• How to set the PHP Api Version for phpize

  I'm upgrading php on my server but I'm running into a problem with phpize and compiling external modules. phpize -v reports: Configuring for: PHP Api Version: 20041225 Zend Module Api No: 20090115 Zend Extension Api No: 220090115 But on my test server (which I'm trying to replicate) I get this: Configuring for: PHP Api Version: 20090626 Zend Module Api No: 20090626 Zend Extension Api No: 220090626 I'm running debian squeeze, pulling the php 5.3.0-2 packages from the experimental repo. The difference betweent he two servers is that the first server has had old verisons of php on it, and the test server was installed with php 5.3.0-2 from the start. I've attempted uninstalling all PHP packages from the first server (using --purge to get rid of all the config files) and re-installing 5.3 fresh, but I'm still having the same issue. Help!

• GLTessellator crashing

  I'v followed a tutorial to get the GLU tesselator working. It woulds except the interpolation for colors of new points causes a crash (error reading from memory...) • iPhone image app not releasing memory as in instruments using imageNamed

  hi, im building iPhone app that downloads images (UIImageView) from internet and adding them to UIScrollView. This scroll view could contain 20 or more UIImageViews. Iam adding UIImages to UIImageView like this: UIImageView *newView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage: image]; Then I just scroll these images like in photo app. Problem is, when I put just 3 UIImageViews in UIScrollView everything works fine, but when I put more images, more memory is used, so that app can crash after 15 or more images. I can understand it that more images alloc more memory, but in Instruments i get allocated max 2-3 MB, but in device memory raises until it crashes. When I use simulator for OS 3.0 i can see memory rising like on device. On higher versions I dont see this memory raise, why is that?

• Nagios3 gives a warning on HTTP service monitoring

  Already set up my local net configuration to be monitored by Nagios3. I found a problem that Nagios3 reports a warning in the HTTP monitoring service of a Debian server set at ip 192.168.1.52, that has an individual virtual host and a mass virtual host for application development. I get this status message: HTTP WARNING: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found I used the Nagios tools to check. servername is the name of the vhost server name I used in the Apache configuration. /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_http -H servername -I 192.168.1.52 receiving this status message: HTTP OK HTTP/1.1 200 OK - 37900 bytes in 0.504 seconds |time=0.503946s;;;0.000000 size=37900B;;;0 But when I check like this: /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_http -I 192.168.1.52 I get the same status message as the warning, so I assume that I don't have Nagios completely well set up because doesn't recognize the vhosts for that server, how it should be as the check_http service shows. Where should I look to fix that warning?

How do I grant access to that database as mysql reports a syntax error. e.g. grant select,insert,update,delete on astpp.* to 'portal'@'localhost' identified by 'Ab7g12Xh35' with grant option; works, but grant select,insert,update,delete on astpp-eth01.* to 'portal'@'localhost' identified by 'Ab7g12Xh35' with grant option; Does not. • Is there a maximum of open files per process in Linux?

  My question is pretty simple and is actually stated in the title. One of my applications throws errors regarding "too many open files" at me, even tho the limit for the user the application runs with is higher than the default of 1024 (lsof -u $USER reports 3000 open fds). Because I cannot imagine why this happens, I guess there might be a maximum per process. Any idea is very appreciated! • Inserting clobs into oracle with ODBC

  I'm trying to insert a clob into Oracle. If I try this with an OdbcConnection it does not insert the data into the database. It returns 1 row affected and no errors but nothing is inserted into the database. It does work with an OracleConnection. However, using the Microsoft OracleClient makes our webservices often crash with an AccessViolationException (Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.). This happens a lot when we use OracleDataAdapter.Fill(dataset). So using this doesn't seem like an option. Is there any way to insert/update clobs with more then 4.000 characters from .Net with an OdbcConnection?

• Is there good .sol editor for Flash Player 9 Local Shared Objects? Can we build one?

  There's plenty of them out there but none of them do what I would like them to do. Most of them crash when opening a file or simply corrupt the data. Many don't run at all. It seems to me that most were written 3-4 years ago for AS2 .sols and no longer work with FP9/AS3 sols. I'd attempt to write my own using AIR but I can't find a new spec of the byte format. There's an explanation of the file format here: http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=27026&group_id=131628 and another here: http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=27026&group_id=131628 but it looks as though both of these docs are a good 4 years old (pre-FP9) and as I'm not skilled or experienced in file formats, writing a new one, especially without an updated spec, is seeming like less and less of a viable option. Ideally I'd like one that can not only read the .sol, but edit and save new values also. Thanks!

