• Looking for a manual/how-to for installing a Canon iRunner 210s network printer

  A client has a Canon iRunner210S and is complaining about slow print speeds. I've searched for a install manual online but came up empty. A call to Canon technical referred me to their dealer network for service, as as informing me that there isn't a manual available on their website. Anyone know how to install these and/or have a link to a manual? The current setup has the printers on a LAN Manager printer port instead of on straight IP ports. Is this normal for this printer? And what exactly are Lan Manager ports (based on my research, they appear to be a way to authenticate a connection)?

• Network Transfer Rate on SMB/FTP

  Hi, We're trying to optimise our network transfer rate from the client PCs to the file server, but having no luck. If I run an iperf test between a client PC (Windows XP) and our server (Linux) with a large TCP window size (the default is 8kb) I can get 60 Mbps. But when I run an SMB transfer speed test all I get is around 35 Mbps. When I run an FTP transfer speed test all I get is around 32 Mbps. I thought this was to do with the TCP window size, but I have now increased that to 256960 and it made no difference at all. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Or is 35 Mbps all I should expect? • Cannot run setups from a vboxsvr mapped network drive on Windows within VirtualBox

  I'm trying to run an application setup by double-clicking the setup.exe from within Windows Explorer. The file is located on a mapped network drive, and I'm using Windows 7. This results in the following error message: The specified path does not exist. Check the path, and then try again. The workaround I found is to copy the installer to the main hard drive (c:) and run it from there; however, this is rather inconvenient. I have the impression that the problem only occurs with installers, as everything seemed to work fine with regular exe's. Is there anyone who can explain this odd behavior? Update: After some extended tests I noticed that the problem only occurs with a mapped drive of VirtualBox's "shared folders" (cf. vboxsvr; VirtualBox v3.1.4). Mapping an SMB drive works fine. Update: The same problem occurs on Windows Vista.

  My current setup has: a pfsense firewall with 4 NICs and potential for a 5th 1 48 port 3com switch, 1 24 port HP switch, willing to purchase more subnet 1) edge (Windows Server 2003 for vpn through routing and remote access) and subnet 2) LAN with one WS2003 domain controller/dns/wins etc., one WS2008 file server, one WS2003 running Vipre anti-virus and Time Limit Manager which controls client computer use, and about 50 pcs I am looking for a network design for separating clients and staff. I could do two totally isolated subnets, but I'm wondering if there is anything in between so that staff and clients could share some resources such as printers and anti-virus servers, staff could access client resources, but not vice versa. I guess what I'm asking is can you configure subnets and/or vlans like this: 1)edge for vpn 2)services available to all other internal networks 3)staff which can access services and clients 4)clients which can access services but not staff By access/non-access, I mean stronger separation than domain usernames and passwords.

• ReadyNAS Duo - FTP home network connectivity issue

  I have a ReadyNas Duo that I recently purchased and configured on my local home network. I'm an AT&T DSL subscriber using their default 2701HG-B Gateway (2Wire) wireless router. Basically, I have managed to configure my ReadyNAS, and can access HTTP shares and WINS shares just fine, but cannot get access to it via FTP. I've enabled it in the 'Standard File Protocols' section in the UI, and made a share have read/write default access via FTP. My settings: Port: 21 Authentication mode: User Allow upload resumes: Yes Passive ports: 1024-65535 Masquerade as: (empty, but I've tried the internal IP address). I've even poked around at my router, which has a firewall, and even tried to poke a hole for the 'FTP Server'app for the ReadyNAS. Doesn't seem like I should need to do this, or should. Any ideas what else to check? Thanks! -Daniel

• Rosetta Stone Network V3 doesn't recognize built-in microphone in OSX Lion

  I am using Rosetta Stone Network V3 on an early 2011 MacBook Pro running OSX Lion 10.7.3. When I log in, select a language and level, and then a lesson, I am prompted to select a microphone. The built in microphone doesn't show up, yet I've used it multiple times for other applications. I heard from another user that it doesn't work if headphones with a built-in microphone are used. I have not yet tried a USB microphone. Is there some free work around to this? I would prefer to not have to buy a USB microphone, but if that is the only solution, then I'll live. Edit: I noticed that Rosetta Stone tells me that if I don't have a microphone I should disable speech to move on, but that option is grayed out for me.

