• Is the redistributable ReportViewer 2010 RC available in other languages?

  I need to deploy the language packs for the ReportViewer 2010 control (the english one is installed and working perfectly). Before, with ReportViewer 2008 and 2005, all the supported laguages were available on the MS downloads site. I can't seem to find them for the RC of 2010 -- are they available anywhere? From MSDN: To use the localized version of the ReportViewer control redistributable that comes with Visual Studio, do the following: 1.Run ReportViewer.exe. 2.Navigate to the folder that contains the language pack you want to use. Language pack folders are located at %PROGRAMFILES%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\BootStrapper\Packages\ReportViewer\. 3.Run ReportViewerLP.exe. Is there a generic language pack for VS 2010 RC that would have the localized report viewers as well?

  Given multi-tenant application, How are vendors implementing email notifications from an email account setup and programming perspective: Sending emails could come from a generic account: eg [email protected] or [email protected], this seems reasonable considering reply addresses and lilnks can be contained within the email contents. Receiving Emails: How would an application receive email, for instance; to generate support tickets or assign comments in an email to a project/task. I have seen ID's within the subject and some reply to addresses containing the account name eg: [email protected] I realise one can programatically connect to a pop3 server and receive emails and look for the IDs with the subject, but is there a way of setting up and receiving email to a single pop3 account from multiple sub-host name email addresses (not sure on terminology there) eg: [email protected] or [email protected] and check the Account Name from the address? (similar to checking subdomains on a URL) Any practices, experience, comments or sughestions? (not sure its relevant, but using C# asp.net-mvc and services etc)

• Is there a way to declare a variable that implements multiple interfaces in .Net?

  Similar to this Java question. I would like to specify that a variable implements multiple interfaces. For instance private {IFirstInterface, ISecondInterface} _foo; public void SetFoo({IFirstInterface, ISecondInterface} value) { _foo = value; } Requirements: I don't have the ability to add an interface to most type that would be passed in to Foo. So I can't create a third interface that inherits from IFirstInterface and ISecondInterface. I would like to avoid making the containing class generic if possible because the type of Foo doesn't have much to do with the class and the user isn't likely to know it at compile time. I need to use foo to access methods in both interfaces at a later time. I would like to do this in a compiler safe way, i.e. no trying to cast to the interface just before trying to use it. If foo does not implement both interfaces quite a bit of functionality won't work properly. Is this possible?

• Should I inherit from a stackpanel instead of a stack panel, grid or other UI element or UserControl

  So I'm building a peice of UI that might me in a dialog window or might be in embedded in part of a bigger page. I don't have alot of experience with WPF, but in ASP.NET you always used UserControls, because their wasn't anyt really generic UI inherit to inherit from (and in a way UserControl was just a div). My coworker has written alot of controls that inherit directly from stackpanel. That seems like a decent way of doing things. But when I went to create a control for the code I was going to write I was presented with a dialog that only included the UserControl, which I wasn't that familiar with in the context of WPF. So can someone explain to me the difference from building a control that inherits from user control vs inheriting directly from a stackPanel?

  EDIT: i just deleted the entire post and reformulated the question to be more generic. I want to do a simple strategy game: map, units. Map: one class. Units: another class, self drawn. Simple questions: How does an unit should redraw itself on the map. A unit should be a JPanel or similar Swing component (just to be able to manage them as an entity with its own mousehandlers) or can be another thing, without neglecting the fact that it should be an autonomous object with its own action handlers and fields. Is this map-units model correct of a simple game that would help me to learn in a fun way Java and OOP fundamentals. Thats it!

We have just completed design of Data Access Layer which is generic in the sense that it works using XML and reflection to persist data. Any ways now we are in the phase of designing business layer. We have read some books related to Enterprise Architecture and Design so we have found that there are few patterns that can be applied on business layer. Table Pattern and Domain Model are example of such patterns. Also we have found Domain Driven Design as well. Earlier we decided to build Entities against table objects. But we found that there is difference in Entities and Value Objects when it comes to DDD. For those of you who have gone through such design. Please guide me related to pattern, practice and sample.   The question is entitled with the word "Stream" because the question below is a concrete example of a more generic doubt I have about Streams: I have a problem that accepts two solutions and I want to know the best one: I download a file, save it to disk (2 min), read it and write the contents to the DB (+ 2 min). I download a file and write the contents directly to the DB (3 min). If the write to DB fails I'll have to download again in the second case, but not in the first case. Which is best?   I'm trying to generate C code from a Matlab-Simulink simple model (eg.: sine wave generator with a DAC at the output). This code must be executed with Code Composer Studio for TMS320C6748 DSP (Texas Instrument C6748). Specifically, for the development board OMAP-L138 ZOOM ™EVM DEVELOPMENT KIT. For this, I am using the following versions: Simulink (Version 7.7 - R2011a) Embedded Coder (Version 6.0 - R2011a) Code Composer Studio v3.3 I tried several options (with generic modules in Simulink and programming the C6748 timers, configuring a module "Target Preferences" with "OMAP_L138/C6748 EVM"...) but it isn't working. • Don't want to JSON serialize the whole list of classes

  Hey, I've got a IList of Sites in my application and Site has a large amount of properties. I'm wanting to convert this list to JSON to be used in a dropdownlist similar to this var sites = SiteRepository.FindAllSites(); return new JsonResult() { Data = sites, JsonRequestBehavior = JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet }; the problem I have is that I only want to use the id and name properties of the site class. I was thinking a way round this would be to use an 'adaptor' class that would then only expose these two properties and I would then serialize that. The problem I have is I want to make the class generic so that it can handle any list of objects. Has anybody come across a similar situation and solved it?

