• SSIS 2008 Rows per batch and Maximum insert commit size

  I've got about 100 million rows that I'm moving in SSIS 2008 via a Data Flow Task. It's pretty much a straight table data copy using a Multicast. My question is this: Using the OLE DB Destination Editor I have two options: Rows per batch and Maximum insert commit size. What are good settings for this? I've only been able to find that you are recommended to set Maximum insert commit size to 2147483647 instead of 0, but then tweak both these settings based on testing. I'm curious to find out if anyone has discovered anything useful in their own management of these values.

• Hexagonal Grid Coordinates To Pixel Coordinates

  I am working with a hexagonal grid. I have chosen to use this coordinate system because it is quite elegant. This question talks about generating the coordinates themselves, and is quite useful. My issue now is in converting these coordinates to and from actual pixel coordinates. I am looking for a simple way to find the center of a hexagon with coordinates x,y,z. Assume (0,0) in pixel coordinates is at (0,0,0) in hex coords, and that each hexagon has an edge of length s. It seems to me like x,y, and z should each move my coordinate a certain distance along an axis, but they are interrelated in an odd way I can't quite wrap my head around it. Bonus points if you can go the other direction and convert any (x,y) point in pixel coordinates to the hex that point belongs in.

  Trying to use use SharpSVN in an ASP.NET app. So far, it's been nothing but trouble. First, I kept getting permission errors on "lock" files (that don't exist), even though NETWORK SERVICE has full permissions on the directories. Finally in frustration I just granted Everyone full control. Now I get a new error: OPTIONS of 'https://server/svn/repo': authorization failed: Could not authenticate to server: rejected Basic challenge (https://server) This happens whether I have the DefaultCredentials set below or not: using (SvnClient client = new SvnClient()) { //client.Authentication.DefaultCredentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("user", "password"); client.LoadConfiguration(@"C:\users\myuser\AppData\Roaming\Subversion"); SvnUpdateResult result; client.Update(workingdir, out result); } Any clues?   Hello all, I get this error when adding a reference to the Microsoft.Search.Interop.dll library in a new project that I created. Microsoft.Search.Interop.dll is a library that provides some useful API to communicate with Windows Search. I use it in order to add a folder to the system indexer. Did anybody else get this error, and if so, how should I go about solving it? I'm using VS2010 RC on a Windows Server 2008 if that is important. Thanks.

• Running Xcode Applications without installing Xcode

  I know nothing about Xcode, except it's a Developer interface from Apple that actually comes on OSX CD and it's used to create iPhone apps as well. I also know it have a Applications folder, filled with little utilities, that are indeed quite useful. I tried grabbing one of them and running, without installing Xcode but it doesn't work. It brings an error and a Problem Report from which I believe the relevant part is this: Dyld Error Message: Library not loaded: @rpath/DevToolsInterface.framework/Versions/A/DevToolsInterface I've tried, of course, locating that "framework", with no success. Well... I guess it's probably possible to install Xcode, get that utility source, if it exists somewhere, and compile for stand-alone. But that goes beyond my point. I just want to know if there's somewhere I can get those utilities and/or make them run without needing to install Xcode at all.

• How to install plugins on Eclipse.

  Hi, i know there already are other questions like this, but i could't find anything useful. And it's becoming such a painful issue.. I was trying to install ObjectAid on Eclipse 3.5.1. So, lets google, http://www.objectaid.com shows up. i added it to the repository list, then checked ObjectAid UML Explorer. It says: Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found. Software being installed: ObjectAid Class Diagram 0.9.86 (com.objectaid.uml.feature.group 0.9.86) Missing requirement: ObjectAid Class Diagram 0.9.86 (com.objectaid.uml.feature.group 0.9.86) requires 'org.eclipse.draw2d 0.0.0' I've had a look into /opt/eclipse/plugins and i've found org.eclipse.draw2d_3.5.2.v20091126-1908, but i coudnt figure out how to install it. The operating system is Ubuntu. Thanks for any help.

• jquery nested sortable

  I have been using NestedSortabe from b-hind and found it quite useful until I upgraded to latest jquery and jquery-ui I guess they changed the way mouse events are handled or something to that effect. Point it the nestedSortable doesn't work any longer. So my question is tri fold does anyone know if the folks at jquery have implemented a nested sortable I haven't seen anything. or does anyone know how to fix the b-hind version or know of something better / light weight to accomplish the same goals would like something compatible with lastest jquery-ui EDIT: it appears as though the lastest version of jquery-ui-sortable supports nested sorting !!!

