  • Will a standard CMS on a shared web hosting account work for this?

    I have two questions concerning CMS's that I need answered if possible: I need to create a site with a Database. This site will in due time have lots of traffic and many users if things go as planned. Is it better to have the CMS on a shared web hosting account or is it better to have a dedicated server for this? The site I want to create needs to be able to create groups where each group has its own admin. The admin of the group decides the content that each member can view/access. The information of one group can be shared to other groups as well. This means that only the information content is shared but not the group's member data. Should I use a single or multiple databases for this problem? Is this something that can be done using standard CMS systems out there. or should I try to build one myself?

  • How can I make a program (using SDL) built on Ubuntu work on other systems?

    Hi there, I'm writing a program that uses OpenAL. When I link against it (I'm using CMake), it also links against libpulse - PulseAudio. This results in the binary not working on other systems. Can I somehow not link against PulseAudio and still use OpenAL on Ubuntu? Edit: I just figured something out: It's not OpenAL that's dragging PulseAudio in, it's SDL. Is there anything I can do about that?

  • How to make show desktop work only on the current workspace?

    I am an active user of workspaces in Ubuntu. Until recently, pressing Ctrl+Alt+D (show desktop) acted only on the current workspace. For example, one might want to minimize the applications in the current workspace, open a file, and then bring some of them back. The current implementation works on all workspaces uniformly which is counter-intuitive to me. The reason for the existence of workspaces is the separation of logic -- one can have a browser open in one workspace, a text editor in another, a terminal in a third. The current functionality goes against this idea. Is there a way to restrict the action of the show desktop command to a single workspace only?

Our senior programmers have knowledge of how to do this, Although - I would like to know how you could go from converting a eLearning course from Flash into a application for Mac and PC, looking similar to Garageband's music lessons? What programming language was used to create Garageband on Mac? What is the best way to create a application that will work on PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Touch etc, Rather then using flash and Actionscript to create online based applications, that will only work in a browser on Mac and PC? Feature 1 – Set up Work Items Queries as Team Favorites The task board looks cooler when the team favourite work item queries show up on the task board. The demo setup console application now has the ability to set up the work item queries as team favorites for you. If you want to see how you can add Team Favorites programmatically, refer to this blogpost here. Image 1 – Task board without Team Favorites Let’s see how the TFS Demo Setup application sets-up team favorites as part of the run… Open up the DemoDictionary.xml and you should be able to see the new node <TeamFavorites> this accepts multiple <TeamFavorite>. You simply need to specify the <Type> as Query and in the <Name> specify the name of the work item query that you would like added as a favorite. Image 2 – Highlighting the TeamFavorites block in DemoDictionary.xml So, when the demo set up application is run with the above config, work item queries “Blocked Tasks” and “Open Impediments” are added as team favorites. They then show up on the task board, as highlighted in the screen shot below. Image 3 – Team Favorites setup during the TFS demo setup app execution Feature 2 – Choose what you want to setup and exclude the rest I had a great feature request come in requesting the ability to exclude parts of the setup at the sole discretion of the executioner. To accommodate this, I have added an attribute with each block, the attribute “Run” accepts “true” or “false”. If you set the flag to true then at the time of execution that block would be considered for setup and if you set the flag to false, the block will be ignored during the setup. So, lets look at an example below… The attribute "Run” is set to true for TeamSettings, Team Favorites, TeamMembers and WorkItems. So, all of these would be setup as part of the demo setup application execution. Image 4 – New Attribute Run added to all blocks in DemoDictionary.xml If I did not want to recreate the team and did not want to add new work items but only wanted to add favorites and team members to the existing team “AgileChamps1” then I could simple run the application with below DemoDictionary.xml. Note – TeamSettings Run=”false” and WorkItems Run=”false”. Image 5 – TeamFavorites and TeamMembers set as true and others set to false Feature 3 – Usability Improvement If you try and assign a work item to a team member that does not exist then the application throws a nasty exception. This behaviour has now been changed, upon adding such a work item, the work items will be created and not assigned to any user. The work item id will be printed to the console making it simple for you to assign the work item manually. As you can see in the screen shot below, I am trying to assign the work item to a user “Tarun” and a user “v2” both are *not valid users in my team project collection* so the tool creates the work items and provides me the work item id and lets me know that since the user is invalid the work item could not be assigned to the user. Better user experience ae Image 6 – Behaviour if work item assigned to users are in valid users in team project That’s about it for the current release.   • Why would cat6 connectors not work with cat5e patch cable?

