• Why do I recieve multiple warnings of "No running instance of xfce4-panel was found" when logging into Xubuntu?

  I'm running Xubuntu 11.04, the bootup-time is quite fast but when I log in it takes close to a minute before the desktop is displayed, meanwhile I see no activity on the hard drive. When I finally have the desktop I see this notification repeated 10 times: and then this one: In .config/autostart I have these entries $ ls xfce4-settings-helper-autostart.desktop xfce4-clipman-plugin-autostart.desktop xfce-panel.desktop $ cat xfce-panel.desktop [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Version=0.9.4 Type=Application Name=xfce4-panel Comment= Exec=xfce4-panel StartupNotify=false Terminal=false Hidden=false I need some assistance to locate the slow startup, which logs to look at etc. And then this annoying message about xfce-panel. • Setting my PictureBox to transparent background color doesn't really make it transparent. Bug?

  Here's what I have in VERY simple easy to grasp terms. My form background is Blue. I created a gradient image from white to the Blue from the form background. This is to give the form a nice gradient look. I added a picturebox to my Form and set this image as the Image. I added a picturebox with a Logo on top of the gradient Picturebox, but it's 'grabbing' the Form background color and not respecting the transparent background image I wanted it to grab. So: Blue Form - Huge pictureBox with gradient - Small picturebox thats supposed to respect the gradient. Help please!

  I set up a PXE server which hosts both Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Server. Ubuntu Desktop is installed successfully from PXE.   One can autostart an application such that it launches on session start with an xdg desktop file in ~/.config/autostart (or /etc/xdg/autostart). But my application (a python/gtk/webkit/html5 app) when autostarted has a unity (and a unity-2d) launcher icon that is a gray question mark, even though: when I find it in dash, the dash shows the icon I specify in my main desktop file (in /usr/share/applications) when I launch it from dash, the launcher shows the icon I specify in my main desktop file when I add it as a favorite, the launcher shows the proper icon There are two cases where I get the gray question mark icon: autostart launch from terminal (this use case is not essential though and doesn't involve the desktop file anyway: but should/does ubuntu have an xdg desktop file interpreter à la #!/usr/bin/desktop or something) So: what is needed such unity (3d/2d) launcher panel shows the icon specified in an autostart desktop file?

• How do I change the background color of the column with the expanders in Eclipse?

  Recently after scorching my retinas from the garish white background in Eclipse, I found some of the excellent posts about how to change the colors so it uses sane (i.e. dark background) colors in the editor. However, one problem present in all solutions is that background of the column with the expanders for code folding is always white. Is there a way to change the background of that column? Here's a screenshot of the problem: I'm not the only person that has this problem, as shown in the screenshots for the following questions: Dark Color Scheme for Eclipse Color Themes for Eclipse (application of color schemes results in this issue on a Mac, no idea about PC) I know that the problem is not language specific as it happens in Java, Python, HTML, and everything else. Any hints on where in the pages of preferences this setting is?

• Restrict RDP port based on a Dynamic DNS

  Hi All, I want to set a restriction on my firewall (windows firewall on windows 2008) to only allow connections from a certain dynamic DNS. Is this possible? The reason I ask is that this would allow us to just change the IP on the dynamic DNS if our IP changes and means we won't get locked out of RDP. This also allows me to RDP in from other locations that have IP's that are not static by just changing the IP against the DNS. Any ideas. Thanks in advance.

• How to Package and Deploy Eclipse Java Application

  Before I begin, I'm new to eclipse, please keep that in mind when replying. :) Here is the situation, I have built an java application that has some dependencies (~10 of them). I would like to easily package this application up and deploy it as a single file to a CD or usb drive. My question is there doesn't seem to be any "nice" wizard to search the project, grab the dependencies and setup the classpath on the target computer. Seems to me I have to do this manually. Is there a better way. Something simple, easy and straight forward. A link to a tutorial on this would be great. Seems to me that this should be a built-in feature to eclipse. Deployment of a web application seems easy enough, but not a java application. Thanks!

  I tried to answer the question from Mark: Keymap issues with NX from Mac OS X Lion to Ubuntu However, it is locked so I figured I would post a new question / answer. I have been trying to answer this for a few days now because I have no issues when connecting through NX Client (technically OpenNX) to FreeNX server from an iMac (with Lion), but if I try to connect with a Macbook Pro I get horrible keyboard binding issues. The fix that is working for me is to go into: ~/.nx/config/HOST.nxs and change: <option key="Current keyboard" value="false"/> <option key="Custom keyboard layout" value="empty"/> <option key="Grab keyboard" value="false"/> I have tried this on three NX Servers and all are fixed. Hope it helps or gets you closer.   I need to parse Html code. More specifically, parse each cell of every rows in all tables. Each row represent a single object and each cell represent different properties. I want to parse these to be able to write an XML file with every data inside (without the useless HTML code).   Apart from seeming a few, I don't know much about how gadgets work. Are they special applications, or regular apps with special styled windows? I can't think of any app I use which has asked me if I want to install a gadget... I'd have thought any application which is typically left running all the time would be suitable... Skype/MSN for example. Am I misunderstanding the point of gadgets, or are they not popular?

Also, does the System.Gadget.Flyout.show property have to be true before the System.Gadget.Flyout.document property can be accessed? My ultimate goal is to open a flyout and dynamically populate it's html

  Hello, I am developing a software using C# 2.0 which uses about 200MB of memory and occasionally high CPU. The problem is, when i am leaving my machine idle for about 20-30 mins with the application running, after i come back and try to use the application, it freezes for about 2 mins, then becomes interactive. • How to made my background image strech if I dynamicaly insert DIV in the middle of the page

  Hi, I have a background image which I apply to the body. The image is only in the bottom and stretch to the entire width of the page. The image is 1 X 320 px. body { background-image: url("../images/bg-main.gif"); background-position: 0% 100%; background-repeat:repeat-x; } The rest of my web site is in 1024 X 768 resolution. It works perfectly until I dynamically insert a new DIV in the middle of the page using javascript. It cause the browser scroll bar to appear and when I scroll down to the bottom, I can see the image stopping right at it's original position. How can I make my image get down again without reloading the page ??? I'm using the EXTJS framework to avoid reloading the page... Thanks Alain

  One of the things I like about Microsoft's RDC Client is that the resolution of the experience is set by the client and not, say, a physical monitor connected to the host, as is the case with VNC; the latter being the protocol used by Mac. This means that even though I'm connecting to a notebook with a 1280x800 physical resolution, via RDC I can run it at 2560x1600 on my 30" monitor. However, that only seems to work for RDC. Does anyone know of something I can run on the Mac that will allow me to remotely control it at a different resolution than what is physically set? TIA, Mark