• Automatically repair network connection when it goes down.

  Every hour or so my wireless router goes down, and everyone connected loses internet for a couple minutes. If I right click on my network connection and choose repair, I usually get internet back quicker. Is there a way I can automatically have it try to repair the connection once it goes down? Can I write a program to do this if there isn't a built in windows setting? BTW I'm using Windows XP. EDIT:My router is a Linksys WRT110 with Firmware Version: 1.0.04, and I have cable internet. The signal is 100%. I live in an apartment complex and there are about 15 other wifi networks visible to me, not sure if that has any effect.

  I am trying to set up a home network. I live in a location without cable internet so I have a Verizon MiFi card. I have a few laptops at the moment and they each connect through the card but I want to set up an Ubuntu 10.10 server and see if I can use it for DHCP. I have a Trendnet TEG-S50G switch and the computer I plan to use for the server has a Linksys WMP-11 Wireless PCI card. Is there any other equipment I need in order to get this to work? Is this even doable? Is there a better way to make this happen?

  Hi all, I have an HP 2600n installed on a SBS2003 server. This printer works fine when I print from the server itself and also from my Windows 7 computer #1. From my Windows 7 #2, it doesn't work. I get the error message that I need to install the driver. The error message is in french but here it the translation. No drivers has been found Windows is unable to find a driver for HP Color Laserjet 2600n on the network. To find a driver manually, click ok. If not, click on cancel and contact your sys adm. I reinstalled from scratch the printer, deleted the driver... Still no luck Any takers?

• Bind DHCP Server to Network Bridge

  My wireless router died, so I decided to route everything through my server. So I installed a second NIC and a wireless card to be my new network: 1 NIC to the Modem, 1 NIC to the switch, and the Wireless to... Well, wireless. Anyways, I got far enough to get DHCP to work on just ONE adapter when I used Internet Connection Sharing (I couldn't get RRAS set up for the life of me), then I decided to try bridging the wireless and second NIC. Now, the DHCP server won't bind to the bridge, but I can enter manual IP's in my clients and it'll connect to the Internet. I also tried changing my wireless adapter's IP to 192.168.0.2, and to 192.168.1.1 to try to set up a separate scope, but to no avail. Running Windows Server 2003

• Cross platform support for network attached USB hubs?

  I am looking at network-attached USB hubs in order to run licensed software in a virtualized environment when hardware dongles are required. Are there any solutions that will work with both Linux and Windows? Most of the dedicated devices -- such as the Zonet ZUH2214 or the (oddly expensive) Digi AnywherUSB/2 -- appear to be Windows-only. Linux has the the USB/IP project, for which there appear to be Windows drivers, but the last "News" post on the site was in 2007, so I'm not entirely confident about the viability of the project. Has anyone out there found a solution that will work well in both environments?

  I have a PC with Ubuntu as a router. It has a 3G connection with a public IP to the Internet, and there is a private wireless subnet. So it has two active interfaces: ppp0: public IP (WAN) wlan0: private IP (LAN) With iptables I wannt to forward every MySQL connection (port 3306) to a local machine (10.42.43.10) of the subnet. I type these iptables commands: iptables -A PREROUTING -t nat -i ppp0 -p tcp --dport 3306 -j DNAT --to 10.42.43.10:3306 iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp -i ppp0 -o wlan0 -d 10.42.43.10 --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT But it doesn't work. telnet publicip 3306 fails :-( Any help will be appreciated. • Slow network file access with VMWare Server and Windows 7

  I have Windows 7 32-bit virtual machine running in a VMWare Server virtual machine. The host is Windows 7 64-bit. When I copy files between them it is extremely slow - it will take several minutes to copy even a 1 MB file. I can upload the file to an website and then download it again almost instantaneously by comparison. Browsing the network is quite zippy and has no problems. I have been unable to set up a HomeGroup between the computers though - the guest always times out without managing to get setup. Any ideas on how I should go about tracking down where the problem is?

