  I am currently working as an SDET(Software devlopment Engineer in Test). I have been doing some programming in C# as my job needs. I want to expand my knowledge and experience by creating some simple tools and applications of my own. Consider this like academic projects that are created by students at the end of their course . The idea is to have a practical knowledge on the subjects that I have a theoritical knowledge about. For Eg - I have read about multithreading and have worked on the examples but I do not have a grip over the concepts. In order to get a good grip over the concepts I want to work over some projects involving multithreading, starting with a simple one. Similarly other concepts like REST/SOAP web services using WCF. • Using @Context, @Provider and ContextResolver in JAX-RS

  I'm just getting acquainted with implementing REST web services in Java using JAX-RS and I ran into the following problem. One of my resource classes requires access to a storage backend, which is abstracted away behind a StorageEngine interface. I would like to inject the current StorageEngine instance into the resource class serving the REST requests and I thought a nice way of doing this would be by using the @Context annotation and an appropriate ContextResolver class. This is what I have so far: In MyResource.java: class MyResource { @Context StorageEngine storage; [...] } In StorageEngineProvider.java: @Provider class StorageEngineProvider implements ContextResolver<StorageEngine> { private StorageEngine storage = new InMemoryStorageEngine(); public StorageEngine getContext(Class<?> type) { if (type.equals(StorageEngine.class)) return storage; return null; } } I'm using com.sun.jersey.api.core.PackagesResourceConfig to discover the providers and the resource classes automatically, and according to the logs, it picks up the StorageEngineProvider class nicely (timestamps and unnecessary stuff left out intentionally): INFO: Root resource classes found: class MyResource INFO: Provider classes found: class StorageEngineProvider However, the value of storage in my resource class is always null - neither the constructor of StorageEngineProvider nor its getContext method is called by Jersey, ever. What am I doing wrong here?

• Creating Drill-Down Detail UITableView from JSON NSDictionary

  I'm have a load of trouble finding out how to do this, I want to show this in a UITableDetailView (Drill-Down style) with each item in a different cell. All of the things I've read all show how to load a single image on the detail instead of showing as a UITableView. Does the dictionary have to have "children" in order to load correctly? Here is the code for the first view creating *dict from the JSON rowsArray. I guess what I'm looking for is what to put in the FollowingDetailViewController.m to see the rest of *dict contents, so when selecting a row, it loads the rest of the *dict. I have rowsArray coming back as follows: '{ loginName = Johnson; memberid = 39; name = Kris; age = ;}, etc,etc...   Hello All I've been banging my head over few hours for realising this particular logic My task is to have a masterlist ListM elements of which shall be list(again) in the form of ListA(type A) and ListB(type B) and ListC(type C)(some generic type). Also the lists A and ListB can contain elements of type C(some generic type). Coming to the preconditions 1. ListA can contain only 50 elements of type 'A', rest of the elements can be of generic type C 2. ListB can contain only 50 elements of type 'B', rest of the elements can be of generic type C 3. Also the lists(ListA or ListB) can take at max of 100 elements. 4. ListC can contain elements of generic type C and can take max of 100 elements For ex: Now, If i have 200 elements of type A and 200 elements of type B and 600 elements of type C then i should be able to get 4 Lists(50 elements in each list) of type...ListA (because each ListA can contain at max of 50 elements of type A only, rem 50 is typeC) 4 Lists(50 elements in each list) of type...ListB (because each ListA can contain at max of 50 elements of type B only, rem 50 is typeC) 2 Lists(50 elements in each list) of type...ListC i shall be glad to explain it again if my explanation is quite confusing. • Flex, Ant, mxmlc and conditional compilation

  My ActionScript project builds with several compile-time specified constants. They are all Booleans, and only one of them is true at any given time. The rest must be false. When I represented my build process in a bash script, I could loop through the names of all these constants, set one of them to be true and the rest to be false, then concatenate them onto a string to be inserted as a set of arguments passed to mxmlc. In Ant, looping is more complicated. I've tried the ant-contrib for tag: <mxmlc file='blah' output='blah'> <!- ... -> <for list='${commaSeparatedListOfConstNames}' param='constName'> <sequential> <define> <name>${constName}</name> <value>${constName} == ${theTrueConst}</value> <!-- (mxmlc's define arguments can be strings that are evaluated at compile time) --> </define> </sequential> </for> </mxmlc> Long story short, ant-contrib tags like the for tag can't go in the mxmlc task. • Common coding style for Python?

