  • check when a page was first seen by google

    Is there a way to see when a page was first published, by checking when it was first cahced by google (obviously its not 100% fool proof because there is a couple of days delay in some cases but it will give you a good idea.) The only other way i could think of checking it published date is if the page / post had a publicly viable time stamp on it, but in the case im looking for it, it dosnt have a publicly visible time stamp.

  • Why do "Joke" programming languages exist? [closed]

    First of all please be aware this post contains some abusive language but I hope it will not bother anyone. I apologize for the bad language but that's what the name is. As I've been doing documentation on existing programming languages attempting to make a complete list of them I stumbled across terrible programming languages, which were clearly not made for actual use and implementation due to their insane difficulty. Languages such as Brainfu*k and LOLCODE or Whitespace are fool languages because they have no real use. For example, a "Hello world" program written in BrainFu*k.   • Build a view frustum from angles

    I have 4 angles, left, right, top & bottom. These angles are in degrees. They define the angle between the forward vector and the corresponding side.   • boxes adding up to 100% of the browser [closed]

    I want to have 2 boxes right next to each other, one with a fixed width, and another with a width that will change based on the size of the browser. The box has overflow:auto, and I'm trying to get the first box to act as a side bar that will follow you down the page. But of course I can't seem to achieve this, and have come here hoping someone could give me some examples, or point me in the right direction. Thanks!

  • Which programming language to get into?

    I'm ending my third term in a few weeks so I have some spare time coming up. I'd like to spend it seriously digging into programming. My problem: I'm not sure which language to begin with. Just to be clear, I don't want to start a language-y-compared-to-language-z discussion. There are a some other issues that play a major role. In my 5th term I'm going to be participating in a major practical course which will include either Java or C programming. It will take a lot of time and energy, as I found out while talking to a few students who passed the final exams (only 15% pass on their first try). Which practical course I will take is randomly decided. My skills so far are the absolute basics of Java and C programming. I know the different data types and how to handle them, objects, pointers, thread programming, etc. All of that is on a very low level, though. My question now is, what language should I start seriously practicing? Java: I did my first GUIs with this language. I'm familiar with Eclipse but I need a project to work on (which I don't have) to really keep me pushing. Besides that, I don't think it would help me if I have to do C in a year. C: As with Java, I can't think of a personal project to keep me working and keep me interested in programming. If I get assigned to Java in a year, this wouldn't give me any advantages either, would it? (No objects, etc.) Objective-C: I recently came up with this idea. I have a Mac; I'm not really familiar with Xcode but I have one or two personal projects I'd like to work on. Further, I would be working with objects (as in Java) and C language constructs which would both be great for this practical course in a year. What do you think I should begin with? Should I just stick to Java and hope for the best, force myself through C or start (nearly) completely from the beginning with Objective C? Maybe you folks could give me some good advice that would stop me from switching from one language to the next?

  • Headphones don't work on an Acer Aspire 5920g

    All the problems I read about were all about the sound not working when they plugged the headphones in. I have the problem that my mic will work but the sound is still played on my built-in speakers. When I look at the sound settings, it doesn't give me any options for headphones. I run 12.04 and never had this problem in Windows. I run it on a Acer Aspire 5920g. Any tips or ideas will be very helpful.

    It may sound naive, but is there any programming language, or research thereof, based entirely on category theory? I mean this as opposed to embedding CT concepts as an additional feature (like for Haskell or scala). Would it be too abstract or too complex as an approach, or are there any known reasons that makes it impossible or impractical?   • Ubuntu 11.10 overheating with Sony Vaio

    I am a Windows user trying to move over to Ubuntu without much success. I have installed the 11.10 version as dual boot by using Wubi tool on the Ubuntu website and can only use the operating system for about 5 minutes before it overheats and shuts off the machine. I have done my searches and seen many posts about overheating but cannot see one that I am able to apply to my particular case. Can anyone give me a steer on this please?

  • Combobox binding with different types

    Binding to comboboxes in Silverlight has been an adventure the past couple of days. In our framework at ArchitectNow we use LookupGroups and LookupValues. In our database we would have a LookupGroup of NBA Teams for example. The group would be called NBATeams, we get the LookupGroupID and then get the values from the LookupValues table. So we would end up with a list of all 30+ teams. Our lookup values entity has a display text(string), value(string), IsActive and some other fields. With our applications we load all this information into the system when the user is logging in or right after they login. So in cache we have a list of groups and values that we can get at whenever we want to. We get this information in our framework simply by creating an observable collection of type LookupValue. To get a list of these values into our property all we have to do is. var NBATeams = AppContext.Current.LookupSerivce.GetLookupValues(“NBATeams”); Our combobox then is bound like this. (We use telerik components in most if not all our projects) <telerik:RadComboBox ItemsSource="{Binding NBATeams}”></telerik:RadComboBox> This should give you a list in your combobox. We also set up another property in our ViewModel that is a just single object of NBATeams  - “SelectedNBATeam” Our selectedItem in our combobox would look like, we would set this to a two way binding since we are sending data back. SelectedItem={Binding SelectedNBATeam, mode=TwoWay}” This is all pretty straight forward and we use this pattern throughout all our applications. What do you do though when you have a combobox in a ItemsControl or ListBox? Here we have a list of NBA Teams that are a string that are being brought back from the database. We cant have the selected item be our LookupValue because the data is a string and its being bound in an ItemsControl. In the example above we would just have the combobox in a form. Here though we have it in a ItemsControl, where there is no selected item from the initial ItemsSource. In order to get the selected item to be displayed in the combobox you have to convert the LookupValue to a string. Then instead of using SelectedItem in the combobox use SelectedValue. To convert the LookupValue we do this. Create an observable collection of strings public ObservableCollection<string> NBATeams { get; set;} Then convert your lookups to strings var NBATeams = new ObservableCollection<string>(AppContext.Current.LookupService.GetLookupValues(“NBATeams”).Select(x => x.DisplayText)); This will give us a list of strings and our selected value should be bound to the NBATeams property in our ItemsSource in our ItemsControl. SelectedValue={Binding NBATeam, mode=TwoWay}”

My query is, what would be the most effective way of storing this consent to ensure that users don't get repeat requests to give consent in the future, obviously for authenticated users I can store this against their profile.     I want to do an A B test of an entire site for a new design and UX with only slight changes in content (a big brand site that has good Google rankings for many generic keywords. My idea of implementation is doing a 302 redirect to the new version (placing it on www1 subdomain) and allowing only user agents of known browsers to pass. The test version will have disallow all in the robots text. Will Google treat this favorably or do I have to use Google Website Optimizer (which will give me tracking headaches)?
