• I can not install Ubuntu 14.04 due to some problem?

  I have installed Window 8.1 on my HP laptop.Now I want to install Ubuntu 14.04,I try to use "Wubi" but when I use it, after installation on window, when my computer restart i have a message "No root file system is defined" I have read some thread here and i got some solution. One of them are "I must format my partition again, using ext4 format and mount on it". I did it by using Gparted in Try Ubuntu mode, but I got another message "/dev/sda contains GPT signatures,indicating that it has a GPT table. However, it does not have a valid fake msdos partition table,as it should. Perhaps it was corrupted--possibly by a program that does not understand GPT partition table. Or perhaps you deleted the GPT table, and are now using msdos partition table. Is this a GPT partition table?"

• Not enough space left in the hard drive. How to proceed?

  Where do I begin... I can hardly do anything on Ubuntu 12.04. I am very close to removing and returning to Windows. First I could not load it because the graphics appeared to be running low but somehow that stopped happening and I could log on. Now I can not download anything or I get this message Cannot write: No space left on device. I tried trouble shooting this issue but every time I try and fix the problem I am blocked by this message E: Write error - write (28: No space left on device) E: Can't mmap an empty file E: Failed to truncate file - ftruncate (9: Bad file descriptor) E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. $ OLD=$(ls -tr /boot/vmlinuz-* | head -n -2 | cut -d- -f2- | awk '{print "linux-image-" $0}') Ubuntu is also running incredibly slow and I cant get anything done! • Cannot save all of the property settings for this Web Part.

  I would like to display all the items of custom content type of Animals in a SharePoint content query WebPart. After choosing the appropriate values in the web part editor and click on Save I got this error: Cannot save all of the property settings for this Web Part. There is a problem with one or more of the field values below. But when I examine all the values below , it does not flag any error information. I finally manage to locate the error flag after I expand the presentation section. I then delete the text in the Link textbox , now I can save the settings. However , I think the error message should have been more specific so that users can quickly locate the error. The worst part for this is that I did not even change anything in the presentation section, I merely configure the Source in the Query section. Well, I guess I am still new to SharePoint, I just have to get used to these generic error message ):

• My laptop shuts down when I remove the charger

  Laptop shuts down when charger is removed. As well I get a message when booting up saying disk drive for /media/3936-3939 is not ready or not present. About a week ago I was trying to install a matlab iso file using mount commands etc... I tried mount, fuseiso, and UNETbootin. I have a feeling this may have something to do with message I'm getting from booting up. If anyone can point me in the right direction or help me out. Many thanks.

  Problem I have a big state machine. The design requirements of the project have changed such that I need to re-use this state machine in another place. All the states remain the same in this new place, but a few states run slightly different stuff. What design pattern allows me to reuse this state machine? Motivation I am building a video player. It is modeled by a state machine with these states: stopped, loading, playing, paused, crashed, and some more... This video player needs to be used on two web pages. When the player crashes on the first page, it should show an error message below. If the player crashes on the second page, the error message should appear in the center of the video and pulsate a few times.

• How to re-enable tray icons for applications in ubuntu 13.10?

  Unfortunately in new Ubuntu 13.10 there is no Tray Icon and Whiteliting is removed. The older solutions are not works for me, e.g.: No such schema 'com.canonical.Unity.Panel' message answered when I try to use the gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['all']" comand. How can I get tray icons back (for applications that put icon in tray like Truecrypt, Pidgin, Aqualung, gnome-system-monitor, gyache, and so many more...) in Unity ? The most annoying is that the user loses control over applications can not detect itself that it has no tray icon... (e.g.: gnome-system-monitor, truecrypt...) At least Aqalung send a message about unable to put icon on systray! Thanks

• WCF Routing Service Filter Generator

  Recently I've been working with the WCF routing service and in our case we were simply routing based on the SOAP Action. This is a pretty good approach for a standard redirection of the message when all messages matching a SOAP Action will go to the same endpoint. Using the SOAP Action also lets you be specific about which methods you expose via the router. One of the things which was a pain was the number of routing rules I needed to create because we were routing for a lot of different methods. I could have explored the option of using a regular expression to match the message to its routing but I wanted to be very specific about what's routed and not risk exposing methods I shouldn't via the router. I decided to put together a little spreadsheet so that I can generate part of the configuration I would need to put in the configuration file rather than have to type this by hand. To show how this works download the spreadsheet from the following url: https://s3.amazonaws.com/CSCBlogSamples/WCF+Routing+Generator.xlsx In the spreadsheet you will see that the squares in green are the ones which you need to amend. In the below picture you can see that you specify a prefix and suffix for the filter name. The core namespace from the web service your generating routing rules for and the WCF endpoint name which you want to route to. In column A you will see the green cells where you add the list of method names which you want to include routing rules for. The spreadsheet will workout what the full SOAP Action would be then the name you will use for that filter in your WCF Routing filters. In column D the spreadsheet will have generated the XML snippet which you can add to the routing filters section in your configuration file. In column E the spreadsheet will have created the XML snippet which you can add to the routing table to send messages matching each filter to the appropriate WCF client endpoint to forward the message to the required destination. Hopefully you can see that with this spreadsheet it would be very easy to produce accurate XML for the WCF Routing configuration if you had a large number of routing rules. If you had additional methods in other services you can simply copy the worksheet and add multiple copies to the Excel workbook. One worksheet per service would work well.

