• (php) how to properly 'save' info in forms completed thus far

  So i have a form that on paper is 40 pages long. I was going to take the natural sections of this form, and make separate html forms for each section, with the idea that on the first page there would be a first form, then you hit 'Continue to next section' which essentially is the 'submit' button, which moves the user to section two, etc, until they hit the last section. i am not actually storing the results of the form in a database, but rather sending an email. the idea then is to store the separate form answers (one html form per section in the real form) as arrays or objects in the session, so that if they go back to a section in the form, it repopulates the values they entered since they are stored in the session. the result would be an array in the session storing the results for each of my forms, and i have one form for each section. my question is: is it secure to temporarily store things like SSNs or driver's license numbers as session variables? why or why not?

• How I do I make controls/elements move with inertia?

  Modern UI's are starting to give their UI elments nice inertia when moving. Tabs slide in, page transitions, even some listboxes and scroll elments have nice inertia to them (the iphone for example). What is the best algorythm for this? It is more than just gravity as they speed up, and then slow down as they fall into place. I have tried various formulae's for speeding up to a maximum (terminal) velocity and then slowing down but nothing I have tried "feels" right. It always feels a little bit off. Is there a standard for this, or is it just a matter of playing with various numbers until it looks/feels right?

• Loop over a file and write the next line if a condition is met

  Having a hard time fixing this or finding any good hints about it. I'm trying to loop over one file, modify each line slightly, and then loop over a different file. Yes, I am sure the if has true cases. :-) "seqres.txt" has lines with an ID number in a certain format, each followed by a line with data. The "ids.txt" has lines with the ID numbers of interest in a different format. I want each line of data with an interesting ID number in its own file. Thanks a million to anyone with a little advice!

• How do I name an array key with a key inside the array

  I have some data, yes, data. This data came from a MySQL query and it will always contain 4 items, always. I want to cache that data in an array table for use later within a web page but I want to keep the keys from the query and separate out each grouping within a multidimensional array. However to save time iterating through the array each time I want to find a given group of data, I want to call the keys of the first array the same as the ID key which is always the first key within each four items. At the minute I'm using this code: function mysql_fetch_full_result_array($result) { $table_result=array(); $r=0; while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)){ $arr_row=array(); $c=0; while ($c < mysql_num_fields($result)) { $col = mysql_fetch_field($result, $c); $arr_row[$col -> name] = $row[$col -> name]; $c++; } $table_result[$r] = $arr_row; $r++; } return $table_result; } I'm currently testing this using 3 unique users, so I'm getting three rows back from the query and the data from this function ends up in the format: [0]=> . . [id] => 56 . . [name] => random name . . [tel] => random tel . . [post] => post code data So how do I alter the code to instead of the keys [0], [1], [2] give me the output: [1]=> . . [id] => 1 . . [post] => post code data I don't mind if the main array keys are strings of numbers rather than numbers but I'm a bit stuck, I tried changing the $table_result[$r] = $arr_row; part to read $table_result[$result['id']] = $arr_row; but that just outputs an array of one person. I know I need another loop but I'm struggling to work out how to write it.

• C++ input chaining in C#

  I am trying to learn C# coming from C++. I am writing just some basic console stuff to get a feel for it and was wondering if it is possible to do simple chaining of inputs in C#. For example in C++: cout<<"Enter two numbers: "; cin >> int1 >> int2; You could then just input 3 5 and hit enter and the values will be fine. In C# however I have to split it up(as far as I can tell) like this: Console.Write("Enter the first number: "; int1 = (char)Console.Read(); Console.Writeline(""); Console.Write("Enter the second number: "; int2 = (char)Console.Read(); Maybe I am just missing something.

• Formatting code snippets for blogging on Blogger

  My blog is hosted on Blogger and I frequently post code snippets in C / C# / Java / XML etc. but I find the snippet gets "mangled". Are there any web sites that I could use to parse the snippet beforehand and sort out the formatting, convert XML "<" to "<" etc. There are a numbers of questions around this area on SO but I couldn't find any that address this question directly. Edit: For @Rich answer, site states "To display the formatted code on your site, you need to get this CSS stylesheet, and add a reference to it in the section of your page". That's the problem - you can't do this on Blogger AFAIK.

Or even a regex which could give me a tidy array like: (labour => 18909, liberals => 12365, conservatives => 14720) Oh i wish i had the time to figure out regexes!   Guidelines for code-golf on SO We've all seen phone numbers that are put into words: 1-800-BUY-MORE, etc. What is the shortest amount of code you can write that will produce all the possible combinations of words for a 7 digit US phone number. Input will be a seven digit integer (or string, if that is simpler), and assume that the input is properly formed. Output will be a list of seven character strings that For instance, the number 428-5246 would produce GATJAGM GATJAGN GATJAGO GATJAHM GATJAHN GATJAHO and so on..... Winning criteria will be code from any language with the fewest characters that produce every possible letter combination. Additional Notes: To make it more interesting, words can be formed only by using the letters on a North American Classic Key Pad phone with three letters per number as defined here.That means that Z and Q are excluded. For the number '1', put a space. For the number '0', put a hyphen '-' Bonus points awarded for recognizing output as real English words. Okay, not really. ;-)

• I want to query whitepages.com 4,000 times, how to save the results?

