• UINavigationController from scratch?

  I have a view based app that works well. (In other words, I'm not going to start over with a Navigation-Based App template.) It's an immersive app of sorts and I'm trying to add a Table View that loads in a new view when a button is pressed. The loading the nib part works, but I can't seem to be able to add a navigation controller to the new view. I want to see a navigation bar on top with a done button and an edit button. Also, I want to the Table View entries to be empty. I added a new file like so: File-> New File -> UINavigationController subclass. I checked the UITableViewController Subclass and With XIB for user interface. All I see when the view is pulled up is a blank Table View. I am able to customize things in the view controller. What can I do to make the table show a navigation bar and be editable? I need some direction here please. EDIT: I'm working with the latest Public SDK. (XCode 3.2.2)

• cellForRowAtIndexPath not called for all sections

  I have a UITableView that has five sections. Just as the title describes cellForRowAtIndexPath is only being called for the first four. All connections have been made concerning the datasource and delegate. Also, my numberOfSectionsInTableView clearly returns 5. Printing out the number of sections from within cellForRowAtIndexPath shows the correct number, thus confirming that cellForRowAtIndexPath is simply not being called for all sections. What on earth is going on? I looked pretty hard for an answer to this question but could't find one. If this has already been answered please forgive me and point me in the correct direction. • WPF Event Handler in Another Class

  I have built a series of event handlers for some custom WPF controls. The event handles format the text displayed when the user enters or leaves a textbox based on the type of data contained (Phone number, zip code, monetary value, etc.) Right now I have all of the events locally in the C# code directly attached to the xaml. Because I have developed a could controls, this means that the logic is repeated a lot, and if I want to change the program-wide functionality I would have to make changes everywhere the event code is located. I am sure there is a way to put all of my event handlers in a single class. Can anyone help point me in the correct direction? I saw this article: Event Handler located in different class than MainWindow But I'm not sure if it directly relates to what I'm doing. I would rather make small changes to the existing logic that I have, as it works, then rewrite everything into commands. • C programming - How to print numbers with a decimal component using only loops?

  I'm currently taking a basic intro to C programming class, and for our current assignment I am to write a program to convert the number of kilometers to miles using loops--no if-else, switch statements, or any other construct we haven't learned yet are allowed. So basically we can only use loops and some operators. The program will generate three identical tables (starting from 1 kilometer through the input value) for one number input using the while loop for the first set of calculations, the for loop for the second, and the do loop for the third. I've written the entire program, however I'm having a bit of a problem with getting it to recognize an input with a decimal component. • Determine asymmetric latencies in a network

  Imagine you have many clustered servers, across many hosts, in a heterogeneous network environment, such that the connections between servers may have wildly varying latencies and bandwidth. You want to build a map of the connections between servers my transferring data between them. Of course, this map may become stale over time as the network topology changes - but lets ignore those complexities for now and assume the network is relatively static. Given the latencies between nodes in this host graph, calculating the bandwidth is a relative simply timing exercise. I'm having more difficulty with the latencies - however. To get round-trip time, it is a simple matter of timing a return-trip ping from the local host to a remote host - both timing events (start, stop) occur on the local host. What if I want one-way times under the assumption that the latency is not equal in both directions? Assuming that the clocks on the various hosts are not precisely synchronized (at least that their error is of the the same magnitude as the latencies involved) - how can I calculate the one-way latency? In a related question - is this asymmetric latency (where a link is quicker in direction than the other) common in practice? For what reasons/hardware configurations? Certainly I'm aware of asymmetric bandwidth scenarios, especially on last-mile consumer links such as DSL and Cable, but I'm not so sure about latency. Added: After considering the comment below, the second portion of the question is probably better off on serverfault.

• mySQL select and group by values

  I'd like to count and group rows by specific values. This seems fairly simple, but I can't seem to do it. I have a table set up similar to this: Table: Ratings id pID uID rating 1 1 2 7 2 1 7 7 3 1 5 4 4 1 1 1 id is the primary key, piD and uID are foreign-keys. Rating contains values between 1 and 10, and only between 1 and 10. I want to run some statistics and count the number of ratings with a certain value. In the example above, two have left a rating of 7. So I wrote the following query: SELECT COUNT(*) AS 'count' , 'rating' FROM 'ratings' WHERE pID= '1' GROUP BY `rating` ORDER BY `rating` Which yields the nice result as: count ratings 1 1 1 4 2 7 I'd like to get the mySQL query to include values between 1 and 10 as well. For example: Desired Result count ratings 1 1 0 2 0 3 1 4 0 5 0 6 2 7 0 8 0 9 0 10 Unfortunately, I'm relatively new to SQL and I've been reading through everything I could get my hands on for the past hour, but I can't get it to work. I've been leaning along the lines of a some type of JOIN. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it'd be appreciated. Thanks.