• WSS Fails Installing On Step 5 Of The SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard

  I've attempted to install WSS 3.0 with SP1 several times as both stand-alone and server farm with no luck on Windows Server 2008.  When I get to step 5 of Configuration wizard it begin installing and publishing services but on Step 5 I get the message "Failed To Register Sharepoint Services". The detail behind this message reads "An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException was thrown". Then I Run the command psconfig -cmd configdb -create -database <whatever_unique_name> Click on Start / All Programs / Administrative Tools / SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard Should work now (it did with me). PS: This was done on a Virtual Machine (VMware)

  I'm trying to install Socialengine (clean install, empty database, legal license key), but I ran into this error message at Step 3 of the installation: Step 3: Setup MySQL Database Mysqli statement execute error : Prepared statement needs to be re-prepared I found a troubleshooting artice about "Bug in MySQLi Extension Causes Apache 500 Error" at http://www.socialengine.net/blog/article?id=161&article=Bug-in-MySQLi-Extension-Causes-Apache-500-Error I uploaded the fixed file and try to install again, but it still doesn't work. • VirtualBox install

  I am using Win 7 Ultimate. I have the current version of Virtualbox. I downloaded Ubuntu 12.10 from the Ubuntu website and the install as disc image. Ubuntu probably goes thru about 75% of the install and then I get an error message saying that there is a hardware issue and cannot continue. The error message also says it cannot read the disc, etc, etc. I have downloaded 2 different versions of Ubuntu. I had downloaded and re-installed VirtualBox twice. I also tried 12.04 but came into the same issue. I downloaded the "desktop AMD-64" Thank you in advance for your help.

• Check if the vector is behind another or maybe opposite directions?

  I'm doing a network game and on the client side, i interpolate the client position with the server sent extrapolated position. The client has its own physics simulation wich is corrected by the server in steps. The problem is when it laggs and i 'kick' the ball, the server gets a delayed message and sends me the position backwards of the client position wich makes the ball goes back and forth. I want to ignore those and maybe compensate that on the server, not sure though. The problem is the clock difference on those case are 0.07ms or 0.10 ms wich isn't that high to ignore the message i guess. When i get the server position, i extrapolate with the clock interval * serverBallVelocity Can i check if my new ball server position is behind my actual ball vector position? I tried to use the dot product after normalized the two vectors to check if they are opposite but it ain't working properly. Any suggestions on checking that?

  I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with ATI proprietary FGLRX graphic drivers When I boot, I can see this very quick message appearing; I don't have time to read it: **Fatal Error ..................................**(&@something i cant read) I searched through the log file in /var/log/ in order to find what is wrong and I did find something in the /var/log/Xorg.1.log: 21:31:08 [ 15.734] (--) using VT number 1 [ 204.647] Fatal server error: [ 204.647] xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call [ 204.647] [ 204.647] Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support at http://wiki.x.org for help. [ 204.647] Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.1.log" for additional information. [ 204.647] But this is already Xorg.1.log. And there is a Xorg.0.log also & Xorg.0.log.old but it doesnt have any error in it. My system seems to work properly and it seems its not affected by this But how do I correct this message? Any suggestions?

• 12.04 cannot boot from USB

  The HP Pavilion g6 notebook is unable to boot from bootable USB stick created with Linux Live USB Creator. I was able to boot other systems using the same pendrive. I have changed the boot priority using F10. When I restarted, it didn't ask for any message like Press any key to boot from When I press F19, and selected the pendrive from the available options to boot from, while restarting it gives me a message: error while trying to boot selected boot image Though I looked into the possible suggestions here, none of them worked. Looking for any help? EDIT: I was able to fix the first issue, i'e ubuntu could be installed as secure boot option in the bios was not allowing the pendrive or cd/dvd to be detected. Now once i have successfully installed ubuntu 12.04, after the restart i was unable to find it in the os menu for selection and windows8 loaded by default Ubuntu version: 12.04

• My Herokuapp is inaccessible from custom domain name

  I have a Heroku app that is located at myapp.herokuapp.com. I have mapped a domain name to this app, using the A properties. I followed the instructions on Heroku's website to the letter, and it worked for a few days. Now when I try to access the site from the custom domain, it's timing out! On Chrome, I am getting "Oops! Google Chrome could not find that page!" message. I tried pinging the name as well, but I got this error: ping: cannot resolve yourhostname.org: Unknown host The app itself is working and I don't see any error messages from Heroku. Or from new Relic. What's going on here? Also tried running host and this was the error message: ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

• Can my machine run Ubuntu( kubuntu | xubuntu | mint ) 12.04 WELL?

