In other words, if someone is listed on the officer table, s/he is listed on the board table and the member table. I want to find out the highest privilege level someone has.   I'm writing a web crawler for a specific site. The application is a VB.Net Windows Forms application that is not using multiple threads - each web request is consecutive. However, after ten successful page retrievals every successive request times out. It seems strange that it always happens after ten consecutive requests. Notes: In the constructor for the class in which this method resides I have the following: ServicePointManager.DefaultConnectionLimit = 100 If I set KeepAlive to true, the timeouts begin after five requests. All the requests are for pages in the same domain. EDIT I added a delay between each web request of between two and seven seconds so that I do not appear to be "hammering" the site or attempting a DOS attack. However, the problem still occurs.

And, after some typing, I can get a data.frame whose columns are characters rather than factors. So my question is: how can I do this automatically? How do I convert a data.frame with factor columns into a data.frame with character columns without having to manually go through each column? Bonus question: why does the manual approach work?

• Suggestions on how build an HTML Diff tool?

  In this post I asked if there were any tools that compare the structure (not actual content) of 2 HTML pages. I ask because I receive HTML templates from our designers, and frequently miss minor formatting changes in my implementation. I then waste a few hours of designer time sifting through my pages to find my mistakes. The thread offered some good suggestions, but there was nothing that fit the bill. "Fine, then", thought I, "I'll just crank one out myself. I'm a halfway-decent developer, right?". Well, once I started to think about it, I couldn't quite figure out how to go about it. I can crank out a data-driven website easily enough, or do a CMS implementation, or throw documents in and out of BizTalk all day. Can't begin to figure out how to compare HTML docs. Well, sure, I have to read the DOM, and iterate through the nodes. I have to map the structure to some data structure (how??), and then compare them (how??). It's a development task like none I've ever attempted. So now that I've identified a weakness in my knowledge, I'm even more challenged to figure this out. Any suggestions on how to get started? clarification: the actual content isn't what I want to compare -- the creative guys fill their pages with lorem ipsum, and I use real content. Instead, I want to compare structure: <div class="foo">lorem ipsum<div> is different that <div class="foo"><p>lorem ipsum<p><div>

  Hi all, I have the following codes in my page. This is how I want my report to come up. On the x-axis, there will always be three items as long as at least one of them has values. If an item does not have any values (i.e. 2010), there would not be a marker in the chart. The problem occurs only when only one item has value. Please see http://www.monteandjanicechan.com/chart_bad.jpg. As you can see, 2008 and 2010 do not have any values; y-axis is now scaled from 0 to 100. I have tried setting one of the items (ex. 2008) a value of 0 or something off the chart; it would scale according to this off-the-chart value and the 2009 value. In short, I have to have at least two items with values between 20 and 100 in order for cfchart to scale from 20 to 100. My question is, how can I correct the issue so that cfchart would ALWAYS scale from 20 to 100? I am running CF9. Thanks in advance, Monte

• Does this use of Monitor.Wait/Pulse have a race condition?

  I have a simple producer/consumer scenario, where there is only ever a single item being produced/consumed. Also, the producer waits for the worker thread to finish before continuing. I realize that kind of obviates the whole point of multithreading, but please just assume it really needs to be this way (: This code doesn't compile, but I hope you get the idea: // m_data is initially null // This could be called by any number of producer threads simultaneously void SetData(object foo) { lock(x) // Line A { assert(m_data == null); m_data = foo; Monitor.Pulse(x) // Line B while(m_data != null) Monitor.Wait(x) // Line C } } // This is only ever called by a single worker thread void UseData() { lock(x) // Line D { while(m_data == null) Monitor.Wait(x) // Line E // here, do something with m_data m_data = null; Monitor.Pulse(x) // Line F } } Here is the situation that I am not sure about: Suppose many threads call SetData() with different inputs. Only one of them will get inside the lock, and the rest will be blocked on Line A. Suppose the one that got inside the lock sets m_data and makes its way to Line C. Question: Could the Wait() on Line C allow another thread at Line A to obtain the lock and overwrite m_data before the worker thread even gets to it? Supposing that doesn't happen, and the worker thread processes the original m_data, and eventually makes its way to Line F, what happens when that Pulse() goes off? Will only the thread waiting on Line C be able to get the lock? Or will it be competing with all the other threads waiting on Line A as well? Essentially, I want to know if Pulse()/Wait() communicate with each other specially "under the hood" or if they are on the same level with lock(). The solution to these problems, if they exist, is obvious of course - just surround SetData() with another lock - say, lock(y). I'm just curious if it's even an issue to begin with.