• fast forward/streaming in html5 video? RTSP?

  right now I've got a few .mp4's hosted on Amazon S3. I know that S3 has support for RTMP, which is useful for streaming Flash. I'd like to accomplish something similar with html5 video; my biggest issue is that I need the ability to seek (fast forward) to a particular part of the video. Right now when I query the video, it loads the entire video before playing, which is a waste of bandwidth/dealbreaker. In what manner could this be implemented? Is this even possible? Looks like RTSP would be a good bet, but I haven't found whether anyone has rolled this out successfully.

• How to suppress Flash migration warnings (1090)

  I get "migration issue" warnings when I use mouse/keyboard input handler names such as onMouseDown, onKeyUp, etc. These names are perfectly legal, but sensibly, we are now warned that their use is no longer automatic in ActionScript 3. I want to suppress these warnings, but without suppressing all other warnings, which I find useful. E.g., when I use code like this: protected override function onMouseDown(e:MouseEvent):void { I get an annoying warning like this: Warning: 1090: Migration issue: The onMouseDown event handler is not triggered automatically by Flash Player at run time in ActionScript 3.0. You must first register this handler for the event using addEventListener ( 'mouseDown', callback_handler). There are flex compiler (mxmlc) flags which can suppress actionscript warnings, or all warnings, but I don't want that. That's to general. Ideally I could suppress a specific error/warning number (Warning #1090). Halp?

  Hello everyone, Im currently working on a website in the Zend Framework and finding it very useful indeed. I want both a blog and a forum in this website and wondered if there are any open-source projects of this nature that I would be able to simply copy and paste into my modular project. I was using Wordpress and BBpress previously so something like that would be good, although I do not want to hack my Zend Auth to use the Wordpress authentication system, seems like too much hard work/hacky to do.   Hello, Is there a way to modify the HTTP response code when using apache axis 1.4 for java? This would be useful for testing purposes, for example simulating server side errors. I've already tried the following: Set the HTTP code directly in the http servlet Request: MessageContext context = MessageContext.getCurrentContext(); HttpServletResponse response = (HttpServletResponse) context.getProperty( HTTPConstants.MC_HTTP_SERVLETRESPONSE); response.setStatus(e.getErrorCode()); // no effect Set the HTTP code as axis message context property: MessageContext context = MessageContext.getCurrentContext(); context.setProperty(HTTPConstants.MC_HTTP_STATUS_CODE, e.getErrorCode()); But this didn't seem to work, the actual HTTP code always was 200. • Base 36 to Base 10 conversion using SQL only.

  A situation has arisen where I need to perform a base 36 to base 10 conversion, in the context of a SQL statement. There doesn't appear to be anything built into Oracle 9, or Oracle 10 to address this sort of thing. My Google-Fu, and AskTom suggest creating a pl/sql function to deal with the task. That is not an option for me at this point. I am looking for suggestions on an approach to take that might help me solve this issue. To put this into a visual form...   There are a lot of information how to build Silverlight application using .NET RIA services, but it isn't clear what is unique thing in RIA that is absent in WCF? Authentication? Validation? Is it relly asset for you? At the moment the only thing I see: with RIA services usage you don't need to host WCF service manually and don't need to configure any references on the client side (clien side == Silverlight application). Probably I don't know some very useful features of the RIA Services? So could you please point me to the good doc for that? Many thanks.

After the considerable effort to find that bug I've got to ask why would anyone ever want this behavior? I can see how this might be useful for macro magic, but then why is this a "feature" in a modern language like python? Have you ever used string literal concatenation in production code?

• Differences in IE8 behavior between XP, Vista, Win7?

  Is there any significant difference in behavior (HTML, CSS, Javascript, ...) with Internet Explorer 8 on different operating systems? In other words, will a web page work the same way across IE8+XP, IE8+Vista and IE8+Win7, or are there some significant differences? (I'm aware that installed plugins and fonts will have an impact, but that's a bit outside my scope at the moment; assuming compatibility mode X-UA-Compatible: IE=8 or edge) Although The IEBlog contains very useful information, I haven't found this data there - so I'm assuming that there should not be any difference. However, search has turned up this (vague) question: "IE8 on XP: looks great! IE8 on Vista: looks terrible". Will have to check IE8+{XP,V,7} in VM in the meantime.