  I have a 9 year old computer packing the hardware listed below. My question is, can I run 12.04 ( Ubuntu, Kubuntu, MINT or Xubuntu ) WELL? I was running Ubuntu 10.10 and I upgraded to 12.04 by going through each release via the update manager: 11.04 - 11.10 -12.04 During the installation process for 12.04 I saw an error message that there was an error installing and setting up part of the kernel. Later, when I tried installing a package in synaptic, I got another error message mentioning the kernel. When I rebooted, I got told somehting about my video and graphics was not configured properly and that I would have to do it manually ( like I know ). It gave me the option to enter the system in low graphics mode, but it just hanged. I had an old livecd of Xubuntu 10.10 around so I used that to get into my computer and copy data over to an external hard drive. I think tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 from the livecd, with the option "download updates" checked. The install process moved along a bit, then halted for about 5 hours. I rebooted my machine and tried the Xubuntu 10.10 installer WITHOUT the option to "download updates". The install completed in about 15 minutes. So, all of that is making me wonder if there is someting about 12.04 that does not like my hardware. I'm willing to try again, but only if I know I will not have to spend hours just to get to an error message and a hosed up system like I did last night. I also think I have a lot more RAM than is being reported in the output below. I had extra ram installed last year. I'm not good with the command line readouts, but there seems like there should be a lot more. I wasn't thrilled with Unity. I am willing to try Kubuntu 12.04. Will I run into the same problems? What is the highest version of a *ubuntu can I upgrade to? • Handle php out of memory error

  I have a Drupal based web site on a relative small vserver (512MB RAM). Recently the website begins to return php out of memory messages like this: Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 17039360) (tried to allocate 77824 bytes) in /home/... All php.ini memory limit parameters are set to off (-1). Propably the website has gained of complexity, content, etc. But I cannot interpret fine that message: Does that mean that the whole request has allocated 17MB(?) right now and cannot get 7MB(?) more from the OS. Has the web server spend all memory or has the OS no more memory to allocate ? I'm not shure if the memory overhead is coming from the web server or another service, because when I get the out-of-memoy message I can't get into the server with ssh. After a while all runs fine again.

  Certain windows are not opening in the last position/size I used them at. Opening "compose a message" with evolution through the message menu on the toolbar opens a window that is always in the top left of my screen. Opening Firefox 4.0 always opens maximized, even if i last used it in "windowed" mode. Other things I've tried that won't remember my custom positions: ccsm, terminal, gedit, sound recorder, calculator. Some other stuff works fine like banshee, empathy, shutter, deluge. Is this a bug? Is there a way to make these applications open in their last used positions/sizes?

• Unable to mount Windows (NTFS) filesystem due to hibernation

  Whenever I boot Ubuntu, I get a message that it cannot mount my windows partition, and I can choose to either wait, skip or manually mount. When I try to enter my Windows partition through Nautilus I get a message saying that this partition is hibernated and that I need to enter the file system and properly close it, something I have done with no problem so I don't know why this happens. Here's my partition table, if any more data is needed please let me know. • Issue in upgrading Zenity

  I am currently using Ubuntu 12.04 I am attempting to install steam using the post in omgubuntu. However, I am running into problems when the command sudo dpkg -i steam.deb && sudo apt-get install -f. I get the message that the version of Zenity is too low. The minimum required version is 3.4.0-0ubuntu4 while I currently have 3.4.0-0ubuntu2 I tried sudo apt-get install zenity but it does not update it and gives the following message: zenity is already the newest version. I also tried installing via the ubuntuupdates website for the latest version of Zenity, but it still does not work.Ubuntu Software Centre indicates that it is already installed and provides no option to update. :( Any idea how to update Zenity in my system?

  In my early days of programming I often used to get memory related fatal errors in the following format: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of <some big number> bytes exhausted (tried to allocate <some small number> bytes) in /path/to/filename.php on line <some line number> I'm a little embarrassed to state that even though I have figured out how to solve them and take steps to avoid them altogether, I'm still not quite sure what exactly does the message translate to in simple words. For example, if I get a message such as: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 4000 bytes) in ........ on line 34 As things stand at the moment, I assume it to be stating that the script consumes 67108864 bytes of data, but only 4000 bytes are available during runtime. Am I right in my assumption? If not, what's the correct interpretation?
