  I've always thought of the if not x is None version to be more clear, but Google's style guide implies (based on this excerpt) that they use if x is not None. Is there any minor performance difference (I'm assuming not), and is there any case where one really doesn't fit (making the other a clear winner for my convention)?* *I'm referring to any singleton, rather than just None. ...to compare singletons like None. Use is or is not.

• UpdateLayout throwing an ambigious exception

  the stack trace displays my method's name then "external code" then app_unhandledexception method, I'm developing within VS2008 SP1 for silverlight on firefox and windows 7(if that makes a difference). the weird thing is, the updatelayout method is called elsewhere and it generates no exception there, that said, if I put the method within a try-catch clause, it doesn't catch the exception, so if anyone has an idea, I'd appreciate it.

  Hi there, can anyone explain why named anchor tags would not work in safari but work fine in other browsers: ie, ff, opera, chrome. I have some links to different areas of the same page and nothing happens when clicking on them in safari only. All the other browsers mentioned take me to that area of the page. I have tried using both the id and the name attribute for the anchors but neither makes any difference.

• In an iPhone app, is it beneficial to tile a background image that has a pattern in it?

  Here's an example of the type of background image I'm talking about, the iPhone Notes app... Clearly, there's a pattern in it. My question is, if this were an iPad app and the background image was twice the size, would there be any significant benefits to taking advantage of this pattern by tiling the image?   I have table that gets dynamically created. When using jQuery and toggle, everything works. I however get a small visual glitch - it seems the HTML sometimes get selected.