  Hi, I'm pretty new to Python, and I want to develop my first serious open source project. I want to ask what is the common coding style for python projects. I'll put also what I'm doing right now. 1.- What is the most widely used column width? (the eternal question) I'm currently sticking to 80 columns (and it's a pain!) 2.- What quotes to use? (I've seen everything and PEP 8 does not mention anything clear) I'm using single quotes for everything but docstrings, which use triple double quotes. 3.- Where do I put my imports? I'm putting them at file header in this order. import sys import -rest of python modules needed- import whatever import -rest of application modules- <code here> 4.- Can I use "import whatever.function as blah"? I saw some documents that disregard doing this. 5.- Tabs or spaces for indenting? Currently using 4 spaces tabs. 6.- Variable naming style? I'm using lowercase for everything but classes, which I put in camelCase. Anything you would recommend?

  I'm writing my first python program to manage users in Atlassian On Demand using their RESTful API. I call the users/search?username= API to retrieve lists of users, which returns JSON. • Fast screen capture and lost Vsync

  Hi, I'd like to generate a movie in real time with a self-made application doing fast screen captures with part of the screen occupied by a running 3D application. I'm aware that several applications already exist for this (like FRAPS or Taksi), and even dedicated DirectShow filters (like UScreenCapture), but i really need to make this with my own external application. When correctly setup (UScreenCapture + ffdshow), capturing an compressing a full screen does not consumes as much CPU as you would expect (about 15%), and does not impairs the performances of the 3D app. The problem of doing a capture from an external application is that the 3D application loses it's Vsync and creates a shaggy, difficult to use 3D application (3D app is only presented on a small part of the screen, the rest being GDI, DirectX) FRAPS solves this problem by allowing you to capture only one application at a time (the one with focus). Depending on the technology used (OpenGl, DirectX, GDI), it hooks the Vsync and does its capture (with glReadPixels,...), without perturbing it. Doing this does not solve my problem, since I want the full composed screen image (including 3D and the rest) AND a smooth 3D app. The UScreenCapture seems to use a fast DirectX call to capture the whole screen, but the openGL 3D app is still out of sync. Doing a BitBlt is too slow and CPU consumming to do real time 30 fps acquisition (at least under windows XP, not sure with 7) My question is to know if there is a way to achieve my goal with Windows 7 and it's brand new DirectX compositing engine? Windows 7 succeeds to show live VSynced duplicated previews of every app (in the taskbar), so there must be a way to access the currenlty displayed screen buffer without perturbing the rendering of the 3D OpenGL app ? Any other suggestion, technology ? thank you

• Dynamic controls not creating with RSS reader function

  Hello, I am working on a test project for an RSS reader. I am using Chilkat's module for .NET 3.5. What I am trying to do is this: For each item in the RSS feed, I want to dynamically create some controls (labels) that contain stuff like the title, the link and the publication date. The problem is that only the first control comes up "rssTitle", but not the rest and it's definitely not creating the rest, nor cycling through the RSS items. Any ideas where I'm wrong in my code? • jQuery "Autcomplete" plugin is messing up the order of my data

  I'm using Jorn Zaefferer's Autocomplete plugin on a couple of different pages. In both instances, the order of displayed strings is a little bit messed up. Example 1: array of strings: basically they are in alphabetical order except for General Knowledge which has been pushed to the top: General Knowledge,Art and Design,Business Studies,Citizenship,Design and Technology,English,Geography,History,ICT,Mathematics,MFL French,MFL German,MFL Spanish,Music,Physical Education,PSHE,Religious Education,Science,Something Else Displayed strings: General Knowledge,Geography,Art and Design,Business Studies,Citizenship,Design and Technology,English,History,ICT,Mathematics,MFL French,MFL German,MFL Spanish,Music,Physical Education,PSHE,Religious Education,Science,Something Else Note that Geography has been pushed to be the second item, after General Knowledge. The rest are all fine. Example 2: array of strings: as above but with Cross-curricular instead of General Knowledge. • Limit the number of service calls in a RESTful application

