Thrift,.NET,Cassandra - Is this is right combination?

I've been evaluating technology stack for developing a social network based application. Below are the stack I think could well suitable for this application type of application: GUI -- ASP.NET MVC, Flash (Flex) Business Services -- Thrift based services One of the advantage of using Thrift is to solve scaling problems that will come in future when the user base increases rapidly. All the business logic can be exposed as a services using REST,JSON etc., This also allows us to go with C++ or Erlang based services when situation demands. Database -- mySQL, CasSandara mySQL can be used for storing the data which needs to be persisted. Cassandara will be used for storing global identifiers to the persisted data. Since Cassandara is also very good at scaling by introducing more nodes this will leverage Thrift based services as well. And also there is native support between Cassandara and Thrift Cache Server -- Memcached Any requests from Business Services will only talk to Memcached if any non-dirty data is required, otherwise there will be some background jobs that will invalidate the cache from database. The question is: Is the Thrift which is open-sourced one is production-ready? Is it the right stack for services layer to choose when the application (GUI) is primarily gets developed in ASP.NET and DB is mysql? Is there any other caveats that anyone here experienced? One of the main objective behind this stack is to easily scale up with more nodes and also this helps us to use Linux boxes, it will reduce our cost significantly Thoughts please ..

jQuery datepicker returns "inst is null" error when loaded via AJAX

I'm loading content via an AJAX call into a table row added to the DOM on the fly. I'm calling the datepicker functionality in my callback function and the calendar shows fine. However, when I click on the date, I get an error: inst is null. jquery tab switching links so they jump to top of page?

I was given some great help by redsquare to get this far to change jquery tabs from links within the content, but I have one more issue that I'm looking for support on... When a user clicks a link to switch to a different tab from within the content, can i get the page to jump to the top of the page? Within my demo link, scroll to the bottom of the page to click the links and they switch tabs just perfectly, which you can confirm if you scroll up. So, I'm looking for the switch to also jump the user to the top of the page, so the user doesn't have to "scroll" to the top of the page to begin reading new content. The problem I'm having is some content loads with links which are intended to load content into a secondary window. I'm using the .live() method to allow jquery to listen for new links loaded into the primary content div. This works until the .ajax() method is called for these fresh links loaded with ajax, where the method begins, but follows the original link before data can be received. I'm assuming the problem is in the client-side scripting, but it may be a problem with the call made to the server. I'm using the wordpress loop to parse the url and generate the html loaded via jquery. Thanks for any tips!

Blockchain API, AJAX request has stopped working, CORS issues?

I've been playing with the multiple address look up API from blockchain info (documented here https://blockchain.info/api/blockchain_api), I had my code working earlier in the day but bizzarely it's stopped. The purpose of it is to eventually write a little JQuery library which will search the DOM for bitcoin addresses as data attributes and then insert the final balance into that element creating a polling mechanism to keep the page updated as well. The original problem I ran into earlier while developing it was because it's a CORS ajax request but later I adjusted the query per the blockchain info API documents and I added cors=true it then seemed to work fine but now it doesn't seem to want to work at all again. I don't get how changing computers would effect this kind of request. JQuery BlockUI - How to unblock UI after file download?

Using ASP.Net, JQuery and BlockUI, I'm trying to unblock the UI after a download file dialog is shown. I have considered different options: Poll using Ajax calls to see if the file has been generated. Store the file in Session and redirect to same page and generate download then. But both options seem ackward, and I think there must be a clever JavaScript way to get a handle on or wait for a file dialog. Any suggestions?

Please suggest how should I approach these requirements. What ready-to-use solutions (modules) are best suited to achieve something like this: What I need is an image library that has searchable, tagged images that are already resized when we publish them. If the author searches the library and the image he needs isn’t there, he can upload one and have it added to the index. The important thing is that images in the library can be sorted into three categories: News images, top story images and feature images so that, over time, we don’t end up with hundreds of images crammed into one folder, thus making browsing a pain (and to prevent someone from something like: Searching for a keyword so they can find an image for the news, picking an image, and then seeing it’s 1600X. 1200). Also, I need something which will assemble thumbnail galleries easily. I don’t want to have to go to the image library, get a URL, go back, paste it in, etc. I should be able to pick, say, 8 images and say “create gallery”. How this objective is achieved is flexible, but I am looking for a shortcut to get around assembling screenshot galleries by hand.

