  Hello everybody, I am looking into improving my programming skils (actually I try to do my best to suck less each year, as our Jeff Atwood put it), so I was thinking into reading stuff about metaprogramming and self explanatory code. I am looking for something like an idiot's guide to this (free books for download, online resources). Also I want more than your average wiki page and also something language agnostic or preferably with Java examples. Do you know of such resources that will allow to efficiently put all of it into prectice (I know experience has a lot to say in all of this but i kind of want to build experience avoiding the flow bad decitions - experience - good decitions)? • How do I prevent Eclipse from hanging on startup?

  I am using Eclipse 3.3 ("Europa"). Periodically, Eclipse takes an inordinately long time (perhaps forever) to start up. The only thing I can see in the Eclipse log is: !ENTRY org.eclipse.core.resources 2 10035 2008-10-16 09:47:34.801 !MESSAGE The workspace exited with unsaved changes in the previous session; refreshing workspace to recover changes. Googling reveals someone's suggestion that I remove the folder: workspace\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resources\.root\.indexes This does not appear to have helped. Short of starting with a new workspace (something which I am not keen to do, as it takes me hours to set up all my projects again properly), is there a way to make Eclipse start up properly?

  Hello! I'm seeking for solution how to isolate widget included by partial to main site. Issue appear when user access site with https. Ie 6,7 shows security confirmation dialog (part of website resources are not in secure zone). First of all I download twitter widget on our side, also I download all CSS and pictures. Then I patched widget JS to point onto downloaded resources. But still has not luck with security warning :( I guess the reason of this issue is AJAX request to twitter, but there is no idea how to sole it. (Just to create some kind of proxy on our side). • How can I determine in silverlight code where the silverlight instance is running?

  I have a silverlight app. When I develop I have it pick up its data from a local URL: http://localhost/theapp/data/... however, when it is online, I want it to pick up its data from an online URL: http://www.tanguay.info/... Currently I have a variable which I switch before I compile and upload: bool silverlightAppIsLive = true; which I use to determine whether or not to get data from the first or second URL above. Is there a way for me to determine this automatically in code without setting the variable manually?

• Getting libjpeg/libTIFF.dylib error after recompiling php in OS X 10.6.3 Server

  I've recompiled php 5.3.0 under OS X Server (10.6.3) in order to gain Freetype support in GD. As part of the process, I recompiled libjpeg-8a (and before that I tried libjpeg-7). But when I run apachectcl configtest, I get the following error: httpd: Syntax error on line 155 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Cannot load /usr/libexec/apache2/mod_auth_user_host_apple.so into server: dlopen(/usr/libexec/apache2/mod_auth_user_host_apple.so, 10): Symbol not found: __cg_jpeg_resync_to_restart\n Referenced from: /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/ImageIO.framework/Versions/A/Resources/libTIFF.dylib\n Expected in: /usr/lib/libJPEG.dylib\n in /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/ImageIO.framework/Versions/A/Resources/libTIFF.dylib I don't really understand the error. Is there anyone who could help me figure out how to fix it? In php the gd library now seems unaware of libjpeg support.

  our client needs to shortcuts to particular pages We need to redirect non existent urls like http://site.com/promotion1 to the actual URL similar to http://site.com/promotions/promotion1/tabid/799/language/en-AU/Default.aspx ... I've sent a list of appropriate DNN modules to our client but it may take them forever to get back to me. In the mean time they still submitting requests to us to create redirects for them. if there's no cost involved then i wont have to wait for them to get back to me. so I'm looking for a Quick and free way to enable the clients to set these up on this own.   I'm writing a fairly big interface using Silverlight. As I progress, the xaml file is getting fairly big and is becoming proportionally uglier. Questions Are there any resources out there to make the xaml more readable? For example, how would I display the order of attributes (e.g. height and Width first) so that it looks the most tidy? Another issue is that there are multiple ways to implement an interface with grids and stack panels. Is there a preferred approach when using one or the other? I am looking for advice and links to other resources that can be used as examples.

