• Getting a NullReferenceException Error when invoking a Select File Dialog Box

  Hey everyone This is a real newbie question. I have simple app that selects a picture and display's that picture in a PictureBox. I decided to mess with the Opacity Attribute so I added a timer and created this cool effect where the Main Form's Opacity is increased by 20% every 400 miliseconds. The problem is that now when I click the button that invokes the Select File Dialog Box I'm getting a NullReferenceException error. private void tmrClock_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (ViewerForm.ActiveForm.Opacity != 1) { ActiveForm.Opacity = ActiveForm.Opacity + .20; } } The error message is pointing to the if statement.   i have a language table which is as a foreign key in the link table , The link can be in 3 languages meaning there will be 3 rows in the link table every time i enter the record . i am using jQuery tabs to enter the records in 3 languages . OK so that thing is that there will be three text boxes for every field in the table.link name field will have 3 text boxes, description will have 3 text boxes and so on. i am using LINK to SQL with VS2010. i will be creating link class with MetadataType so how will i handle for eg link name attribute 3 times

• How to properly align textboxes on a webpage with labels

  Hi, this is a CSS / design question. I have three textboxes that i want to be center aligned on a web page. Then i want a label description to the right of each one. When i use attribute like text:align:centre because the labels are of different length it throws out the aligment of the textboxes [see image link below] http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=qcyoajm2iuk Is there an easy way of keeping the textboxes aligned and then have the labels off the to the right without changing the textboxes? • why does calling methods on a div fire the live click event

  i have this jquery code: $(this).parent('.copyFoodInstance').attr("myset", "0"); $(this).parent('.copyFoodInstance').html("<img BORDER=0 src='../../images/copy1.png' />"); it seems that when i call this code, this event fires: $(document).ready(function() { $('div.copyFoodInstance').live('click', function() { does anyone know why this event fires from the lines above? is there anyway to stop if from firing? All i am doing is updating an attribute on the div and updating the html. this shouldn't fire a click event?

• DI: Injecting ActionFilterAttribute implementation (ASP.NET MVC)

  I was wondering if it is possible to inject a particular ActionFilterAttribute implementation using a IoC container. For example, imagine you create a TransactionAttribute class [Transaction] You use this to decorate action which should be wrapped in a transaction in the persistence layer. But implementation details of the attribute will be tied to the persistence tech you are using, but strictly speaking, your controller should not know about this, and you might want to swap this out. What I would like to do, is define some kind of TransactionAttribute interface, and then have my IoC inject the correct implantation. So on my actions I only need specify: [Transaction] public ActionResult SomeAction() { .... } ...and the IoC will inject the correct implementation depending on config (eg. something like NHibernateTransactionAttribute, or SomeOtherORMTransactionAttribute). Is this possible? Has anyone done it?

  I have an XmlSerializer object, and I have added 2 event handlers to the UnknownElement and UnknownAttribute events, as below: XmlSerializer xs = new XmlSerialiser(typeof(MyClass)); xs.UnknownAttribute += new XmlAttributeEventHandler(xs_UnknownAttribute); xs.UnknownElement += new XmlElementEventHandler(xs_UnknownAttribute); Each of these event handlers basically do the same thing, they print out the node name or the attribute name causing the issue. But for some reason, an InvalidOperationException is getting thrown saying there is an error in the xml document with . I thought these errors would be caught by my events?

• Using custom HTML attributes for JavaScript purposes?

  One of my colleagues doesn't like to use HTML classes and ids for javascript/jQuery purpose. Therefore I've seen that he had created custom html attribute such as <div id="myid" class="cssClasses ..." [some-purpose-id]="mycustomId">...</div> I asked him if it was really a good idea and he replied that he considers that classes and Ids should be reserved for styling. Personally, I would have used classes. Some classes would have been used for styling, and some other classes would have been used for programming (jQuery selectors). The idea is to keep things appart also. And of course jQuery could set styling classes but if possible not use them for selection. Of course I also use id when appropriate but since an id is unique on a page, I like to do generic stuff using classes. I would like to know you opinions on the better approach (if there is one). • ParentViewController returns nil

  Hi I know there are many questions on this, but I don't get it to work. I present a UITabBarController with the presentModalViewController. However when I try to get title from the navigationItem title attribute in the UINavigationController class that presents the tabcontroller, it returns nil no matter what I do. I have the NSLog in the viewDidLoad method in tabcontroller class. I also cast the UIViewController which is returned by the self.parentViewController property. Then I try to access the title through: NSLog(@"%@", castedViewController.navigationItem.title); Any suggestions?

