• Suggestions for debugging print stylesheets?

  I've recently been working on a print stylesheet for a website, and I realized that I was at a loss for effective ways to tweak it. It's one thing to have a reload cycle for working on the on-screen layout: change code command-tab reload but that whole process gets much more arduous when you're trying to print: change code command-tab reload print squint at print-preview image open PDF in Preview for further inspection Are there tools I'm missing out on here? Does WebKit's inspector have a "pretend this is paged media" checkbox? Is there some magic that Firebug (shudder) can do?

• IE6 - body shrink on hover / z-index change

  I'm debugging a site to make it work for IE6 (god, please, let this be the last time). I've gotten pretty far with getting the the layout look right. There's just one more thing bugging me. Some elements like links, when they get hovered, the body of the site shrinks. I have built a dropdown with javascript. When it should show, the body of the site shrinks. There is a slideshow, made with javascript, which changes the z-index of the images, everytime it changes the z-index, the body shrinks. Now I found some information that IE6 creates this specific shrinking behaviour when using a fixed position element. But this is not the case. Someone here have some ideas for solving this? Thanks!

• Something like Crystal Reports for PHP?

  I'm looking for something that works in PHP and is similar to crystal reports. I basically need to have a layout setup that means I can output invoices just by inserting the data, and then send it to a printer. The closest I've found so far is PDFB, but It's a bit of a pain as it needs to have precise positioning. I'd like to have something that could generate an invoice based on a template (preferably XML based) and then output it to a form easy for us to print (PostScript would be nice!) It needs to have support for barcodes too (though these can be generated as a GD image) Another requirement is that this must be FLOSS

  Before I delve into it, I'm very new to Android and I have just started learning Java last month. I've hit bumps while trying to develop my first simple app. Most of these hurdles were jumped thanks to random tutorials online. MY CODE IS VERY MESSY. Any tips are appreciated. The question above is quite broad, but this is what I want to do: It's a essentially a blood alcohol content calculator / drink keeper-tracker. The other variables in the Bac formula have values assigned to them in Global.java. The other elements of the formula (weight, time spent drinking, and the alcohol %'s and such) are variables because I will ultimately allow the user to change those values in the settings. I've heard around the water cooler that global variables are not good programming style, but this is the closest I've come to getting it to work. Any other ways of doing it are very much welcomed!

  I have a data frame where one particular column has a set of specific values (let's say, 1, 2, ..., 23). What I would like to do is to convert from this layout to the one, where the frame would have extra 23 (in this case) columns, each one representing one of the factor values. The data in these columns would be booleans indicating whether a particular row had a given factor value... • Spark View Engine: How to set default master page name?

  I use Spark View Engine with nested master pages. I have Application.spark which defines the basic layout of the website. Then there are several other masters which themselves use Application.spark as master page (Default.spark, SinlgeColumn.spark, Gallery.spark, ...) If no master page is specified in a view file, then automatically Application.spark is choosen by the Spark View Engine. Since almost all my pages use "Default.spark" as master, is there a way to configure this globally? The other possibilities would be: Set the master in each spark file individually <use master="Default" />. But that's really annoying. Rename my master files (Default.spark <- Application.spark) but that really doesn't make any sense in naming.

• rdlc - phantom page break, what to check?

  I have a RDLC report which has some controls on the first page, which are inside a rectangle and which display ok. Beneath the rectangle, i have a matrix, which spans more than one page both in width and in height. I want the matrix to start rendering on the second page. If I enable "insert break before" on the matrix, there is an extra blank page before the matrix(in print layout), which is my problem. If I reduce the amount of data, so the matrix does not span more than one page in width, there is no blank page, and all is well. I checked the Page and Body sizes, they are ok. Any tips? This has been driving me crazy all day, what can I check? Thx

• git-svn on subset of large svn repo

  repo layout: a/1 a/2 a/3 ... b/1 b/2 ... c/1 c/2 ... git-svn works perfect for me if I work on 1 svn repo subdir. But right now I'm facing the need to work on several subdirs (like, a/1, a/2, and b/1), and there's much shit in repo besides them. I've managed to write a regexp for this, but git-svn with --ignore-paths seems to check each file's name against this regexp, instead of skipping entire folders, so it's too slow. /* Probably I should file a bug report about this */ So -- any ideas of handling this? If some Mercurial svn agent can do selective clones, it's OK too, but I'd better stick with git. My another idea was some selective svn proxy, but I haven't succeeded in googling anything like that.   here is my mysql and php code layout: -i have 3 tables -tableA stores unique "person" information -tableB stores unique "places" information -tableC stores not unique information about a person and places they have "beenTo". here is how i layed out my form: -one big form to insert into "person" tableA; "beenTo" tableC in the form, a person mulitple selects "places" which get inserted into "beenTo" my question is, when i am editing a "person" how do i display what the user has already selected to appear on my multiple select options drop down menu? my drop down menu at the moment query "places" table and displays it in a multiple select drop down menu. its easier when a person have beenTo one place, the problem arrises when there is more than one "beenTo" places? any ideas. thanks

• What are the "Navigation Properties" in this data model for?

  I've been wondering how to properly set up many-to-many relationships in ASP.NET MVC 2 using Linq2Sql for quite some time now. I found this blog post that seems to have a similar model layout as mine. If you take a look at the first screenshot showing the data model you can see that each model has "Navigation Properties" at the bottom of it. What exactly is this and why don't my models have them? I have the proper foreign keys put in to place. Most specifically, I am looking at the relationship between the Article and Category models since that is the only many-to-many relationship that I see and that's what I'm trying to model. Obviously I use an intermediary joining table between these two tables but I am having trouble understanding the proper methodology for modeling that relationship and I'm not finding this information anywhere on The Google.

  Hello all. I have a serious problem in my flex client applications. I have an apache server with php web services. the flex client makes an httpservice requests. I noticed that the httpservice requests that runs from the creationComplete event of the application does not always get data from the server. but HTTPservice requests called from user actions always work.   Hello all: I'm an iPhone developer, but new to web development. I've done some basic HTML websites and made one in iWeb as well. I'm trying to branch out to actual mobile development now, so I checked out Dashcode. Anyway, I'm trying to put a Call Button, Mail Button, and Map Button in horizontal alignment. I realize that I can add a Column Layout and have two buttons in a row, but that's the most I've gotten. Any ideas? Thanks! Thomas

• How to go to the next level integrating animations in WPF applications with Blend / VS2008?

  I have been able to create little animations with the storyline in Blend. And I have been able to copy in the isolated storylines and triggers into existing projects in visual studio to spruce them up on the edges a little bit. But after adding too many animations, they start to conflict or cancel each other out, etc., or I can make a panel slide down and slide it back up, then it no longer can slide down since it is not in its original state anymore. Does anyone have any links, video tutorials, books, resources which not only show you how to make a little animation and then leave you to figure out how to integrate numerous animations into a typical business application layout, but instead take you through the whole process of building a business application while integrating animations and WPF goodness with Blend and Visual Studio?

• Dynamic size canvas with Scroll bars

  Hi, I am developing a simple WPF application without any auto layout. The goal is when a user clicks (mouse down) a element (say textBlock) will appear at the location of the mouse click. For this I am using canvas panel embedded in a Grid of 1 row, 1 column and scrollviewer (visible). The issues are: 1. when the application window is resized the scroll viewers do not become active. 2. I want the ability to auto grow the canvas with mouse drag. Something like in MS-Excel when user drags the mouse horizontally/vertically the canvas should grow. I have searched net a lot to figure this out and am unable to get an answer. Any help in this regard would be great. Thanks a bunch in advance. -P
