  Hi folks, I recently wrote a simple and tiny embedded HTTP server for my C++ app (QT) and I played a little bit with Ry's http-parser and loved it. This guy is crazy. So I told to myself: "Hey! Why not port the django template engine to C?" That'd be awesome! I know, it won't be an easy task (not at all, I know) but I'd really love to implement this. So I came here for inspiration, ideas, opinions... I'd really love to have some pointers on the subject, ideas, what is already done, which major problems I'll encounter (and how to solve them) - How not to reinvent the wheel... anyway, you got the idea :) Thanks a million times!   Related question I am having similar problems to what that guy had in his. My upload server returns aredirect Specifically, I am not sure what FormPanel.SubmitCompleteEvent.getResults() returns. Sometimes, I get html of an img: <img style="cursor: -moz-zoom-in;" alt="http://<myapp>.appspot.com/servePic?blob-key=abcdef" src="http://<myapp>.appspot.com/servePic?blob-abcdef" height="1" width="1"> Sometimes I get the image data in bytes. Behavior varies on I dunno what. I get the first in development, and the second in production. Does anyone know anything about this?

• question about frequency of updating access

  i have a table in an access database this access database is used on a regular basis, basically from 9-5 someone else has a copy of this exact table. sometimes records are added, sometimes deleted, and sometimes data within the records is updated. i need to update the access database table with the offsite table every hour or so. what is the best algorithm of updating the data? there are about 5000 records. would it severely lock up the table for a few seconds every hour? i would like to publicly apologize for my rude comment to david fenton

  After signing a jar , we can retrieve the public keys from jar using Certificate[] cert = jarentry.getCertificates(); Once certificate is extracted we can save this to a new keystore as trusted cert. Once this is done , then second user can sign any jar using this certificate , isn't ? I want to distribute content as jars , contents will contain properties files for a application init. I want to make sure that an user is not capable to rebuilding the property files using the certificate he extracted from jarentry. In the code which reads the jar contents i am checking that jar is signed with my certificate only and also checking that jar is not tampered with . But the issue came to my mind that if i am able to extract the cerificate from jar then why don;t a third guy ? Can any one help me in this............

• Checkstyle for C#?

  I'm looking to find something along the lines of Checkstyle for Visual Studio. I've recently started a new gig doing .NET work and realized that coding standards here are a bit lacking. While I'm still a young guy and far from the most experienced developer I'm trying to lead by example and get things going in the right direction. I loved the ability to use Checkstyle with Eclipse and examine code before reviews so I'd like to do the same thing with Visual Studio. Anyone have any good suggestions? Another thing I'd be somewhat interested in is a plug-in for SVN that disallows check-in until the main coding standards are met. I do not want people checking in busted code that's going to wind up in a code review. Any suggestions at this point would be great.

• vb.net array for slideshow button

  Hey all, i am in the middle of trying to figure out how to go about doing this... I have a form that i call like so: call frmSlideShow.showWhat(1,4,8,9,11,22) Each of the numbers represents a different image slide (slide1.png, slide4.png, etc..). The problem i am having is trying to create a "previous" and "next" button to flip through them all. Trying to figure out what number the user is on and going from there and seeing what numbers are still left from the list above that was sent, etc. If anyone has an idea how i would go about doing that then that would be awesome! :) David

• Popup extender "frozen" on code-behind exception.

  Hi, In a C#/ASP.NET project, we're using an ajax modalpopupextender to display a "Processing..." message to the users. We're displaying it using a Javascript call in the code of the ASP.NET page. Then, in the code behind, we're doing some database operation, and hide again the popup using "popup.hide();" The problem is that when an exception occurs in the code behind, the popup is still displayed and the application does not handle errors as per the "customErrors" tag of the web.config. Any idea on how to deal with this kind of issues? Thanks, David

  Hi I am developing an open source desktop twitter client. I would like to take advantage on the new xAuth authentication method, however my app is open source which means that if I put the keys directly into the source file, it may be a vulnerability (am I correct? The twitter support guy told me). On the other hand, putting the key directly into a binary also doesn't make sense. I am writing my application in python, so if I just supply the pyc files, it is one more seconds to get the keys, thanks to the excellent reflection capatibilities of Python. If I create a small .so file with the keys, it is also trivial to obtain the key by looking at the raw binary (keys has fixed length and character set). What is your opinion? Is it really a secutiry hole to expose the API keys?

What is the difference between & in C++ and * in C to indicate pointers? Similarly: const string &GetMethodName() { ... } What is the & doing here?   I am using coredata framework. In my NSManagedObjectModel i am using three entities that are Class, Student and Score where class and student have one-to-many & inverse relationship and Student and Score have also inverse but one-one relationship. Score entity has all optional attributes and having default '0' decimalVaue, which is not assigned at the time new Student is added. But later i want to assign them score individually and also to particular attribute not all of score attributes in a go. I am able to create and add Students to particular Class but dont have any idea how to call particular student and assign them score. For example I want to assign Score'attribute "dribbling" [there are many attributes like "tackling"] a decimal value to Student "David" of Class "Soccer" ,how i can do that? • Overtime culture slowly creeping in - How do I handle this?