    I had a naff batch of cat5 connectors (the latching mechanism didn't work) so decided to order in some cat6 connectors in preparation for the inevitable upgrade. My existing reel of for making patch cables is cat5e utp stranded. I made up a few cables and tested them- none of them worked. I recrimped and still nothing. When i check them with a multi-meter not all pins are connected. This reel has always worked with the previous cat5 connectors so I tested the cat6 connectors on a reel of solid cat5e cable and they work fine. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Or what might be at fault? (cable/connectors) and how I can diagnose? Thanks Lee

  • Any way to get P4V to work with older servers?

    I use P4V as a Perforce client. I updated to 2009.1 to get some major bug fixes, and it seems they removed the ability to connect to older clients. I do work for a few clients, and 5/6 depots I have to work with are new, but one is older (2002.2 I think). Does this mean that not only I can't get any more bug fixes because 1 of 6 servers is old, but now I'm completely locked out of that server since the older P4V clients are no longer online? I know the 2007.x version I used before works with the old servers, but I can't find it online. Please tell me I'm not SOL... The Visual Studio integration is part of the P4V package, not the P4Win package, so if something isn't fixed I might never have VS support for P4 again. Help :(

  • Is it possible to make the Numpad 5 button work as the Numpad Down button while Num Lock is on?

    I hope someone can help me out with this; I use a laptop and I like to play games a lot that are arrow key dependent. So after a while of using my laptop, I accidentally broke the Down Arrow key. So I decided to try and find out how to make the Numpad5 button work as the Numpad Down button while Numlock is on. I was trying to use AutoHotkey, but so far I've had no luck. Can anyone help me out with this? So far the scripts I used that didn't work were Numpad5::NumpadDown or Numpad5::Down. Am I doing something wrong here?

  • How to make Shared Keys .ssh/authorized_keys and sudo work together?

    I've setup the .ssh/authorized_keys and am able to login with the new "user" using the pub/private key ... I have also added "user" to the sudoers list ... the problem I have now is when I try to execute a sudo command, something simple like: $ sudo cd /root it will prompt me for my password, which I enter, but it doesn't work (I am using the private key password I set) Also, ive disabled the users password using $ passwd -l user What am I missing? Somewhere my initial remarks are being misunderstood ... I am trying to harden my system ... the ultimate goal is to use pub/private keys to do logins versus simple password authentication. I've figured out how to set all that up via the authorized_keys file. Additionally I will ultimately prevent server logins through the root account. But before I do that I need sudo to work for a second user (the user which I will be login into the system with all the time). For this second user I want to prevent regular password logins and force only pub/private key logins, if I don't lock the user via" passwd -l user ... then if i dont use a key, i can still get into the server with a regular password. But more importantly I need to get sudo to work with a pub/private key setup with a user whos had his/her password disabled. Edit: Ok I think I've got it (the solution): 1) I've adjusted /etc/ssh/sshd_config and set PasswordAuthentication no This will prevent ssh password logins (be sure to have a working public/private key setup prior to doing this 2) I've adjusted the sudoers list visudo and added root ALL=(ALL) ALL dimas ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL 3) root is the only user account that will have a password, I am testing with two user accounts "dimas" and "sherry" which do not have a password set (passwords are blank, passwd -d user) The above essentially prevents everyone from logging into the system with passwords (a public/private key must be setup). Additionally users in the sudoers list have admin abilities. They can also su to different accounts. So basically "dimas" can sudo su sherry, however "dimas can NOT do su sherry. Similarly any user NOT in the sudoers list can NOT do su user or sudo su user. NOTE The above works but is considered poor security. Any script that is able to access code as the "dimas" or "sherry" users will be able to execute sudo to gain root access. A bug in ssh that allows remote users to log in despite the settings, a remote code execution in something like firefox, or any other flaw that allows unwanted code to run as the user will now be able to run as root. Sudo should always require a password or you may as well log in as root instead of some other user.

  • What PHP, Xdebug and Eclipse configurations work on Windows 7 64 bit?

    I have been mucking around for days, trying to find the right combination that lets me debug with breakpoints and variable viewing, in Eclipse, without crashing Apache. PHP 5.3? PHP 5.2? Eclipse Helios? Eclipse Galileo? One or the other with certain versions of xdebug or php? Or do I really need to use NetBeans or something else? Is my 64 bit OS the problem? Do need specific 64bit versions of PHP, Eclipse or Xdebug to work on Windows 7 64? Any special xdebug config options and tricks that I need in php.ini? Like turning off xdebug.profiler_enable or not using quotes around my zend_extension path to the xdebug dll? A Vhosts issue? Scrap the whole thing and go back to Win XP or Ubuntu? The "secret ingredient"? Thanks! I miss my debugger since I got a new laptop with Win 7! Sadly it looks like some of the drivers (switchable graphics, multi-touch pad, etc) on my lappy don't work right with Ubuntu yet, so I feel a bit trapped on Win :( I know I will figure something out eventually, but I've been at this trial-and-error game a while and am seeking some guidance.   • Is there a work around to configure brightness or color on a DisplayLink monitor?