• Robustly killing Windows programs stuck reporting 'problems'

  I am looking for a means to kill a Windows exe program that, when being tested from a python script, crashes and presents a dialog to the user; as this program is invoked many times, and may crash repeatedly, this is not suitable. The problem dialog is the standard reporting of a Windows error: "Foo.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" and offers a Debug, Send Error Report, and Don't Send buttons. I am able to kill other forms of dialog resulting from crashes (e.g. a Debug build's assert failure dialog is OK.) I have tried taskkill.exe, pskill, and the terminate() function on the Popen object from the subprocess module that was used to invoke the .exe Has anyone encountered this specific issue, and found a resolution? I expect automating user input to select the window, and press the "Don't Send" button is one possible solution, but I would like something far simpler if possible

• ARM laptop available?

  Hearing all the fuss about some new consumer product that uses an ARM Cortex A8, I'm interested to get in on some of the action. But I want a real programmable computer running something like Linux. I've seen many, many reports in the past 2 or 3 years about prototype ARM laptops with great battery life. Unfortunately, when I tried googling today, all I can find are the old videos and press releases about the prototypes, not a shipping product. Is there an actual ARM laptop available today? Or did everybody give up and just use Intel Atom chips?

• Report Builder 2.0 - Creating DataSet - User Not Authorized

  Hello, we are currently using SQL Server Reporting Services and we would like to use Report Builder so our customers can create reports themselves. I have created a User on the server. I have added this user to the SQLServerMSSQLUser and SQLServerReportServerUser groups. I have given this User db_datareader access to the required database and to the Reporting Services database. I've also tried giving the User db_owner access to the Reporting Services db's. And on the Report Manager, this User is a System_User, but has all access (every checkbox is checked). When I connect using Report Builder, I can select the Report Model to create a DataSource, but when I try to create a DataSet, I get the following error: An error occurred while connection to datasource 'DataSource1'. The details are: 'User Not Authorized'. Does anyone know what server permissions I forgot to set? I'm assuming it's a Windows permissions issue because I do not see any database login errors in the event logs.

• ATI video cards - unable to use entire monitor (1080p)

  Hi all, I have a Dell s2409w, 24" 1080p monitor. With nVidia, I would plug-in the monitor and voila, it automatically knew it was 1080p (1920x1080). I have both a Windows laptop and Ubuntu laptop. Neither is capable of using the fullscreen even though the monitor reports the input is 1080p. I am connecting the monitors via HDMI, is there a 'special' setting I am missing to make this work? Otherwise, I like the performance of my ATI video cards, the drivers seem to be stable and reliable. Thanks, Walter

• Identify cause of hundreds of AJP threads in Tomcat

  We have two Tomcat 6.0.20 servers fronted by Apache, with communication between the two using AJP. Tomcat in turn consumes web services on a JBoss cluster. This morning, one of the Tomcat machines was using 100% of CPU on 6 of the 8 cores on our machine. We took a heap dump using JConsole, and then tried to connect JVisualVM to get a profile to see what was taking all the CPU, but this caused Tomcat to crash. At least we had the heap dump! I have loaded the heap dump into Eclipse MAT, where I have found that we have 565 instances of java.lang.Thread. Some of these, obviously, are entirely legitimate, but the vast majority are named "ajp-6009-XXX" where XXX is a number. I know my way around Eclipse MAT pretty well, but haven't been able to find an explanation for it. If anyone has some pointers as to why Tomcat may be doing this, or some hints on finding out why using Eclipse MAT, that'd be appreciated!

• Diagnosing high CPU waiting

  I have a monitoring server that is running icinga/collectd/graphite with about 50 hosts. I have noticed high load/slugging performance on the box. If you take a look at top, you'll see: Cpu(s): 0.6%us, 0.2%sy, 0.0%ni, 7.6%id, 23.4%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.2%si, 0.0%st Notice the HUGE %wa value, which as far as I know means a network or disk bottleneck. ifconfig shows no dropping packets and there's not a ton of bandwidth going on, so that leaves disk issues, right? There's not a lot of disk writing going on either...iotop is reporting we're only writing a little over 1 MB per second and the RAID tool reports everything is A-OK and write caching is enabled. How do I go about trying to figure out how to fix this?   I'm looking for a good performance monitoring service for websites. I know about some of the available general monitoring services that check for uptime and notify you about unavailable services. But I'm specifically looking for a service with an emphasis on performance. I.e., I would like to see reports with detailed performance statistics from multiple locations world-wide, with a break-down on how long it took to fetch the different website resources, including third-party scripts such as Google Analytics and so on (the report should contain similar details such as the FireBug Net tab). Are there any such services and if so, which one is the best?