  I have an old customer list of 4,000 businesses. I want to determine if the phone numbers associated with each listing are still working (and therefore the business is probably still open). I can put each number in whitepages.com and check them one by one... but want to automate the results. I have looked at their API and can't digest it. I can form the correct query URL, but trying things like cURL -O doesn't work. I have access to Mac tools, Unix tools, and could try various javascript stuff if anyone could point me in the right direction... would even pay. Help? Thx

  I am reading a file that is filled with hex numbers. I have to identify a particular pattern, say "aaad" (without quotes) from it. Every time I see the pattern, I generate some data to some other file. This would be a very common case in designing programs - parsing and looking for a particular pattern. I have designed it as a Finite State Machine and structured structured it in C using switch-case to change states. This was the first implementation that occured to me. DESIGN: Are there some better designs possible? IMPLEMENTATION: Do you see some problems with using a switch case as I mentioned?

How can i check that i just add one li each time you hit enter. Hope you get the problem!

  i will have the following set up: people will be sending text messages to a server, and that server will be forwarding the messages to other phone numbers i am not sure what kind of framework i should use. should i develop an SMS gateway and use AT commands? should i just try to somehow use AIM or GCHAT to capture and send SMS messages? would there be a different more suitable configuration? are there already developed frameworks that are free which i can use? for example i know that i can send an SMS to almost anyone through gchat or aim by sending a message to "+" and the number of the person. is this scalable and can i use it for my own benefit? any sms developers out there?

At the end of the game, the player with the highest number wins. Now, let's say I'm a cheater. I want to write the game so player #1 (which will be me) has a probability of 90% to get six, and 2% to get each of the rest numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).   Hi everyone, I have a counter hash that I am trying to sort by count. The problem I am running into is that the default Hash.sort function sorts numbers like strings rather than by number size. i.e. Given Hash: metrics = {"sitea.com" => 745, "siteb.com" => 9, "sitec.com" => 10 } Running this code: metrics.sort {|a1,a2| a2[1]<=>a1[1]} will return a sorted array: [ 'siteb.com', 9, 'sitea.com', 745, 'sitec.com', 10] Even though 745 is a larger number than 9, 9 will appear first in the list. When trying to show who has the top count, this is making my life difficult. :) Any ideas on how to sort a hash (or an array even) by number value size? I appreciate any help.

• Html combo box to database record Id

  I'm fairly sure there has to be a simple solution to my problem, but I am a new web developer and can't quite figure it out. On my page I have a combo box whose values are filled from my database. When the user submits the form, how to I go about converting those values back to the record numbers in the database? Up to now I have been just doing a sort of reversed lookup in my database to try to get the record's ID. This has quite a few obvious flaws and I am sure that there has to be a better way. I am used to MS Forms combo boxes where the record data and ID are never separated. But in the case of a web form, I have no way to do multiple columns in the combo box like I am used to. Thanks! • remove Annotation removes random amount of annotations at a time

  I've got this code to erase an annotations (pins) in my mkmapview without erasing my blue dot (userLocation). The problem is that it erasing the pins I've added in seemingly random numbers. when it's called through an IBAction it removes the first 5 then click again it removes the next 3, then the next 2, then the last one. • Most efficient way to save tile data of an isometric game

  Hello, I'm working on an isometric game for fast browsers that support <canvas>, which is great fun. To save information of each tile, I use a two-dimensional array which contains numbers representing a tile ID, like: var level = [[1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 0], [0, 1, 1, 2, 0, 1], [0, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1]]; var tiles = [ {name: 'grass', color: 'green'}, {name: 'water', color: 'blue'}, {name: 'forest', color: 'ForestGreen'} ]; So far it works great, but now I want to work with heights and slopes like in this picture: For each tile I need to save it's tile ID, height and information about which corners are turned upward. I came up with a simple idea about a bitwise representation of all four corners, like this: 1011 // top, bottom and left corner turned up My question is: what is the most efficient way to save these three values for each cell? Is it possible to save these three values as one integer?

  I have a bunch of numbers timestamps that I want to check against a range to see if they match a particular range of dates. Basically like a BETWEEN .. AND .. match in SQL. The obvious data structure would be a B-tree, but while there are a number of B-tree implementations on CPAN, they only seem to implement exact matching. Berkeley DB has the same problem; there are B-tree indices, but no range matching. What would be the simplest way to do this? I don't want to use an SQL database unless I have to. Clarification: I have a lot of these, so I'm looking for an efficient method, not just grep over an array.

• Oracle - Is there any effects of not having a primary key on a table ?

  We use sequence numbers for primary keys on the tables. There are some tables where we dont really use the primary key for any querying purpose. But, we have Indexes on other columns. These are non-unique indexes. The queries use these non-primary key columns in the WHERE conditions. So, I dont really see any benefit of having a primary key on such tables. My experience with SQL 2000 was that, it used to replicate tables which had some primary key. Otherwise it would not. I am using Oracle 10gR2. I would like to know if there are any such side-effects of having tables that dont have primary key.

The unfortunate or unordinary fact is, we have 15 of these formsets, one for email addresses, other for phone numbers etc. so the view code is ugly and not-so-manageable. What would be the most unhackish way to handle this number of formsets in a single view? At the end -i guess- I'm looking for a class or a functionality like multiple_generic_inline_formset and open to all kind of suggestions or discussions.