    I run 3 monitors in addition to my laptop display at work - two of the monitors are using DisplayLink adapters. I've always thought that all my displays were too bright (and possibly give me headaches?) - even after I reduced their brightness as far as possible using the monitor menus and the nvidia software control panel. Recently I installed f.lux - I love it's "halogen" color profile which has improved my life considerably. The problem is that f.lux has no effect on/will not adjust the color & brightness of my two DisplayLink monitors. F.lux has a faq (#4 under troubleshooting) that addresses this - saying DisplayLink has no support for color calibration so f.lux only works with monitors "directly connected to your computer". Does anyone know of a work around? Specifically a way to use windows color management/profiles (or some other software) to adjust the brightness/color tone of DisplayLink monitors?     I'm trying to use a USB keyboard with my Ubuntu laptop, but when I plug in the keyboard, it is not even detected. I am trying to use the Apple Slim Aluminum Keyboard. It would also be nice if the USB ports on the keyboard could work, but I can get by without that luxury. How can I get my Apple Slim Aluminum Keyboard to work with Ubuntu? Update: After upgrading to a newer version of Ubuntu (9.04 Jaunty), the keyboard was detected and types just fine. There are a few quirks like the clear button being used as the numlock key but that seems to be well documented on other sites.

  • Power cut during Ubuntu upgrade to 10.04 - boots to command line, apt-get and dpkg do not work.

    I was upgrading Ubuntu to 10.04, when a tripswitch tripped, cutting power to the computer. When it was restarted, it booted into a command line prompt. Google tells me to try: sudo dpkg --configure -a This gets me a lot of output that ends with a list of packages. I can't tell you what the output is, as piping the output to more/less does not work (still just all scrolls by and moves to next prompt), and redirecting it to a file just results in an empty file. Google also suggested: sudo apt-get install -f This also didn't work. Is a fresh install the only solution at this point?

    I have an HP Compaq TC4400 and I recently was able to make most of the Tablet PC functions work in Ubuntu 9.10. (The step-by-step guide can be found in my blog.) Unfortunately I have yet to make the jog dial work. This would be particularly useful for scrolling up and down websites and documents when the TC4400 is in slate mode (with no access to the keyboard). I would be much obliged if anybody could tell me: How to find out the input button/key assignment that Ubuntu 9.10 has for jog-up and jog-down; How to assign jog-up to scroll up (D-pad key UP, or PAGE UP) and jog-down to scroll down (D-Pad key DOWN, or PAGE DOWN). I am using xbindkeys to assign different shortcuts to the quick launch buttons, perhaps I could use the same program for the jog dial? I would have done that, except I do not know how to find the proper button/key assignment for xbindkeys to use. Thanks in advance!

  • What are the requirements for gettings django translations to work?

    Hi, I am hosting several djangosites on a CentOS 5 box. But I'm having difficulties with translations. So first i had to upgrade the gettext package from 0.14 to 0.16, but that didn't help. Now i can make and compile tranlsations files with the managment commands, but the translations does not show. I am sure that the translation files are located at the right place since they work with the same setup on a local installation, and django's own translation files does not work. (e.g the admin is not translated). What could i be missing in my server setup that makes this happen?

  • Why would changing httpd.conf work for me, but .htaccess would not? [closed]

    I have html files which contain PHP. When I use filename.php they work great. When I use filename.html the entire file renders as plain text. If I add the following line to my .htaccess, the file still appears as plain text. AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .html But ... if I add the the exact same line to my httpd.conf, then PHP renders my page correctly. What are some possible explanations as to why the .htaccess would not work for me? I'm using apache OS X, Snow Leopard.

    I have a Macbook Pro at work and installed the current VirtualBox (3.2.4) today. However, after using the VHD image for IE 7 on XP SP3 on this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=21eabb90-958f-4b64-b5f1-73d0a413c8ef&displaylang=en The Virtual Operating System (XP) just thought there is no network card provided by the PC (the virtual PC simulated by VirtualBox), even if I set up 4 network cards in Settings, as NAT, host only, etc. So the XP cannot browse any webpage at all... Does any integration package need to be added for VirtualBox to make it work and how? (is VirtualBox providing a "too advanced" network card so XP SP3 doesn't have the driver for it? thanks.