• Detect mouseover and show tooltip text for dots on an HTML Canvas

  Ive recently created a "map" although not very sophisticated (im working on it) it has the basic function and is generally heading in the right direction.   Hey everyone, I have an ANT build that I need to setup so on deployment of the .war a certain file will be placed in a specific location. • paypal_adaptive gem in Rails: Dynamic Receiver "Population" (Chained Payments)

  Note: I didn't find a better title for this O.o Hello, Humm... Look, what I want to do is to have a Rails app where a visitor can click a button/link to make a "special" chained payment using Paypal; Currently I have a Users registration form that has one field for the user to enter his/her paypal account email, and as I saw here: http://marker.to/XGg9MR it is possible to specify the primary reciever and the secondary ones by adding such info in a controller action when using the paypal_adaptive gem in a rails app. The thing is, I don't want to hard code the secondary reciever as I need to specify a different secondary reciever from time to time, (being specific my primary reciever will always be the same, but depending on what button/link the visitor clicks, the secondary one is going to change) and I want that secondary reciever email to be the paypal e-mail account from one of the registered users when the visitor clicks on their specific button/link... My question is: Is it possible to create such enviroment functionality in my app using the current implementation of the paypal_adaptive gem? Could someone point me in the right direction on how to accomplish such thing? I'm still learning rails and also I'm really new in the paypal handling universe with this framework! XD P.S. • Asp.Net 2 integrated sites How to Logout second site programatically.

  Hi , I am working with an asp.net 2.0 site (call it site 1) which has an iframe in it which loads up another site (site2) which is also an asp.net site which is developed by our team. When you log onto site 1 then behind the scenes site 2 is also logged in so that when you click the iframe tab then this displays site 2 with the user logged in (to prevent the user from having to log in twice). The problem i have is that when a user logs out of site 1 then we call some cleanup methods to perform FormsAuthentication.SignOut and clean session variables etc but at the moment no cleanup is called when the user on site 2. So the issue is that if the user opens up Site 2 from within a browser then website 2 opens with the user still logged in which is undesired. Can anyone give me some guidance as to the best approach for this?? One possible approach i though of was just that on click of logout button i could do a call to a custom page on Site 2 which would do the logout. • Complicated API issue with calling assemblies dynamically?

  I have an interesting challenge that I'm wondering if anyone here can give me some direction. I'm writing a .Net windows forms application that runs on a network and uses an SQL Server to save and pull data. I want to offer a mini "plugin" API, where developers can build their own assemblies and implement a specific interface (IDataManipulate). These assemblies then can be used by my application to call the interface functions and do something. I can create assemblies using my API, copy the file to a folder in my local hard drive and configure my application to use Reflection to call a specific function from the implemented interface (IDataManipulate.Execute). The problem: Since the application will be installed in multiple workstations in the network, is impossible to copy the plugin dlls the users will create to each machine. Solutions I tried: Solution 1 Copy the API dll to a network share. Problem: Requires AllowPartiallyTrustedCallersAttribute, which requires .Net singing, which I can't force from my users. Solution 2 (preferred) Serialize the dll object, save it to the database, deserialize it and call IDataManipulate.Execute. Problem: After deserialization, I try cast it to a IDataManipulate object but returns an error looking for the actual dll file. Solution 3 Save the dll bytes as byte[] to the database and recreate the dll at the local PC every time the user starts my application. Problem: Dll may have dependencies, which I don't know if I can detect. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

• Using Enum in Hibernate causes select followed by an update statement

  Hi all, I have a mapped entity wich has an enum property. By loking at log file, whenever I run a select statement on such entity, the result is an immediately following update. For example if my result set contains 100 records, then I have: [INFO org... select...] [INFO org... update... where id=?] [INFO org... update... where id=?] .... repeated 100 times If I mark the property as update=false the problem disappear. The enum is assigned trough an enum converter class, which I copied from a well known book. So I don't know if I just copy and paste the code. • How could I eliminate the meter names with an 'x' after them?

  Hi I imported some Excel data into MatLab - it is a list of about 200 meter names with about 28 rows each, but the problem is that for each there is a duplicate for the other direction - with the same meter name with an 'x' after it. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can eliminate these ones with an 'x' after wards? • How to detect a Socket disconnection?