  Hi guys I'm trying to integrate simple machines forum into my custom made membership website. I'm using the SMF API which is available here at http://download.simplemachines.org/?tools. The thing is that its working on my localhost testing server - however on my online server where the system is hosted - its not working. I have set it up so that when the user log into my own custom CMS membership site, he/she is logged in automatically to his/her corresponding account on the forum. However it works on my localhost but online its not working at all.. I log into my site and then browse to the forum to find out I havent been logged in there :( - I think its not creating the cookies or registering the session.. where should I look here. Please do help.

  This piece of code used to work in MVC 1 but it does not since I upgraded to MVC 2: <%=Html.ActionLink(Resources.Localize.Routes_WidgetsCreate, "Create" + "?modal=true", "Widget", null, new { rel = "shadowbox;height=600;width=700", title = Resources.Localize.Routes_WidgetsCreate })%> I am aware it has something to do with the way ActionLink encodes things, so the result that comes out is something like this: "http://localhost:53704/Widget/Create%3fmodal%3dtrue" The problem is, when clicked, the Shadowbox modal opens up and inside, where the request View should be rendered is this exception: Server Error in '/' Application. A potentially dangerous Request.Path value was detected from the client (?). What can I do to get past that? Do you recommend another way of sending params to the view besides in QueryString (in this case I need "modal" because in the view I select CSS styles based on whether we are rendering modal or not)?

• Buddypress on local server install has issues

  I have buddypress working nicely on a server, however I can't display the 'members' page or any individual profile page on a local webserver install I have made. If I try and visit /members/ I just get redirected back to the main buddypress page. I also just noticed online members never shows whose online and the link to the default blog on the main page is listed as http://localhost.localdomain/mu/BP_HOME_BLOG_SLUG which seems to indicate to me that BP_HOME_BLOG_SLUG is undefined, I can't find where it gets set or defined, not sure if these two problems are related to the other problems. No idea what's causing it, I've been pouring over the php files but haven't even gotten a clue, any suggestions on what I could do?

  I want to specify a custom icon for a makrer. Sadly, the icon that I chose is not displayed.   I have an Flex 4 application that I am developing in Flash Builder 4. I'm trying to use a library developed by a coworker, which was delivered as an SWC. I added the library to the Library Path in the project properties. Component set: MX + Spark, Framework linkage: Merged into code. When I attempt to instantiate a component from this library, I get the following error: unable to add archive file: [library].swc$locale\en_US\..\..\resources\images\AcceptButton.png (The system cannot find the path specified) When I unzip [library].swc, the image does exist in .\resources\images\AcceptButton.png as I would expect. Any suggestions to go about resolving this would be much appreciated.

If a task has ([A-Z]) next to, that defines the task's priority. • Rewriting subdomain to subfolder with htaccess

  I'm attempting to use .htaccess in the root folder of an Ubuntu/Apache2 server in order to mask a subdomain to subfolder and I keep getting a 500 Internal Error. I know that I'm doing something stupidly wrong and it is some silly error causing the problem. I've checked all of the similar threads on SO and online and whenever I try their advice the 500 continues. Here's my code. RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^admin\.mydomain\.com.*$ RewriteRule (.*) intranet/$1 [L] What I want to occur is that if a user visits admin.mydomain.com they will get the contents of the folder admin.mydomain.com/intranet/ but their URL bar will still be admin.mydomain.com. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? In addition, some of the threads online talked about possible problems with this system. Is this the best way of doing this masking, should I be using a vhost setup?

Is there a way to specify which sequence Django has to use for an AutoField? In the documentation I read I was not able to find an answer.

• Delphi 7 compile error - “Duplicate resource(s)” between .res and .dfm

Duplicate resource(s): [Error] Type 10 (RCDATA), ID TFMMAINTQUOTE: [Error] File P:\[PATH SNIPPED]\Manufacturing.RES resource kept; file FMaintQuote.DFM resource discarded. Manufacturing.res is the default resource file (application is called Manufacturing.exe), and FMainQuote is one of the forms. .dfm files are plain text files, so I'm not sure what resources is being duplicated, how to find it and fix it? If I tried to compile the project again, it works OK, but the exe's icon is different to the one I've set in Project Options using the "Load Icon" button. The icon on the app is some sort of bell image that I don't recognize.
