• Chromebook C720 - issue suspending and booting

  I recently bought an Acer C720 chromebook (Celeron, 2GB RAM, 16GB SSD) with the intention of loading Linux and using it as a cheap development laptop while on my holiday. The installation sort of went ok but initially the trackpad didn't work so I ran a script that mostly fixed that. My current issues are: Booting: it still goes to the chrome "unknown os" white screen - I have to press ctrl L - then escape then 1 then wait for 30 secs while it seems to be searching for something. Then Ubunto loads up fine. Any idea how to fix this? Suspend: if I close the lid of the laptop then it doesn't seem to suspend properly. At least when I open the lid the screen appears to be on but the screen is blank with a cursor. Nothing responds on the keyboard and I have to hold the power down to restart it. The suspend from the top menu has the same issue. Moving windows: I don't have a mouse click button so how do I move windows around the screen? Launcher bar: I've set mine to auto hide (which it does) but what exactly do you have to do to get it back? I just repeatedly jab the mouse at the side of the screen and eventually it pops up. I don't mind starting all over again but obviously a quick fix is preferred ;) Mike Ubunto 14.04.1 LTS Kernel 3.13.0-32-generic PS Sorry for so many questions.

• combobox intem does not show in crystal report [migrated]

  I am creating a simple printing application using crstal reports, C# and visual studio 2010. On my winform I have some textboxes, comboboxes. Comboboxes are using data for fill from the XML file. On my report I created some parameters and linked with the selection of comboboxes. When I use: cryRpt.SetParameterValue("PAR3", cmbSome.SelectedIndex); on my report I see the 0 or 1 depending my item selection. Now I want to display, not the index but the value ie: Monday. If I use selectedItem, selectedText or selectedValue i do not see anything on my report. To see what happend i put another textbox on my form and linked it with the combobox selection as: txtProe.Text = Convert.ToString(cmbSome.SelectedItem); or txtProe.Text = cmbSome.Text; In both case when I click the button I see that my selection from cmbSome is passed to it. Does anyone knows what happens here ??!

• initial Class design: access modifiers and no-arg constructors

  Context: Student working through Class design in personal/side project for Summer. I've never written anything implemented by others or had to maintain code. Trying to maximize encapsulation and imagining what would make code easy to maintain. Concept: Tight/Loose Class design where Tight and Loose refer to access modifiers and constructors. Tight: initially, everything, including setters, is private and a no-arg constructor is not provided (only a full constructor). Loose: not Tight Exceptions: the obvious like toString Reasoning: If code, at the very beginning, is tight, then it should be guaranteed that changes, with respect to access/creation, should never damage existing implementations. The loosening of code happens incrementally and must be thought through, justified, and safe (validated). Benefit: Existing implementing code should not break if changes are made later. Cost: Takes more time to create. Since this is my own thinking, I hope to get feedback as to whether I should push to work this way. Good idea or bad idea?

  Written by Mike Schmitz - Sr. Director, Program Management Oracle JD Edwards  I remember seeing a super bowl commercial several years ago showing some well dressed people on the African savanna herding cats. I remember turning to the people I was watching the game with and telling them, “You just watched my job description”. Releasing software is a multi-facetted undertaking. In addition to making sure the code changes are complete, you also need to make sure the other key parts of a release are ready. For example when you have a question about the software, will the person on the other end of the phone be ready to answer your question? If you need training on that cool new piece of functionality, will there be an online training course ready for you to review? If you want to read about how the software is supposed to function, is there a user manual available? Putting all the release pieces together so they are available at the same time is what the JD Edwards Program Management team does. It is my team’s job to work with all the different functional teams so when a release is made generally available you have all the things you need to be successful. The JD Edwards Program Management team uses an internal planning tool called the Release Process Model (RPM) to ensure all deliverables are accounted for in a release. The RPM makes sure all the release deliverables are ready at the correct time and in the correct format. The RPM really helps all the functional teams in JD Edwards know what release deliverables they are accountable for and when they are to be delivered. It is my team’s job to make sure everyone understands what they need to do and when they need to deliver. We then make sure they are all on track to deliver on-time and in the right format. It is just that some days this feels like herding cats.