Using Jquery UI Tab control in ASP.NET MVC

I am new to jquery and am trying out UI plugins. For some reason this following code does not work, in the sense, it does not render the tabs and it's just a bunch of text. But when I copy the page source and paste it in the html page, and put it in the views folder, everything looks great, so , I assume all the js paths are good. Hello I have a sign up form that is displayed to all new site visitors. If a user fills out the form, the next time they visit the site, I would like to display a "welcome back" message where the form would usually sit. I am trying to do this via the jquery cookie plugin (http://plugins.jquery.com/project/Cookie). Clickable LI overrules links within the LI

Hello guys and gals... I have a LI with some information, including some links. I would like jQuery to make the LI clickable, but also remain the links in the LI. The Clickable part works. I just need the links within to work as well. NOTE: They work if you right click and choose "Open in new tab". Detect Autocomplete

Hello, I have some forms that have inlined labels. I have some javascript (jQuery) that detects when focus has changed or when a user is entering text that changes the class so that the inlined label disappears and isn't blocking the user's view of their entered text. The problem I'm having occurs when the browser autocompletes the form. None of the conditions below are triggered so I can't clear out the inlined label. How can I detect the fact that text has been entered via autocomplete so that I can clear the labels? How to print data form C#

I've searched Stackoverflow and google and found many ways how I can print stuff in C#. The best way for me would be to populate blank white windows form with some label, textbox and picturebox elements and print it as a windows form. This way is very poor because it prints in 72 DPI, and is not flexible for multiple pages print. Next way that I found that would be good is using iTextSharp, but there is a problem that iTextSharp only generates PDF-s, and you have to open it in PDF viewer and print from there. I love this way of thinking where I create a paragraph, and then fill it with text and graphic, so I found this thread http://www.devarticles.com/c/a/C-Sharp/Printing-Using-C-sharp/ where it discusses how to create your own printing engine in C#, something like iTextSharp, but very lightweight... Now that I've said that, I want to know is there any ready to use printing engine that would be like iTextSharp, made for printing, not for PDF generation? What is the best way to print something, without using reporting services like CrystalReports. I think Crystal Reports wouldn't work for my case cause I don't want to print generic reports, but some text and graphics that I need to dynamicaly generate every time I need to print.

jQuery AutoComplete Plugin not working for JSON Response (sValue.substring is not a function)

I'm trying to use the autocomplete plugin for jQuery (this one http://docs.jquery.com/Plugins/Autocomplete). How to send set of data for Ajax call from jquery with php at the serverside?

I basically have to do a update of a record. I have a set of controls like textbox, list box, radio button etc. Then i have a button on click of which i need to carry all the updated data into mysql database with a ajax request without page refresh. I am using the php with codeigniter as my serverside code. On client side i am able to send the ajax request like $(document).ready(function(){ $('#users_menu').click( function(){ $('#tempdiv').load('http://localhost//web1/index.php/c1',null); } ); }); In the above code the request is placed to a server side php page where i am not able to read the values of the control values (values of textbox, listbox etc). Now this means i should be sending the list with the request. But i am not aware of how to send this request. jQuery Drag/Drop problem: mousemove Event not binding for some elements

Using the latest jQuery/UI that are hosted at Google. Should I be trapping the mousemove event in some other way? Edit: It appears as thought the mousemove() event isn't binding for earlier elements than the one currently being dragged (should be bound upon their mouseover).

Poco SocketReactors for a Proxy Server

Can anyone give me some idea of the best way to implement a non-blocking proxy server using a Poco Socket Reactor? Currently I have a blocking implementation where if a readable notification arrives from the client I am writing what is read directly to the server, and if a readable notification arrives from the server I am writing what is read directly to the client. To achieve this I keep the thread that initiated the server connection alive but I would prefer to switch to non-blocking and have any threads which are used to initiate a connection removed once the server and client sockets are registered with the reactor and the SOCKS5 handshake is over. With a SocketReactor one can register event handlers for a single socket but the trouble is I would need to store whatever is read from that socket in a global buffer until the corresponding server socket is ready to be written to as from my testing I dont seem to be able to just write directly to the server when client data arrives. I am thinking of using a struct that contains the client socket, server socket, client buffer and server buffer and whenever a writable notification comes along for either the client or server, finding the corresponding buffer and writing this. Any thoughts?

Is it possible to show a large (i.e. bigger than a thumbnail) jpeg image in the right-hand side of jqGrid's edit form ? Users want to look at a photo while entering data into fields ... they are describing things in the photo. Virtual Earth (Bing) Pin "moves" when zoom level changes

Hi guys, Created a Virtual Earth (Bing) map to show a simple pin at a particular point. Everything works right now - the pin shows up, the title and description pop up on hover. The map is initially fully zoomed into the pin, but the STRANGE problem is that when I zoom out it moves slightly lower on the map. So if I started with the pin pointing somewhere in Toronto, if I zoom out enough the pin ends up i the middle of Lake Ontario! If I pan the map, the pin correctly stays in its proper location. When I zoom back in, it moves slightly up until it's back to its original correct position! I've looked around for a solution for a while, but I can't understand it at all. Please help!! Uploadify - Passing Information Back to The Original Form

I have an Send.aspx page that has an uploadify control on it. Upload.ashx handles the file upload. I am adding a file record to a sql database in the Upload.ashx file and I need to get the ID of that record back from Upload.aspx when it is done. Can't get it working with Sessions. =( Something to do with an Adobe bug? What would the best way to handle this be? ASP.NET MVC2: Client-side validation not working with Start.js

Ok, this is strange. I would hope it's something I'm doing wrong and not that MS has two technologies that simply don't work together. (UPDATE: See bottom of post for Script tag order in HEAD section) I'm trying to use the dataView template and client-side validation.