  I've implemented a task using the async Sockets pattern in Silverlight 3. I started with Michael Schwarz's implementation and built on top of that. So basically, my Silverlight app establishes a persistent socket connection to a device and then data flows both ways as necessary between the device and the Silverlight app. One thing I am struggling with is how to detect disconnection. I could think of 2 approaches: Keep-Alive. I know this can be done at the Sockets level, but I am not sure how to do this in an async model. How would the Socket class let me know there has been a disconnection. Manual keep alive. Basically, I am having the Silverlight app send a dummy packet every 20 seconds or so. If it fails, I'd assume disconnection. However, incredibly, SocketAsyncEventArgs.SocketError always reports success, even if I simply unplug the device that the Silverlight app is connected to. I am not sure whether this is a bug or what or perhaps I need to upgrade to SL4. Any ideas, direction or implementation would be appreciated.

• How to replace auto-implemented c# get body at runtime or compile time?

  I've been trying to figure this out all night, but I guess my knowledge of the .Net Framework just isn't that deep and the problem doesn't exactly Google well, but if I can get a nod in the right direction I'm sure I can implement it, one way or another. I'd like to be able to declare a property decorated with a custom attribute as such: public MyClass { [ReplaceWithExpressionFrom(typeof(SomeOtherClass))] public virtual bool MyProperty { get; } } public SomeOtherClass : IExpressionHolder<MyClass, bool> { ... } public interface IExpressionHolder<TArg, TResult> { Expression<Func<TArg, TResult>> Expression { get; } } And then somehow - this is the part I'm having trouble figuring - replace the automatically generated implementation of that getter with a piece of custom code, something like: Type expressionHolderType = LookupAttributeCtorArgTypeInDeclarationOfPropertyWereReplacing(); return ReplaceWithExpressionFromAttribute.GetCompiledExpressionFrom(expressionHolderType)(this); The main thing I'm not sure how to do is replace the automatic implementation of the get. The first thing that came to mind was PostSharp, but that's a more complicated dependency than I care for. I'd much prefer a way to code it without using post-processing attached to the build (I think that's the jist of how PostSharp sinks its hooks in anyway). The other part of this I'm not so sure about is how to retrieve the type parameter passed to the particular instantiation of the ReplaceWithExpressionFrom attribute (where it decorates the property whose body I want to replace; in other words, how do I get typeof(SomeOtherClass) where I'm coding the get body replacement). I plan to cache compiled expressions from concrete instances of IExpressionHolder, as I don't want to do that every time the property gets retrieved. I figure this has just got to be possible. At the very least I figure I should be able to search an assembly for any method decorated with the attribute and somehow proxy the class or just replace the IL or .. something? And I'd like to make the integration as smooth as possible, so if this can be done without explicitly calling a registration or initialization method somewhere that'd be super great. Thanks!

• Using LINQ to isolate a particular obect from a list of objects

  Hello All, I am trying my hand at making an invaders clone. there are 30 aliens arranged in a 5x 6 matrix on screen. I need to give the bottom most alien the ability to fire a shot. I am using LINQ to group the aliens into 5 groups based on Location.X and then sort the groups descending.I then need to choose one of the groups ( that gives me 5 groups) and select the First alien in the group and use it;s coordinate to fire a shot. My code below ,well ,works , but aliens in ANY row are merrily firing shots- not just the bottom most. Pl look at my code below and tell me whats wrong. • Mongodb update: how to check if an update succeeds or fails?

  I think the title pretty much says it all. I'm working with Mongodb in PHP using the pecl driver. My updates are working great, but I'd like to build some error checking into my funciton(s). I've tried using lastError() in a pretty simple function: function system_db_update_object($query, $values, $database, $collection) { $connection = new Mongo(); $collection = $connection->$database->$collection; $connection->$database->resetError(); //Added for debugging $collection->update( $query, array('$set' => $values)); //$errorArray = $connection->$database->lastError(); var_dump($connection->$database->lastError());exit; // Var dump and /Exit/ } But pretty much regardless of what I try to update (whether it exists or not) I get these same basic results: array(4) { ["err"]=> NULL ["updatedExisting"]=> bool(true) ["n"]=> float(1) ["ok"]=> float(1) } Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

• Creating 1 page PDF of iPad Screen view - How?