• Unobtrusive Maximum Input Lengths with JQuery and FluentValidation

  If you use FluentValidation and set a maximum length for a string or a maximum  value for a numeric property, JQuery validation is used to show an error message when the user inputs too many characters or a numeric value which is too big. • SpriteBatch.Begin() making my model not render correctly

  I was trying to output some debug information using DrawString when I noticed my model suddenly was being rendered like it was inside-out (like the culling had been disabled or something) and the texture maps weren't applied I commented out the DrawString method until I only had SpriteBatch.Begin() and .End() and that was enough to cause the model rendering corruption - when I commented those calls out the model rendered correctly What could this be a symptom of? I've stripped it down to the barest of code to isolate the problem and this is what I noticed. • Integrated Reporting Is Getting Closer

  By John O’Rourke, Vice President, Product Marketing, Oracle Oracle recently sponsored a webcast on CFO.com titled:  The CFO Playbook on Integrated Reporting: Integrating Sustainability into Financial Disclosures which focused on why top companies in the U.S. and overseas are incorporating sustainability content into their annual reports and other financial disclosures.  The webcast speakers, James Margolis, partner with Environmental Resources Management (ERM), a global provider of environmental, health, safety, risk and sustainability consulting services (EHSS) and Mike Wallace, Director of the Global Reporting Initiative's Focal Point USA, discussed the benefits of integrating sustainability reporting with traditional financial reporting.   Some of our customers inform us that in some cases following error appears: System.Management.ManagementException: Blad dostawcy. at System.Management.ManagementException.ThrowWithExtendedInfo(ManagementStatus errorCode) at System.Management.ManagementObjectCollection.ManagementObjectEnumerator.MoveNext() The error is generated while trying to loop through a colection returned by Get() method of the System.Mamangment.ManagementObjectSearcher object. • Custom page sizes in paging dropdown in Telerik RadGrid

  Working with Telerik RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX is actually quite easy and the initial effort to get started with the control suite is very low. Meaning that you can easily get good result with little time. But there are usually cases where you have to go a little further and dig a little bit deeper than the standard scenarios. In this article I am going to describe how you can customize the default values (10, 20 and 50) of the drop-down list in the paging element of RadGrid. Get control over the displayed page sizes while using numeric paging... The default page sizes are good but not always good enough The paging feature in RadGrid offers you 3, well actually 4, possible page sizes in the drop-down element out-of-the box, which are 10, 20 or 50 items. You can get a fourth option by specifying a value different than the three standards for the PageSize attribute, ie. 35 or 100. The drawback in that case is that it is the initial page size. Certainly, the available choices could be more flexible or even a little bit more intelligent. For example, by taking the total count of records into consideration. There are some interesting scenarios that would justify a customized page size element: A low number of records, like 14 or similar shouldn't provide a page size of 50, A high total count of records (ie: 300+) should offer more choices, ie: 100, 200, 500, or display of all records regardless of number of records I am sure that you might have your own requirements, and I hope that the following source code snippets might be helpful. Wiring the ItemCreated event In order to adjust and manipulate the existing RadComboBox in the paging element we have to handle the OnItemCreated event of RadGrid. As a final step, ensure that the previously selected value is the active one using the FindItemByValue() method. Of course, there might be different requirements but I hope that the snippet above provide a first insight into customized page size value in Telerik's Grid. The Grid demos describe a more advanced approach to customize the Pager.

• Audio not working in 12.10

  I did a clean install of 12.10, when I open Sound Settings in gnome the only device in the list is "Dummy Output", and sound is not working. Sound worked fine out of the box in 12.04 I ran alsamixer, it says my card is "HDA Intel", and chip is "Realtek ALC880". The alsamixer playback output was set to mute at first, unmuting did not fix. I checked out the info at http://www.unixmen.com/2012003-howto-resolve-nosound-problem-on-ubuntu/ as suggested on a similar question, I've done everything there except installing the ubuntu audio dev team driver. Should I try install this?   I am working on a dollars to euros/euros to dollars converter in C#. I got the formula, $ times 0.73361 = euro, and I have checked Google with the answers. They were right, (1 dollar equals 0.73 euros). However, it stops working properly when the dollar input value is higher than $1363. This is what I get with $1364: $1364 = 1 000,64 €. I don't know what to do, will someone please help me?
