    what data type (string, blob or clob) should i use for my thread body when using doctrine? and what length should it be? i have read the documentation but dont quite understand the differences between them. seems that all three can store unlimited nr of characters. could someone explain and how do i store unlimited characters in string? what should i set as length?

  • Is it possible to implement any kind of file upload recovery / resumption in a browser?

    The project is a servlet to which people can upload files via, at present, HTTP POST. This is accompanied by Web page(s) providing a front-end to trigger the upload. We have more or less complete control over the servlet, and the Web pages, but don't want to impose any restrictions on the client beyond being a reasonably modern browser with Javascript. No Java applets etc. Files may potentially be large, and a possible use case is mobile devices on less reliable networks. Some people on the project are demanding the ability to resume an upload if the network connection goes down. I don't think this is possible with plain HTTP and Javascript in a browser, but I'd love to be proved wrong. Any suggestions?

  • PIL's Image.show() brings up *two* different viewers

    When toying with images in the python shell, I use image.show(), where image is an instance of Image. Long ago nothing happened, but after defining a symlink to mirage named "xv", I was happy. The last few days, show() will bring up both ImageMagick's display and also Mirage. It's not clear where show() gets information on what to run. Documentation wasn't helpful. How to make it behave and bring up only what it thinks is xv?

  • Check if NSURL is Local File

    This is a pretty simple question- how can I check if a NSURL is linking to a local file? I know, RTFM, but I checked the documentation and I don't seem to see any methods related to this. The only methods I did find were -isFileReferenceURL and -isFileURL, but I think these only check if the URL directly links to a file. note: I'm making an iPhone app, so by "local file" I mean a .html file stored in the project's resources. Thanks for any help in advance.

  • How do you drop in substitute JRE classes?

    Hi, java.util.zip has well-known problems with native memory usage, so i'm trying to use a drop-in replacement called "jazzlib". unfortunately as is typical for sourceforge projects there is no documentation. If I add the jar to my classpath then Java freaks out and gives me "prohibited package name" errors because it replaced java.util.zip. How do I tell Java that this is what I want it to do?

  • Disable automatic Date parsing in HtmlUnit

    Having just upgraded to a newer version of HtmlUnit (2.4), I've noticed certain tests are failing when comparing the output of asText. Looking into the differences, this is because dates (present on the page in the format 11/06/2010 00:00z) are being altered in the output to read 2010-06-11. Has anybody else encountered this, and can anybody advise how to turn off this (seemingly undocumented) feature of asText, which seems to go completely against the advised documentation.

    I am trying to get a basic Rails application to run on my Mac OS X 10.6.5. I created a new app called demo (rails new demo), then went into the demo directory and tried to start the app with rails server. No definition for libversion Enclosing class/module 'mSqlite3' for class Statement not known " I had rails running well on my system a few months ago, so I figured maybe I had some duplicates and it was trying to use the wrong one. I ran: "for cmd in ruby irb gem rake; do which $cmd; done" and got: "/opt/local/bin/ruby /opt/local/bin/irb /opt/local/bin/gem /opt/local/bin/rake" Checking where sqlite3 also gets me: "/opt/local/bin/sqlite3" so they all seem to be in the right place. Obviously /opt/local/bin is in my system path. If I check gems server, it shows that I have installed sqlite3-ruby 1.3.2 gem. Not sure what the problem could be? I am using ruby 1.8.7 (2010-12-23 patchlevel 330) [i686-darwin10]. Macports claims this is the latest (although ive seen 1.9.1) One more thing-- in irb, I tried to check which version of sqlite3 my sqlite3-ruby is bound to, but I can only get this far: ":irb(main):001:0 require 'rubygems' = true irb(main):002:0 require 'sqlite3' /Users/dpetrovi/.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/sqlite3-ruby-1.3.2/lib/sqlite3/sqlite3_native.bundle: [BUG] Segmentation fault ruby 1.8.7 (2010-12-23 patchlevel 330) [i686-darwin10] Abort trap" Any suggestions?   • How to drop a primary key using ActiveRecord migrations

    Due to a mistake I forgot to add :id => false to a has_many :trough table creation migration. Now I reverted the association back to a has_and_belongs_to_many and ActiveRecord throws an exception complaining about the presence of the primary key. I couldn't find any reference on the ActiveRecord documentation so, do you know if there is any standard, clean way of doing it?

    Last summer I learned HTML and CSS for a job, mainly through tutorials and a sort of "build this" method, that is, I'm given a goal and have to try to figure out how to build it myself. Is there a place with some examples to teach someone with this method? My boss wants to get me going on PHP this summer, and I need to refamiliarize myself with it over the next week. Most people send me to Php.net to follow the documentation, is there another good method out there?

    I'm looking for a good open source web editor that will take xsd (or some other standard XML) and from that generate web forms that will enable the end user to generate standard xml (without knowing anything about xml obliviously). I took a look at kupu, but there doesn't seem to be much documentation and the site appears to no longer exist. Is there anything out there that does this already. I could write something like this myself, but if there's something that out there that will save me some time that would be great. Thanks

  • How can I make a view start in landscape?

    I have read a few questions about an app doing it through the info file but not a certain view. I just need the interface to be set up to start in landscape view. I managed to get near what I want with shouldAutoRotateToInterfaceOrientation:, but it only works after I rotate the view.     On Windows XP, I ran "configure", and Qt says that I'm configured to use phonon, but I'm not sure how to set up my environment correctly in Qt Creator. According to the Qt documentation, I need to call: Set DXSDK_DIR=C:\Program Files\Microsoft DirectX SDK (February 2007) %DXSDK_DIR%\utilities\bin\dx_setenv.cmd C:\program files\Microsoft Platform SDK\setenv.cmd How do I do this in the Qt Creator IDE?     I understand the concept of some_instance.send but I'm trying to figure out why you can call this both ways? The Ruby Koans imply that there is some reason beyond providing lots of different ways to do the same thing and I'm wrestling with figuring this out. " Why to use: document.body.foo = 52; can result a memory leak -or in what conditions- so that I should use jQuery.data(document.body, 'foo', 52); Should I ALWAYS prefer .data() instead of using expandos in any case?   • How to log all sql going through JBoss datasource with log4j

    I've looked at log4jdbc (which does not support datasources), p6spy which seems to be what I am looking for but it has not been updated since 2003 which makes me nervous and lists only JBoss 3.x (we use JBoss 5), and JAMon which seems heavyweight for what I am trying to accomplish (a simple log of all SQL statements running through a JBoss application server). I was hoping that JBoss itself would have a switch to log all the sql (as Websphere does) but I cannot find any documentation for it so that functionality might not exist.
