  Heyy all, I needed some help with ONC RPC programming. My task is to create two-tier client-server architecture wherein one main server (something like a directory) keeps a track of level-two servers and acts as a lookup; the level-two servers exposing some trivial functions, and finally, the clients for level-two servers. The clients ask the directory where a server is located, and then communicate with it. Using RPCGEN, we can create a pair of client-server code; however, the clients in this case need to have stubs for the directory as well as the level-two functions. Being a newbie to RPC, I'm having trouble conceptualizing the way I should code this. How can I call a function from a different server if a client is generated using a different IDL ? • Need strategy to phone home to a Pyton web app and check licensing information for a commercial Wind

  What's a good strategy for building licensing checking into a Windows desktop app using a Python web application? This is a very open ended question because I don't have the slightest clue how to start to build this feature. What I do have is a number of general concerns: I have developed a commercial Windows desktop application and I want to make money from it but I don't want to build the licensing into the app since it's inevitable that someone will create a keygen or a crack, circulate it online and then it's 'game over' for me. So my idea was to create a web application where people could purchase a license key that is generated by the web app and every time the desktop application is started up, it will 'phone home' to the web app to check whether the license is valid and whether it seems to be in use at multiple locations. I'm just not sure how to do this. Would appreciate any general technical strategies and/or pointers to libraries/modules that might be of use.

  Hi, I am working with Entity Framework 4.0 (VS 2010 Beta 2, NOT RC). I can model the EDM and produce the required database. When I ask VS to generate the code for the model, it generates the expected .designer.cs file. When I look at the factory methods for each entity that the designer has generated, I've noticed that it doesn't include all of the properties of the entity. Is it correct to say that the factory method only includes properties that cannot be null ? This appears to be the case, but I'm not entirely sure. Thanks, Scott

  Hello. I had earlier asked whether I can remove un-utilized JavaScript code from ExtJS library. JSBuilder was the answer. What about being able to download widgets on-demand? I ask this because I have discovered this from the of markup generated by Coolite (ASP.Net framework that wraps ExtJS). So do I have to go through a meticulous process of splitting the library myself or is there a better way? BTW I'd like to avoid using Coolite.

  Hi, is there any chance of getting the output from a MySQL query directly to XML? Im referring to something like MSSQL has with SQL-XML plugin, for example: SELECT * FROM table WHERE 1 FOR XML AUTO returns text (or xml data type in MSSQL to be precise) which contains an XML markup structure generated according to the columns in the table. With SQL-XML there is also an option of explicitly defining the output XML structure like this: SELECT 1 AS tag, NULL AS parent, emp_id AS [employee!1!emp_id], cust_id AS [customer!2!cust_id], region AS [customer!2!region] FROM table FOR XML EXPLICIT which generates an XML code as follows: <employee emp_id='129'> <customer cust_id='107' region='Eastern'/> </employee> Do you have any clues how to achieve this in MySQL?   I have a model User and when I create one, I want to pragmatically setup some API keys and what not, specifically: @user.apikey = Digest::MD5.hexdigest(BCrypt::Password.create("jibberish").to_s) I want to be able to run User.create!(:email=>"[email protected]") and have it create a user with a randomly generated API key, and secret. I currently am doing this in the controller, but when I tried to add a default user to the seeds.rb file, I am getting an SQL error (saying my apikey is null). I tried overriding the save definition, but that seemed to cause problems when I updated the model, because it would override the values. I tried overriding the initialize definition, but that is returning a nil:NilClass and breaking things. Is there a better way to do this?

  I've just started using google charts and want to use it in a small project I'm workin on but I've bumped into a problem. The thing is I want the charts rather big at a static size and look good but I'm generating the charts dynamically with php. Now the problem is that I can't get it to scale properly in width but height is perfectly fine. Here's an example chart I've generated: Parameters: cht=bvo&chs=400x400 chd=t:1,4,1 chxr=2,0,4,1 chds=0,4 chco=4d89f9 chxt=x,x,y,y chxl=0:|3|7|26|1:|Correct+answers|3:|People You see how the chart fills the 400px of height but not the width. I've searched and look through the api but I can't get it right.

So I used CentOS 5.4 to compile the Mono sources and generated the Mono framework for CentOS and tested with some sample codes and I am satisfied. I want to transfer this compiled framework to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. How Can I do that? Do I have to compile the Mono framework statically or do I have to copy the linked libraries as well?   Here is the model we are using to store the CC details how secure does this look? All our information is encrypted using public key encryption and the keypair is user dependent (its generated on the server and the private key is symmetric encrypted using the users password which is also Hashed on the database) So basically on first run the user sends in his password via a SSL connection and the password is used with the addition of salt to generate an MD5 hash, also the password is used to encrypt the private key and the private key is stored on the server. When the user wants to make a payment, he sends his password. The password decrypts the private key, and the private key decrypts the CC details and the CC details are charged.

  Unless a class specifically overrides the behavior defined for Object, ReferenceEquals and == do the same thing... compare references. In property setters, I have commonly used the pattern private MyType myProperty; public MyType MyProperty { set { if (myProperty != value) { myProperty = value; // Do stuff like NotifyPropertyChanged } } } However, in code generated by Entity Framework, the if statement is replaced by if (!ReferenceEquals(myProperty, value)) Using ReferenceEquals is more explicit (as I guess not all C# programmers know that == does the same thing if not overridden). Is there any difference that's escaping me between the two if-variants? Are they perhaps accounting for the possibility that POCO designers may have overridden ==? In short, if I have not overridden ==, am I save using != instead of ReferencEquals()?

