• Is it possible to have a Shared/Static Dependency Property?

  [using VB.NET, but I can easily read C# code in responses] I have a class called QuestionClipboard with ALL shared methods/properties. I previously had a QuesitonClipboard.doesClipboardHaveContent function that returned true/false if there was a Object on my 'clipboard'. I'd prefer to implement a Dependency Property so I can allow this true/false value to participate in data binding. The "GetValue(dp as DependencyProperty)" method requires an object instance, which would mean that my Property CAN'T be shared! Here is what the code would look like in my perfect world... Of course, the word "Shared" before the property declaration renders this code useless. • Configuring Warden for use in RSpec controller specs

  I was able to use Devise's sign_in method to log in a user in my controller specs. But now that I'm removing Devise from my application, I'm not quite sure how to get similar functionality working with just Warden on its own. How should I go about setting up spec/spec_helper.rb and related spec/support/*.rb files to get Warden running within controller specs sufficiently? I've tried setting up a file at spec/support/warden.rb with these contents: RSpec.configure do |config| config.include Warden::Test::Helpers config.after do Warden.test_reset! end end Then I have before calls similar to this to authenticate a user factory: before { login_as FactoryGirl.create(:user) } But here is the error that I keep seeing: NameError: undefined method `user' for nil:NilClass This error traces back to my authenticate_user! method in the controller: def authenticate_user! redirect_to login_path, notice: "You need to sign in or sign up before continuing." if env['warden'].user.nil? end I'd appreciate any guidance that anyone could provide.

• Counting distinct and duplicate attribute values in an array

  I have an array of users that's sorted in descending order based on total_points. I need to find the rank of each user in that array. The issue is that more than one user can have the same total points and, thus, the same rank. For example, three users could be in 3rd place with 200 Points. • How to avoid automatic renaming of sub signature parameters in visual basic 6.

  In Visual basic 6, i declare a sub like this: Private Sub test1(ByRef XmlFooOutput As String) ... End Sub after that, i declare another sub like the following one: Private Sub test2(ByRef xmlFooOutput As String) ... End Sub automagically, the first method is transformed in: Private Sub test1(ByVal xmlFooOutput As String) ... End Sub so the XmlFooOutput parameter is transformed in xmlFooOutput. This is a pretty dangerous feature because, method like those could be mapped to different XSL presentation files that read XML values through Xpath. So when test1 parameter is renamed, XSL bound to test1 method goes broken because Xpath point to XmlFooOuput but the correct value is now in xmlFooOutput. Is it possible to remove this weird feature? I'm using microsoft visual basic 6.0 (SP6). • Using ffmpeg to cut up video

  I am using ffmpeg like this e.g.: ffmpeg -i input.wmv -ss 60 -t 60 -acodec copy -vcodec copy output.wmv to cut out a section of a large file. The -ss part works fine but the -t is ignored. That is, it correctly removes the first -ss seconds but then just keeps going to the end of the input with the copy. Is there a way to use ffmpeg to cut off the end of a video without recoding it?

• Codeigniter Image Library Cropping an Image with 2 sets of coordinates to make square anywhere?

  Spending time reading through the docs, and searching for examples. I understand cropping an image from top 0, and left 0 is pretty straight forward. However. I would like to pass 2 sets of coordinates, a starting point and an ending point. Four Points, a Square that is defined anywhere. However from the examples I am finding, and from what I gather the rendition is not going to let me do this. codeigniter so I am seeking confirmation on this thought, is it true that I can only provide end points from 0, and it crops a square based on said end points or can I actually specify an x start, an x end, and similar for y? Or is there some other technique I can use within codeigniter that will allow me to pass for coordinates for starting and ending points?

• Sharing a database connection with included classes in a Sinatra application

  I'm converting a part of a rails application to its own sinatra application. It has some beefy work to do and rather than have a million helps in app.rb, I've separated some of it out into classes. Without access to rails I'm rewriting finder several methods and needing access to the database inside of my class. What's the best way to share a database connection between your application and a class? Or would you recommend pushing all database work into its own class and only having the connection established there? • Sinatra not passing header with redirect

  Hi All I have a simple Sinatra proxy, which when an endpoint is called, will redirect to another endpoint on the same Sinatra proxy. When I make a request with a header, the proxy doesn't seem to pass this header through to the second endpoint when the request redirects in the first. • Rails table inheritance issue

  I've setup some models in the table inheritance fashion and everything seems to be all fine and dandy. But, when I use a collection select field to select values from one of the models it saves it but it saves the ID of the data and not the actual value of the data. So when I try to display the value on the show view it just shows the corresponding ID and not the actual value. Here is my setup. I'm using formtastic as a side note.   I am trying to get some Javascript working in my Rails app. I want to have my index page allow me to edit individual items on the index page, and then reload the index page upon edit. • Side effects of reordering columns in PostgreSQL

  I sometimes re-order the columns in my Postgres DB. Since Postgres can only add columns at the end of tables, I end up re-ordering by adding new columns at the end of the table, setting them equal to existing columns, and then dropping the original columns. My question is: what does PostgreSQL do with the memory that's freed by dropped columns? Does it automatically re-use the memory, so a single record consumes the same amount of space as it did beforehand? But that would require a re-write of the whole table, so to avoid that, does it just keep a bunch of blank space around in each record? Thanks! ~S