  Hi All, I've asked this question on a couple other forums and have had zero response, so I'm hoping someone here can help point me in the right direction. I have a pretty simple one screen application for my work. It's basically just a recreation of a 1 page paper report that has a company logo, some labels, a few text boxes and a scroll text box for the report. I need to be able to fill out the report then click a button to save it in a graphical form so I can fax, print or email it later. Currently, I'm just programmatically taking a screen capture and saving it to the photo's library (default for screen capture). Then I can just email it from photo's. This works ok, but is kind of hacky, at best. I've read through the new iPad 3.2 guide for creating PDF's (apparently it's supposed to be much easier than before) but I can not get it to work and I've spent countless hours on it now. I'm hoping someone has the answer for me. Alternatively, if anyone knows how I can redirect where the screen capture is stored (default is in the photo album) then maybe I can make that function work. If I could redirect the screen capture to store in my applications document folder, then I can use MFMailCompose to attach it to an email. Lastly, on a side note, does anyone know of a good way to capture a digital signature via touch. For instance, I'd love to have my users be able to just sign their name via touch at the bottom of the document before I convert to PDF or take a screen capture. There is several textview I would like, at runtime, to set the first as bold, the second blue and italic for example, etc. I came up with this : TextView tv = new TextView(context); tv.setText(stringToDisplay); tv.setTextColor(0xa00050ff); // example tv.setTextSize(30); // example Bitmap b = loadBitmapFromView(tv); updateViews.setImageViewBitmap(R.id.id_of_the_imageview, b); with private static Bitmap loadBitmapFromView(View v) { Bitmap b = Bitmap.createBitmap(v.getLayoutParams().width, v.getLayoutParams().height, Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888); Canvas c = new Canvas(b); v.layout(0, 0, v.getLayoutParams().width, v.getLayoutParams().height); v.draw(c); return b; } but it wont work (NullPointerException on first line of loadBitmap), until I replace v.getLayoutParams().width, v.getLayoutParams().height by fixed sizes like 250, 50 Bitmap b = Bitmap.createBitmap(250, 50, Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888); // ... v.layout(0, 0, 250, 50); But that's not a good solution ... so I tried this : LayoutInflater li = (LayoutInflater) context.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); View row = li.inflate(R.layout.widget_text, null); TextView tv = (TextView) row.findViewById(R.id.id_of_the_textview); widget_text being a layout similar to the displayed one but with TextViews instead of ImageViews, in the hope to get some size information out of it .. but it's not working and I get this exception : 01-02 17:35:06.001: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(11025): Caused by: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: width and height must be > 0 on the call to Bitmap.createBitmap() so, someone could point me in the right direction?

• With ASP.NET MVC, what is the preferred way to Ajaxify a simple form?

  I am trying to add a simple comments/message box to a web page. When the user enters the comment and hits submit, I would like to save this message to the database and add the comment to the list displayed on the page, without refreshing the entire page. However, I am not sure of the best way to do that these days. I am using ASP.NET MVC 2. I have been trying to read up on using JQuery for this type of functionality, but I am having problems getting a full picture of the correct approach that isn't also out of date (i.e. it is using an preview version of MVC 1 or older version of JQuery). I can either find snippets of different pieces without the information of how they work together, or the information appears to be quite dated and no longer valid. Can someone point me in the right direction for something like this? Ideally, I am looking for a simple example of the JQuery code, a snippet of any key differences in an HTML form from a normal post method, and the basic method used in the MVC Controller. I need something to help the lightbulb of understanding to turn on. :) Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

The 2 support functions init() and parseResponse() can be found in the test.js link if you wish to view them, but should not be too relevant to this problem. I've affirmed that this.doAnotherAction() thinks "this" is the XMLHttpResponse object as expected from an instanceof test. Can anyone help with some insight on direction with binding? • Write to the second line of a PHP file

  I have a php file that I want to add an include path to on the second line. I need to open the file and inset a line of code on line 2. I have tried a few techniques none of which are working but I think it has something to do with the text I am trying to write and possibly not escaping character correctly as I am not too familiar with file writing. So here is the file I want to write to: $file = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'].'/'.$domaindir.'/test.php'; Here is the piece of text I want to insert into the file: $dbfile = "include('".$_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']."/".$domaindir."/web_".$dbname.".inc.php');"; Then what I was doing was a string replace but all it did was bump the "session_start();" bit to a newline! Can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial that might tell me how to insert this into the second line of my php file or indeed if anyone has any ideas? I can say for sure that the path to the PHP file is fully tested so i know its not that the file is not being open or written to. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• WP7 help with menu effects

  Kinda new to Silverlight and have some experience with WPF but I'm doing a project with a group for a class making a game for WP7. I am currently in charge of the menu system for the game and I had a few ideas for "flashy" menu transitions. I got some going for the main menu but I wanted to do something cool for the options submenu. Anyway my idea is to either fashion an expander or to have sort of a variation of a dialog box. But the way I envisioned it would be in either case the menu items blur but are still visible while the expanded menu is displayed or while the dialog is active. If I'm being confusing sorry :) but think of Windows 7 glass effect on the menu while other options are available. What I'm getting at is I want to give this a shot but I have no idea how I would go about doing something like this. Could anyone point me in the right direction or outline some key steps for me to build off? I tried finding something like this on Google but no such luck.