  Imagine some kind of a banking application, with a screen to create accounts. Each Account has a Currency and a Bank as a property, Currency being a separate class, as well as Bank. The code might look something like this: public class Account { public Currency Currency { get; set; } public Bank Bank { get; set; } } public class Currency { public string Code { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } public class Bank { public string Name { get; set; } public string Country { get; set; } } According to the REST design principles, each resource in the application should have its own service, and each service should have methods that map nicely to the HTTP verbs. So in our case, we have an AccountService, CurrencyService and BankService. In the screen for creating an account, we have some UI to select the bank from a list of banks, and to select a currency from a list of currencies. Imagine it is a web application, and those lists are dropdowns. This means that one dropdown is populated from the CurrencyService and one from the BankService. What this means is that when we open the screen for creating an account, we need to make two service calls to two different services. If that screen is not by itself on a page, there might be more service calls from the same page, impacting the performance. Is this normal in such an application? If not, how can it be avoided? How can the design be modified without going away from REST?

  I am trying to do a seemingly simple thing, but having trouble accomplishing it. I am trying to automate the posting on my Facebook wall. Basically I have a ASP.NET MVC website that I post updates on, and I want to automatically submit the post to my wall. I see a lot of stuff on FB Connect and getting data, I just want to post. Thanks for any help or guidance. UPDATE: Just trying to resurrect, and be a little more clear in my description as I am not getting anywhere. I have a page that I want with a text box and a button. When I submit the form I want the message to post to my Facebook wall. I thought it was Facebook Connect, but I am getting no where as to how to automatically authenticate myself and post to my wall. • How do I POST/GET from rails to API with Nestful?

  Hi, this is a pretty basic question but I'm not entirely clear how to do this. I am trying to use a third-party service that has web-based service. The service is called Postful. But I'm not clear what exactly to do? I've looked at ActiveResource (http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActiveResource/Base.html) and rest-client, but I'm still not clear exactly what steps, code, and files to create. • Apache mod_deflate not compressing responses from Adobe BlazeDS

  Hello, I have following setup Apache Box <=> Weblogic Box1 <=> Weblogic Box2 Apache Box : mod_weblogic(weblogic apache plugin), mod_deflate Weblogic Box1 : Weblogic 10.3 Weblogic Portal, Adobe BlazeDS Weblogic Box2 : Weblogic 10.3 SUN Jersey for REST API Apache forwards the request to Box1, where some of the REST requests get forwarded to Box 2 by Adobe BlazeDS. On Apache i have setup mod_deflate and mod_weblogic as follows: <IfModule mod_weblogic.c> WebLogicHost portalappeng.xxx.com WebLogicPort 7001 </IfModule> <Location /Portal> SetHandler weblogic-handler SetOutputFilter DEFLATE </Location> but when i look at the Apache deflate log i only see the jsp responses from Box1 being compressed, but the responses which BlazeDS forwarded to Box 2 are not compressed. Also the .js and .css files which are served from Box1 are not compressed Here are sample from log file, first response came directly from Box1 and got compressed, second and third also from Box1 but not compressed. Fourth one came from Box 2 to Box 1(BlazeDS) and then to Apache, not compressed. What am i missing? • Holding value in collection

  I have a application which is on timesheet. I have total of 54 columns out of which 10 columns are visible rest invisible. First 3 columns are Project, MileStone and Classes. Rest are Sun- Sat work hrs. Now I have a column named 'taskid' as SunTaskID,MonTaskID and so on till SatTaskID for holding each days taskid. Now on the selection of SunHrs (Sunday's Work Hrs), i retrieve that days taskid and on the basis of task id i retrieve attachments which is displayed under a listbox. Now the problem is that since a day can have multiple attachments and a user can attach multiple attachments at time. He can enter values from grid to. Grid cells are editable. I am using BindingList(of TaskClass) in VB.Net for binding grid. I have total 54 properties n my task class. So i want to what property do i need to hod each days attachment and in what way. Earlier I tried Dictionary. But i was not aware of its usage as a property so i gave. Then prepared a separate class for attachment but, it was difficult to synchronize the existing attachments with taskid...

  Hi all. I am trying to derive the average case running time for deterministic linear search algorithm. The algorithm searches an element x in an unsorted array A in the order A[1], A[2], A[3]...A[n]. It stops when it finds the element x or proceeds until it reaches the end of the array. I searched on wikipedia and the answer given was (n+1)/(k+1) where k is the number of times x is present in the array. I approached in another way and am getting a different answer. Can anyone please give me the correct proof and also let me know whats wrong with my method? (n-k)! is the total number of ways of arranging the rest non x numbers, and n! is the total number of ways of arranging the n elements in the array. I am not getting (n+1)/(k+1) on simplifying.

