• C# Enterprise Block Application Settings and Settings.Settings designer

  I am working with v4 of the Enterprise Application block and I am trying to learn how to access the Application Settings that I have added using the Enterprise Library Configuration tool. It's as if the code does not recognize the settings even though I can see them in the app.config. I DO have a Settings.Settings designer added and I CAN get to those settings the standard way even though the settings added in that designer do NOT show up in the app.config like they normally would if I am NOT using the Enterprise Block How do I access the App Settings that I added with the Enterprise Block?

• Using DCMTK in iOS application

  I want to use DCMTK in my application and have successfully compiled DCMTK 3.6.0 for the iOS Simulator. Then I created a workspace into which I added the DCMTK project and my application. I added the .a files as target dependencies and linked the binaries. I think I am missing the part where I have to set the header/library search paths. I try to include a header file say #include "dcm2xml.h" and it says file not found. What am I doing wrong? I have seen this. - how to use dcmtk in iphone project But I think there's a simpler way without using that framework.

  This is a new iPhone project, only 1 target (different from this question) On build we get: Failed to launch simulated application: Unknown error. The google again gives us nothing, lots of people have encountered this and there are lots of crazy ideas to try "oh clean the build", "clear the cache", "twiddle this flag" and none of them work and work consistently. We can reproduce this on two different machines with SDK 2.2.1 and 3.0 beta. Not the install on the machines since other iphone projects work just fine so we believe it has something to do with the config of this particular project but after combing through the config twice we can't spot the problem. Vanna, I'd like to buy a clue for $200 please. Tried: XCode menu-Clear cache Tried: clean all targets Tried: rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/iPhone\ Simulator

  I am developing smart device application in C#. I am developing this application for 240*320 screen resolution. I want to make this application screen resolution independent so that it can run on different mobile devices with different screen resolutions. Currently I am testing my application on different emulators for platform- Pocket PC 2003, Windows mobile 6 standard SDK & Windows Mobile 6 professional SDK . When I run the application on emulator for 240*320 screen resolution or less than that it works well ( only it provide the horizontal & vertical scrall bar in case of resolution less tha 240*320). If I run my application on emulator with more than 240*320 screen resolution its User Inferface gets badly affected. How to make the smart device application screen resolution independent ? Can you provide me the code or link through which i can resolve the above issue? Is there any setting for making the application screen resolution independent?

  I'm playing around with the iPad SplitView template and it was working fine before I started swapping out view objects in my RootViewController. When it was working fine, the application:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method would be called and would setup my persistant store objects, then the RootViewController:viewDidLoad method would be called to populate my rootView with data from my store. I opened up IB and started swapping out view objects in my RootView and now the application:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions method never gets called, but the RootViewController:viewDidLoad method still does. Obviously, the app crashes because the viewDidLoad method depends on the successful execution of the didFinishLauchingWIthOptions method to setup the persistent store objects. Does anyone have any thoughts on what is causing this or how I can go about investigating what's causing this? I'm obviously new to iPhone OS development, so I apologize if this questions is absurd in any way. Thanks so much in advance for your help!

• Building Eclipse RCP application, running fails

  Hi, after successfully building my application the start fails because it relies on config files which are located in the META-INF directory and after the build this directory is zipped into a jar file, hence making it unable to access the config files. After manually unzipping the jar, deleting the jar and renaming the directory with xxx.jar the program runs without a problem. The config files are needed for SSO login (Kerberos). Here is the code: Bundle bundle = Platform.getBundle(Application.PLUGIN_ID); String path; try { path = new URL(bundle.getLocation().substring(18)).getPath(); } catch (MalformedURLException e1) { System.out.println(e1); path=""; } System.setProperty("java.security.auth.login.config",path+"META-INF/jaas-win.config"); Path variable contains something like "plugin/mydomain.pluginame-xxxx.jar/" But it seems that the System needs the jar unzipped. For PostgreSQL, a free variant is also available at EnterpriseDB. Previously I installed a free EnterpriseDB PostgreSQL variant and it was very smooth and had professional touch. It was quite different from the one available from PostgreSQL website. I want to know which IDE and RoR variant to use for my project. I have no idea of Ruby and Rails. I will be learning and developing simultaneously. Also, which PostgreSQL variant to use? Can these two technologies be used for a developing a commercial application?

• Memory leak in xbap application

  Hi, We are using many custom controls by inheriting form the WPFcontrols as the base and customizing it for our need. However, the memory used by these controls are not released, even after pages using the controls are closed, until the whole application is closed. As these application has to work for a whole day performance decreases as more and more memory gets held up. When we profiled our page we found that the controls where not getting collected as there where some binding reference or some borders or brushes etc not getting cleared from that control. We tried to use the Unload event of the controls to remove the events and some references from the control. This reduced the leak to some extent but this was slowing down closing of the page also the unload event was getting triggered when the control was even collapsed. Is there any other ways to overcome the leak? Are there any best practices to prevent memory leaks? Thanks Arvind

