function that changes text in the center of my page, depending on what menu item was clicked.

  I've been using GoDaddy to manage about 50 domain names for a few years, but recently decided to move (probably to namecheap) because of the elephant killing incident. One GoDaddy's feature I like a lot is Consolidate, which allows you to change the expiration date of domain names for a small fee. I've searched for a while but didn't find any other registrar that provides this feature. Does anyone know if there's a registrar that allows you to change the expiration date of domains? Thanks!

  Im looking for the best practice to let Google know about a vast number of dynamically created content. Let's say (I mean - dream) that I'm Facebook, and I want to let Google to index all the users' posts. Sitemap.xml may be the answer for this but they are limited to 50,000 URLs in each site map. I know that I can create 500 sitemaps and create a sitemap for sitemaps, but they are also limited, 25,000,000 URLS sounds quite enough at the moment, but could cause problems in the future. I.E - stackoverflow already has 3 Million posts, probably sitemap is not the solution for them. Creating a page with paging, and links to all the dynamic data. i guess this is what stackoverflow did by creating this page here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions So I think that Option 2 is the answer, but it seems to me that sitemaps might have some added value. So what should i do?

  I find the W3C's official Offline Web Applications specification to be rather vague about how the cache manifest interacts with headers such as ETag, Expires, or Pragma on cached assets. I know that the manifest should be checked with each request so that the browser knows when to check the other assets for updates. But because the specification doesn't define how the cache manifest interacts with normal cache instructions, I can't predict precisely how the browser will react. Will assets with a future expiration date be refreshed (no matter the cache headers) when the cache manifest is updated? Or, will those assets obey the normal caching rules? Which caching mechanism, HTTP cache versus cache manifest, will take precedence, and when?

• Should I use mod_wsgi embedded mode if I have full control of Apache?

  I'm managing a bunch of sites and applications in a shared hosting, using Django via mod_wsgi. I had planned to use daemon mode from the beginning (to avoid restart problems), but ended up purchasing a plan that allows me to run a dedicated Apache instance. I kept using daemon mode for convenience, but I'm afraid it's consuming more server resources than it should (I have different projects for each site, each with its own process and process group), so I'm considering switching to embedded mode. Would that be a sensible thing to do? I'd still be able to restart Apache anytime I need to, and I wouldn't need so many child processes and sockets (so I hope the resource usage would decrease). But I'm unsure whether or not doing so would make it more difficult to manage those sites (if I need to update one, I have to restart all) or maybe the applications won't be properly isolated from one another. Are these problems really significant (or only a minor nuisance), are there other drawbacks I coudn't foresee? I'm looking for advice in any aspect of this setup - mainainability, performance, security etc. Tips for improving the current setup are also welcome (I know how to correctly configure a basic mod_wsgi setup, but I'm clueless about sensible values for threads, processes etc).

  This is my first question, I hope to do it right! I'm creating a custom report in G.A. because I have implemented the typical custom variable to track logged/anonymous users. To do it I choose the "unique table" type, 2 dimensions values (custom variable key and value) and visits metrics scope. When I generate the report, some strange, unknown variables appears!   here is my scenario i have a website where i redirect my users basing upon the device they were using, lets say a user is visiting from an iPad, i take him directly to the page of iPad wallpapers, the user selects iPad version & i take the user to the gallery of wallpapers where the user can select & download any wallpaper. Every wallpaper is the required resolution, i have my reasons for doing this, now the thing is there are diff. resolution. versions of an image appearing one 5 diff. sections of my website, each having their own view page Now there is only one record in db.table for the image, and basing on the my consistent naming convention of the images, i pick the required image. this means when 5 different pages are generated in 5 categorized sections of the website, due to a shared DB record, the keywords, the titles and every single detail of the 5 pages is same besides the resolution of the image, and the section specific details that the page has and yeah the pages also have different paths like wallpapers.com\ipad-1\cars\Ferrari-dino.html wallpapers.com\ipad-2\cars\Ferrari-dino.html wallpapers.com\ipad-3\cars\Ferrari-dino.html wallpapers.com\ipad-4\cars\Ferrari-dino.html wallpapers.com\ipad-5\cars\Ferrari-dino.html now this is my scenario, How do Search Engines see it and how do they rank it? • webmaster tools 500 crawl error for asp faceted navigation that does not exist

  i am getting 2,500 type 500 url errors in google webmaster tools. These pages are faceted navigation results that can not be reached by a site visitor. These pages do not exist. We are using faceted navigation with the Volusion platform (asp.net, I think). I have specified url parameters in webmaster tools so that google will not try to index anything faceted. This does not stop the errors from generating. I am concerned about how this might effect seo (bleeding page rank). I can provide additional information if needed. I am not sure how to solve this. I have started down the path of creating 301's, but having some difficulty there as well.

Googling for that name produces various results of people who've concluded that it doesn't respect robots.txt (eg, http://www.0sw.com/archives/96). I'm considering updating my app to have a list of banned user-agents, and serving all requests from those user-agents a 400 or similar and adding GSLFBot to that list. Is that an effective technique, and if not what should I do instead? (As a side note, it seems weird to have an abusive scraper with a distinctive user-agent.)

  We use Amazon's CloudFront CDN with custom CNAMEs hanging under the main domain (static1.example.com). Although we can break this uniform appearance and use the original whatever123wigglyw00.cloudfront.net URLs to utilise HTTPS, is there another way? Do Amazon or any other similar provider offer HTTPS CDN hosting? Is TLS and its selective encryption available for use somewhere (SNI: Server Name Indication)? Foot note: assuming that the answer is no, but just in the hope someone knows. EDIT: Now using Google App Engine https://developers.google.com/appengine/docs/ssl for CDN hosting with SSL support.