• Excel 2003 opening files on network

  The network is laid out with an XP Pro computer as the server hosting files, then 3 XP computers connecting to it for filesharing, all on it's own router. One computer can open .xls files no problem, and she runs Office XP. The other two computers run Office 2003, and cannot open any shared files by double-clicking them, or by selecting File-Open in Excel. If the file gets copied to the local computer, it opens instantly. I have tried disabling the AV on all computers, disabling the Windows firewall, and doublechecking permissions on the server. I have also tried disabling DDE, but that doesn't help at all, just like Tools-Options-unticking Ignore other applications. Any ideas? This apparently started a couple days ago

  Is it possible to configure an ASP.NET application under IIS 7 so it can read files stored in a mapped network drive? I'm not trying to serve up the contents of the drive. I simply need to read the contents within the ASP.NET application. I've searched the Web and haven't really found a solid answer. The questions in my mind are: Is this possible via configuration (i.e. I cannot modify the client code)? If so, what are the step by step instructions. If it is not possible, I'm fine with that. • Two network cards in one Windows 7 PC

  Hi, I've upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. On Vista I used to run one network card (Intel 82566DC -2 Gigabit) for my internet which was connected to a Dovado USB mobile broadband router connected to a 3G modem. The IP setup on the card is set on DHCP. The second card (3com Ethernet link) was used to connect to our town's local WUG (wireless user group) and all worked fine. Now the problem I have with Windows 7 is that when I connect to the internet with the (Intel) first card, the internet work fine but as soon as I connect the second card to the wug my internet drops. If I then disconnect the first card (internet one) and try to connect to the wug it works. It seems that the two cards are fighting each other. Is there maybe something I can do to fix the problem? As you probably can gather from this post is that I am not an expert on PC's so please if you do answer do I in simple terms. :) Thanks, Martin

• SBS 2003 no network connection and acting strangely a bunch of Event ID 13568

  I've got an SBS 2003 Standard server and it was running fine until earlier today when it was rebooted, after the reboot it has no network connection, I can't seem to right click on a lot of stuff and get dialog boxes, I can't launch IE, it's acting extremely strange. We are dead in the water at this point. I checked the event logs and noticed we're getting a ton of Event ID's 13568. I thought it was a Journal Wrap error, and while I was going to try to fix it using this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290762 I can't even do that because after I set the D4 value, then went to restart NTFRS from command prompt and I got the following: System Error 1059 has occurred. Circular service dependency was specified. That is where I'm at and haven't been able to figure anything else out.   I started out trying to use a shortcut to display the Local Area Connection Status window on my desktop by creating a shortcut and assigning it Ctrl+, (comma). Windows didn't like that, so it added Alt, which ended up being Ctrl+Alt++,. Since I couldn't figure out a way to eliminate Alt as part of the shortcut keys, I am now trying a different strategy and it's not working. My latest attempt is to use AutoHotkey with the following command: ^,::Run, explorer ::{BA126ADB-2166-11D1-B1D0-00805FC1270E} Which is what the shortcut target number is, but it won't open the window.

• Windows Server 2008 (sp2) stops responding on network share requests from Windows Vista and 7 client

  I have two Windows Server 2008 SP2 machines (TFS and TFSBUILD). Periodically, the TFSBUILD server shares (\TFSBUILD\ShareName or \TFSBUILD\C$) become unresponsive to requests from Windows Vista (Server 2008) and Windows 7 client requests. Windows XP machines are still able to connect. No events in the server log indicate any problem. A simple restart corrects the issue temporarily, but it always returns. No, it is not this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976266 (we aren't using that software). All anti-virus software has been disabled, firewall is disabled by policy. No other network activity is affected. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• MAC and PC problems on home network

  Hello! At home we have a wireless router that my family want to use. We have our main computer physically connected to the router, and my laptop is connected wirelessly. When the network is like this then it is faultless. However, when my brother introduces is Apple MAC into the equation, both my laptop and the family machine gets all sorts of problems, primarily long load times and timeouts. The MAC, however, works fine. I think I've read something here or SF about a MAC continusly pinging a router which times it out, but I've not found any solution so far. • Slower than expected 802.11n wireless network speeds

  I have two ASUS laptops running Windows 7 connected wirelessly via 802.11n at 150 Mbit, as reported by Task Manager. The router is Netgear WNDR3700. Running parallel client threads does not increase the overall total speed. Why would I only be getting 11.5 Mbit on a 150 Mbit connection?