  Hello, I want to create an app, whith the following structure: UITabBarController ..UINavigationController ....UITabBarController So, in other words, I want to load first UITabbarController as my main ViewController, that appears on application start, in its' first tab there's a UINavigationController with a table, which shows another UITabBarController by pressing on a table cell. I started Tab Based application, set first tab to UINavigationController, and its ViewController to my TableViewController. I also created second UITabBarController in Interface Builder. Created a separate class for this controller. Everything works fine at start - my first UITabBarController is shown perfectly, but when I'm trying to push my second UITabBarController, using my UINavigationController, it looks like nothing is loaded from a .xib file - there are just an empty TabBar and NavigationBar pushed. Seems, that something is wrong with an architecture, but I can't figure out the problem. Thanks in advance and I'm sorry for my poor English. Q- I suppose the business layer will be added as a Data Source (in another project?) and from there it's a rather generic data binding solution?   Anyone else playing with ironruby? I have successfully got the IronRuby.Rails.Example project running on my local machine under IIS 5.1. I am now attempting to get my own demo rails site running in the same way. My web.config is slightly different from the example project. I am attempting to only use what was distributed with IronRuby 1.0 and what I have installed using gems.   I have an .net assembly build against 3.5 framework. This assembly has a class Foo with two method overrides: public class Foo { public T Set<T>(T value); public T Set<T>(Func<T> getValueFunc); } I'm referencing this assembly in my asp.net 2.0 web application to use first override of the Set method (without Func). But on build I get an error saying that I should reference System.Core to use System.Func delegate... but I'm not using this type... Is there a workaround to solve this? PS: There is no option to convert my web application targeting 3.5 framework.

  I am going to be taking over from a developer here at work soon. Hence, I'll be supporting all the applications that he has written over the last few years. My question is, when supporting an application that you probably don't know much about, what kind of documentation is most helpful to get a handle on how to fix problems, extend functionality, modify functionality, etc? I'm thinking it would need to give you an overview of what the software does, what interfaces it has to other software, what databases it uses, usernames, passwords, and so on. Is there such a thing as a software support document? Referrals to any templates would be most helpful. BTW, unfortunately, there are no requirements documents, specs, etc! So, really my question is, if my colleague had a day to write a single document for each application so that I could (more easily) support it, what would that document be and/or what would it look like?

  Hello i am learning python(so i can use qt with python not only c++) and i'm curios if it would be possible to embed a python interpreter in my application as a repl. I would like to give users to possibility to script the app using python either loading a file (and that file to act as a plugin for the app) or by evaluating code entered in a text box or something like that. Just like you can embed the interpreter in C or C++ and script the app using python can this be done if the application is itself written in python(and made a stand-alone binary using py2exe or something similar)? something like Anders did with the C# repl or Miguel with mono.   In a semi-critical .NET service application, what would be a good strategy for raising application events that could be monitored by network administration tools? The events would be for errors, status changes, and possibly other notifications. My company is planning to use some kind of tool down the road to monitor all critical machines and services. As of right now they are using Spice Works to do some monitoring but it is not known if they will keep this down the road. By strategy I mean, perhaps using some sort of protocol ( my network admin has mentioned SNMP), perhaps a service such as windows event log. I have no idea what is available, so I'm leaving the options open. With that in mind, here is a list of preferences I came up with: Somewhat easy to use with .NET. So what I want is an animation that "flips" the rectangle or border upside-down and then their is text on the "back". Also, I want my application to APPEAR transition from one card to another by "flying off" the screen then "another" card comes in to replace the other one in the opposite direction. • Stop IIS 7 Application Pool from build script

  How can I stop and then restart an IIS 7 application pool from an MSBuild script running inside TeamCity. I want to deploy our nightly builds to an IIS server for out testers to view. I have tried using appcmd like so: appcmd stop apppool /apppool.name:MYAPP-POOL ... but I have run into elevation issues in Windows 2008 that so far have stopped me from being able to run that command from my TeamCity build process because Windows 2008 requires elevation in order to run appcmd. If I do not stop the application pool before I copy my files to the web server my MSBuild script is unable to copy the files to the server. Has anybody else seen and solved this issue when deploying web sites to IIS from TeamCity?

  Hi, I am working on a simple iPhone application and when I run my app on my machine it installs on the device, but when I try it on a Windows machine using an ad-hoc distribution profile, it shows an error: "Application couldn't be installed because a resource has been modified." I have 2 iPhones and have tested the same app; on iPhone 2G it works fine, but on the 3G it shows the error I have written above. I tried to change the certificate and provisioning profiles, but no luck. Please let me know where I am mistaken. Thanks. Steve

  Hi guys. I (sadly) have to deploy a rails application on Windows XP which has to connect to Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Surfing in the web there are a lot of hits for connect from Linux to SQL Server, but cannot find out how to do it from Windows. Basically I followed these steps: Install dbi gem Install activerecord-sql-server-adapter gem My database.yml now looks like this: development: adapter: sqlserver mode: odbc dsn: test_dj host: HOSTNAME\SQLEXPRESS database: test_dj username: guest password: guest But I'm unable to connect it. When I run rake db:migrate I get IM002 (0) [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified I'm not a Windows user, so cannot understand really well the meaning of dsn element or so. Does someone have an idea how to solve this?