• How do I regenerate statistics in Openx?

  ue to faulty hardware, statistics generated over a 2 week period were significantly higher than normal (10000 times higher than normal). After moving the application to a new server, the problem rectified itself. The issue I have is that there are 2 weeks of stats that are clearly wrong. I have checked the raw impressions table for the affected fortnight and it seems to be correct (ie. stats per banner per day match the average for the previous month). Looking at the intermediate & summary impressions tables, the values are inflated. I understand from the openx forum (http://forum.openx.org/index.php?s=7796fd9dae40e020a010773746f3ada9&showtopic=503424297) it's possible to regenerate stats from the raw data but it will only regenerate stats per hour, meaning regenerating stats for 2 weeks would be very time consuming. Is there another, more efficient way to regenerate the stats from the raw data for the affected fortnight?

• Is it possible to tell IIS 7 to process the request queue in parallel?

  Currently we are developing an ASMX, ASP 2.0, IIS 7 web service that does some calculations (and return a dynamically generated document) and will take approx. 60 seconds to run. Since whe have a big machine with multiple cores and lots of RAM, I expected that IIS tries its best to route the requests that arrive in its requests queue to all available threads of the app pool's thread pool. But we experience quiet the opposite: When we issue requests to the ASMX web service URL from multiple different clients, the IIS seems to serially process these requests. I.e. request 1 arrives, is being processed, then request 2 is being processed, then request 3, etc. Question: Is it possible (without changing the C# code of the web service) to configure IIS to process requests in parallel, if enough threads are available? If yes: how should I do it? It no: any workarounds/tips? Thanks Uwe

• Django Per-site caching using memcached

  Hi, So I'm using per-site caching on a project and I've observed the following, which is kind of confusing. When I load a flat page in my browser then change it through admin and then do a refresh (within the cache timeout) there is no change in the page--as expected. However when I stat a new session in a different browser and load the page (still within the timeout) the app is hit instead of the cache, with the Isn't the cache key generated from the URL? it seems that the session state is getting in there somewhere, which is causing a cache miss. • C# WCF client configuration for X509 secured web service over https

  Hi guys I been pulling my hair out for the past few days trying to connect to a web service using .Net 3.5 and WCF (have also tried using WSE 3.0) without much luck. The web service is hosted by a 3rd party and we can access via https. They also make use of X509 certificates for security, to sign the message. I've been given some basic info and am able to connect and test the service using SOAP UI 3.5 without any problems, so we know that this is not the issue. Just trying to get it done in code! I've added the X509 certificate into the certificate store using the mmc snap-in, and using tracing and logging i can see that the message is being signed, just unable to see which part i have got wrong. Any healp GREATLY appreciated :) I've been given an offline WSDL file, which I have imported in as a service reference is VS 2008. • asp.net InsertCommand to return latest insert ID

  Dear all, I'm unable to retrieve the latest inserted id from my SQL Server 2000 db using a typed dataset in asp.NET I have created a tableadapter and I ticked the "Refresh datatable" and "Generate Insert, Update and Delete statements". This auto-generates the Fill and GetData methods, and the Insert, Update, Select and Delete statements. I have tried every possible solution in this thread http://forums.asp.net/t/990365.aspx but I'm still unsuccesfull, it always returns 1(=number of affected rows). I do not want to create a seperate insert method as the auto-generated insertCommand perfectly suits my needs. As suggested in the thread above, I have tried to update the InsertCommand SQL syntax to add SELECT SCOPY_IDENTITY() or something similar, I have tried to add a parameter of type ReturnValue, but all I get is the number of affected rows. • Relying on nhibernate's second level cache vs pushing objects into the session

  I have some big entities which are frequently accessed in the same session. For example, in my application there is a reporting page which consist of dynamically generated chart images. For each chart image on this page, the client makes requests to corresponding controller and the controller generates images using some entities. I can either use asp.net's session dictionary for "caching" those entities or rely on nhibernate's second level cache support with using cached queries for example. What is your opinion? By the way I will use shared hosting, is nhibernate's second level cache hosting friendly? Thanks.

  Hello, I made a CheckboxList and it will not line up. I don't see any way to control the generated HTML. Right now, the check boxes do not align due to the widths of the <td> of each checkbox label being an automatic width. How can I set the width of this and make all the labels and checkboxes appear in two vertical aligned columns?   Hello, i need some help with c# and nhibernate. I'm working on a project that requires the entity classes to be generated from hbm files at runtime. I get the mapping files from a service, and then need to generate the classes dynamicaly and configure nhibernate to use them. The problem is that i'm new to nhibernate and not much of a pro in c#, so me writing the piece of code that achieves this is very error-prone. I was wondering if you know of any open source software that i could use. Worst case scenario (if can't find anything that even remotely resembles what i need), do you guys have some advice on where should i start? Maybe some links ? Thanks, Denis.

root's .profile and .shrc, tmux works perfectly. Occasionally (twice out of the 50 or so times I've tested it), the splitting will work fine once in a session. (This happened for example when I ran ktrace on tmux, which I can also post) To explain the 'suddenly' part of the title: when I started my newly updated mysql56-server, tmux immediately exited and lost the session. Recently I changed architectures, from FreeBSD 10.0 i386 to amd64, and I am still working through shared library incompatibilities. I suspect that this could be involved, but I can't imagine how an incompatibility of this sort could result in such a specific, isolated failure.