• Reading a plist utf-8 value as utf-16

  I'm working on an iphone app that needs to display superscripts and subscripts. I'm using a picker to read in data from a plist but the unicode values aren't being displayed corretly in the pickerview. Subscripts and superscripts are not being recognized. I'm assuming this is due to the encoding of the plist as utf-8, so the question is how do a convert a plist string encoding from utf-8 to utf-16 ? Just a little more elaboration: If I do this it displays properly at least in a textfield: NSString *equation = @"x\u00B2 + y\u00B2 = z\u00B2" However if I define the same string in a plist and try to read it in and assign it to a string and display it on a pickerview it just displays the the encoding and not the superscripts. @Matt: thanks for your suggestion the unicode is being escaped that is \u00B2 = \u00B2. Googling for "escaped values in plists" returned no useful results, and I haven't been able to use the keyboard cmd-ctrl-shift-+ to work. Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

• Delphi connection to OpenEdge Progress-4GL Database

  Folks: Has anyone had success connecting to a Progress-4GL database with Delphi?   I've been unable to establish any connection with the ODBC driver provided by the vendor (Progress OpenEdge 10.1C Driver). I've entered (what I believe are) the right parameters, but keep on getting an error whenever I test the connection: "[DataDirect][ODBC Progress OpenEdge Wire Protocol driver] Socket closed." Background: I've been tasked to re-design a 13-year-old application, but the original programmer did not provide any supporting documents, passwords, configuration setup, etc. (I'm on my own)!   To make things worse, online help and useful documentation about Progress is scarce (I had never heard about this database until now). I want to examine the existing data, maybe create an ERD to familiarize myself with the schema, but I can't even access the data outside of the OpenEdge code. Any help is appreciated!

• What to do with CSV after export on the iPhone?

  One of the requested features for my apps is to have an export feature. Most of the time the data is table-like in nature. As an example, users might enter every day what types of food they ate that day, and how many portions of each food type. As the data is table-like, I figure the most useful for export would be into CSV format. Then it can be read in spreadsheet software. Can I attach it to an email? How else can I make it available to the user so that it has some use? • TimeoutException in simultaneous calls to WCF services from Silverlight application

  Analysing log files I've noticed that ~1% of service calls ended with TimeoutException on the Silverlight client side. The services (wcf) are quite simple and do not perform long computations. According the log all calls to the services are always processed in less that 1 sec (even when TimeoutException is occurred on the client!), so it is not server timeout. So what is wrong? Can it be configuration or network problem? How can I avoid it? What additional logging information can be helpful for localizing this issue? The only one workaround I've thought up is to retry service calls after timeout. I will appreciate any help on this issue! Update: On startup the application performs 17 service calls and 12 of them simultaneously (may it be cause of failure?). Update: WCF log has not contained useful information about this issue. It seems some service calls do not reach the server side.

  Hello Experts, Scenario : I am working on LOB application, as in silverlight every call to service is Async so automatically UI is not blocked when the request is processed at server side. Silverlight also supports threading as per my understanding if you are developing LOB application threads are most useful when you need to do some IO operation but as i am not using OOB application it is not possible to access client resource and for all server request it is by default Async. In above scenario is there any usage of Threading or can anyone provide some good example where by using threading we can improve performance. I have tried to search a lot on this topic but everywhere i have identified some simple threading example from which it is very difficult to understand the real benefit. Thanks for help

I'm trying to do something like this but it doesn't work: Map<String, String> propertyMap = new HashMap<String, String>(); propertyMap = JacksonUtils.fromJSON(properties, Map.class); But the IDE says: 'Unchecked assignment Map to Map<String,String>' What's the right way to do this? I'm only using Jackson because that's what is already available in the project, is there a native Java way of converting to/from JSON? In PHP I would simply json_decode($str) and I'd get back an array. I need basically the same thing here. Thanks!

  This question relates to the OpenGL ES 2.0 Extension EXT_discard_framebuffer. It is unclear to me which cases justify the use of this extension. If I call glDiscardFramebufferEXT() and it puts the specified attachable images in an undefined state this means that either: - I don't care about the content anymore since it has been used with glReadPixels() already, - I don't care about the content anymore since it has been used with glCopyTexSubImage() already, - I shouldn't have made the render in the first place. Clearly, only the 1st two cases make sense or are there other cases in which glDiscardFramebufferEXT() is useful? If yes, which are these cases?
