  • too much recursion in javascript with jquery mouseover

    - by Stacia
    I am a JS novice. Using some code I found here to help me with mouseover scale/rotate images but now when I try to apply it to more than one object I'm getting errors saying "too much recursion". Before the function didn't take any arguments, it just was on s_1 and it worked fine. I am tempted to just write different code for each object but that isn't very good programming practice. var over = false; $(function(){ $("#s_1").hover(function(){ over = true; swing_left_anim("#s_1"); }, function(){ over = false; }); $("#np_1").hover(function(){ over = true; swing_left_anim("np_1"); }, function(){ over = false; }); }); function swing_left_anim(obj){ $(obj).animate({ rotate: '0deg' }, { duration: 500 }); if (over) { $(obj).animate({ rotate: '25deg' }, 500, swing_right_anim(obj)); } } function swing_right_anim(obj){ $(obj).animate({ rotate: '-25deg' }, 500, swing_left_anim(obj)); }

  • Javascript functions Math.round(num) vs num.toFixed(0) and browser inconsistencies

    - by eft
    Edit: To clarify, the problem is how to round a number to the nearest integer. i.e. 0.5 should round to 1 and 2.5 shoud round to 3. Consider the following code: <html><head></head><body style="font-family:courier"> <script> for (var i=0;i<3;i++){ var num = i + 0.50; var output = num + " " + Math.round(num) + " " + num.toFixed(0); var node = document.createTextNode(output); var pElement = document.createElement("p"); pElement.appendChild(node); document.body.appendChild(pElement); } </script> </body></html> In Opera 9.63 I get: 0.5 1 0 1.5 2 2 2.5 3 2 In FF 3.03 I get: 0.5 1 1 1.5 2 2 2.5 3 3 In IE 7 I get: 0.5 1 0 1.5 2 2 2.5 3 3 Note the bolded results. Does this mean that toFixed(0) should be avoided?

  • regex and javascript, some matches disappear !

    - by dader51
    Here is the code : > var reg = new RegExp(" hel.lo ", 'g'); > > var str = " helalo helblo helclo heldlo "; > > var mat = str.match(reg); > > alert(mat); It alerts "helalo, helclo", but i expect it to be "helalo, helblo, helclo, heldlo" . Only the half of them matches, I guess that's because of the space wich count only once. So I tried to double every space before processing, but in some case it's not enough. I'm looking for an explanation, and a solution. Thx

  • How to impose maxlength on textArea in HTML , Javascript

    - by Rakesh Juyal
    I would like to have some functionality by which if i write <textarea maxlength="50"></textarea> <textarea maxlength="150"></textarea> <textarea maxlength="250"></textarea> it will automatically impose the maxlength on the textArea. If possible please donot provide the solution in JQuery. Note: This can be done if i do something like this: <textarea onkeypress="return imposeMaxLength(event, this, 110);" rows="4" cols="50"> function imposeMaxLength(Event, Object, MaxLen) { return (Object.value.length <= MaxLen)||(Event.keyCode == 8 ||Event.keyCode==46||(Event.keyCode>=35&&Event.keyCode<=40)) } copied from another thread But the point is I don't want to write onKeyPress and onKeyUp every time i declare a textArea.

  • get value from css using document.getElementById().style.height javascript

    - by Jamex
    Hi, Please offer insight into this mystery. I am trying to get the height value from a div box by var high = document.getElementById("hintdiv").style.height; alert(high); I can get this value just fine if the attribute is contained within the div tag, but it returns a blank value if the attribute is defined in the css section. This is fine, it shows 100px as a value. The value can be accessed. <div id="hintdiv" style="height:100px; display: none;"> . . var high = document.getElementById("hintdiv").style.height; alert(high); This is not fine, it shows an empty alert screen. The value is practically 0. #hintdiv { height:100px display: none; } <div id="hintdiv"> . . var high = document.getElementById("hintdiv").style.height; alert(high); But I have no problem accessing/changing the "display:none" attribute whether it is in the tag or in the css section. The div box displays correctly by both attribute definition methods (inside the tag or in the css section). I also tried to access the value by other variations, but no luck document.getElementById("hintdiv").style.height.value ----> undefined document.getElementById("hintdiv").height ---->undefined document.getElementById("hintdiv").height.value ----> error, no execution Any solution? TIA.

