  • iPad connection to external monitor

    Apple have been relatively restrictive in the way in which they have enabled the iPad to be connected to an external display i.e. only certain things like videos and images can be displayed in this way (via a converting lead). Does anyone know of a way to get around this? I.e. display any content on the iPad on an external display - not just the apps/content that Apple has designated? For example, I want to connect my iPad to an external monitor and create documents, viewing them on the monitor not the iPad display? Thanks in advance for any help.

    When we make new mail message in outlook 2007 and try to write any letter in To field it show auto complete list with all available contacts that contain written letters. This list is appear with all emails that u send to them before and over time this list be more and more with new contacts you send to ... My Issues : When we reinstall windows ,install new copy of outlook,create new mail message ,try yo write any character in To field it will not show any contacts and this lead to write it or choose from contacts ... Is it any way to make outlook add my contacts or specific contacts I determined to be cached and appear in TOwhen i write any letter without need to write them again ?

    I think anyone who's used Oracle SQL Developer will agree that it's painfully slow on the load. My research has lead me to a solution that seems to have helped a little, and that's telling OSQLD not to check for updates on startup. However, it still takes several minutes to open. What could OSQLD possibly be doing during load time? Is there any way get it to open right away? Edit: Adding potentially relevant system specs: CPU: Intel i5-2520M 2.5 ghz Windows 7 32-bit RAM: 4 gb

Basically I'd like to write a batch file that switches that setting for a large group of file types and be able to share it with my entire team. Clicking in the UI is time consuming for everyone. This is a great solution for bringing up the GUI, but I'd like to create a batch file What is the command line for Indexing Options?

  • Does a hard drive "working hard", i.e. when defragmenting or otherwise continuously active, significantly affect a laptop's temperature?

    Trying to diagnose and fix an overheating Acer 5735 laptop, running speedfan and doing general workload to try and cause the overheat conditions. I notice that windows xp is badly fragmented according to defraggler, at 58% fragmentation. So I defrag whilst watching the speedfan window, which was at the start reporting high warning style symbols for all of the sensors. After the defrag, I rebooted and ran a few programs, and even defraggler again and the sensors in speedfan all reported green i.e. not high. Wondering if there is a correlation between windows fragmentation causing the hard drive to work harder and produce more heat inside the laptop? dont want to just assume that the problems are resolved, so either speedfan is not accurate enough or fragmentation can lead to additional hard drive heat? All comments or suggestions welcome.

  • Multiple IPs from one router

    I would like to know if it is possible (and if so, how) to configure a router running dd-wrt (or openwrt) to supply connected devices with two ip addresses. The network looks like this: [Internet] | [Router] | | [Comp1] [Comp2] ... My ISP provides me with enough public IP adresses to give all devices on my network one each. The easiest way to set that up is to just use the router as a switch. This will however lead to problems with some LAN based applications. I would still like to use Samba-shares between the computers as well as a vpn server. What I am looking for basically is if it is possible to use the router as a DHCP server for a local network (let's say giving IP adresses 192.168.1.xx to connected computers) while at the same time passing through public IP addresses to each as well?

  • Windows Internet Connection sharing with Mobile Broadband

    Due to circumstances, I have only got mobile broadband where I am living. I have a small network with a ADSL Router (but which isn't connected to the Internet. I want to use ICS to allow one machine (with the MBB modem) to act as the Internet interface and allow other machines connected to the ADSL router (including a new Android tablet by WiFi) to use the single mobile broadband connection. I've a feeling that my configuration is not valid - as it stands, but I'm not sure. Can some kind soul lead me "by the nose" to getting this working?     We just upgraded our company intranet from an IIS based, ASP (poorly written) server/code base to a Windows Server 2008 r2 (Apache/MySQL/PHP) server. The old server allowed users to login to intranet.xxx.org using there AD user/pass which then lead them to the company Intranet from basically anywhere they had Internet access. We want to mimic that functionality (or change it to something more secure) with the new setup. This was seemingly setup for off-site employees running on a state network. The state network does not allow VPN, therefor, we needed a way to allow those employees access to the Intranet. So, how do we go about allowing users to login from the outside world and gain access to our Intranet?

  • SQL database testing: How to capture state of my database for rollback.