• Stream Reuse in C#

  I've been playing around with what I thought was a simple idea. I want to be able to read in a file from somewhere (website, filesystem, ftp), perform some operations on it (compress, encrypt, etc.) and then save it somewhere (somewhere may be a filesystem, ftp, or whatever). It's a basic pipeline design. What I would like to do is to read in the file and put it onto a MemoryStream, then perform the operations on the data in the MemoryStream, and then save that data in the MemoryStream somewhere. I was thinking I could use the same Stream to do this but run into a couple of problems: Everytime I use a StreamWriter or StreamReader I need to close it and that closes the stream so that I cannot use it anymore. That seems like there must be some way to get around that. Some of these files may be big and so I may run out of memory if I try to read the whole thing in at once. I was hoping to be able to spin up each of the steps as separate threads and have the compression step begin as soon as there is data on the stream, and then as soon as the compression has some compressed data available on the stream I could start saving it (for example). Is anything like this easily possible with the C# Streams? ANyone have thoughts as to how to accomplish this best? Thanks, Mike

Which is the fastest access type between those two ?   I have noticed that there are quite a few community wikis about "Tips & Tricks" or "Hidden Features" in programming languages and APIs here at Stack Overflow. But I could not find any about my own personal favourites: Win32 API and Delphi. Therefore I start my "own" CW about Win32 API. There are (at least) two kinds of Win API users: those that have been brought up using Windows API in C/C++, and those that have been brought up using some level of abstraction above the Windows API. I belong to the latter category, being brought up using Delphi's VCL. But over the last five years, I have become increasingly interested in the underlaying API of the Windows operating system, and today I work a lot with it. Depending on which category a programmer belongs to, he (or possibly she) will think that different things are "cool" in the Windows API. For instance, whereas a VCL-brought up developer might think it it very cool to var errIcon: HICON; begin errIcon := LoadIcon(0, IDI_ERROR); DrawIcon(Canvas.Handle, 10, 10, errIcon), a programmer brought up using Windows API in C will not be as impressed. But no matter how you are "brought up": what are the coolest "tricks" in Windows API? I start by listing a few of my own favourites, some of which are more "cool" than "useful", though: LoadIcon and MessageBeep can load/play system default icons and sounds. Open the CD tray: mciSendString('Set cdaudio door open wait', nil, 0, 0); Fade out the screen (Windows Vista and later) and turn of the monitor: SendMessage(Application.Handle, WM_SYSCOMMAND, SC_MONITORPOWER, 2); GetWindowDC(GetDesktopWindow) returns the DC of the desktop.

• Crystal Reports - export to pdf in MVC

  Hi folks, I have integrated the below code in my application to generate a 'pdf' file using crystal reports in MVC project. However, after the request is processed, i get to see only 2 pages in the pdf file while my 'data' returns more than 2 records.   OK it has unfortunately been a while since I've used REGEX and I am struggling to wonder why its not working with my project. I have used Regex Tester which says my two tests are valid but when it comes to testing in my project they get rejected. 1) Check the text starts with certain characters [RegularExpression("(spAPP)",ErrorMessage = "Stored procedures must begin with spAPP")] This seems to accept spAPP on it's own, but not something like spAPPabcdef which I want it to. I am struggling to find the "Ignore rest of the text" attribute with REGEX. 2) A bit more complicated. I have certain naming conventions for AD groups, so an example would be "UK ROLE IT APPLICATION DEV ADMIN", up to the role name there are standards (so I need the "UK ROLE IT APPLICATION DEV" checked. [RegularExpression(@"((UK|FRANCE|GERMANY|USA)\s(ROLE)\s(IT|NON-IT)\s(APPLICATION)\s(DEV|TEST|LIVE))", ErrorMessage = "Please use AD naming standards.")] I think it might be the fact I am using () around all the words, but its easier to read in my code. The RegexTester I found seems to indicate that it's right, but again, in my .NET project, it rejects it. Thanks,

A transaction can be on only one LCT, yet this one is pointing to two: Okay computer, both of those LCTs point to an MAL and the transaction that created them, show me those: Those last two transactions, they also point at an MAL, and they themselves point to an LCT, show me those: Okay, now are there any entries in LCTTrans that point to LCTs 4358 or 4359?... And so on, and so on. Now i did all this manually, running single selects, copying and pasting uniqueidentifier keys and converting them into friendly id numbers so i could easily see the relationships. • LaTeX book class: Twosided document with wrong margins

  I am trying to write my thesis in latex... Cannot get the layout straight though :? I'm using the following document class: \documentclass[11pt,a4paper,twoside,openright]{book} My problem is: on the odd numbered pages there is a big margin right, and a small margin left - it should be the other way round... (for binding & stuff) I am a little puzzled by this - am I just to stupid to see the obvious? The odd page numbers appear on the 'right' page of a bound document, so there needs to be a larger margin left for bindin. Right? Why does LaTeX not behave like this? The trigger compiles and all and even worked one time, but it was the only one. I've inserted or updated my prec_total_if in item_fornecimento in sqldeveloper, but the order's (fornecimento) total still not change :(. If it's important, my f.total_enc_fornec it's null until it's replaced by a value inserted by this triggers; it prints the output, but it seems to fail updating.

  i have written a simple stored procedure (run as job) that checks user subscribe keyword alerts. when article posted the stored procedure sends email to those users if the subscribed keyword matched with article title. It was working fine for last 3 months but a week before it behaved unexpectedly. The problem is that it sends irrelevant results. The @String contains user alert keyword and it matches to the latest articles using Full text search. The normal execution time is 3 minutes but its execution time is 3 days (in problem). Now the current status is its working fine but we are unable to find any reason why it sent irrelevant results. Note: I am already removing noise words from user alert keyword. I am using SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition.