• Passing parametrized ArrayList to a function in java

  I have the following fucntion. func(ArrayList <String> name) { ........ } The function fills the ArrayList. (I don't want to return the ArrayList) However, in the caller function the ArrayList obtained has all items of ArrayList as null. For eg. 1 name = new ArrayList[num]; 2 func(name); 3 System.out.println(name[0]); I get NullPointerException at line 3. Is this because of line 1, i.e. I am not parametrizing? If yes, is there another way this can be done? Because java does not allow creating a generic array of parametrized ArrayList.

I'm trying to design my data access to allow various facets - from ASP.net, WCF and Windows Forms / Windows services. I'm a bit confused re: session management etc.. How would I handle this? I've been checking out code such as: http://membranecms.googlecode.com/svn/ and questions such as: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1207833/nhibernate-linq-session-management But what do i do if i don't just do things in a web based environment..? Do i need to create different repositories for each client? Or do i pass in the ISession into the (for example) UserRepository constructor..? ... as a side note I'm using nHibernate.Linq Also using fluent nHibernate to config my mapping

  I've jumped into the C# bandwagon and was wondering if there's an equivalent of Joshua Bloch's Effective Java for the C# world. I've already being able to apply some Java knowledge to C# given their similarity but I'm interested in knowledge to make the most effective use of C# specific features. For example, Generics are not implemented equally in Java and C#, so it's not clear to me if the Java Generic "techniques" will work in C# as well. I'm mostly interested in C# 3.0. That is (of course) unless you guys think I would benefit for looking into versions 1 and 2 features.

• Interface "not marked with serializable attribute" exception

  I have a very odd exception in my C# app: when trying to deserialize a class containing a generic List<IListMember> (where list entries are specified by an interface), an exception is thrown reporting that "the type ...IListMember is not marked with the serializable attribute" (phrasing may be slightly different, my VisualStudio is not in English). Now, interfaces cannot be Serializable; the class actually contained in the list, implementing IListMember, is [Serializable]; and yes, I have checked that IListMember is in fact defined as an interface and not accidentally as a class! I have tried reproducing the exception in a separate test project only containing the class containing the List and the members, but there it serializes and deserializes happily :/ Does anyone have any good ideas about what it could be?

• Does MS Test provide a default value equals comparison?

  I want to test for example int orderId = myRepository.SubmitOrder(orderA); orderB = myRepository.GetOrder(orderId); Assert.AreEqual(orderA, orderB); // fail Obviously I need a value comparison here, but I don't want to have to provide an overridden Equals implementation for all of my classes purely for the sake of testing (it wouldn't be of any use in the rest of the app). Is there a provided generic method that just checks every field using reflection? Or if not, it is possible to write my own?

  Subject says it all. I want to modify the POCO generation adapter (http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/EFPocoAdapter) to generate my own code. I have the .tt adapters done, but I want to be able to distribute this to coworkers, so they right-click on the model, choose "Generate Code", and my t4 templates appear in the options along with the other choices. Is there an easy way to do this? I found some articles at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/tsyyf0yh(VS.80).aspx but it was focused on generic templates, and I'm looking for specifically model templates.

• Is there a general concrete implementation of a KeyedCollection?

  The System.Collections.ObjectModel.KeyedCollection class is a very useful alternative to System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary, especially when the key data is part of the object being stored or you want to be able to enumerate the items in order. Unfortunately, the class is abstract, and I am unable to find a general concrete implementation in the core .NET framework. The Framework Design Guidlines book indicates that a concrete implementation should be provided for abstract types (section 4.4 Abstract Class Design). Some of the properties I wish to set do expose a programmatic interface to 'default', but many others do not. Is there a generic way to set such properties to their default? • Reworking my singly linked list

• IBM RAD With Java 1.5 wont compile code with generics

  Hello I have some code that has generic references in it and my IBM RAD IDE will not compile the code, instead treating it as an error. I have checked the version of the JRE its pointing to across all the Enterprise Project's and it is 1.5 which I am told does support generics. Also I checked that all the libraries for WAS were pointing to the correct version and that the Compiler Compliance Level was set correctly (which it was at 5.0 and i changed it to 6.0 with no luck either) Does anyone have any suggestions as to anything else I can try? I have issues like this with RAD all the time and I dont know about anyone else but they took eclipse and made it complicated and dysfunctional.