    I have a SQL server (MS SQL 2005) in my development environment. I have a suite of unit tests for some .net code that will connect to the database and perform some operations. If the code under test works correctly, then the database should be in the same (or similar) state to how it was before the tests. However, I would like to be able to roll back the database to its state from before the tests run. One way of doing this would be to programmatically use transactions to roll back each test operation, but this is difficult and cumbersome to program; it could easily lead to errors in the test code. I would like to be able to run my tests confidently knowing that if they destroy my tables, I can quickly restore them? What is a good way to save a snapshot of one of my databases with its tables so that I can easily restore the database to it's state from before the test?

  • JBoss 4.2.3 Won't Start

    Hi, I'm trying to start a new installation of JBoss 4.2.3, and it's getting as far as "INFO [Server] Core system initialized", then hanging for several minutes. There is a Java process running, but only at ~35%. Also, looking at the boot.log, there are no entries after ~1s after starting the boot. Any ideas what might be up? Update: After about 10 minutes, I got a handful of garbage collection warnings: GC Warning: Repeated allocation of very large block (appr. size 512000): May lead to memory leak and poor performance.

  • ZFS on top of iSCSI

    I'm planning on building out a file server using ZFS and BSD, and I was hoping to make it more expandable by attaching drives stored in other machines in the same rack via iSCSI (e.g., one machine is running ZFS, and others have iSCSI targets available to be connected to by the ZFS box and added to zpools). Looking for other people who have tried this has pretty much lead me to resources about exposing iSCSI shares on top of ZFS, but nothing about the reverse. Primarily I have the following questions: Is iSCSI over gigabit ethernet fast enough for this purpose, or would I have to switch to 10GbE to get decent performance? What would happen when one of the machines running iSCSI targets disconnects from the network? Is there a better way to do this that I just am not clever enough to have realized?     I have a domain dedicated for my local server (.dev), and an .htaccess file which redirects requests like http://folder.dev/subfolder/ to /htdocs/folder/subfolder. It works great and all, except for one minor issue. When I have the Directory Listing enabled, I can access all the folders, subfolders and files properly, except when I click on the Parent Directory link, which, for example, should lead to http://folder.dev, but redirects to http://folder.dev/folder/ and consequently throws 404 not found. Similarly, if Parent Directory should link to http://folder.dev/subfolder/, it links to http://folder.dev/folder/subfolder/.   • Replacement for NewSID when working with Windows 7?

    Has anyone got a lead on a replacement for the old SysInternals NewSID utility that will work for Windows 7? I found out the hard way that NewSID will totally hose a Win7 setup (BSOD on reboot). Apparently the same problem occurs for Server 2008 R2. They've officially announced that NewSID will be retired in November, possibly because of this issue. I'm aware of SYSPREP, but it's not a clean replacement in my case so I was hoping that there was another utility similar to NewSID that worked with Win7. Reworking our system to use SYSPREP will be ugly and slower as well. Any thoughts on another alternative? Thanks!

  • Ctrl-Alt-F1 never gives prompt

    When I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 in my Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4 (Santiago) I get a black screen with a blinking cursor, but I never get a login prompt. I can get back to my desktop with Ctrl+Alt+F7, and things work as normal. However, when I run sudo init 3 I get the same thing, but this time I am stuck at the screen and can't get back without a reboot. I'm not even sure where to start looking for the cause of this problem. Are the startup scripts that might be causing the problem or other system configurations that could lead to this? If this is not an known issue, what steps should I take to debug?

    Hello, everyone! I want to use some tool (not decided yet, which one) to sync a Firefox instance (more exact: user directory) between two machines. (EDIT: I want really to sync everything in the user-directory) Would you assume, that this is safe? What would happen, if some files are newer on the one machine, and some other files are newer on the other machine? Could this lead to inconsistencies, when, let's say, there are some inter-file references? If general, I don't have good experience with syncing application in both directions. Most applications seem not to be suited for this.

  • How often does a Linux check it's /etc/localtime file

    I am trying to troubleshoot a problem. Some very helpful information would lead me to a solution is: Often does Linux check the /etc/localtime file? Additionally if there is a configuration file to increase the frequency (for testing) that would be helpful. Normally I would assume that it would check when a call to the ntp server has been executed, but NTP is not installed. It couldn't possibly check every time the date function is called as this would result in many problems on busy web servers. Server is Ubuntu 12.04, but I don't think that is relevant to the question.