  Our company was one of the very few companies that did not enforce overtime. As such, all my team members promptly worked 40-48 hours a week and everything was good. We hired a few new developers and one of them has positioned himself to be a team lead. He has started working overtime, sending emails in the middle of the night which has come somewhat as a shock for the laid back team. Obviously, the higher ups seem to love him for being the "bad guy" enforcing overtime. Before this goes out of control, what steps do I take to stop this from continuing. I would rather not bring this up with the bosses for the fear of being seen as a whining team member. I am not sure if I should reply to his email outside work hours and encourage him to enforce this culture on our team. Thoughts?

A few people here on Stack Overflow have answered the "LINQ for Java?" question with a single word : Quaere However, on the site it clearly states "Pre-Beta", and there's been no commits to their code for over a year, so I'm guessing the project is pretty much dead. Is anyone actually using this, and / or have any experience with it? The second most common answer appears to be "use Google Collections". Is this the most appropriate Java way? Cheers Marty

But if it was a method, why would it begin with a capital letter and has no return data type? • Can a 32-bit RHEL4 userland work with a 64-bit kernel?

  Is there a way to change an i386 RHEL4 machine to run an amd64 kernel, but ensure that it still builds software into same i386 binaries? On Debian this seems quite straightforward: just install an amd64 kernel (worst case, build one like this guy: http://www.debian-administration.org/users/jonesy/weblog/1) and prefix everything with "linux32". Then everything that considers uname -m will be unchanged, I just need to handle the few cases that consider uname -r. What is the Red Hat equivalent? Is the only way a full 64-bit installation on another disk and then chrooting back to the 32-bit system before anyone builds anything? (Even the best examples of that seem to be Debian-based.) Background: We make a large system that runs on (a variant of) i386 RHEL4. However, some of the larger RHEL build machines now have enough RAM that they might benefit from going 64-bit (for the kernel and maybe some of the bigger build steps). Our build system doesn't support cross-compilation.

  I'm stumped! We have a user control for managing account information. We use this particular control on two pages. On one page, everything works perfectly and meets our expectation.   Hi guy, I need to integrate struts with spring for a project. I read the doc to ingrate struts and it's ok for classic beans but I have a problem for my forms. I have a form like this in my struts-config.xml: <form-beans> <form-bean name="creationForm" type="org.apache.struts.validator.DynaValidatorActionForm" > <form-property name="libelle" type="java.lang.String" /> <form-property name="quantite" type="java.lang.String" /> <form-property name="prix" type="java.lang.String" initial="10" /> </form-bean> But it's strange for me to have a "type" in struts-config because it's spring which manages beans. I don't found anything in the doc to manage forms by spring and the attribute "type" is mandatory for form in struts-config. Someone can help me please ?

If so, how? EDIT #1: I added the following: Console.WriteLine( "user: " + user ); Below this line: UserPrincipal user = UserPrincipal.FindByIdentity(context, "someLimitedAccount"); And I get this: user: It doesn't look like user is null when I print it, but then again I'm not really a .Net guy - I seem to remember this being expected behavior.

• Why is only the suffix of work_index hashed?

  I'm reading through the PDF that Brett Slatkin has published for Google I/O 2010: "Data pipelines with Google App Engine": http://tinyurl.com/3523mej In the video (the Fan-in part) Brett says that the work_index has to be a hash, so that 'you distribute the load across the BigTable': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSDC_TU7rtc#t=48m44 ...and this is how work_index is created: work_index = '%s-%d' % (sum_name, knuth_hash(index)) ...which I guess creates something like 'mySum-54657651321987' I do understand the basic idea, but is why only one half of work_index is hashed? Is it important to hash only part of it leaving the suffix out? Would it be wrong to do md5('%s-%d' % (sum_name, index)) so that the hash would be like '6gw8....hq6' ? I'm Java guy so I would use md5 to hash, which means I get id like 'mySum' + 32 characters. (Obviously I want my ids/keys to be as short as possible here.) If I could hash the whole string my id would be just 32 chars. Or would you suggest to use something else to do the hashing with?

• Adding an host programmatically (name resolution under Windows)

  I would like to programmatically add to Windows a name / IP association so that this name can be resolved locally. This does not have to be persisted between reboots. The only way I now is to add an entry to the "hosts" file, but this feels hacky especially since I would like to automate this. Is there any way to do this using a command-line tool or a Win32 API? Perhaps by addind an entry to Windows DNS cache or something similar? Oh, and please state if this solution is Vista-compatible. Regards. Edit : Thanks, guy. Sadly, all of your answers indeed involve DNS or other servers. I was looking for a purely local solution which would work on a "standard" Windows installation. Such a thing does not seem to exist, though.