  • Javascript callback with AJAX + jQuery

    - by Fred
    Hey! I have this jQuery code (function () { function load_page (pagename) { $.ajax({ url: "/backend/index.php/frontend/pull_page/", type: "POST", data: {page: pagename}, success: function (json) { var parsed = $.parseJSON(json); console.log(parsed); return parsed; }, error: function (error) { $('#content').html('Sorry, there was an error: <br>' + error); return false; } }); } ... var json = load_page(page); console.log(json); if (json == false) { $('body').fadeIn(); } else { document.title = json.pagename + ' | The Other Half | freddum.com'; $("#content").html(json.content); $('#header-navigation-ul a:Contains('+page+')').addClass('nav-selected'); $('body').fadeIn(); } })(); and, guessed it, it doesn't work. The AJAX fires fine, the server returns valid JSON but the console.log(json); returns undefined and the js crashes when it gets to json.pagename. The first console.log(parsed) also returns good data so it's just a problem with the return (I think). I knew I was clutching at straws and would be extremely if this worked, but it doesn't. To be honest, I don't know how to program callback functions for this situation. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Javascript instanceof & typeof in GWT (JSNI)

    - by rybz
    Hi, I've encountered an curious problem while trying to use some objects through JSNI in GWT. Let's say we have javscript file with the function defined: test.js: function test(arg){ var type = typeof(arg); if (arg instanceof Array) alert('Array'); if (arg instanceof Object) alert('Object'); if (arg instanceof String) alert('String'); } And the we want to call this function user JSNI: public static native void testx()/ *-{ $wnd.test( new Array(1, 2, 3) ); $wnd.test( [ 1, 2, 3 ] ); $wnd.test( {val:1} ); $wnd.test( "Some text" ); }-*/; The questions are: why instanceof instructions will always return false? why typeof will always return "object" ? how to pass these objects so that they were recognized properly?

  • Help with javascript form validation

    - by zac
    I am getting a headache with form validation and hoping that the kind folks here can give me a hand finishing this sucker up I have it basically working except the email validation is very simplistic (only alerts if it is blank but does not actually check it if is a valid email address) and I am relying on ugly alerts but would like to have it reveal a hidden error div instead of the alert. I have this all wrapped up with an age validation check too.. here are the important bits, minus the cookie scripts function checkAge() { valid = true; if ( document.emailForm.email.value== 0 ) { alert ( "Please enter your email." ); valid = false; } if ( document.emailForm.year.selectedIndex == 0 ) { alert ( "Please select your Age." ); valid = false; } var min_age = 13; var year = parseInt(document.forms["emailForm"]["year"].value); var month = parseInt(document.forms["emailForm"]["month"].value) - 1; var day = parseInt(document.forms["emailForm"]["day"].value); var theirDate = new Date((year + min_age), month, day); var today = new Date; if ( (today.getTime() - theirDate.getTime()) < 0) { var el = document.getElementById('emailBox'); if(el){ el.className += el.className ? ' youngOne' : 'youngOne'; } document.getElementById('emailBox').innerHTML = "<img src=\"emailSorry.gif\">" createCookie('age','not13',0) return false; } else { //this part doesnt work either document.getElementById('emailBox').innerHTML = "<img src=\"Success.gif\">" createCookie('age','over13',0) return valid; }; }; var x = readCookie('age'); window.onload=function(){ if (x=='null') { }; if (x=='over13') { }; if (x=='not13') { document.getElementById('emailBox').innerHTML = "<img src=\"emailSorry.gif\">"; }; } can someone please help me figure a better email validation for this bit: if ( document.emailForm.email.value== 0 ) { alert ( "Please enter your email." ); valid = false; } and how would I replace the alert with something that changes a class from hidden to visible? Something like? document.getElementById('emailError').style.display='block'