• Getting a random element in Django

  I just finished the Django tutorial and started work on my own project, however, I seem to have missed something completely. I wanted to get a random slogan from this model: from django.db import models class Slogan(models.Model): slogan = models.CharField(max_length=200) And return it in this view: from django.http import HttpResponse from swarm.sloganrotator.models import Slogan def index(request): return HttpResponse(Slogan.objects.order_by('?')[:1]) However, the view just returns 'Slogan object'. Then I thought, maybe I can access the slogan string itself by simply appending .slogan to the slice, but that gives me an error indicating that the object I have is actually a QuerySet and has no attribute slogan. I've obviously misunderstood something about Django here, but it just doesn't fall into place for me. Any help?

  A user may have several labels, and links. Then, a user associates a label (or more) to a link. How does one represent the later relationship? A solution could be a many-to-many relationship btw user and link with the optional attribute label. http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Java_Persistence/ManyToMany#Mapping_a_Join_Table_with_Additional_Columns In this case the relationship btw user and label may better be 'virtual'. • Adding behaviour to a set of classes

  I have defined an Event class: Event and all the following classes inherit from Event: SportEventType1 SportEventType2 SportEventType3 SportEventType4 Right now I will only have SportEvents but I don't know if in the future I'll want some other kind of events that doesn't even have anything to do with Sports. Later, I will want to draw some graphics with info taken from Events, and the drawing logic can be a bit complex. But, for the moment, I think I shouldn't think of how the drawing will be done and I believe that maybe it'd be better if that drawing part was not put as an integral part of the Event/SportEventX class chain. I am looking for solutions for this problem. I know I could just make Event have an instance variable(attribute, for the java crowds) pointing to something as an IDrawInterface, but that would make the Event class "assume" it will be later used for drawing. I would like to make the Event class oblivious to this if possible. Thanks!

  Suppose I have a table Recipe that hasmany ingredients. I do a recursive find to grab recipes with their associated ingredients: $this->Recipe->find('all', array('fields' => array('id','title','description'))); Here I can use the 'fields' attribute to specify that I only want it to return id, title, and description. However, despite this, cakephp still returns ALL columns from the ingredients table. How do I tell cakephp that I only want ingredient table's id and name fields? btw ingredient model is "Ingredient" and the table is ingredients, and the aggregation table is recipes_ingredients.

  I'm trying to change the links in an iframe to load in a new window instead of the iframe itself. I know this code would work if it's triggered in the body onload attribute, but I'd like to avoid that method and implement it in a function or a file instead.

• WF - Creating a selective list

  I have a stupid question. I have created a workflow Designer host where I publish my own activities. I also have a property grid which only displays the properties decorated with a special attribute. This designer is going to be used by none IT staff. What I want is that on an activity the user can select a property value from a list. I know I just could create an Enum but I would like it to be dynamic. I.e. all events on a specific interface (extracted using reflection). Is this at all possible or am I stuck with enums?

I know about some suspicious ways to do this by styling visited links and then sneaking on computed style attribute, but it's more of a hack, Mozilla and maybe other are planning to crack down on this, as it might be abused. But I need this to allow users more integration with their identity providers, like: Have a Google account? ~ load contacts for sharing from Google Contacts API Have an Yahoo account? ~ load contacts for sharing from Yahoo Contacts API none of the above? show no link I don't want to provide all these options to all visitors, would be nice if I can detect the account, and provide integration only in that case.

• How can I use a carriage return in a HTML tooltip ?

  Hi, I'm currently adding verbose tooltips to our site, and I'd like (without having to resort to a whizz-bang jQuery plugin, I klnow there are many!) to use carriage returns to format the tooltip. To add the tip I'm using the 'title' attribute. I've looked around the usual sites and using the basic template of: <a title='Tool?Tip?On?New?Line' >link with tip</a> I've tried replacing the '?' with: <br /> &013; / &#13; \r\n Environment.NewLine (I'm using C#) Neither work. • Rails, making certain multiparameter attributes optional?

  Is there a method already part of Rails for making certain parameters option when part of a multiparameter attribute, for example say I'm prompting a user for their birthday, when saved the has may look like this: "birthday(2i)"=>"8", "birthday(3i)"=>"17", "birthday(1i)"=>"1980"}, ... But the issue arises when say I want to allow the user to just provide their month and day, making the year optional, how would this work being a datetime object, I'm assuming you can't do this as a date object... but any ideas would be helpful.   Hello all, I use the following code to see how long a user is on a particular page. I use a hidden image with a src attribute to this script: $timer_seconds = 1; while(!connection_aborted()) { echo "\n"; flush(); sleep(1); $timer_seconds++; } I sometimes find this can be off by 5-10 seconds! I am guessing its the load of the server that effects the timing?? Is there anyway I can make this accurate? Thanks all for any help.