  Hi guys, I have suppose say 'X' check-boxes(any input elements) in a Form and "M" option selection indexes ("M" less than equal to "X"). then how do i select the "M" option indexes/values and deselect the rest of check-boxes optimally? i.e.Suppose I have 10 Checkboxes and 5 Option Indices(eg: 1,2,4,5,8) then i have to select checkboxes with given index . • Best architecture for a social media app

  Hey guys, Im working on promising project that develops a new social media app for web and mobile. We are at begin defining functionalities. Nevertheless, I'm thinking ahead on architecture. So I'm asking: 1 - Whats the best plataform to develop the core of this aplication that will have a Rest API interface. 2 - Whats the best database that will scale and grow with my application. As far as I researched, these were the answers I found most interesting: For database: Cassandra NoSQL DB, amazing scalabilty, amazing write performance, good read performance (will be improved on 0.6). I think i will choose that one. Zookeer for transactions on Cassandra. I think that 2 technologies rly good for that propose. What do you think guys? On the front end that will serve the REST API, i dont have a final candidate. For this one i have questions based on Perfomance X Scalabilty X Fast Development/Maintenance. Java or .Net As far as I researched, brings the best balance of this requisits. Python, pearl and Rail, has the best (Fast Development/Maintenance), but sux on all other. C or C++ I dont even consider, because its (Fast Development/Maintenance) sux... So what do you guy think about it?

• HTML Frameset with just one frame and a body

  Hello, I am trying to create the following layout: an HTML file with a body, that has a certain width, and a frame, that fills the rest, so, more or less like this: <frameset cols="150px,*"> <body></body> <frame src="source.html" /> </frameset> The thing is, I need the body to have a certain width, not wider, but I also need its elements to be free to move OUTSIDE the body, over the frame, without creating a scrollbar. And I really need the body to be of limited width and the frame to fill the rest. Thanks in advance! EDIT: Okay, I will try to rephrase my problem. What I need, is something that I can put in to the frameset, that is like a border, BUT that is rendered on the main page, and not from a source, something where I can write directly and whose elements can overlap the other frame. I have tried using <noframes> but to no avail...

• Sending jQuery.ajax data simultaneous to a form submit

  I have a bit of a conundrum. I have a form which has numerous fields. There is one field for links where you enter a link, click an add button, and the link(using jQuery) gets added to a link_array. I want this array to be sent via the jQuery.ajax method when the form is submitted. If I send the link_array using $.ajax like this: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "add_stock", dataType: "json", data: { "links": link_array } }); when the add link button is selected the data goes no problem to the correct place and gets put in the db correctly. If I bind the above function to the submit form button using $(#stock_form).submit(..... then the rest of the form data is sent but not the link_array. I can obviously pass the link array back into a hidden field in HTML but then I'd have to unpack the array into comma separate values and break the comma-separated string apart in PHP. It just seems 100X easier to unpack the Javascript array in PHP without an other fuss. So, how is it that you can send an array from javascript using $.ajax concurrent to the rest of the $_POST data in HTML? Please note that I'm using Kohana 3.0 framework but really that shouldn't make a difference, what I want to do is add this js array to the $_POST array that is already going. Thanks!

• MPMoviePlayerView fade in/out of overlay

  I've got a MPMoviePlayerViewController, and I've added an overlay as a subview to the MPMoviePlayerController.view that it controls. Does anyone know if there's an easy way to make my added overlay fade in and out with the rest of the controls? • Rails rspec expects Admin::PostsController, which is there.

I have no idea what that error means, nor how to start solving it. /home/...../active_support/dependencies.rb:492:in `load_missing_constant': Expected /home/...../app/controllers/admin/posts_controller.rb to define Admin::PostsController (LoadError) I may have it all set up wrong, or may be doing something really silly, but all I want is my CRUD actions on /admin, with separate before filters and a separate layout. And to test these controllers. EDIT ZOMG, made a terrible copy-paste error into this SO posting. The controller was PostsController, not the PagesController that I pasted into there. Problem still stands, as my code is correct, just the SO post, here was wrong.