• Launch IE with specific BHO enabled

  I have a IE BHO plugin that I only want to be enabled when the user launches IE from my program (The program start IE using CreateProcess()). I don't want this BHO to be enabled when a user launches IE from outside my program, as that would mean any problems in the BHO could potentially mess up the user's normal browsing experience. What's the best way to do this? One way would be to register the BHO, launch IE and then quickly unregister the BHO. This seems kind of messy though, as a crash in the program that launches IE could cause the BHO to remain registered.

• upgrade from windows server 2008 r2 std to enterprise

  We recently had to upgrade our servers from Win 2008 R2 Standard to Enterprise. The upgrade method was DISM. After the upgrade, a lot of weird things started to happen. Though Windows says it's been properly activated, we lost 1) RDP settings (disappeared from the Remote Setting tab of Properties of My Computer) 2) The option to join a domain is grayed out 3) The server had to 2 physical processors 12 cores each. Now, task manager or windows sees only 1 processor (or only 12 cores) 4) the amount of physical ram on this sever is 32 GB (Windows reports only 4 GB are usable) Has anyone encountered this before ?   So, I have read the SO post on UIImagePickerController, UIImage, Memory and More, and I read the post on Memory Leak Problems with UIImagePickerController in iPhone. I have VASTLY increased my memory efficiency between these 2 posts, and I thank the OPs and the people that provided the answers. I just had a question on the answer provided in the Memory Leak question, which was (essentially): only have one instance of the controller throughout the programs runtime What would be the best way to go about this without causing memory leaks? Right now I am initiating it and releasing it on every use from within the view, and I am seeing exactly what the answer describes (Memory warnings and a crash after about 20 uses). Should I initiate the UIImagePickerController when I need it, but use a seperate class unrelated to the view to control it? How should I deal with releasing the controller if I do it this way?

• What would cause Google Music Manager to report different amounts of music between iTunes and My Music?

  If I set Google Music Manager to scan iTunes, it reports that there are 3997 songs (which is also indicated if I were to open iTunes and look at my collection). However, if set Google Music Manager to scan My Music folder, it detects 3999 songs. I even deleted all of my songs from iTunes and reimported my My Music folder. iTunes is still reporting 3997 songs. Is there an easy way to find out what is causing the difference between the two counts? I could probably add all of my songs to a playlist, export the playlist into a text or XML file using iTunes, and compare that list against everything in My Music folder to see if iTunes is missing music. However, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this before I did that...

• Core Data (NSFetchedResultsController) displaying one row per section

  I have a CoreData application which uses NSFetchedResultsController. NSFetchedResultsController is useful in that it allows me to access the fetched objects more easily etc. but I find that I have problems with the following: I get a crash when I display a single row for each section (irrespective of the number of actual rows present) as a summary of the information in that section (e.g. showing a statistical analysis of the data contained in the fetched rows for that section). I understand that the NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegatemethods have to agree with the number of rows reported per section by the UITableView Delegate method but I would like to be able to fetch all of the records for each section without necessarily displaying each of the rows. The above causes me inconsistency crashes, when I try to insert or delete data for a section, which reports that the number of rows for each section is not as it should be given the number of insertions/deletions. Is there any way I can do what I'm trying to achieve? Thanks for any help.

• Certain users cannot get to my server

  I am finding more and more users that report they cannot reach my server (website or services). Their tracert from that user looks like this: Tracing route to domain.com [*.*.*.255] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 * * * Request timed out. The server is up and functional and every else reports it is fine. But there are various users who cannot get to it. I have no firewall or anything that would block anyone. Yes, the last part of the server IP is 255. Could this be causing it? http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r18539206-Last-octet-255-bug-on-Windows Or would a certain ISP be denying traffic to my server? Or something on their router level?
